ARC Review 📚
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Spice: 🌶🌶

What a book!
Millie (our FMC) is desperate to leave her crappy home life and takes a job as a carer to our MMC Castle, who has amnesia. However, all is not what it seems. His brother appears caring and kind, but as the story flows, the twists and turns from this family, keep you on your toes and rooting for the main characters.
The final twist in the epilogue, though! WTF!!!!

What a great book! I devoured this in one day and couldn't put it down!
Well done!

Psychological thriller is right! Wow!

Kudos to the author for the fresh spin on screwed up family dynamics that made this an absolute page turner. I don't know what exactly I expected in the first few pages, but it sure was not that mind-blowing twist in the epilogue!!

The pace of this book was great - I devoured in about a day. Every time I thought I saw where a twist was coming - boom - wrong! It kept me hooked right from the opening page. If you're not someone who reads epilogues, you will be severely missing out on the greatest ending of a book!

I can't wait to read more from Kashmira Kamat. Thank you so much for this ARC opportunity!

This was great! Very psychological and I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Our main character Millie is a caretaker for a rich man who lost his memory during an accident and throughout Millie and Castle get closer and they have a romance. This book is filled with drama and revenge and lots of secrets! especially at the ending. I recommend to people who love messy romances and family drama and lies.

ME AFTER FINISHING THIS HECK OF A STORY AFTER THAT EPILOGUE

description

5 Gazillion stars to this book for successfully altering my brain chemistry cos

description

I’m DEFINITELY not okay after Kashmira Kamat pulled me through this psychotic, emotion-overloaded rollercoaster filled with nerve-wracking twists and turns. I literally finished reading this book like 3 days ago and I’m supposed to post this ARC Review at the release date. But gained strength to write a review only today (and I write long ones) cos WHAT A RIDE MAN!

description

PLOT:

Millicent Davis, AKA Mille (I’ll call her Mills) is this cute, innocent, sweet-hearted, cinnamon-rolly girl who decides to escape her abusive, broke-ass family. So, she gets this shiny, babysitter job in this old-money, rich family called the Montgomerys. She runs away from home just to get trapped in their Gothic-style mansion, so she has no choice but to submit to their whims and do the job. Which is being the caretaker for this 30-year-old, 6-foot, ribbed-greekgod-abs hottie called Castle. He's the first heir of the family, used to be the CEO of the family’s conglomerate before surviving the family boat accident that killed his parents and gave him amnesia. He is also not mentally stable due to brain damage, so now he’s more like a:

description
*I just needed an excuse to use this gif eheh, pardon 😭*

She likes her pay and enjoys spending time with Castle, slowly forging a pure-emotional bond with him. Castle also gets heavily attached to her. But almost half of the family members are borderline psychopathic. Like… I’m talking about “Ready or Not” Le Domas family-level crazy. I’m pretty sure this book is heavily inspired by that movie cos, it captured the sheer essence horror and thrill so FUCKING well. So pretty much throughout the book, Mills was like:

description

And I completely empathize with her. Poor girl went through a LOT. NO CAP.

There’s a LOT of mystery looming around Castle’s accident and his supposed position in this entire household. Like… sth about his presence scares the other family members, especially the current head of the family, Devin Montgomery. Millie also comes across some REALLY CRAZY, SINISTER acts orchestrated by these so-called “noble-family”, which puts her in a life-or-death situation. She's just a pawn that can be easily discarded if it doesn’t behave. So, she realizes that she has no choice but to help Castle recover his memories, bring back to his gigachad, peak alpha self before shit hits the fan, ie, her getting permanently OFFED by this psycho family.

That’s pretty much the plot. But DAMN, the WAY it was handled…. It’s just CHEF’S KISS!!!

description

I can’t sum up how AMAZING this entire reading experience was. It felt like I was in a state of trance throughout the whole read. These are some of the things that really appealed to me, so I’ll break them all down here:

1. Female Lead - Millicent Davis:

“I wanted the Montgomerys to pay the price for their sins. And I wouldn’t rest until I’d witnessed it happen.”

She was low-key boring at the beginning, but once she learned the rules of the plot, she was UNSTOPPABLE. She moved her cards right, and her feminine strength and resilience made me admire her a lot. I also love how much she dotes over Castle, even though he couldn’t 100% reciprocate his feelings during his ‘retard’ phase.

“I wondered if he could even taste my fears and my pain. It was like he was taking it all away from me.”

But honestly, it's refreshing to see an FL with a good, strong personality and appealing plot presence.

2. Male Lead – Castle Montgomery:

“If you want something badly, you couldn’t let values, the right, and the wrong, come in the way. You needed to own that shit, and that’s what I fucking did.”

Probably my most favourite character of this book. His character arc is well written too. He was enigmatic, charismatic even when he wasn’t in his right mind. Like damn… That man deserves a prequel book and I’d gobble it up like a greedy bitch I am. He has the potential to reach BookTok-level fame because he’s got that IT factor.

