The Filth Kings
Detavio Decebal was never meant to be good. He was raised in the shadows of a man who believed kindness was weakness, which later made him feel like love was nothing more than a leash meant to be snapped. He was raised by force and taught only to survive. By the time he became an adult, he taught himself how to dominate those around him. Until he met Angel. A woman he was set out to ruin and break since she was a threat to the Decebal name.
Born in ruin, rejected the moment he took his first breath, Monster doesn’t feel. He devours and destroys anything that serves as a threat to the control that he had to fight for. He never had a childhood, only lessons. He learned that pain was currency and fear was law. To Monster, the world belonged to those who were ruthless enough to take it. Monster took any and everything as a man. Until Natavi walked back into his world without knowing she just became his next lesson.
Dark, twisted, and filthy! The DECEBAL name is more than power…it’s pure filth that spread amongst three brothers like a disease by the hands of their father, Impurity Decebal. The city of Arkville was built off of cruelty that twisted the Decebal men into creatures carved in darkness.
Love was never a part of the Decebal men’s design. None of them know how to give it—only how to consume…
“The Filth Kings” is a dark obsessive romance, where love isn’t pure… it’s a filthy possession.

- I’m actually speechless! Wow! I was not expecting it to be this dark! This is probably the spiciest book I’ve literally ever read. I feel like I jumped into the deep end of dark romance!
- I really wanted to love this one, but I didn’t really care about any of the characters other than Monster and Natavi. I loved their relationship and needed more of it! Anytime we were in a different pov I was itching to get back to the other characters!
- I’m new to reading dark romance and this book wasn’t for me, but will definitely be for someone else!

Was it steamy? Sure. But in my opinion, that’s really all it had going for it. The story lacked depth and nuance, and I wasn’t comfortable with how it framed homosexuality, as if it were a disease or an inherent evil. The idea that the father was abusive, violent, and even murderous *because* he was bisexual felt like an oversimplified and harmful narrative.
The dynamic between the two FMCs felt underdeveloped were they truly friends, or was their relationship just convenient? There were a lot of plot elements introduced that never felt fully explored or resolved. Angel was incredibly judgmental, yet she wasn’t any better than Natavi one was a sex worker, and the other was a blogger actively seeking the attention of an alleged psychopath. Their choices were equally questionable, yet Angel’s superiority complex made it hard to sympathize with her.
The reunion between the brothers fell flat it lacked buildup and emotional weight, making what should have been a pivotal moment feel anticlimactic. The entire story felt like a roller coaster that slowly climbs but never actually drops; there was no real payoff. Adding a random POV from the "other side of hell" about a potential enemy at the very end felt unnecessary it didn’t add intrigue because there were no breadcrumbs leading up to it.
There were also some editing issues, but beyond that, I need a story to take me somewhere to teach me something, make me feel something, or at least give me a reason to reflect or connect. Unfortunately, this one didn’t do any of that for me. Instead, it left me frustrated. I also think the category it’s placed in did it a disservice, on Amazon it’s apart of the Black &AA mystery thriller suspense and urban fiction when it’s really more Erotica than anything.

This book was bad. Really fucking bad.
I've read 2 books by this author and they both were not good but they were short erotica type novels so I was able to suffer through them.
Matherpiece is a bad writer. Plain and simple. She doesn't know how to properly craft a story or craft sentences. There is no real descriptive writing that immerses you in the scene. The dialogue is off. There are errors in the writing.
Let's be honest... when reading erotica, writing isn't top priority. So reading a short erotic novel, the main point is the sex scenes.
I will give her that. Her sex scenes are pretty good. They are original and not repeating. So for the short stuff, this carries.
Her attempting a full length novel.... this was torture. At 41%, I still didn't know anything about the characters really. One moment she writes them as if they are all F'd up and then the next, she is calling one FMC who is a call girl....bougie. She tried to set up the characterization for the MMCs as if they are so messed up but powerful... have no morals. But they fall for strangers immediately.
It just doesn't connect.
I read some of the reviews and if the reason for all this was because the dad was gay and didn't want to accept it.... that is the flattest storyline ever. There are so many better ways that could have displayed this outcome that would have made more sense.
Like I said, this book was bad. The sex was good but the storyline and writing is just terrible.
I could literally go on but I won't. You get my drift.

