Unleash the Fury is a gritty, high-stakes East-meets-West thriller where morals are few and far between, and the cost of doing the right thing might be everything.

This is a dynamic, high-stakes thriller novel. The plot was riveting from the first chapter onward, so much so I read it in one sitting. The protagonist’s internal and external struggles kept me on the edge of my seat and I enjoyed the author’s method of developing the characters, considering the unique circumstances of the plot and how fast-paced the book reads, I was impressed with this.
I had the opportunity to meet with the Author of this book, who described it as intense. He told me the plot picks up quickly, and he wasn’t kidding.
This is a fast moving, exciting detective read. The protagonist (our Detective Sandes) is off on a vacation on the Asian continent. Specifically, Sri Lanka and the surrounding areas. Stopping in a small town for a bite to eat begins our tale of gangs, a struggling community, and unlikely heroes. Detective Sandes infiltrates the gangs that the local police have turned a blind eye too. Something the detective just can’t stomach. Trying to fly under the radar isn’t easy, but John (Detective Sandes) gives his all to root out the evil in this small town. There are multiple bad guys all vying for positions. There is a plot inside of all this gang activity that is front and center that John must navigate making himself invaluable to both sides. Trying to save the good people in this small town has become John’s goal. Lots of action throughout the story keeps your attention. Follow John on a vacation to remember with twists and turns throughout the book. This is a 5-star read with an excellent surprise ending.
This one was… mid. It has the vibes of the the Die Hard movies or Olympus has Fallen, with a slightly surprising twist tossed in at the end. The short chapters and fast pace kept me going, but it’s very much an all‑American‑hero‑saves‑the‑day kind of book. If that’s your thing, it’s worth a flip. If not, you’re fine skipping it.
Joseph Paul D’Aquisto delivers a gripping and powerful story with Unleash the Fury. His writing has real intensity, pulling you into the atmosphere and keeping you there. A passionate and bold voice — highly recommended!
A wonderful read. Right from the start you jump into the main character. The author does a great job creating familiar experiences and at the same time thrusting you right into the splendid chaos he's created. Caution: May cause sleeplessness. I highly recommend and look forward to more.
3.5/5 stars. I enjoyed the plot of the book but felt like there were a couple of plot points that were randomly mentioned or hinted at but not well explored/left some missing pieces. Still a pretty good read and I look forward to seeing what the author writes next.
Unleash the Fury is a really engaging read and I would absolutely recommend it. Detective John Sandes is the kind of character that really carries the story—grounded, believable, and easy to follow without feeling overdone.
The noir atmosphere is one of the strongest parts of the book. It gives everything a gritty, moody detective feel that fits the story really well and makes the world feel lived-in.
This is actually the second book in the series, and I’d suggest starting with Left for Death so you get the full arc of John Sandes. I’m someone who really enjoys series where you can follow the same characters from book to book, and this is exactly that kind of story. I like seeing how characters develop over time, and this series sets that up nicely.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience of reading this. It’s well-paced, character-driven, and kept me engaged throughout.