Also, I can shamelessly say I'm officially a slut for Castle.

description

I also love how he treated Mills like a queen, no matter what. Even though there weren’t much romantic moments between them, every Millie-Castle interaction felt heartwarming amidst all that madness going around. It felt like having a warm tea amidst a thunderstorm outside.

“I promise you, Millie. I won’t fail you again. I will love you like you deserve to be.”

3. Plot pacing:

WILD. There was never a dull moment from the very first chapter. Although I felt certain parts to be a bit rushy, the mind-boggling plot twists kept me on my toes and complimented well with the pace. Made me revisit the previous chapters to confirm if I’m reading it wrong lol.

The WTF-moments will ruminate in your mind even after you close the book, NO CAP. Especially the Epilogue…

description

4. Side Characters:

“You’re right. Not all blood relatives can be called family, Millie.”

All the characters are written so well, although I felt Devin and Dayana Montgomery’s character architecture was a bit one-dimensional. Especially Dayana because I couldn’t put a finger on what her character’s main goal is. Her actions were very inconsistent till the end.

But it low-key makes me wanna read this story from their POVs. After that ENDING.

Chandler and Theodore Montgomery attracted me a LOT. I’d totally read a separate spinoff book on Theodore’s POV, because his psychopathic tendencies are really alluring.

And Chandler…. My baby boo. Just thinking about him makes me wanna cry. Especially after THAT ending. But I’m happy that Chandler will get his old monthly allowances back, so let’s forget the thing he PULLED to ensure that.

description

Which brings me to talk about…

5. Epilogue:

“We all have skeletons in our closets. Some keep them hidden under their beds. I have mine too. I kept them lock in a chest which was buried deep where no one else can find it.”

The BEST and the most WTF part of the entire book. It was SINISTER. DIABOLICAL. The kind of ending that’ll haunt your dreams. Just thinking about it makes me wanna bang against the walls cos I did NOT see that coming. NOT. AT. ALL. The writer did a fantabulous job building up the plot-tension, making us believe that it all ended well, just to gather em’ all up and sledgehammer it right on our faces by the end. I haven’t read many books that does this technique so well as ‘Castle’ does. Well done. Author!

Heavy spoilers ahead. Proceed at your discretion

In conclusion, this is a very good and SOLID read with a brilliant plot. I highly recommend everyone to give it a shot and experience the same sensory overload I felt when I read this book lol. Thank you so much for giving me such an experience by including me in your ARC team, Kash. Keep up your good work!

I really wanted to like this book because it has such great reviews, but the writing is awful. I’m not one who’s picky about mistakes in books, because I’m just reading to enjoy the story. But the mistakes in this book made it really hard to over look. It wasn’t just misspellings. There were entire sentences that didn’t make sense. Such as: “She’s having wounds”. Another example: one character said something like “how could anyone do this?” to which a response was given “my family”. As if the line should’ve been “who would do this?”. There were also things that the MFC would reference, and she hadn’t even actually learned of that information yet. It was just a mess. I finished it because I wanted to understand what was going on, but even the reveal was meh…

Wow what a roller coaster this book is! Just when you think you've figured something out, there's a twist and you're left staring at the page a moment to comprehend what's going on. This story held my interest from first to last page. What an enticing read.

Oh. My. God…. that was a ROLLERCOASTER! I’m blown away by the amount of unexpected twists and turns creatively woven into this novel. I pride myself in guessing plot-twists before they occur, but I did not see ANY of these coming!! It was just one after another!! BOOM. BOOM. BOOM🤯💥.

I stayed up till 2 AM to finish because I was HOOKED.
Once you start reading it you can’t put it down! I’m still in a state of shock after reading Castle.

Can we talk about the EPILOGUE?!?!?!?! My face has been 😦 since I finished (no joke).

Please someone find me a man like Castle😍 his and Millie’s chemistry was just… mwah 🤌 chefs kiss.

I genuinely can’t recommend this book enough, regardless of being an ARC reader (thank you Kashmira btw😘). I’m going to get my friends to buy Castle so I have someone I can talk to this about😂!!

This was an amazing debut novel; it’s so well written. I’m looking forward to Kashmira Kamat’s future novels as she seems like a very promising author! Well done!👏❤️

One non-spoiler-y quote because I can’t help myself!

“If anything happens to him, Theo, I’ll toss you into the lake, and I don’t care about the murder charge.”
(Page 193)

I love Millie. I LOL’d when I read this; it added the perfect amount of humour to the scene!

✨ARC Review✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars
First I want to thank Kash for the ARC! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get a head start!

I knew immediately it was going to be a roller coaster ride of a story. I wasn’t wrong in the slightest. Our FMC Millicent, or Millie, is hired on as the caregiver to our MMC Castle, who lost his memories after a boating accident. Millie feels out of place living among this high standing family, but her suspicions about them grow as she peels the curtain back inch by inch, chapter by chapter, revealing exactly what kind of family she was hired into.