I really wanted to love this one. I don’t think the writing style is for me but I was hoping the story would make up for that…..it did in a way but not enough. I wish this was only about Monster/Natavi because they were giving me Dark Romance, unfortunately the romance was missing from the rest of the book. I didn’t connect with Angel/Detavio, to be frank I don’t care about them at all.
The Octavio/Octavia storyline was interesting but idk how I really feel about it and I can’t say I got enough to really form a full opinion. I know there’s a second book coming focused on them so I might check it out.

Let me start this by saying I love a good Dark Romance the majority of the stuff I read is only dark romance so needless to say I’m surprised that this is considered a dark romance. This was by far one of the tamest book I’ve ever read. It makes me question what I’m reading, because I must just be reading stuff straight from the pit of Hell written by Satan if this is supposed to be dark.
While I do like to read for the vibes, sometimes when the grammar is bad or sporadically all over the place, I’m no longer reading for the vibes; I’m reading for the grammar and I’m judging it. At that point the vibes have left the room. It’s very concerning to me when basic words like your vs you’re, wound vs winded, and childhood (which is one word but is written as two separate words in this book), are used in the most incorrect way possible. All I kept thinking was “Did you not have a friend, an enemy, anyone read this before it was published”. With the amount of grammatical errors that I saw in this, it really shocked me when I went to Amazon originally to add it my Kindle and saw that the paperback version of this book is $100 and the hardback version is $95…GIRL BYE ✋🏾; I was shocked, especially after I read it! If you’re gonna charge that much for a book you better have no errors in it whatsoever. That shit better be on point. It better be tight.
Maybe for some people, this would be considered dark, but for those who have read dark books, that have like three pages of trigger warnings this is not going to be dark. Even the spicy scenes were just giving…meh and we’re basic.
The two stars are for Monster and Natavi because I did actually enjoy their cute little relationship and how it developed and progressed but that’s it.

Honey Boo Boo Chil’… Somebody send help because I AM the problem!
Let’s talk The Filthy Kings by Masterpiece. Whew. From the first chapter to the last page—just straight chaos, carnage, and chemistry. Baby, I’m already plotting on book two because… SON?! What was that?! It was crazy, scary, hilarious, nasty, and had me locked in the whole time.
Angel found out real quick that minding your business could’ve saved her, but nope—she crossed paths with a Detavio and her whole world got flipped. That man entered her life like a storm, and left her wondering what day it was. Absolutely unhinged.
Now let’s talk about my boo Natavi. She wasn’t even the target but got dragged in regardless. Collateral damage? Maybe. But Monster? He stepped all the way up. He was wild, possessive, and exactly what she didn’t know she needed. And don’t get me started on how they balanced each other—chaos and calm, pain and passion. It was giving everything.
The Decebal men? Chile. Unhinged, broken, fine, dangerous, and toxic in ways that had me questioning my morals. Their parents might’ve ruined them, but Angel and Natavi brought fire, healing, and a whole lotta smoke.
This book right here is what a dark romance is supposed to feel like. It had me clenching my pearls and reading like I was hiding state secrets. The filthy was filthin’. The drama was dramatic-ing. This the kind of book you don’t even post under your real name—just know it’s THAT good.

Excuse me?!?!? What on earth did I just read? My brain can't even comprehend the madness.
I can't even form the words to write this review.
Let's start with the positives:
- Monster and Natavi's romance ARC
- Top Tier Smut
However everything else is questionable (at best)
There were moments of extreme discomfort regarding a potential harmful racial characterization, homophobic behaviors, and toying the line on mental diagnosis.
Dark romance is a hard line to toe and sensitivity readers are a must! Not sure if this underwent the necessary review but from my pov it could have used some edits. Towards the end I saw where the author was trying to go but it shouldn't have taken the 90% mark to connect the dots. It felt like that was more for shock value than for context.
I also want to say I was convinced that this was going to be paranormal and that Detavio was going to be an incubus. Cause how the hell are all these women willing to sign this contract? How on earth did Angel have those dreams sight unseen on this man. Parts of this story would make more sense if Detavio, Monster, Octavio and Impurity were demons. I’m just saying.
Angel worked my last nerve with her self centered, judgmental ways. I wonder how her and Natavi became friends because I couldn’t see it.
I cannot understand why there is a need for a part 2. However I will not be reading it.

