& Then They Met is easily the best book in the Ampersand series - named after Kaya’s iconic tattoo AND this book delivers on everything - emotions, depth, and lovely characters (most of them, anyway)

the writing is beautiful and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It starts off a bit slow but just when you think it's dragging, the pace picks up and throws you into the heart of the drama. The dialogues? amazing. they make the characters feel so real and relatable, and every conversation has weight.

I've read & Then They Wed and & Then They Loved as ARCs and the little glimpse of Rian, Aditi, and Vihaan in here? instant serotonin 🥺 cuties.

also, the security guard being named Gaitonde? peak Indian soap opera material - I couldn’t stop laughing 😂 this is how you know the book has desi roots

my only complaint: the last 20% of the book had me frustrated - the on-and-off of Kaya and Arjun’s relationship had me wanting to shake some sense into both of them. one minute he cuts it off, the next it’s her, then they’re stuck in the past, and then neither of them can move on. And Kaya’s conversation with Naina? completely threw me off. why did she say that she wanted to stay with Arjun when she asked him to leave just five minutes earlier??

I dunno how I met this book but I m glad I did

It's a book full of deep rooted conversations and a bag full of emotions.

Arjun and Kaveri meet under such beautiful romantic circumstances, only for Kaveri to disappear at midnight - Just like Cinderella

They meet again under different circumstances, and once again go their seperate ways, only to meet again and fall in love. Is this their happy ending or is there more to it is what you need to read this book for

This book a total roller coaster of emotions and love, which takes you along the ride too..

The book is very well written, just a tad bit too long... the writing is simple. You can connect very well emotionally, like you are watching the scenes unfold before you. It feels like all the popular Ekta Kapoor serial scenes have been included in this😄

My most fav part of the book is when they meet for the first time and spend the evening together just so romantic ❤️

And I fell a little more in love with Arjun when he said 'I am still the one trying to stay'

This is the first book by author Riya Iyer. And if the first one is so good, i m adding her to my list of good authors 👍

I enjoyed this book. I was like if Kaya forgives her father, I will deduct a star which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 as I had initially planned.

The writing was nice, the story was full of angst - so much so that it started irritating me. The constant love bombing by Arjun and the constant pushing away by Kaya was annoying. Like they don’t have any characteristics that I can mention here which I liked/loved. Tbh, the 2 page scene between Riann & his love interest was way more interesting than Arjun & Kaya’s story.

I enjoyed the story overall, It had multiple pov’s. It also introduced me to this cute little Village in Maharashtra.

Kaya & father’s relationship was something that’s very common in our society. I really wanted her father to suffer but she forgave him too soon.

As I write this review, I wonder what I really liked about it but idk. I just vibed with it.

Life is so uncertain; we meet, we talk, we fight, and we go back to our separate ways. But sometimes destiny plays its game, and we are stuck together even if we are unaware of the same.

Kaveri, aka Kaya, is famous for running from her problems and situations. She is the child who craves fatherly love and attention. She is a child who has faced many ups and downs at a tender age. She is just like a puppet dancing to other tunes.
After years her father regards her but only to inform her that her marriage is fixed and it's a business interest. She is heartbroken again and has nothing to fight back.

Arjun is like a dream come true, he is the charmer, heartthrob, dream of every girl, and my favorite person. This character is the backbone of the story. He is disciplined, successful, professional, a family man, and the best lover one could get.

Their first meeting was a masquerade party, where they fell for each other without even knowing. And as told earlier Kaya ran away. The second one was again a very beautiful coincidence; the spark could be seen again, and there was visible chemistry, but alas, Kaya ran again. Hush! Poor Arjun is always at the receiving end where Kaya is giving him a hard time. And at this point, I hated Kaya to the core.
Will Arjun ever be able to understand Kaya? Will Arjun be able to find his runaway bride??? Is there a future between these two???

