Six Highland warriors out of time. One modern family with a centuries-old secret. And a monster that refuses to be left behind.
Jill Greenwood has always known her family’s deep Scottish roots set them apart—the language, the traditions, the stories passed down for generations. But she never expected those stories to come to life.
When six fierce Highland warriors appear out of nowhere on her family’s lavender farm—battle-worn and utterly bewildered—Jill and her relatives are the only ones who can understand their ancient Gaelic. Teaching medieval Scotsmen how to survive in the modern world is challenging enough—convincing them that sword fights are frowned upon and that deodorant is not optional—but when unsettling occurrences around the farm turn deadly, Jill realizes these men didn’t come alone. Something dark followed them through time. And it has no intention of letting them go.
Alasdair MacGregor fought for his clan, his future, and the bride he was promised. Instead, he and his men were betrayed, flung through time, and left to fend for themselves in a world that makes no sense. But Jill Greenwood? She’s the one thing in this unfamiliar land that does. Sharp-tongued, compassionate, and as stubborn as any warrior he’s ever known, she speaks his language, understands his past, and makes him want something more than just survival.
But the monster that haunted them in the ninth century is now hunting them here. And keeping Jill safe may be his most important battle yet.
Love may have found a way to bridge the centuries—but first, they’ll have to survive them.

A return to my Scottish roots. And my appreciation of time travel novels. I picked this one because of the author and for its new approach to time travel. Many have the heroin going back in time...to many places. But, this one is about outcast Berserkers, manly warriors, being thrust into the future. The adjustment of six warriors to a world a thousand years ahead of them is memorable. The challenges and danger they brought with them is there for us to read. Of course, there is a budding romance with the challenge of distant lives and customs. A few inconsistent editing is included. "she fell off the wobbly stool to be caught in his arms...followed by jumping off the table." " He's all alone to save her, but his band of brothers fight beside him?" The story and emotions make up for any time spent on figuring out what was meant. Now, where I book #2 for me to follow my Scottish brothers in the quest for their own future? I have recommended this to my friend.
I have really enjoyed rach book of Diane's thst I have read! Yet you would think that as a 70+woman I would know better than to start one of her stories when I should get something done with the day! As it can never put it down! I alesys feel like I have learned something from history while reading, and this time I learned that "berserkers" weren't just in Viking lore as I previously thought. Wonderful characters and storyline, I can't imagine what living with your imagination might be like!! Great job! Lookng forward to more!
I laughed, cried and stayed up to late. I enjoyed the story immensely. I will look forward to all the follow up books. Jill and Alasdair's story is so beautiful. I highly recommend reading it.
Before I was finished with this book I had read over and over and over how they had to leave the past and all their hopes behind and learn to fit into their new future. It just so happened their future was tied to a druid who had crossed over about 30 years before and had married into a wealthy family and made his fortune farming lavender. So he had all the connections necessary to make them legal and give them jobs and training to survive. It was 1/3 of the way through the book before they met anyone outside the family! Honestly, it was so predictable it was boring. Even fighting the evil that followed them through time was expected and the ending was predictable. I thought the book would never end!
Absolutely magical! As always I love Diane's storytelling as it holds my interest and won't allow me to put it down until I have finished. Including our Highlanders only increased my enjoyment as she leads us through their journey in this new adventure and leaves me wanting more!! Thank you !
I’m a time travel “junkie” and I really enjoyed the berserker angle. The characters were so interesting. The story of found place, family and love very engaging.