I don't really know how to rate this because I wasn't really sure what I was expecting from this book, honestly. It kept me intrigued. Some parts I laughed, some I cried, and some I just flat out rolled my eyes. I guess this is one of those books that's like 90% smut and 10% plot because that's what it gave. The only thing that drove me insane was the war she was having between "your" and "you're" ... other than that, it was an okay read

this books covers it all
What a deliciously filthy book. This book was everything . It has kidnapping, family secrets two FMC and two MMC. This is a dark romance that pulls you in from the beginning. The betrayals are real and they have real consequences too. Great read. Spice 5/5. Drama 5/5 if you enjoyed Demons Dream this is a great read as well.

Filthy 🔥🔥
I had to take a couple of days to get myself together. This took me on a wild ride and I actually liked it. Natavi is Monster’s person and it made me see a softer side of him. I want even start on the parents because they were awful. Will you get all the fifth and everything that comes along with it while reading this ABSOLUTELY!!!!!

This book was so good! okaaaay Masterpiece, I see you. This book is dark and unhinged, but it had a GREAT storyline. I even wanted to cry at one point. When you learn the background of these brothers (Detavio, Monster - my fav, Octavio), you will understand why. The parents in this book are sick, and don't get me started on mr shitty-piss. I listened to the audio, while reading the ebook. The narrators did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. Now this kind of dark romance, I think I can handle. Thanks for my intro to the genre 🫡
- kidnapping
- trafficking
- mental, sexual & verbal abuse
- pathetic parents
- stalking
- revenge

Umm, this book was a lot. Definitely more of an erotica book versus romance. It had a story, just not a great one.

This review contains spoilers, read with caution.
Have you ever read a book and you can see where the author is trying to go with the book but maybe you didn’t feel it reached that point? That was this book for me.
First, Masterpiece does an incredible job writing spice scenes. It’s so well written and juicy that you can envision the scene before you, and the scenes in this book get filthy. Check your trigger warnings
Plot: I went into this book just open to it being a dark romance. I have to be honest, by page 142 I was like, what is the main plot line?
I was a bit confused on the world building and for the first quarter of the book I thought the characters were set up in a make believe world, not California. (That could be reader misunderstanding but I was lost for awhile)
Characters:
Natavi: Her story starts off so rough. I was waiting for her redemption arc. It came in the form of new love but I would have loved to see some self-discovery or a gap between her contract with Monster & their eventual romance. To be fair, in the book it does say that Monster & Natavi dove fast. But I think it’s because they were secondary main characters, I wish they were the mains throughout the book.
Angel: I did not find her to be a necessary character. Which is strange because she’s the main character. The whole interviewing the Decebals plot got lost in the smut. I didn’t really understand what she was doing it for? Just to out them in a blog? I would have loved to see that plot line more developed & maybe put her as a side character.
Her dreams were a unique touch to the book, but I never figured out if she was just exploring her sexuality or wanted a poly relationship? Or just fantasizing? I’m not quite sure, that was all left open ended.
Detavio: He would have been a good side character in a story where Monster was the main character.
I had a hard time following his obsession with Angel turned madly in love. Tension and a few more encounters would have made me buy in on the romance.
Monster: Most impactful character with the best growth and character development. He just needed so many more chapters. I had 1000 questions surrounding him, and was a bit underwhelmed at how quick he made a 180 after Natavi came into his life.
I would have loved a more in depth explanation about his parent’s decision to get rid of him. It read as, bizarre.
Jalissa & Impurity: The parents were unreasonably and unnecessarily evil to their children; it seemed that they hated each other for different reasons but the children suffered for it. I did not follow this part of the story and Impurity’s secret life as an undercover gay man did not explain Jalissa’s crimes against Octavio.
Impurity and James being past lovers also came out of no where and further confused me.
What would have made this a 5 star read:
Remove the Detavio & Angel storyline, make Monster the main character, add in more flashback scenes of Monster’s childhood, build & prolong the angst & tension between Monster and Natavi, keep the family drama storyline but make that the main plot. Surround the plot twists around Monster’s family secrets/betrayals. Spend more time on the brother’s reunion and maybe even add in a background chapter on the parents.
More build up to Monster & Natavi falling for each other with her helping Monster navigate reconnecting with his family/healing from his past trauma. & Monster helping her heal from what she went through with Chedda.
Angel could have been a side character. The whole interview plot line wasn’t needed and Detavio could have been a side character to Monster’s family drama story line.
I am struggling with the Octavio storyline because it was so random and an outlier. (I also haven’t read Book 2, so to be fair, this character is likely more explored in the second book)
Overall, I can completely see the goal the author was getting at with the dark romance aspect. I’ve read other books by Masterpiece and she’s done an incredible job.
This book was not a personal favorite but worth reading if you are going into this for the hot and steamy smut.

