What happens when your enemy saves your life? Nothing. She still needs to pay.
Moth
At thirteen, she killed my brother. At twenty eight, she stopped me from jumping off a bridge, despite not knowing who I was under the helmet. She doesn't know that I'm back to claim my revenge. Her debt isn't even halfway to being paid. Which is why I'm watching her and biding my time. Except, she sees me first and begs me to help her with her stalker ex. How can I refuse when it makes my plan for vengeance easier?
Alia
At thirteen, I made the worst decision of my life. At twenty eight, I stopped a biker in a helmet from taking his life. He's mysterious, brooding and knows me somehow. I should run away from the addictive pull towards him, especially when I find out who he is. Except, as much as I hate him, Moth is the only person who is strong enough to help me with my evil ex. There's two men who have a vendetta against me, but I'm only interested in one.
We're enemies, we're angry, we're addicted.

Release Day Is Here! 04.04.25 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5 (Rounded to 4) 🌶️🌶️/5 [Not particularly spicy, but its a rougher kind of spice] 💀 Masked Man 🏍️ MMC 📖 Bookstore Owning FMC [Likes the Dark Romance Books] 📚 Book 1 in The Vengeance Unhinged Series [Unclear yet if they will be interconnected Standalones] ⺁ Semi Cliffhanger
Pretty standard dark romance book. Rougher spice, stalker ex [not the mmc], and a masked mmc who pushes the fmc away before deciding that he needs her. There was a good sub plot to the story regarding the guys families and this book technically ends on a cliffhanger but its its unclear if it picks up with Fly's POV. Either way, im invested and need to read book 2!
“It’s like you crawl under my skin and scratch it, forcing me to take notice.”
“But you… your voice… I’d dreamed about it for fifteen years.”
“Ladies,” he said. “welcome to the fantasy.” Their eyes widened as he pointed towards the stairs. “That’s your way to your worst, and best, nightmare.”
I’m already broken and if you ever leave, you’ll break me forever.”
This is the first book in the Vengeance Unhinged series, it’s an enemies to lovers but we all know he’s not going to kill her, this is a fast-paced steamy dark romance. This book borders on non-con from the main couple, attempted SA from the villain, so watch your triggers. Alia Brown is a bookshop owner, it’s been her dream and it’s very clear throughout the story. Jay Baker, A.K.A Moth, is a part of the Bug Gang and is very much a poetic geek biker boy and love interest of spirited Alia. He gives off Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher vibes, as quoted in the book from the sound of his voice. Swoon. The gang he’s a part of, named from when they were kids, is made from his best friends who have become like brothers to him having escaped a scary cult and having bonded over shared trauma. Meanwhile, Alia is opening up her bookshop whilst getting stalked and threatened by her sociopathic ex- the psycho villain of this book. And when Moth comes back into her life they’re both reminded of what happened all those years ago. The fire. Moth had sworn to avenge his brother, but will he go through with it?
One of the things I liked about this book was the references to the other authors and their books, it was cute and very telling about book lover obsessions, it was fun to see.
I loved the reinforcement to not shame on dark romance lovers, loved the concept of the bookshop that Alia and therefore this author made. Wished the bookshop was real, it’s a really great idea.
The main characters were morally grey, but Josh (the delivery guy) caught my eye. He was an adorable green flag side character, not right for Alia who needed someone darker but still it was interesting to see the two male characters side by side, the morally bad boy biker and the safe green flag option. Why didn’t she take Josh’s hand instead of Moths as the book quotes? Because the broken seek out the broken, in my opinion.
Very glad this wasn’t a Penelope Douglas like book, it was just the right amount of revenge enemies to lovers without the extreme toxicity, not that this is a healthy relationship considering the plot and their pasts and how they got together but I must say they’re a explosive perfect fit. It’s a great first book to a dark standalone romance series, already leaving plot for the next book, great first book couple and introduction to the characters we might very well see in future books of their own.
Loved the Bug Gangs backstory, cults don’t get mentioned often and most authors use books to discuss political issues and to raise awareness for real life issues such as themes of SA and domestic violence and the reporting stalkers, this book is no different which I’m happy about because it doesn’t glorify it like some books have been known to do.
