Book 2 in the Romancing the Sun Kings series, but can be a standalone. I loved the premise of this book: big manly hockey player with a female bodyguard, brilliant! And don’t forget the fake relationship to help things along. Watching these two realize their feelings and figure everything out gave me all the feels. And the “she doesn’t know that I know that she knows” part had me laughing and thinking about the same bit from a certain popular tv show. Well done Dineen! Can’t wait to read about Wade next!
My only critique was it didn’t quite clear up the Jennings storyline much. I would have liked a little more detail to understand what happened there.

I received an ARC from the author but wasn’t required to post a review. This is my honest, voluntary impression after reading it.
Dineen has written a wonderful story about two people who are thrown together because of circumstances they didn’t create but have to make the best of it by pretending to be husband and wife.
Lily is assigned to be Payton’s bodyguard after his cousin disappears in a boating accident and his sister is forced to assume the royal duties he had, consequently the need for a body guard she hires to be with him. Payton doesn’t want his friends to know he has a royal history that he’s concealed all these years so that’s how he comes up with this deception.
What follows is a fun story of two people pretending to be man and wife and finding out that sometimes pretending can become the real thing!
I really enjoyed this story and wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend it to all those who love a good romcom story that will delight you as they try to convince his friends they’re married and later trying to convince themselves that they don’t really love each other!
Ah the pitfalls that could have been avoided if they just told the truth but then you wouldn’t have this delightful book to read and enjoy!
Dineen’s books are filled with warmth, love, interpersonal interactions and self discovery along the way! They are a joy to read and enjoy as the characters become real to you as you read them and become your friends as well! Such a fun read! Did not disappoint! Swoony and sweet, it hit just the right mix. I loved the realistic growth of the main female character, and her internal story arc rang true to me. And who doesn’t love a he-falls-first romcom? Can’t wait to read the next in the series!

I really enjoy Hockey romcoms and this one did not disappoint! The plot is different in that Lilly is a female bodyguard, and Payton is the hunky male hockey player. It’s a slow burn with Lilly serious about doing her job and Payton unconcerned about the threat against his status as royalty. His fellow hockey players have a plot line all their own with their friendship and camaraderie. Fade to black spice level. Well done, Dineen! I received an ARC and this is my honest personal review.

Well this idea he has about a female posing as his wife being Payton’s cover ,is fine in theory but it turns out she’s a bodyguard he wants to uncover ,even love her?! What a life! This is making him weary though ,even teary ,as there he can’t go. Overstep the mark might seem like a walk in the park ,a lark even but he has responsibility being nobility. Oh boy he needs an ice bath because there’s gonna be some aftermath and let’s do the math here and more. In her goalmouth he wants to score. He can’t take any more of this angst ,he needs romance and more. Because his female bodyguard Lily is phwoar! And he feels silly ,he has a teenage crush dreaming about her..tush.What he wants her for is under wraps but when he sees her? Craps! An Angel at best and he longs to see her undressed. Well she is his wife albeit it fake ,so she is there all the time when he’s awake. A forward for the Florida Kings and he’s seen some things but this woman has him in awe ,jaw on the floor. Lily ,she doesn’t want a bar of him,she thinks he’s quite dim,this hockey player ,so immature she’s sure. While she’s not behind the door ,there’s nothing she wants more than an easy life. However, as their situation creates ample opportunity to spend time together, walls begin to crumble, facades break down, and real love begins to grow. I also loved the gender bending that Dineen writes into this book as our bodyguard is female protecting a hockey player.
Payton is royalty, but no one really knows that. Wanting to live his dream of playing hockey, he’s kept his royal side concealed from his team and friends. After his cousin goes missing in a terrible boating accident, he needs to be protected. But how can he have a bodyguard following him around all the time and keep his royal roots hidden? When his bodyguard turns out to be a woman, a fake marriage is just what he needs to keep his identity hidden.
Lily is tough, really good at her job, and is hard to dislike. She takes her job very seriously, but is willing to bend her role just a bit to help keep Payton’s identity hidden. I loved getting to know Lily and how she came to be in the job field she is. I adored how she was unafraid to put Payton in his place, royalty or not, and when the slow burn started catching, these two were impossible to resist. As these two continue to play their roles, watching how fake became real and how they evolve was beautiful.
As always, Dineen has given her readers all the sizzle and tension, but the spice stays kisses only. But these kisses will still make you smile and blush. I loved that we saw characters from book one return. Watching Lily and Payton grow from a job to so much more was beyond enjoyable and I love them as a couple! Well done Dineen and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

