Marine for Hire

Rate this book
A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

She thought she’d sworn off military men for good…

Sam Kercher is every inch a wickedly hot Marine. Tall. Sexy. Lethal. When his best friends call in a favor, Sam is forced to face an entirely new line of duty—playing nanny for their newly divorced sister and her squirming seven-month-old twin boys. If Sam can dissemble an M16 in his sleep, diaper duty should be a cakewalk…right?

Unfortunately, Operation Nanny isn’t quite that simple. Sheridan has sworn off overbearing military men, so Sam must protect her from her dirtbag ex without revealing just how much he has in common with her brothers. Or that he’s been ordered not to touch her. Ever. Problem is, Sheri’s one hell of a gorgeous woman, capable of making this hard-bodied marine even harder. And Sam wants her bad.

Protect the girl. Care for the babies. Hide his identity. And keep his hands off. But even the most disciplined Marine has weaknesses...and Sheridan is one Sam might not be able to resist.

Ladies, meet Sam Kercher

A rough, rugged, handsome Marine...
and manny?
Yep, you read that right. A sexy marine manny is what you'll be getting here.(That's a male nanny, if you're not familiar)

Tawna Fenske is a new to me author, and after reading this book, she is going straight to my authors to look out for list. I was in the mood for something a little sexy and cute and this definitely delivered. The entire time I was reading it was like a Romantic Comedy was playing in my head, and I loved that. This book had everything, great characters, sexy marines, funny best friends, laugh out loud moments, and steam steam STEAM!

One of my favorite parts was the banter between Sheridan and her best friend Kelli. I was giggling like an idiot through most of their conversations.

Sheridan is recently divorced after her douchebag of a husband cheated on her with a stripper.
And I'm especially glad your douchebag ex is gone." She frowned. "Was that too insensitive?"
"Please. I spent three years married to Captain Insensitive. At this point you could tell me to go fuck myself and I'd feel giddy someone's talking dirty to me.

Being a mommy of twins isn't easy. So when her brother Mac offers to help her find a nanny, she's quick to agree. Struggling with being a working mom, Sheridan fears that she's not quite up to par as the other "normal moms". What if the nanny ends up being better with her kids than she is?
What if they love the nanny more?"
"Impossible. You've got great tits."
"Thank you. Exactly what every woman wants to be appreciated for."
"You know what I mean. For-uh-nursing and stuff. Not that your nanny won't have tits, but yours are dinner. You win.

So the last thing she expects when the nanny shows up is that there are no tits, but a great set of pecs. And the body and face to be attached to it is sexy as hell. Can't say I blame you, Sheridan. The more I read about Sam, the more my libido would go

Sam has been attracted to the gorgeous brunette ever since he first stumbled into her at a party years ago. He's not surprised she doesn't remember him from back then. But the attraction between them now is certainly simmering.
Are you trying to drive me insane, or do you genuinely want me to throw you across this table and fuck you 'till neither of us can stand?".

Hmm..let me think on that for a minute, Sam.

I appreciated the slow build that the author gave to their attraction. I'm glad that they didn't jump into bed together right away. Rather the sexual tension was built to the point of boiling and when it finally did happen? Well damn. No complaints from this girl.

There were many laugh out loud moments, particularly a part when Sam has to change one of the twins but doesn't have diapers. There was even a little suspense thrown into the mix with Sheridan's ex harassing her.

This was an entertaining read, though nothing I would see myself going back to. I did enjoy it, but there were some parts that had my interest waning a bit.

The set up for Mac's book already has me sold. I'm already hoping that it will be Kelli that brings this sexy and mysterious Marine to his knees. I'm definitely looking forward to all future books from this author. And if you're looking for a fun and sexy read, you really can't go wrong with this one.

THREE AND A HALF MARINE STYLE STARS.

description

Tawna Fenske is yet another fabulous Brazen author to look out for and I can gladly admit that I'm already impatiently waiting for book two of this series. 'Marine for hire' was everything a brazen fix should be; cute, lighthearted and laugh out loud funny. I can't resist a romance novel that gives me a lovely dose of the warm and fuzzies and happily this book delivered, here are the rest of my thoughts ...

What's it all about?
Ex marine and all round rugged male, Sam Kercher has been approached by his fellow solider and best friend to take up a challenge that may just be out of Sam's usual comfort zone. With a favour to return and nothing else to loose Sam is about to become a nanny to baby boy twins for a week. Sheridan has had her fill of men in uniform, recovering from a nasty breakup from her ex husband she is determined to focus on her twin boys, her new job and moving forward with her life. When Sheri and Sam meet sparks fly but Sam has been warned that a relationship with his best friends sister is off limits and Sheri has sworn off men for now. So when Sheri's live in nanny becomes to hard to resist they both must decide if a future together is worth the risk.