It took me a little time to pick up this book but I am glad I did. It's such a cute little story that will capture your heart for sure. The conversation is brilliant; the plot building is commendable, and I loved the bond between Kaya and her brother. Arjun and his sister. I loved the twist of Rian. He came as a big surprise. (I am sure he has a story to tell).

Throughout the read, I had a very satisfactory feeling.

Book : & Then They Met: Ampersand Book 1
Author : @authorriyai
Format: Kindle Edition
Ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"& Then They Met: Ampersand Book 1" was the first published book by Riya Iyer, and she portrayed how one innocent mistake cost a lifetime of uncertainty and loneliness.

The author so carefully expressed her thoughts on how parents' ignorance, demanding nature, and societal pressure can lead to trauma, which could change a child's mindset and the ability to have permanence in their life.

Kaveri Sharma, aka Kaya, who was only 22 and had spent most of her life away from her family, was asked to come back, and when she thought it was because her family missed her and wanted her to be with them, then it was her wrong assumption. Sure, her family loved her, but her father had lost the fatherly love that she craved; his sole purpose was to build a successful business, and, for him, even his daughter's marriage was a business.

Arjun Rathore, the scion of the Rathore clan, was charming, handsome, and had many dreams. He was the center of attraction at every party, and he could do anything for his family.

He got married to Kaveri Sharma, and the story completely took a U-turn. Any reader would feel that the story would be smooth after this, but no, this was not at all a simple, predictable story; there were unpredictable twists and also a leap of a few years, and that actually kept me on edge. It was so interesting to read their interactions in such compelling words.

The story of Kaveri Sharma, aka Kaya, and Arjun Rathore, who felt so deeply for each other without even knowing each other, had to face the consequences of something that they couldn't change even if they wanted. The only way they could change their decision was to communicate, but that was not in their destiny; their fate had some uncertain plans for them; surely they met, but in another way, they never met.

Overall, the story was lil complicated, but interesting too.

This book caught my eye in my feed, and my bestie’s rec and the blurb intrigued me such that I had to pick it up as my next. And, oh boy, I am so glad I did!

The first impression - A complex plotline, layered characters, flawless, evocative and detailed narration (just how I love it), this story is an emotional roller-coaster wherein every feeling is explored poignantly. It is filled with emotions. I mean it's truly brimming with emotions in the best way possible.

Sometimes, fate really screws you up. This is Arjun and Kaveri's story, who meet at a party (best meet cute ever.) The estranged daughter, Kaveri, aka Kaya, gets summoned by her dad after years only to realise he needs her to get married to Arjun to cement his business ties. Reluctantly, she marries him hastily in a register marriage. What follows hereafter is a whirlwind of events that kept me swiping pages to uncover their life's twists and turns.

Arjun - what do I say! He’s a dream, a blend of charm, humour, vulnerability, understanding, and he’s oh so patient. He’s a freaking diamond. Sexy as sin, with a wild kink, his love for Kaya shines through, despite him being at a crossroads, hating his wife and loving this girl. His patience with Kaya is what bowled me over, tenderly bringing her out of the shell she had burrowed herself in. He owns my heart.

Kaya's character is unlike any I've ever read. She's complex and ambiguous, like a seemingly difficult to solve puzzle. Unsure at times, determined the next, regretful at times yet justifying her act, bold one moment, but terrified the next. Difficult to pen, kudos to the author for capturing her brilliantly. Though I was miffed at her for the choices she made, what an about turn at the end! Her arc grew by leaps and bounds and the way she matured was remarkable. They both complemented the other beautifully, and their slow burn chemistry, electrifying. I loved Ishaan and Avni for unwaveringly supporting their siblings. And Rian is adorable. I am waiting for his story.

I had a big, happy, satisfied smile on my face after reading this book. I just wish there was an epilogue, as yeh dil maange more.

