Love at the Gates of Hell

Rate this book
Gideon Crawford is used to working in the shadows. A professional thief and expert forger, he’s not exactly what you’d call a nice guy and he’s certainly no one’s hero. But when he’s hired to babysit a goody two-shoes mafia princess, Gideon is suddenly thrust into an entirely different kind of underground. One filled with witches and blood magic.

Overworked PhD candidate, Benny Russo, is juggling a few secrets along with her upcoming thesis presentation. With a notorious father, Benny has been hiding her true abilities her entire life. She’s a light witch with blood so rare that even the dead are trying to find her.

Forced together to keep her safe, a connection ignites between them that neither can ignore—even if Benny’s penchant for diving head first into danger tests Gideon’s ability to keep everything under control. With the threat against Benny looming closer and closer, the two must learn to work together or risk Benny's light extinguishing forever.

Love At The Gates Of Hell has everything I love—suspense, supernatural twists, a little chaos, and some seriously fiery chemistry between the main characters.

Gideon Crawford is basically the ultimate reluctant protector. He’s a professional thief (so you know he’s a bit morally grey in all the best ways), and then he gets thrown into this job of tracking down a mob boss’s daughter… who turns out to be Benny, our badass, secret-keeping, smart-mouthed witch of a heroine. I adored her. Benny is juggling grad school, supernatural blood that people would literally kill for, and oh yeah—a sarcastic streak that drives Gideon up the wall. Their banter? Chef’s kiss. The chemistry? Phenomenal.

I also really, really loved the side characters—Luke and Cleo are just perfection. Luke’s the classic good-hearted brother also vampire, and Cleo? Precious. Gem. Must be protected at all costs. I found myself wanting a whole spin-off with just those two, honestly (also hoping they get together).

The paranormal/angel-demon mythology vibes add this cool, layered tension to the story, and it never gets too heavy or confusing—it’s just enough to make things interesting without taking away from the romance and character moments.

Highly recommend if you like a steamy, suspenseful paranormal romance with snark, slow-burn tension, and a strong found family vibe. I’m already counting down the days until book two!

I absolutely loved this! There was so much depth to this story, and it hooked me in from start to finish. This was different than what I initially expected, but also SO much better than I could’ve imagined. I adored each and every character, and felt like I was a part of this world too. I would love to see a continuation of this story in the future featuring other characters!
Huge thank you to Stella Rossi for trusting me and allowing me to read this ARC, I throughly enjoyed it & can’t wait to read whatever else she whips up in the future.

This was such a cool book. Part paranormal romance and part fast paced action/heist story with morally gray everyone. 😍

Gideon is a stoic, talented thief tasked with finding (and then protecting) Benedetta, the kidnapped daughter of a crime lord. He's only recently been introduced to the hidden world of the supernatural and is still grappling with the implications.

But there's waaaay more than meets the eye with Benny. She's a PhD candidate working on her dissertation, oh, and she's a rare and powerful witch. And she's PISSED that her kidnappers interrupted her PhD work.

I loved all the characters. The side characters were as well rounded as the main characters. There are a few side characters that I really hope get their own stories in the future. 🤞🏻

Read if you love:
Vampires
Witches
Jewel heists
Biblically accurate angels
Forced proximity
Strong FMCs
In-over-their-heads MMCs
Saving the world hijinks

This is your next romantasy. Seriously—skip the rest of this review and just start reading.

Within a few chapters, I knew this story was something special. The author builds a rich, original world filled with depth and heart. The characters are magnetic—especially the fierce, intelligent, unapologetically feminist heroine who anchors it all.

If you're craving a fresh take on romantasy with substance, tension, and soul, this one delivers. I truly hope the series continues—it deserves to.

This book was quite fun. I have a lot of mixed emotions when it comes to the story and the characters. Both had this element of surprise to them. The story starts off pretty strong and carries on strongly. However I liked the fact that the boys were vampires. Gideon and Benny are such a soft couple when they admit their feelings for each other. I love that about them. Finding love despite the issues going on. Luke was a great character to have around for them. He brought the humor and smile to everything. The other characters all fit too. They all worked in their own aspects. I did enjoy this book a lot more than I expected to. It was very interesting and reading it gave me some high emotions.

If you're craving a story with tension, teeth, and a whole lot of chemistry, Love at the Gates of Hell absolutely delivers.
Our MMC is professional thief & bad boy, Gideon Crawford. He is tasked with tracking down our FMC, Benny who is a mob boss’ daughter & a witch with blood so powerful it could start a war.
Their banter is electric, the chemistry sizzles off the page, and the emotional payoff? So worth it.
The world building is just the right amount of dark and twisty, with angels, demons, witches, and black market blood magic.
This one kept me hooked from the first chapter and left me desperate for more. If you're into stories that are equal parts danger, magic, and slow-burning heat, this needs to be on your radar.

