A must-read
It’s true that children need to play since it plays an important part in their brain development; the same happens with adults- they need to play. In “10.000 hours of play”, Yu-kai Chou invites readers to make their life a game and play in a meaningful way. He shows how the principles of gamification can be applied to people's lives. He includes transformative games that show people how to play meaningfully, for instance by selecting your role in the game or building your alliances; thus, will help you define your identity, define your journey and be surrounded by the right people. All in all, it's a book that allows people to make their life a game. I found it innovative, practical and useful.

An interesting read

Through six principles such as: choosing your role in life, understanding your weaknesses and strengths, and designing your goals to achieve success in your life, among others, Mark Díaz and Yu-kai Chou, the authors of this book, teach us a new way of seeing and living life.
They compare it to a game, where you win and lose, and where you must learn to make the best decisions in order to win; in this case, to learn how to live better.
The book is full of real-life examples of people who, by applying these principles, have managed to turn their lives around and become recognized.
It is written in clear, simple, and easy-to-understand language, making the reading experience pleasant and motivational, encouraging the reader to positively change many aspects of their life.
By the end of 10,000 Hours of Play, the reader will be able to create tools to set clear and achievable goals, identify their strengths, make use of them, and set new challenges that will be reflected in their family, work, and social environments.

Game changer or life changer? Our lives are like a game, and this book made me look at personal growth and success in a completely new way. I’ve read a lot about goal-setting and motivation, but this one stood out because it makes everything feel like a game you want to play. It’s fun, but also incredibly practical.

What I loved most is how Yu-kai Chou blends gaming principles with real-life purpose. You don’t feel like you’re just reading, you’re designing your journey. The structure of the book is super engaging: defining your mission, building your “team,” levelling up your skills, it all feels exciting and invites you to embrace the game of life. I also appreciated how it ties in lessons from iconic figures throughout history, helping you understand that you can also be inspiring, and making these people feel more human, not as unreachable as others often present them.

This is an amazing guide to help you play life with strategy, passion, and meaning.

10,000 Hours of Play is an imaginative and motivating guide that reimagines personal development through the lens of video game mechanics. As someone who enjoys self-improvement books and gaming, I found the concept incredibly engaging.
I particularly appreciated the "Choose Your Game" and "Build Your Alliances" sections as they made me think differently about how I pursue goals and who I include on the journey. The gamified perspective brought a lightness to some otherwise heavy personal reflection, which was refreshing.
That said, some parts felt a bit too metaphorical for my taste. There were moments where I wanted more grounded examples or scientific backing rather than just enthusiastic comparisons to legendary figures. Still, the energy and optimism of the book are infectious, and it delivers a new lens through which to view progress and purpose. A great read for anyone needing a fresh push toward their goals, with a bit of play along the way.

Transform your life

Reading this book made me think about how many times we try to reach our goals only by using willpower or discipline. However, this approach can be very exhausting and difficult to keep up in the long run. The authors propose a different idea, to make the path to success more like a game. This means enjoying what you do and feeling constant motivation to keep going without it becoming a heavy burden. I really liked this idea because it changes the way we see hard work and learning. Also, I found it very useful how they explain how to identify and use your natural talents and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who support and inspire you. Because, in the end, not everything is achieved alone. In summary, this book inspires me to find happier, more fun, and effective ways to grow, learn, and reach my dreams.

Incredible

This book truly surprised me. I never imagined how a book about the world of gamers could have such a powerful impact and resemble real life so closely. It also taught me that we should always try to discover new things and not let ourselves be limited by the perceptions we might have about something. At first, I thought it was a book just for gamers, when in reality, it had an incredible impact on everyday life. I consider myself someone who likes to compare and relate everything we do in life to a sense of purpose and transcendence. I was honestly surprised, as I had no idea that all those tips from the gaming world could be applied in real life and in our professional lives. I simply loved it, and it’s a book that truly invites you to reflect and make meaningful changes.

I read 10,000 Hours of Play by the recommendation of a friend, and I can say it was like receiving a manual to help me start living with purpose, focus, and enthusiasm. What surprised me most about it was how the authors managed to take concepts from the world of video games and transform them into practical tools for achieving real success. This book definitely made me rethink my way of seeing life: no longer as a routine, but as an epic game in which I am the protagonist. It helped me clarify my goals, recognize my strengths, and structure a concrete path for personal and professional growth. I recommend this book to reconnect you with your life mission.

It takes a very different approach to other self help books I've read in my life, as it tries to show the similarities in real life and video games, which I found quite interesting. It's an incredible guide that will help you understand your mission in life, your strengths, and all the things you need to keep in mind to succeed and achieve your dreams. It was incredible to read this book, as it addresses a topic that resonates with me. I believe we all share the belief that with effort, willpower, and discipline, we can achieve each of our goals. However, the book tells us that this approach can be exhausting and unviable in the long term. The authors of this book want to offer us something different: to make us feel like a game. The road to success is a complete game. This leads us to enjoy every moment and live it to the fullest without turning it into a burden in the future. I really liked this book and I highly recommend it to people who want to change their way of thinking.

A great idea!

This book is incredible not only for its message and information, but for the ingenuity with which it is written. It is an entertaining read with a powerful message about life, and that it is worth living.
I think the author of 10,000 Hours of Play, Yu-kai Chou, found the key to writing a book for fans of games. For video game and technology lovers, reading may not be one of their favorite pastimes, however, the author managed to capture the attention of this audience by speaking to them in their own language and using their perspective instead of imposing another.
It was very interesting and provided me with useful information. Definitely worth it!
