A book that combines Billy the Kid (and other Lincoln County) History with the Paranormal, what's not to love?
I actually found out about the release of this book while attending the 2025 Roswell Galacticon. John actually discussed it, and of course, I couldn't pass it up!
Right off the bat I just wanted to say this feels different than John's other books (at least the ones I have reviewed). Now this isn't a bad thing, and it really just feels more formal and in line with the Haunted America series that this book is apart of.
It isn't all spooks, and I think even if your not a fan of Paranormal or Ghost Stories, there still is a lot to love here history wise, and you would pry enjoy it. From (of course) Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, The Lincoln County War to Ghost Steers, Smoky Bear and the Bonito Valley Massacre this book crams a lot of good information (and perhaps inspiration for videos) into its 128 page count.
John delivers another fun read, even if the history isn't always good....(I mean some bad stuff happened out west).
overall - 8.0 / 10.0
I think this one is pretty comparable in quality to Adam Selzer's Ghosts of Lincoln, which also has lots of great history and some spooks!
I very much enjoy this author, but I found this book to be a bit of a disappointment. Although I don’t personally believe in ghosts and what not I thought this would be a fun read about haunted Lincoln County. It was a great refresher on Lincoln history, but lacked ghost tales. All in all I found it was more about the history of Lincoln County more than supernatural occurrences. Still, very well researched and interesting, just not what I was expecting.
