I’m DEFINITELY not okay after Kashmira Kamat pulled me through this psychotic, emotion-overloaded rollercoaster filled with nerve-wracking twists and turns. I literally finished reading this book like 3 days ago and I’m supposed to post this ARC Review at the release date. But gained strength to write a review only today (and I write long ones) cos WHAT A RIDE MAN!

PLOT:
Millicent Davis, AKA Mille (I’ll call her Mills) is this cute, innocent, sweet-hearted, cinnamon-rolly girl who decides to escape her abusive, broke-ass family. So, she gets this shiny, babysitter job in this old-money, rich family called the Montgomerys. She runs away from home just to get trapped in their Gothic-style mansion, so she has no choice but to submit to their whims and do the job. Which is being the caretaker for this 30-year-old, 6-foot, ribbed-greekgod-abs hottie called Castle. He's the first heir of the family, used to be the CEO of the family’s conglomerate before surviving the family boat accident that killed his parents and gave him amnesia. He is also not mentally stable due to brain damage, so now he’s more like a:

She likes her pay and enjoys spending time with Castle, slowly forging a pure-emotional bond with him. Castle also gets heavily attached to her. But almost half of the family members are borderline psychopathic. Like… I’m talking about “Ready or Not” Le Domas family-level crazy. I’m pretty sure this book is heavily inspired by that movie cos, it captured the sheer essence horror and thrill so FUCKING well. So pretty much throughout the book, Mills was like:
And I completely empathize with her. Poor girl went through a LOT. NO CAP.
There’s a LOT of mystery looming around Castle’s accident and his supposed position in this entire household. Like… sth about his presence scares the other family members, especially the current head of the family, Devin Montgomery. Millie also comes across some REALLY CRAZY, SINISTER acts orchestrated by these so-called “noble-family”, which puts her in a life-or-death situation. She's just a pawn that can be easily discarded if it doesn’t behave. So, she realizes that she has no choice but to help Castle recover his memories, bring back to his gigachad, peak alpha self before shit hits the fan, ie, her getting permanently OFFED by this psycho family.
That’s pretty much the plot. But DAMN, the WAY it was handled…. It’s just CHEF’S KISS!!!
I can’t sum up how AMAZING this entire reading experience was. It felt like I was in a state of trance throughout the whole read. These are some of the things that really appealed to me, so I’ll break them all down here:
1. Female Lead - Millicent Davis:
“I wanted the Montgomerys to pay the price for their sins. And I wouldn’t rest until I’d witnessed it happen.”
“I wondered if he could even taste my fears and my pain. It was like he was taking it all away from me.”
2. Male Lead – Castle Montgomery:
“If you want something badly, you couldn’t let values, the right, and the wrong, come in the way. You needed to own that shit, and that’s what I fucking did.”
Also, I can shamelessly say I'm officially a slut for Castle.
I also love how he treated Mills like a queen, no matter what. Even though there weren’t much romantic moments between them, every Millie-Castle interaction felt heartwarming amidst all that madness going around. It felt like having a warm tea amidst a thunderstorm outside.
“I promise you, Millie. I won’t fail you again. I will love you like you deserve to be.”
3. Plot pacing:
WILD. There was never a dull moment from the very first chapter. Although I felt certain parts to be a bit rushy, the mind-boggling plot twists kept me on my toes and complimented well with the pace. Made me revisit the previous chapters to confirm if I’m reading it wrong lol.
The WTF-moments will ruminate in your mind even after you close the book, NO CAP. Especially the Epilogue…
4. Side Characters:
“You’re right. Not all blood relatives can be called family, Millie.”
But it low-key makes me wanna read this story from their POVs. After that ENDING.
Chandler and Theodore Montgomery attracted me a LOT. I’d totally read a separate spinoff book on Theodore’s POV, because his psychopathic tendencies are really alluring.
And Chandler…. My baby boo. Just thinking about him makes me wanna cry. Especially after THAT ending. But I’m happy that Chandler will get his old monthly allowances back, so let’s forget the thing he PULLED to ensure that.
Which brings me to talk about…
5. Epilogue:
“We all have skeletons in our closets. Some keep them hidden under their beds. I have mine too. I kept them lock in a chest which was buried deep where no one else can find it.”

In conclusion, this is a very good and SOLID read with a brilliant plot. I highly recommend everyone to give it a shot and experience the same sensory overload I felt when I read this book lol. Thank you so much for giving me such an experience by including me in your ARC team, Kash. Keep up your good work!