The character of Kaya was drawn so lovingly and carefully that she popped off the page from the beginning. I found myself immediately enjoying getting to know her (not least because of her easy humor) and deeply caring about her fate and relationships. & then came her met meeting with Arjun - from that point, I was absolutely riveted with their chemistry and head over heels with the romance of it all.

Like reading one of my favorite Bollywood movies, these characters and their rollercoaster story that spans years (!) felt so interesting and true even as they went through major life and perspective changes. The various settings and surrounding characters made for a wonderful, rich backdrop while still keeping the focus on better understanding and developing these two.

I read part of the book during my routine days and part of it while on vacation, and in both cases it was really hard to stop turning pages - I mean, some silly multitasking started taking place - sometimes out of how much fun I was having, sometimes I just needed to get to some resolution out of the mess of emotions that the characters (and I!) were put in through the many (often unpredictable, but in the end quite necessary) twists and turns.

Thank you to the author for keeping me so entertained and for delivering a story and characters that will stay with me for a long time to come. Already waiting for the next book, and the one after that!!

Okay so this was my first time reading a book with south Asian characters. I’m always down to try new things!

First of all, the dedication is so cute!!!

Secondly, the glossary of terms is also so cute because I’d like to understand what I’m reading. For an author to include that in a book and at the start of the book too is very thoughtful

The book has a lot of family drama but I will say the sinlingship (I don’t know if this is a word but I’m using it I don’t care) we’re very strong and I liked that!

My favorite scene is when Arjun stood up to Kaya’s dad and I really liked when Arjun and Rian started to bond and build a friendship and respecting each other even though they both admired Kaya in different manners

I also really like the name of the chapter. I’m really one for binging TV shows. You know how some shows title their episodes from something on the characters say? That’s how the titles of this book were named and I would get all giggly every time I got to the “phrase” in chapter!

However, I gave this book 4 stars for one reason. I felt like the book was really long. It had really unnecessary details and I felt like the book could’ve ended earlier on

For anyone who likes these tropes, I highly recommend this book!

Summary:

Kaya is called home to India by her father. She has finished her studies abroad and was considering her next moves when he made the request. She had no idea it was because he had planned an arranged marriage for her.

Arjun has accomplished a lot in his 26 years. His is successful but never thought an arranged marriage was in his future. He agrees so as not to disappoint his family.

My thoughts:

I loved &Then They Met. I did feel it was a little too long but overall it was a good story.

Kaya agrees to the arranged marriage because she wasn’t paying attention to her father. Her mom convinced her to at least meet him. One night her brother sneaks her into a masquerade party. There she meet a mystery man who she is comfortable with. The mystery man ends up being Arjun and this is where the chemistry between them is started. I loved the use of them getting to know each other without pretense. It helps make their relationship and love more believable.

I really enjoyed Iyer’s writing style. The flow of &Then They Met was very slow and kept me captivated in Kay and Arjun.

I will definitely read more from Rita Iyer.

Thank you Rita Iyer and Travelling.Pages.Tours for the complimentary copy of & Then They Met.

Piggyback Rides for the Win!!!

“& Then They Met” is a gem. I experienced the gamut of emotions, from laughter to sadness, frustration to swooning. One minute, I was yelling at the characters on the pages, and next wanting to hug them close.
This reaction is a testament to Riya’s deep, thoughtful, and beautiful writing.

Riya invites readers into the desi world of arranged marriages and family expectations. Kaya Sharma and Arjun Rathore navigate love, misfortune, and complex twists that unfold from a loosely based "Cinderella" meet-cute, sans the glass slipper, combined with elements of "Runaway Bride." Despite these familiar themes, the storyline remains unique and compelling.

With a delightful blend of humor, heart, and a dash of Bollywood drama, "& Then They Met” is a charming and entertaining read that will have you rooting for Kaya and Arjun every step of the way. Riya does not skimp on the details in crafting scenes and characters that feel authentic, along with a slowww-burn romance that keeps you on edge as it simmers toward that big, smexy moment.