Overall, this is a great book to read. It’s short and sweet with a dark HEA ending for the main couple with an ongoing interconnected plot, I assume with how it left things. This series has potential, I read it within seven hours. Praise to Lyra Wilde for giving me the opportunity to read her book, I look forward to more from her.

This was a quick read, and the plot wasn’t too bad.
The writing felt choppy at certain points and some character decisions were a complete 180 from what they had just said. Also when we found out what had happened when they were younger, it was a huge let down. It was built up to be this huge thing, but then it was out in the open and Moth was just completely fine 🤷🏻♀️
“I know how it feels to lose someone this way.” Panting, I put my hands on my hips. “So, I can’t let you to do it.” -Alia to Moth
“I won’t hurt you,” he said, keeping his stance neutral. “I promise. However, I need to go now... and I need you to forget about me.” -Moth to Alia
“Get on!” Moth shouted, bringing the rear of his bike closer to me. “And hold fucking tight.” -Moth to Alia
“You're playing with dynamite,” he hissed -Moth to Alia
Moth’s Flame exhibits emotions from passion, disdain and loyalty as seen from the above quotes from the book. Wilde hooks you with these types of quotes, drawing you and immersing you in the lives of her characters. I could continue to post more quotes, but then I would just be posting the entirety of the book and well, you just need to read this brilliant work of literary genius.
Lyra Wilde exhibits clear knowledge of what a Dark Romance should be when it comes to her novel Moth’s Flame. Taking the trope of enemies-to-lovers to new levels, she mixes in childhood and adult trauma, stalkers, manipulation, child abuse, growth and self-discovery to create a fascinating story that leaves readers longing for more. Oh, and we can’t forget about the naughty bits of spice she tosses in there as well.
Lyra Wilde’s book, Moth’s Flame, showcases her deep understanding of the Dark Romance genre. She elevates the enemies-to-lovers trope by weaving in themes of childhood and adult trauma, stalking, manipulation, and self-discovery, creating a captivating narrative that leaves readers eager for more. And let’s not forget the spicy moments that add to the intrigue!
The story centers on Alia Brown (FMC), bookstore owner and trauma survivor from her brother’s suicide two years ago, along with the current threat of her stalking ex. Then there’s Moth, a hardened biker with a troubled past and a vow of vengeance. Their lives collide when Alia prevents Moth from jumping off a bride, completely unaware that she just saved the man who once swore revenge against her.
Moth finds himself grappling with the haunting question: Why did it have to be Alia? Initially wanting her gone, he is forced to protect her when the stalking ex appears, drawing him into a complex dynamic that flips the typical enemies-to-lovers story on its head. Wilde adds depth by presenting the characters’ childhood traumas as they resonate into their adult lives. While this theme may have been explored before, Wilde’s portrayal resonates powerfully, helping readers relate to both Moth and Alia. I would love to go into more detail, but by doing so I would end up giving out spoilers and that, I will not do!
Wilde’s skill in character development shines through in Moth’s Flame. She creates a rich tapestry of characters imbued with emotion and trauma, making them relatable and immersive for the reader. The depth she gives to Moth and Alia, as well as the supporting characters, allows for genuine empathy as they navigate their painful pasts. Through her vivid descriptions, readers are drawn into the scenes, experiencing the world alongside the characters. For instance, Alia’s bookstore is not just a setting but a living part of the story, vividly portrayed to evoke the atmosphere and emotions of each encounter.
While the novel addresses sensitive topics like childhood trauma and abuse, these discussions are handled delicately and discreetly being able to focus on character growth rather than victimhood. Readers should be aware that while these issues are present, they are explored with such care rather than being graphically depicted in order to engage readers in the story.
While not overly twisty, the plot of Moth’s flame maintains an undercurrent of suspense and mystery that keeps readers engaged. Most of the foundational questions are answered early on, but the anticipation of future revelations ensures an exciting and gripping experience throughout.
Lyra Wilde is an engaging author who expertly combines suspense and romance, offering readers a glimpse into the darker aspects of love infused with the psychological thrills. If you have enjoyed dark romance with a psychological edge in the past, then I highly recommend Moth’s Flame, the first in the Vengeance Unhinged series – you won’t regret picking it up!