What's not to love about this new hockey romcom from Dineen Miller? Secrets abound when Payton has to take on a female security detail in order to protect him from an unknown threat as he takes a step closer in line to the British throne.
Lily is so good at what she does. She reads people as well as she reads threats, and she has Payton's number. It's always a contest between these two, and the funny and romantic moments are perfection! Payton falls first, and there isn't anything he wouldn't do to convince Lily to make their relationship real. His "Love, Actually" moves made me swoon for his heart of gold.
I love that Dineen consistently gives us characters with some grit, and I love that Luke and Sophie from the first Sun Kings story used their relationship testimony and friendship to help Payton and Lily along. It was a really nice, full-circle moment that I particularly adored! The team group texts are hilarious and I can't wait to see what comes next in the Sun Kings universe!

When hockey player Payton's missing cousin puts him into the position of becoming heir apparent as a Baronet, his family wants him to give up hockey and remain in England. Hockey is his life, and he manages to finagle an agreement. His sister (who was the replacement) allows him to go back to the US as long as he has a security detail. Payton returns with Lily, his bodyguard, and introduces her as his wife.
This talented author weaves a story that will have you laughing, wincing, and marveling how everything works out. Fabulous characters, fast moving plot, and delightful sub-plots kept me riveted and reading until I finished, staying up way too late! I'm not a hockey fan, but this is so much more than another hockey story! I LOVED IT-especially the otters!

A great, clean sports romance that will keep you turning pages late into the night. Payton with his royal heritage, his humor, self deprecation, and his happy go lucky attitude, which is a fun combination of characteristics, makes for a great book boyfriend. Lily's history makes her resist her feelings, building the tension that propels the plot. The side characters and banter will keep you invested in Lily and Payton finding their HEA. There are a few minor plot inconsistencies (Lily's reaction to learning about Payton and Del's conversation doesn't completely explain what follows or Lily's response) and times when the storyline seemed a little repetitive, but this is an engaging, enjoyable read that had me adding Luke and Sophie's story to my TBR list.

looking for a slow burn hockey romance? look no further. When Payton's cousin goes missing, the life he's built is threatened. His sister insists that he not only takes a bodyguard but also passes her off as his wife. Lily thinks this is the stepping stone she needs to move her career along. Payton is about to test all her boundaries and make her question everything she knows.
I loved the ending, but I struggled getting there. when they say slow burn, they aren't joking. He is a golden retriever MMC. She is a grumpy FMC. I loved that Sophie from the first book made a consistent appearance. There is no spice in spice in this book, but plenty of tension!

June 3, 2025On a side note, I could've done without the reminder that Payton asked Sophie out in book one, her and Luke's story. Even more so when it came from her to Lily, the woman she believed was his new wife. Same with Payton not really explaining anything when Lily brought it up. The whole things was unnecessary and yeah, awkward for the heroine to experience without any kind of resolution. It would have been nice if Payton had said something to alleviate any fears, and jealousy, Lily had about her new friend having been enough of an interest that her "husband" who she'd already developed real feelings for, wanted to take her on a date. Like, I don't know, I knew Luke liked her and was pushing his buttons to act on it?

What a great story. I’m not much on fake relationships, but this had a different spin on it as Lily is Payton’s bodyguard. And, of course, he didn’t want anyone to know why he needed one. This story had quite a few twists and turns and every time I thought I knew what was coming next, I was pleasantly surprised. I feel like the camaraderie among the hockey players felt very genuine. There were a lot of British terms, especially slang terms, that I didn’t always understand right away. But it did not distract me from enjoying the story.

This book was sooooo good! I've loved all of Dineen Miller's books and this one was right up there as one of my favorites. Who wouldn't love a Brit hockey player who calls his fake bride luv, is kind and considerate, who loves his family and his "messy" Hockey family? Payton was the absolute best MMC who absolutely made me laugh and swoon in equal parts. He was amazing! And then there is Lily, his rockin' bodyguard Fake wife, who is such a fun person to see from both her perspective and Payton's. She's super tough, could probably kill you with her pinky, but then we get to see the vulnerable side of her too that needs saving. These two just stole my heart. I want more of their story!

