The Wolverton Demons

Rate this book
A demon trapped in an artefact and sold as a holiday souvenir is the start of a disturbing case for Elizabeth ‘Bess’ Russell. As the Regulator for the British Treasury, it’s her job to keep the country safe from paranormal threats at any cost. This time, the price might be her soul.

With former Detective Andy Harper at her side, she follows a lead from Delaware, U.S.A. to the English holiday playground of the Isle of Wight. However, Thomas Attrill is waiting for them with a lethal welcome. He seems to be an affable antique dealer, but he’s only after her body – preferably dead. Worse, Elizabeth Russell’s arrival has awakened the ancient spirits of The Island, and they yearn for something more precious than her body. As Bess and Andy confront the forces ranged against them, they find their case entwined with dark events from The Island’s past, including the annihilation of the village of Wolverton 700 years ago.

With a spate of demonic possessions sweeping the country, dragging her young protégé, Chloe Ennis, into the madness, Elizabeth Russell must put her soul on the line to uncover the horrifying truth behind The Wolverton Demons.

Action packed read! This was my first time reading a novel by VJ Nash. Initially when I started this book, I was under the impression it was going to be about demonic possession. However, the storyline shifted when it introduced a “secret organization” that deals with these phenomena’s. Creative use of mentioning the influential scientist, Sir Issac Newton, to the story. It was brief, but it provided an explanation to why one of the characters has this extended life of youth. The introduction of characters and how each played a role in the book was a perfect blend. I’m hoping there is a spinoff with one of the characters, Chloe. I recommend this book, and I look forward to reading another novel by VJ Nash 😊

loved it. a touch of everything. magic demons and other beings. It's wrote as stand alone but they also have characters whose story runs through them all. although some might find parts quite gruesome there are also comedic moments. well written kept me entertained. I am now starting book 3. hope there will be more, love the relationship between Elizabeth Russell and Andy Harper

I Cared About the Characters

Excellent and fun character development. A level of writing I can get behind; thoroughly enjoyable, and with a healthily-unhealthy knowledge of occult practices and nuances. Looking forward to what’s next…

2.5 stars (using Goodreads rating system).

I really love some of this author’s work, but this was a miss for me.

Love the characters, and some of the story was excellent, but those spots were few and far between.

Stuck with it up to 80%, but could not finish it.