As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation by the author, present or future, for my review.
Moth’s Flame, written by Lyra Wilde, is the first in the Vengeance Unhinged series. This is a dark romance, enemies-to-lovers, revenge series.
This truly is an enemies-to-lovers story. When Alia stops a man from leaping to his death, she has no clue that it is Moth, the man who absolutely despises her from a life-changing incident from years earlier. These two have a past, and Moth wants nothing more than revenge, but when lust starts to interfere, it turns things upside down.
I enjoyed the storyline of the two main characters and the constant push-and-pull. I also love that Alia just opened a bookstore with a room dedicated to dark romance. When it came to Moth and his feelings, it gave me whiplash. Do you want to end her or be inside her, or maybe it’s all the above! The book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. I am interested in learning the stories of other characters, like Fly and Ant.
Thanks to Lyra Wilde for gifting me an eARC of Moth’s Flame. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book had a great idea for a plot, I've always been a sucker for morally grey MMCs and the harsh realities of life. However, the story felt incredibly rushed both in the story and the way it reads. I also ran into a ton of inconsistencies that just kinda irritated me. Not to mention the entire book felt like it was never really checked for errors (most of which were grammatical.) I'm marking this one down as a technical DNF even though I started speed reading and skimming shortly before the halfway point. I think the author has potential and might not have found their stride yet. I look forward to seeing how she does after developing a bit more.
Side note: I now want a flaming moth tattoo because of this book lmao
I just finished my very first novel by this author, and I absolutely devoured it! It’s a thrilling enemies-to-lovers story that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot kicks off when Alia saves a mysterious masked biker from making a fatal leap. Little did she know, this enigmatic figure was someone from her past—a twist we uncover later!
Their chemistry crackles with tension as he surprisingly steps in to help her deal with her insufferable ex. The angst and sparks between Moth and Alia are palpable, making every interaction electric! While I craved a bit more background on the cult aspect of the story, that’s just a personal itch of mine. Overall, it was a wild ride, and I had a blast reading it!
This story was addicting. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I devoured this. Alia and Moth are enemies. He holds her responsible for the death of his brother. What he doesn't know, is the truth. Alia is also trying to escape a crazy ex who is stalking her and is threatening her life. When Moth steps in to protect her from her ex, a bond is formed that leads to trust, that ends up leading to much much more. I loved the bug names of the characters. And I hate the life that the boys went through and had to escape. But that cliffhanger.... why...... I quite literally cannot wait for the next one!!! The writing is descriptive and draws you in. It's easy to understand and the plot is easy to follow. The plot itself is great and suspenseful. This one is definitely worth the read.
holyeffingsh**iamobsessed. This was a goodie I snagged during a recent "Stuff Your Kindle" day and I'm in dark romance love. My love for a book grows more and more when there are bits and pieces of relatability. Specifically, Alia's comments when she addressed the audience that came to her bookstore for an opening event.
This is, again, a DARK romance. Always look ahead at what possible content warnings are provided when choosing whether or not you want to start one. That being said, this one is for fans of Rina Kent, Sybil Reese, and Penelope Sky. So if any of those authors are on your list of favorites, I truly think you'd enjoy this book. That being said, I'm not going to give any details away because where's the fun in that?! 😉 Now waiting no so patiently for book 2! 😂
I really enjoyed this read. I love books about books. I know that sounds silly but The Fmc runs her own bookshop and has a dark romance event room. Thats every book lovers dream!
I think this story has really good character growth for moth and alia. I loved their chemistry. From the start I could feel the tension between them. I liked that the author grabbed my emotions so hard, I could feel moths sadness as he told Alia about his past.
I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire book. I wasn't expecting that ending! I can not wait to find out what happens in Fly's book.
Over all this was a great read. I love a revenge dark romance story. This one gave me all of that and then some!
I had to keep taking breaks from this book because, life. But once I was able to set aside the time to read I ended up devouring it! The relationship between Moth and Alia is definitely unhinged but it works. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and seeing how everyone changes/comes to terms throughout the story. I didn't think I was going to enjoy the stalker ex aspect of it but I felt like it was written really well and felt like it helped drive the story.