What a ride!

Love at the Gates of Hell completely surprised me in the best way. It’s gritty, fast-paced, and packed with the kind of tension that keeps you turning the pages way past bedtime. Stella Rossi delivers a totally fresh twist on the mafia romance genre by blending it with supernatural elements — witches, vampires that pulls you in from the first page.

I absolutely loved Benny and Gideon. Their chemistry is electric! Just the right amount of heat.

I also found myself super intrigued by Luke (👀 book two, please?!).

If you’re into romantasy, mafia/paranormal add this to your TBR immediately.

I thought this was a pretty fun story with the way it mixed paranormal elements with mafia vibes. I was also highly entertained by this taking place in Philadelphia and it sort of gave a more realistic feel to the story for me.

Overall though, I sort of wanted more? I felt like the elements in the story worked well as their own thing but it got a little muddy for me when they combined. I generally just wanted more mafia vibes. It's clear that Benny's dad is a mafia type, and Gideon/Luke are hired thieves (part of their character background) but most of this was focused on the witch elements until like 75% in when you finally see them stealing stuff, but even that was short lived. They have weapons training and are fighting but don't really see that much of it.

To add to that, I also wanted more witch background. The beginning gave good lore tidbits but it sort of falls to the wayside and it's just them like, planning for the final battle....sort of.

I did enjoy the romance between Benny and Gideon even though again, it felt fast and I wanted more. I think all my feelings around this story can be summed up with "I wanted more". It felt like they got together fast and then shit started to hit the fan so you couldn't even really sit with that connection.

You understand Benny's thought processes but everyone else is just along for the ride. There are some side characters that felt like they just existed in the narrative and it brings me back to wanting more.

For this to be a debut though (I think) it was good! I was into the story and the writing itself was solid. I just wanted less description and more background on the characters and what they're fighting for. I'm unsure if this is a planned series as it ended sort of open ended, but I'm definitely willing to tune in for whatever Stella writes next!

Thank you to the author for the arc!

This was honestly a super fun read. From the clashing personalities to the character development we got. These characters left me wanting more by the end, and fighting to stay awake at night.

MMC Gideon is a professional thief who is hired by a mob boss to find and rescue his missing daughter. Benny, the FMC, is a PHD candidate just trying to prepare for her upcoming thesis presentation. Benny is hiding a massive secret; she is a witch with very rare blood. The kind worth killing over.

The chemistry between the characters was quite nice, seeing how they flowed together and could quickly begin to understand each other. Even when the way they met was less than perfect. The connection between them seemed genuine. I did love the tie-in to Benny's mother, seeing a bit of that sprinkled in left me with so many questions and wanting to know more. I honestly would have loved to see more of her dad and their relationship as a whole.

The world-building and magic system were honestly super straightforward to understand. With witches, vampires, demons, and angels, I loved seeing how they interacted and worked together. This book's twists and turns honestly had me questioning what was really going on. I loved it when the ball dropped and realization set in. I will also mention this book does tie in some spicy scenes, which tied in really well with the plot and complemented the story well.

Love at the Gates of Hell was so much more than I was expecting, and I absolutely loved it! This book is a unique combination of mafia and paranormal romance, with fast paced action, magic, and morally grey everyone.

I loved Gideon. He is the ultimate planner, provider, and protector despite his vulnerable humanness in a world full of powerful paranormals. He lead a hard life and hides the depth of his emotions behind a mask of grumpy stoicism. Benny is fabulous! She was intelligent, quick-witted, and sassy, which lead to some topnotch banter that had me snickering. Their chemistry was off the charts and Gideons “f*ck it” moment was SO. GOOD! The build up to it was so well done and once they finally got together I was giggling like a mad woman😂

The world building was immersive and enjoyable, with Rossi adding her own unique locations and fun twists to the East Coast landscape. The plot was super fun and drew me in immediately. The combination of mafia and paranormal action was really well done and thoroughly gripping. I’m excited to see where Stella Rossi takes us next!

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from Stella Rossi and I loved it! If you’re looking for a contemporary paranormal romance filled with witty banter, lovable characters, and powerful magic then Love at the Gates of Hell is for you!