I love all things Dineen Miller, and this does not disappoint; this is book two in Romancing the Sun Kings. Lily Evans is hired as a bodyguard, for Ryan Gerard Maxwell; the heir apparent to the throne. Payton's cousin disappears, which leaves Payton's sister Emalia to assume the royal duties. Payton is a hockey player in the United States, for the Florida Sun Kings. He does not want to tell his teammates about his royal heritage. Lily is posing as Payton's new bride. Does everyone believe them? Can they carry this out? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait to read more from Ms. Dineen Miller!!!

I love the twist on the bodyguard romance trope, which I enjoy but there are more…forced proximity, fake marriage and found family.
For Payton to continue playing hockey, despite his nobility status, he must have a bodyguard. His happens to be female. He agrees only if she goes undercover as his wife.
This is a clean romance where he falls first, although she is not far behind!
This is a well written story that flowed well and kept me engaged. I adored all the characters and loved that this is a hockey romance that has hockey in it!

An adorable, wonderful, sweet hockey romcom, I didn’t want to put it down. Payton and Lily are so cute together. She is hired to be his bodyguard, but he doesn’t want his teammates to know who he really is, so she becomes a fake bride. I liked the fun banter and the way that Payton tried to trick Lily. I liked how Lily was able to feel the love and friendship of all the team and wives. The proposal was so sweet and swoony, you could feel the love Payton has for Lily. This is a story with fun banter, swoony kisses and sweet romance, a book you don’t want to miss!

Dineen Miller writes highly entertaining stories with unusual plot lines. In the Offensive Zone with My Fake Bride is no exception. Have there been bodyguard/client romances before? Yes, of course. But have they had the sweetness with snark that Miller provides? Not that I've ever read. Low on the spice (thank you!) but heavy on the drama and intrigue, ItOZwMFB is an enjoyable read, particularly if you enjoy hockey or are interested in learning more about it.

There were many aspects of the book I enjoyed. As usual all of the support character add a dimension that makes the book even more enjoyable. I would give 4-1/2 stars. I tend to be one who is super critical of how you present royal vocabulary and conventions. I feel too much American comes across in the storyline. The fact that he fell and pursued won my romantic heart. Walking her to the door....As usual great chemistry and nothing explicit, which is how I like my books. Read it and enjoy seeing hockey family again.

Wow! I have read all of Dineen's books, and she keeps amazing me! If you are a hopeless romantic, you will swoon at the love connection that Payton and Lily have. The way they tease each other, letting their true attraction show, will keep you laughing, giving you all sorts of warm fuzzies!

Welcome back to Sarabelle Island and the Sun Kings. I’ve never been to an ice hockey game but I thoroughly enjoyed an escape to Florida and ice hockey packaged together. Payton plays hockey and has a secret identity, he’d like to keep that way. Lily, is hired as a professional body guard. She gets to see what it looks like to have a “community by choice. Loved the chemistry between Lily and Payton from the very start. It made me laugh when he tried to ditch her and she pretended to go along with it. The banter is so good. If you like fake relationship, secret identity, body guard romance - this is the book for you. I loved watching them both grow as they worked through past baggage. The chemistry, kisses and heat was perfect while still staying spice free. I loved the ongoing observation list Lily makes about Payton.

Such A Fun Story!
I really enjoy this author. A hockey romance with a strong female involved is just perfect. I loved Lily's character from the beginning because she's so straightforward, capable, and professional. Payton is funny, responsible, and a romantic. Their bantering and teasing is so good. The team and WAG dynamics are so heartwarming. This whole story is just so delightful to read!

I just love this series. The players and the WAG's are all pretty amazing. I so enjoyed Payton and Lily. Their story is heart warming. I enjoyed how the tough bodyguard is caught off guard by her principle. The carefree hockey player is swept off his feet by the woman pretending to be his wife. Their competitions and banter were delightful. I am excited for the next story. I hope Wade gets his HEA. Clean read with passion.