I enjoyed the way Lyra set everything up for the second book and I'm excited for Fly's Snare.
This is my first read from this author I was really pleased overall with this book, I couldn't put it down and it was an easy ready with the right amount of plot to get you hooked in!!! It is a dark romance but it wasn't too spicy (but its a rougher kind spice). The relationship between Moth and Alia was really good.
I very much am looking forward to the 2nd book in this series but would like to get more background information regarding the boys up bringing regarding the cult.
Incredible! Addicting! Amazing! What an incredible story. Moth was scorned by her when they were just kids, but he was obsessed with her. His obsession only get deeper when it tuned to wanting revenge.
Many years later and he was still obsessed with her only now she was becoming obsessed with him. She's broken, not as bad as he is, but she's definitely messed up in her head from her stalker ex. Can they survive the ex and one another? What will happen when the moth is drawn to the flame?
Moth's Flame is book 1 in the Vengeance Unhinged series and my first read by this author. Alia and Moth take readers on quite a ride. There's a saying that says "there's a very fine line between love and hate" and these characters find out just how fine that line is. Moth's Flame is intriguing, dramatic, suspenseful and very consuming. It's a great introduction to this new to me author.
Too Many Secrets Alia saves a man from jumping not knowing it’s Moth, the man who hates her with every fiber of his being. There past is complicated and full of pain and secrets. But there is evil after both of them. Can two broken souls call to each other? Can they find peace in their passion or will their pasts rip them apart?
I love Alia and Moth. Even though Alia is going through hell she still gets up everyday and tries to find her joy. The fact that she owns her own bookstore is fantastic. Moth is obsessive and a bit deprived but understandably so. What he's survived is heartbreaking. And who needs one stalker when you can have two? This story is amazing and I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out!
I couldn't put it down so make sure to clear your schedule. The balance between action and heat makes for a fast-paced story. What appealed to me the most was the realness of the characters, the mixture of their flaws and strengths, and the growth they experience.
Not really a romance or spicy reader but I did enjoy this one for the most part. I loved how the “bad guys” were all named after bugs and i enjoyed the ride. I would have loved to have more background on Moth’s upbringing- like maybe a chapter or two from the past would have brought more depth to the story. Solid read.
This book is the definition of a true enemies to lovers. Moth absolutely hated Alia at first but over time she became his obsession and I'm absolutely here for all of it. This book sucked me in and I devoured it in one day. I'm hungry to get my hands on the second book, I can't wait to read it.
Unhinged & cringey. 😬 I wanted to like it more but the book felt rushed. Loved that the FMC was a book store owner who wanted to focus on dark romance but it seemed like that was mentioned more than the actual “revenge” plot.
This book is your true enemies to lovers dark romance. I really enjoyed reading this book and it certainly kept my attention and then that cliffhanger, I can’t wait for the next book!
This was a quick read with an ok plot, although some parts were built up only to be anticlimactic. However I would love to visit Alia’s book shop, and maybe find out more about the guys pasts.
I went into this expecting a dark, enemies-to-lovers romance with a twist of revenge, and I got that. The plot was good and I finished this fast. I think what put me off from making this a 4 star or more was the characters development. It fell a little short for me in the execution. I guess I like my MMC to be more badass. He was portrayed that way but then would hide from her crazy ex. I don’t regret reading it—and I’m curious to see where the rest of the Vengeance Unhinged series goes—but this first installment didn’t quite hit as hard as I hoped it would.
Too Many Secrets Alia saves a man from jumping not knowing it’s Moth, the man who hates her with every fiber of his being. There past is complicated and full of pain and secrets. I’m giving this book 2 stars because it does have some really good ideas. It was just badly executed. The characters have no substance, no depth, no personality. No one has a character arch. For those who know, this book is written like a typical wattpad writer. So if the writer is young and this is her first book, it’s a fine book. But Alia (FMC) is suppose to be 28 and is written like a teenager. It’s suppose to be a “dark romance” but it’s just… it’s just not good. I’ve read different levels of dark and this is just bad writing. But there’s a lot of good reviews so maybe it’s just not my cup of tea. Also the characters “lick my lips” A LOT!! Get some damn chapstick. I should have made it a drinking game.
