At the top of his game, Steven Tawn ruled his corner, until the night he became just another statistic. Murdered in cold blood, his story should have ended there. But Steven isn’t done. Trapped between worlds, he’s determined to get revenge on the man who cut his life short.
His mother, Martha, refuses to let death take him away. Desperate and grieving, she turns to the occult—seances, ouija boards, anything to pull her son back. But as she cracks open the door to the other side something else stirs in the dark, and not every spirit wants to help.
As mother and son fight from opposite sides of the veil, they must overcome impossible obstacles—both supernatural and earthly—to get the justice they crave. But as the line between life and death blurs, the price of vengeance may be far greater than either of them ever imagined.
In this psychological thriller, the characters "martha" lost her son by murder. She utilizes her gifts to piece together information regarding the case. Yet, corrupt community members poses their own threats. if able would you bring back the ones you love??
The story was well written, amd intriguing. Yet, at times was lost in the fullness of the details. Still a good read, and would recommend to any psychological thriller readers!
I loved the concept of this book. Martha lost her son, Steven to being murdered by another drug dealer. She has always had a special gift that allowed her mind to cross realms and communicate with the dead; now she can do that with Steven to get information and hopefully close the case on his death. But as this city proves to also have corrupt police, it poses a problem for them to actually do something about it. Yeti goes on a killing rampage and is just a jerk. Once Martha connects with Steven, she fully realizes how much she misses him and decides she will try to pull off something more sinister. How far would you go to bring back the one you love after death?
This book wasn't bad but it lost me a bit in the presentation. A lot of unnecessary details and paragraphs and some confusion as to why there were so many character stories that has to be involved. A lot of repeats of the word 'whilst' throughout this book drove me a little crazy but as I stated before, the concept wasn't bad at all and the story was very interesting. Three stars for me doesn't mean it was bad, it just means that it wasn't usually in line with what I seek out to find for my reading. Jessica Cameron does a great job breaking down a story from start to finish and is definitely talented, the story itself just fell a little flat for me.
Corpus by Jessica Cameron is a gripping and unnerving psychological thriller that delves into the dark and twisted side of human nature. With a chilling narrative and a unique premise, Cameron's novel keeps readers on edge from start to finish.
The story revolves around a group of strangers who find themselves trapped in a sinister and mysterious situation, each forced to confront their own worst fears and deepest secrets.
The characters, while flawed and sometimes repulsive, are also compelling and human, which makes it hard not to sympathize with them at certain points. Cameron does an excellent job of blurring the lines between right and wrong, forcing readers to question their own beliefs about survival and humanity.
The novel’s pacing is relentless, keeping you hooked with each page turn. Cameron's sharp prose and ability to build suspense are notable, especially in the way she plays with the reader's expectations. There are moments of real shock and awe, making Corpus a thrilling ride.
However, Corpus isn't for the faint of heart. The book doesn't shy away from dark themes or graphic content. But for those who enjoy gritty, intense psychological thrillers, Corpus delivers an unforgettable experience.
The story starts with Steven, a young man whose life is stolen in a brutal act—and his mother, Martha, who refuses to accept that death is the end. Her descent into the world of séances and spirit work is driven by love and desperation, and it’s through her that the book’s tension really builds. You’re not just watching a ghost story unfold—you’re watching a mother claw at the fabric of the unknown to reach her son. When I started reading it, I was a little shocked that I had not read many stories like it. The writing style was another thing that I was shocked I liked. It was not my usual taste, but it was well done and may have changed my mind about this style of writing. I read horror and thriller stories on the regular and found this story fresh and enjoyable. It was a bit longer than I tend to like my thrillers, but it was still good and kept my attention. I for sure would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique tale.
This psychological thriller with a paranormal twist made for an interesting concept. It's a very descriptive book, with lots of characters. The idea that a mother would do anything to get justice for her child no matter the age was believable. It was a gripping story that held my attention from start to finish. Corpus does not shy away from its darker themes and you really feel the desperation of Martha. The characters are not all necessarily likeable but this adds to the story life is tough and full of people you want to smack with a fresh kipper and I wanted to smack a few in this book. Which just proves how invested I got into this story.
This is the second book I have read by this author and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Jessica Cameron is a new author to me, but one who I will happily follow in the future.
Corpus follows the tale of Steven, a rough around the edges character who has fallen onto the wrong side of the tracks. After a fatal stabbing occurs, his ghostly essence, seeks redemption. His mother who possesses natural psychic abilities aids him to that goal, with interesting interruptions along the way.
If you like the paranormal then this is a very enjoyable read for you.
Martha is on a mission to find out who killed her son and won't allow even his death to stand in her way. Martha uses her special abilities to connect with her son Steven from the other side and communicates with him to get information to help her solve his murder. After making the connection with him several times she forms a plan to try to have his soul enter another body so that he can come back to her. The story is great, though I got lost sometimes. I really liked the premise of the story and thought it was still an enjoyable read.
An intense, chilling, and emotionally gripping story that blends crime, grief, and the supernatural in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The author masterfully captures the raw pain of loss while weaving in a haunting revenge tale that’s as heartbreaking as it is suspenseful. The dynamic between Steven and his mother is powerful and unforgettable, and the twists from the spirit world add layers of tension that will stay with you long after reading. A dark, compelling page turner.
This book was amazingggg! It only took me so long to review because it had so much detail that I was lost in the pages!