So grab a cup of chai and prepare to be swept away by memorable characters, turtles hatching, piggybacks on the beach, and the discovery of love in unexpected places.

Spice 🥵🥵

Okay so this is the first book I have read and reviewed where an AUTHOR actually approached me. It felt like an achievement 😩🫶🏼

@authorriyai thank you so much for asking me to read this, I had a blast reading it.

I have said it time and again, that I am always sceptic of reading a romance with south Asian/ Indian characters.

This book felt like a best of both worlds. I felt like I am watching a Pakistani drama and I cannot stop watching it. The twist and turns, them meeting and parting ways.

Arjun and Kaya aka Kaveri are arranged to be married as a part of a business arrangement. Though they both agree to it but marriage won’t be easy for them as it seems to be.

The DESI FAMILY DRAMA hit exactly where it should it.

I felt bad for Arjun so many times that I just wanted to hug him. The final meet is something to look forward to.

I am also not a fan of third person POV but it was done in such a way in this book that stories of all the characters were shown, be it man or side.

I need the PREQUEL book for Ishaan and Avni and I can’t wait for Rian’s book.

Have you ever read a story that has withdrawal symptoms? This book has all those emotions which will keep on reeling in your mind for long. A wonderful plot and a superb narration which will keep you hooked till 500+ pages ends. If you like to read just marriage of convenience kind of stories or an unnecessarily over-feisty heroines then this is not for you. This story has a depth which will stroke many emotions inside you.

The best part was the story was not at all rushed. At first I was irked at Kaya for being too cruel to Arjun but the way story twisted in the end my views completely changed and now I am unable to decide which character was more stronger and in more love - Kaya or Arjun?

Towards the last of the story you’d start feeling pain for Kaya but in the end Arjun will steal away the show in a much unexpected manner.

Overall wonderful piece of work and a must read if you are looking for something substantial rather than a regular story kinds. Though it’s 500+ pages and some readers may find it too dragged but emotions cannot be rushed… it has to flow with story and that’s what writer has wonderfully narrated. 5 stars from my side ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An unexpected surprise for me

Here I was thinking I was going to read another cute and spicy marriage of convenience. Boy was I wrong.

This book had all kinds of depth I was unprepared for. It’s been a long time since a book could make me weep, and weep I did a few times throughout this book.

THIS BOOK WAS SOOOO GOOD!! It had the painfully raw emotions of navigating expectations and relationships with an unavailable parent and the layered ramifications of it. In fact that aspect was so well done in a way I’m not used to reading in romance novels that I wonder if the author herself has experience in this or is a therapist because she captured that aspect perfectly.

I ignored my responsibilities and my hunger to finish this book all at once because I was TRANSFIXED and could not put it down.

I love Kaya and Arjun and I love their growth and arc in how they overcame their traumas and healed each other and the support of their siblings, just beautifully done. I look forward to eating up anything Riya Iyer writes ❤️ I can’t for her sequel coming out very soon!!

Kaveri Sharma's father has called her back home after sending her away years ago. She's hopeful that this is his way of wanting to move forward and mend their relationship. She realizes too late that he's arranged her marriage as part of a business deal.
Arjun Rathore had no plans to get married, but his family means everything to him and so he agrees to marry this stranger hoping it will all work out.
I found the first half of this book moved much faster than the second half. I appreciate a slow burn romance but I felt that the issues between Kaveri and Arjun were unnecessarily dragged out. Both main characters were likeable and I really felt badly for what each one went through. Kaveri did annoy me at times, but I understood why she behaved how she did and I liked that her character grows. She finally understands that she isn't the only one with trauma to overcome and accepts that she has also made mistakes that hurt people.
I look forward to reading more by this author!

This book was a rollercoaster! From the get-go, Kaya and Arjun's first meeting had me absolutely hooked. Their chemistry was electric, and their banter? Absolutely effortless! It was like witnessing a slow-burning fire ready to explode. The relationship build-up, that anticipation—utterly palpable and thrilling!