I really had high hopes for this book, but I ended DNF’ing it at 34%. I enjoy a good dark romance, but this one felt quite disjointed. There seemed to be two main storylines: Octavio and Angel, and Monster and Natavi. It felt like the author was trying to incorporate multiple tropes—revenge, stalker, enemies-to-lovers with one pair, and forced arrangement, dark lover with the other. After one chapter, it jumps from her going to his house to the next day, where he suddenly has a soft side and transforms into a knight-in-shining-armor figure, wanting her to leave the streets and stop selling herself. There was a lack of development in the storyline. The other storyline featuring Octavio and Angel felt a bit drawn out, almost a slow burn. I suppose he wanted to toy with her a bit before getting more involved.
Were there dark elements in the story? Yes. Was there romance? Yes. But do I consider this a true dark romance? Not really.

What a freaking ride this book was! Reading is definitely subjective and I’m so happy I am not the kind of reader to base what I read on the reviews and ratings of others because this was entertaining and pure chaos. I wanted to see what the heck happened. Then the twists and turns kept hitting and I was like OMG, are you kidding me! I was disgusted and needed some kind of light at the end of the tunnel moment.
Simply put, parents can really screw their kids up! OMG!
My heart goes out to the three brothers, Monster (sold and abused), Dectavio (forced to partake in his father’s dark deeds), and Octavio (identity taken from him). Jalissa and Impurity’s darkness completely ruined their sons, but thank goodness for character development, grace, and love, I feel these brothers will be okay.
That ending with shitty and pissy Herringbone already has me pissed off for book 2 though. What a cliffhanger!
The author did a great job tying the storyline together, answering any question, a full and wholesome wrap up, and connecting the dots. There’s a lot of characters and interweaving pieces but stay the course!
Warning: This book contains sex trafficking, human trafficking, bondage, violence, sex work, homophobia, child abuse.
I wouldn’t say that this is an erotica, but it has spice. There’s literally a whole storyline!

“Her happiness would be swallowed up by my darkness.”
If you are looking for a dark romance then this may be for you.
-LGBTQ+ characters
-pushing past forgiveness
-rise from the ashes MCs
-thick bodied FMC
-very heavy spice
-revenge & getting your lick back
-navigating trauma
-unapologetic murder & violence
-multilayered, memorable characters
-multiple POVs
-sexual kinks & exploration
-8/10 audiobook
-check your trigger warnings
This was a very chaotic ride from start to finish. I would not suggest this if you are a beginner dark romance reader. This was heavily layered, dark, unapologetic, raw, morally gray & disturbing.
My favorite character was easily Monster. His character added an authentic & relatable element to the story. The trigger warnings alone cause a plethora of emotions. But, almost every chapter of his made the story more enjoyable in an emotional way.
I’m not sure if I’ll read the 2nd one.
I feel like this one was enough for me. I don’t have many questions that would lead me to want to read the duology in its entirety. But, this was a solid, dark read.
This was my first book from the author and it won’t be my last.