One of the main things I love about this story is how fast paced it is. We learn something new in each chapter without it feeling overwhelming or confusing. They’re all pieces to the puzzle, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, the plot twist at the end hit like a punch to the gut in the best way.

Millie and Castle were so cute together, it was impossible not to root for them the whole time as they navigated Castle’s family drama. And that’s an understatement! Their chemistry was fantastic, fitting together perfectly, which makes the ending that much more emotional 😭

Overall, it was the perfect book to bring me out of a slump. Kash knows how to keep your attention until the very last page!

This is how psychological thrillers need to be done! Castle is a story that sucks you in right from the beginning. And it was amazing. First off, the cover is absolutely stunning!! But the story, amazing. This story was mostly fast paced, though it did have some slower moments to it. Right off the bat when Millie starts working for the Montgomery's, you can tell that there's something off about them. But not even two chapters later, where stuck in a position of not knowing who to trust. It seems like the 30 year old man named Castle that she is there to caretake for might be the only one she can count on, though with his psychological and emotional issues, he presents a danger of a different a kind. I don't want to say to much and give away anything... but lets just say that when Castle is in his right mind.... he is hot, intense, and drool worthy. I will not stop raving about this book to everyone! It just hit so different. I've read so many psychological thrillers in the past and I have to say... now that I've read Castle, I feel like none of those other stories was an actual psychological thriller. This book is an experience that everyone needs to go through!!! I highly recommend!! I can't wait for more from Kashmira Kamat!!!!

WOW...JUST WOW
When I say I love plot centric books and psychological thrillers, this is exactly what I mean!!!

The plot was beautifully interwoven and WHEN I SAY Y'ALL ARE NOT READY FOR THE EPILOUGE, I MEAN IT.

The characters are so deliciously twisted, not one completely good guy in the story and you know I revel in darkness! Absolutely gobbled it up.
For fans of twisted characters and a even more twisted story, this is your treat. I also salute Millie for her courage and ability to adapt. What a journey for her!

I'm however, not a big fan of the writing style but that's very subjective and a couple of side characters could have been developed a bit more, THEY HAD HUGE POTENTIAL. Hence, the one star deduction.

But those aside, it was such a treat.
Give it a read. You'll NOT be disappointed.

Wow!!
I finished this book in one day!! Once I started it I couldn't stop!
I was on the edge of my seat. I kept wondering what was gonna happen next and who could you trust. Nothing is what it seemed.
There were twists, revelations, suspense, mystery, and secrets galore.
I think this book had the perfect amount of tension and spice too.

I loved Millie. She was resilient, brave, and caring.

I could go on and on, but I refuse to give anything away.
Honestly, you just need to read it.
If your looking for an intriguing plot, filled with mystery, family secrets, steam and a shocking ending...this is a must read!!!
It was excellent!!

This book is an absolute masterpiece and one that’s very close to my heart. The story of Millicent and Castle pulled me right into the Montgomery mansion — a house full of secrets, shadows, and whispers that refuse to stay buried.

Castle Montgomery is a character I completely fell in love with — broken, enigmatic, and unforgettable. His journey, tangled with twisted turn of events, hidden truths, and the darkness of his past, made me root for him on every page. And that curved ending? It left me absolutely astound.

If you love gothic mansions, slow-burn chemistry, buried secrets, and plots that keep you guessing till the very last line — Castle is the book you don’t want to miss.

this book was so good! my first read by kashmira and i’m definitely addicted.

millie was tired of being used and abused by her uncle and cousin. she ran from home to find a job of being a caregiver. she found out quickly that instead of a kid she would be taking care of a 30 year old man. the build up to what happens and the end is phenomenal. she finds herself and her strength for this person she falls in love with that she shouldn’t have. truly a beautiful story. the epilogue though…🤯 that epilogue had me wishing there was a good 2, maybe about theo!

If you want a rollercoaster of a book then this is for you! The Epilogue itself had me in a choke hold..

I thought I knew what was going on but I was wrong! The story, the setting, the descriptions, the characters THE RELATIONSHIPS 🥹 I was rooting for Millie and Castle but now not so much 🫣 I’m glad she got her ‘happy ending’ or so she thinks 🙈

I loved this book! The sprawling, rich manor, the gorgeous brothers, the murders, the suspense, the twists and turns; I loved it all! I especially loved the mega gorgeous Castle, who was like a child having lost his memory, & the ever-loyal Millie, the caregiver hired to take care of him. To say this book had suspenseful twists & turns would be an understatement! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book & only wish it had lasted longer.

What a fantastic read. Millicent Davis gets more that she bargained for when the boy she's supposed to watch is actually a grown man. Castle has been in a tragic accident has stole his memories and he doesn't know who he is. Millicent realizes that there's some dark secrets in the walls of the Grand Manor that she's in, and needs to help Castle to figure out who he is.