The early parts of the book painted such a vivid and painfully accurate picture of family relationships. Kaya's character was deeply relatable, her fears, while valid, occasionally left me feeling a bit frustrated. But then there was Arjun Rathore, such an endearing character! His charm combined with his unwavering determination made him someone I rooted for throughout.

However, as much as I was engrossed, the last part of the book seemed to drag on longer than necessary. Some of the issues could have been resolved earlier, keeping the pace and excitement intact.

Beautiful story!

I loved this simplistic and heart touching story! I saw the number of pages in this book, but did not think it was too long because the character development was really well done until you felt the emotions and conflicts of every character in the book. Personally, I connected even more to the story because I could relate to the dynamics between Kaya and her family and how alone she felt without them, finding a similarity to when I was in college, did not follow the traditional path that my father had chosen for me, and chose to follow my own passions and path instead. Again, loved the story and finished it in one night! I wish there was an epilogue but hopefully will get to see these characters again in Rian or Vihaan’s stories.

Utterly blown away by this

Wow. I mean wow!!!

This book is just STUNNING! If you like enemies to lovers then this the best! But with a whole bunch of twists and turns.

I think Kaya is the most complex heroine ever ever read, brave yet vulnerable, strong yet afraid.

And Arjun is the stoic, steady hero, patient and kind.

It's hard to review this properly without giving anything away, but Riya is an incredibly talented writer, able to convey the deepest of emotions, allowing us to get right inside the character's heads. The dramatic family clashes, the miscommunication, the joyful reunions, this book has it all!

I just loved this and I cannot wait for the next instalment.

The level of patience I have had to get through this book was worth every minute spent reading it, experiencing it and getting through with Kaya and Arjun... This made me believe in destiny... I adore Arjun for his patience and Kaya for her strong willing on standing up for herself... I would say, it is an unpaid therapy for those having trouble coming out of their shell! A must read for this year🤍🤍🤌🏻... also talking about romance... I mean ahmm, warning its slow but burns the hell out of you🤭🤭🔥

“I have become you, and you me. I am the body, and you are my soul. No one can claim hereafter that you are separate from me, and I am separate from you.”

‘& Then Theh Met’ was a nice mix of romance, humor, spice, drama and a happy ending! There were times the book felt like it dragged, thus feeling like it was a slow burn read..it was a tad too long for my liking. I found Kaya to be very relatable/likeable and the chemistry between her and Arjun was great!

It took me some time to really get into this read, but overall I enjoyed it. I felt for Kaya and got so mad at her father’s temper and just the way he neglected her. I think she also forgave him too easily. I was pleasantly surprised by the spice and I love Arjun and the way he cares for Kaya. 4/5 stars for me, took a star out just because I felt like the conflict got dragged out for quite a bit and it was such a slow burn ahhh!

An amazing rollercoaster!

This is a poignant and heartfelt story that I couldn’t put down! The ups and downs were frustrating and heart wrenching as they kept me turning the pages searching for the peace that these characters deserved!
I loved the descriptions of the family dynamics, the struggle with parents and the bond of siblings, everything was so on point I know I will read the story again and again!

Kaya and Arjun’s story drew me in from the first pages. The characters are so well drawn. Riya Iyer’s use of nearly complete omniscience lets you jump between both characters heads. Between that and the setting in India, I was strongly reminded of Diksha Basu’s Destination Wedding.

The slow pace in the first half lets you immerse in the story, then at the halfway point, I felt the Bollywood melodrama hit, and I was here for it!! Super sexy slow burn is right!

I am a big fan of second chance love types of books but this one really got me tired with their on- again and off-again antics. I really wanted to shake Kaya by her shoulders and put some sense into her.

DNF at the very end when she refutes what Naina wants and immediately afterwards rejects Arjun (Yet again for 1578th time) This is like just a few pages until the end of the book. I dont have it in me to read anymore.