Benny is a rare witch and is being hunted by an unknown person for some ritual to become a demon and open a gate to Hell. She ends up kidnapped and her mafioso father hires the Crawford brothers to find and rescue her. What Gideon expected to be a simple job turned into so much more as he attempts to keep Benny safe and help hunt down this mystery person who's hunting her. He certainly didn't expect to fall in love…

“I like you princess. I like your smart mouth, and your inability to listen to a damn thing I say. I like you so fucking much that it’s driving me out of my mind.”

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I liked the paranormal meets mafia aspect, that felt unique. I enjoyed the characters, the main characters as well as the supporting characters felt well developed. I also like that it doesn't end on a cliffhanger but definitely leaves the story opened enough for there to be next book. Maybe between Luke and Cleo???

“He would give her every breath in his body if it meant bringing her back.”

Tropes: bodyguard, forced proximity, mafia, feminine rage, mutual pining

I’ve been reading so much contemporary romance so this one’s definitely a breather! It’s also my first paranormal romance read 🤭

✧.* 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 ᯓ★

This book was honestly a breath of fresh air for me. I mean, DUH, it’s my first paranormal romance read! And my thoughts? I loved it! The writing is so good and the first chapter hooks you instantly. I love how it’s not all just romance and sex but there’s also action and an actual plot around the story. The characters here are lovable too. Thankfully, no pissed me off LOL so that’s definitely telling of how this book goes.

Gideon reminds me of every other eldest sibling who’s a perfectionist and just wants to be in control of everything to keep everyone safe and protected. In a way, I can relate but I appreciate how he slowly loosens up and trusts Benedetta’s choices. And speaking of Benedetta, I love how she's a female character with some sense in her LOL. She’s actually useful and driven to hone her powers better. She doesn’t rely on everyone else. In fact, she’d rather do things alone than having people fight her battle and die. Also, I just want to say that her relationship with her father is heartwarming. It reminds me of me and my dad.

I love the whole found family thing going on. And can I just say that I lowkey ship Luke and Cleo LMFAO. Anyway, this was a good read and I recommend it!

For a debut novel, this is a strong effort. While it is a bit long, the story is interesting.
Benny is a fascinating female main character, especially because she is a rare witch. I just wish we had gotten more of her backstory earlier. By the time we meet her, she is already being held captive for her unique blood, so we miss out on a bunch of her past.

The Crawford brothers. I was happy to see Benny and Gideon end up together. Their relationship is sweet.

Overall, I liked the side characters. I think Luke and Cleo may end up together, or I am hoping.

The story itself was good, though some parts felt a little slow. It was also a bit light on spicy scenes, with only two in the whole book, and the first one didn't happen until about 57% of the way through.

Overall, great debut novel!

MY GOD this book was GOOD. I can’t believe I got this for free during a stuff your kindle day. Genuinely I want to buy a physical copy because there’s no way I got to read that for free.

This book was everything I wanted. Badass paranormal FMC. A little bit of a mafia moment going on. So many loveable characters-- AND THE CHEMISTRY. Actual chemistry between the first couple. Without dumbing down the FMC to some maiden needing saving. Gideon and Benny are both strong in their own ways, and I love that they use their strengths together.

The plot hooks you, and the romance moves smoothly within it. The smut also doesn’t interrupt the story (and is well written) which I really appreciated. Everyone please go read this book.

Benny was a FMC to love. With her quick comebacks and inability to just sit idly, you get the sense that being hunted isn’t really all too scary on her list of lived experience’s. Gideon is enraptured from start to finish with her even when she turns out completely opposite of who he believed her to be. His own feelings seem to surprise him with every passing day.

Applause to Stella for this one. I was very in tune from maybe chapter two. It continued to draw me in over and over with the deep intimacy that Benny and Gideon emitted on page in every solo scene. UGH and Luke !?!?! Plssss give me him. I NEED HIM !

This book is incredible! It gave me everything I love in books: found family, supernatural beings, a sweet and tender unexpected love between a mafia princess with a gift and the reluctant, slightly morally grey outlaw who least expected to find it, action, spice, banter, wit, and characters I adored and am intrigued to learn more about as a whole and as individuals. I cried, laughed, crossed my fingers at certain points, and slowed my reading because I wasn't ready to let go of the characters and the story. I am anxiously awaiting book 2 now.

Good story length, easy to follow story.
Does have multi pov

I enjoyed reading this book. It was quirky with great dialogue between the mains.
I did get a bit lost between the multi pov but that is a personal preference on reading style and not a reflection on the author.

Personally, I just found this book very boring. Like I wasn’t Vibing with the characters at all. I found them very annoying, and it was hard to pinpoint with the characters and the magical aspect of the world.

I just feel like it needed something more and the book did not have it. I pretty much DNF like 40% of the way through. Like I was very confused and I didn’t make sense kind of.