This is where you need to be
First and most important, if you've read this book, I don't care who your book bae is. I just need you to know it's not Monster. I'm glad we could get that cleared up.
The Filth Kings is a story of redemption, lust, vengeance, and greed. Angel and her best friend Natavia are very different people. Angel comes from a wealthy family, and she has a successful blog. Natalia is an entrepreneur of sorts as well. Unfortunately, she has to split funds with a man who takes advantage of her. Their respective careers lead them into the hands of the Decebal family, where things get dark and dirty.
This story checked off a lot of my boxes. There was a mysterious aspect that kept me turning pages. I loved the time Masterpiece took in creating the emotional development of the characters. The four main characters felt very familiar. I was able to relate to their feelings, and there were moments when I WISH I could be feeling what they were feeling. The storyline is easy to follow, but the characters are so multifaceted that they add layers to the plot. I do wish the FMCs were as developed as the MMCs, and I felt the dialogue lacked continuity, but I am excited to see how this story grows.

My first urban dark romance recommended by some friends of mine. I did not know what to expect honestly & I was intrigued. It started out on 10 and slowed a lil thru the mid but ended with a strong kick.
There was an unexpected twist that I didn’t see coming & I was shocked!

Detavio x Angel & Monster x Natavi
Chileeee…..what do y’all have me reading out here in these literary streets? I don’t know if I would call this a dark romance, but it was definitely twisted!
I almost DNF’d this book because it started out slow. At first the story line was all over the place, it lacked depth, and it took a while for characters to be developed. However, when the book started focusing on Monster, there was a shift and I locked in. The story line started to take shape and it finally came together.
This book focused on two MMCs and FMCs and their connections to each other. Now, while I fell in love with Monster and Natavi’s story, I’m still scratching my head about Datavio and Angel’s situationship (I may come back later and update my review after I sit with it for a bit.)
This book focused on family drama and betrayal….Sometimes it be your own people! It also tapped into two of the most unsuspecting people and their journey towards normalcy and love. Check your triggers.…this one gets into some really touchy subjects.
3.75 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mind blowing💣💣
From the beginning when Jalissa gave birth to Monster thinking that Purity would leave his wife and be with her, she didn't expect what he had in mind for their first born, she should have taken his wife up on her offer but she felt she could change him, years later and two more sons Jalissa hadn't changed his thoughts on kids.
The things that Monster endured all his life until he was rescued from a fire but lost his only friend at the time the only one that showed true feelings for him. Once he was on Detavio team he knew his mom had fabricated the description on Dectavio; so when she showed up at his house Dec taboo thought he had been betrayed which wasn't the case but the icing on the cake was when he was told that Monster was his older brother which made him more devastated especially after shooting him.
The Decebal sons have been put through so much not being able to be in touch with their emotions until they come across two best friends Angel and Natavi and they couldn't understand what they were feeling but were determined to have these women in their lives. Natavia going through her own thing once she.landed the job for Monster that was when she discovered her passion as.well as.true real love and desire. Octavio the baby of the three had to take matters into his own hands and distance himself from his crazy mom who was trying to change his DNA, he went as far as to make up a.fatal illness just so he could have.some type of peace and to be able to live in his truth. Can wait to see what's next with these brothers, Impurity skeletons will forever keep coming out

🖤
My favorite was Natavi & Monster. I felt more of a connection with them two versus Angel & Devatio. Angel & Devatio had more of a sexual connection, whereas Natavi & Monster had more of an emotional connection.
The secrets and lies. The twists and turns 😰. Jalissa & Impurity were some sick @$$ parents. Like wtf 🤯. I hope to see more of Octavio in the next book. I’m so curious about him.
Ngl I was so invested in this. This was good asf. I can’t wait for part 2.