description

What did I love?
The author combined seductive, comical and romance really well. The book never felt drawn out or boring, Instead it was a likeable story with equally likeable characters. The plot was humorous and the sexual tension was sizzling. I'm not normally a fan of books that have children in them, but this author played it well, instead of it taking away from the romance, it added a dimension that was fun and refreshing. The twins were so adorable and the interaction between the boys and our hero ex marine made my heart melt. Sheri as a mum and heroine was very relatable she has fears and insecurities just like the rest of us and I loved how the author showed her strengths and weaknesses without making her whiny or annoying. Sam was scrumptious, he was perfect part alpha and the rest part softy on the inside, everything about him screamed 'take-me-now' but he had a caring loveable side that would melt the stoniest of hearts. I think it's safe to say that I enjoyed both the hero and heroine but I have to confess that my favourite character was the best friend kelli, she was absolutely hilarious her one liners and solid friendship to Sheri really appealed to my reading tastes and I'll be more than happy to read future books by this author if they feature this beauty. All in all I enjoyed this book throughout it gave me an easy breezy escape and I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Why not five?
As much as the book appealed to my easy reading tastes it missed out on the wow factor, some of the scenes just passed me by instead of grabbing my whole, undivided attention. Don't get me wrong a three star is likeable enough for me, but I won't be re-reading this story and it may become a little forgettable in the future.

description

Final thoughts ...
'Marine for hire' is another easy-peasy, must grab brazen book for a rainy day, when you need to do nothing more than sit back, relax and fall in love. Go grab this perfect 'filler' on release day, enjoy ... Kisses.

Marine for Hire was a sweet, fun and sexy read for me. The steam level could have been a bit steamier but I did love Sam and Sheridan (Sheri) together. ❤

Sam Kercher is Sheridan’s brother Mac’s best friend and one sexy Marine. Mac is calling in a favor and Sam finds himself agreeing to watch over Sheridan for a couple of weeks while Mac is unable to. But it just isn’t Sheridan, it is her twin boys Jackson and Jeffrey too. Though a bit rattled with this whole proposition, Sam agrees to be their nanny.

Sheridan is definitely unsure about agreeing to Sam being their nanny. She has just come out of a less then perfect marriage to “Lieutenant Limpdick” aka Jonathan Price, her ex-husband. Who just happens to be a military man too. Sheri has a lot going on in her life. She has just moved to Kauai, she is staring a new job and she is determined to take care of her boys. But she knows she cannot do it by herself so with a bit of reluctance she accepts Mac’s offer of Sam as her nanny.

 photo PicMonkeyCollage_zps05fd6acf.jpg

When Sheri and Sam meet the preverbal sparks fly, the sexual tension meter rises and they both find it difficult to resist each other. Sam has already been warned to keep his hands off of Mac’s sister and Sheri knows she doesn’t need another man in her life, at least right now.

I have to say there were a lot of funny moments in this book. Between the stuff Sheri’s best friend Kelli would say, the situations that Sam found himself in with Jackson and Jeffrey and Sheri’s attempt at being a “real mom” I found myself laughing and giggling a number of times. I love it when a books does that to me. :) I also found myself relating to Sheri with her insecurities with being a good mom. Her emotions felt real for me. But Sheri was also strong and this just made her more loveable. But I do have to be honest, I thought Sam was great, I thought he was Sexy, but it did take me a little while to wrap my mind around him being a nanny.

I also thought this author did a great job with the buildup of Sam and Sheri’s relationship. The sexual tension was HOT! When they finally get together it was amazing and it just got better.

All and all this was a good read for me. It falls into to my "didn’t LOVE it but did enjoy it" category. I would have like the steam level a bit higher and maybe a little more time spent with the crazy ex-husband in the picture. I loved Kelli and she was just extra bonus in this story. Some of the things that came out of her mouth were hilarious.

If you are looking for an easy read or that filler book, give this one a try.

3 stars!

Marine For Hire was exactly the type of book that I was in the mood for today, and I’m so glad I took the time to read it. Sweet, sexy, and funny, with a little bit of suspense, Marine For Hire was an ideal way to spend a few hours escaping from reality.

This book may be my ideal fantasy. A huge hunk of a marine comes to help out his friend’s sister (who’s a recently divorced mother of twin baby boys). This amazingly attractive man is extremely physically fit, amazing in the kitchen, fabulous in bed, and comfortable and competent with babies.

There were many things that I enjoyed about this book, but the humor was what impressed me the most. This book has MANY laugh-out- loud moments and priceless dialogue that kept me smiling and flipping pages as quickly as I could.

I also liked all the characters. Even the horrible ex-husband was characterized perfectly and became the perfect villain in this fun and flirty romance.

Many romance novels have switched to heavy angst, extremely tormented characters, and very heavy and dark plot lines. I’ve forgotten that romance novels really don’t require all of that. Just give me likeable characters, an attractive hero, some conflict to overcome, and a satisfying happily-ever-after ending, and I am a happy lady. Marine For Hire delivers on all these fronts.

Recommended when you want a quick read that makes you laugh, sigh, and just plain “feel good”.

I was looking for some good palate cleansers with a deep backlist and went for Fenske. Sweet, sexy story that isn't too challenging.

A non-zero part of me is actually doing this to see if I can find a book my friend had been ISO.

4 - "He look's like the sort of guy who'd be very attentive to your orgasm." Stars!

Marine for Hire is one of those books that you pick up and don’t put down again until you have finished it. There isn’t a thing about this book that I didn’t like; Sam and Sheri were both likeable, strong characters with well developed, but not overly dramatic backgrounds. The secondary characters Mac (Sheri’s brother and Sam’s friend), and Kelli (Sheri’s best friend) also figured quite a bit in the story and really added value to it as well.

”It’s Sam actually, but we can go with Mr. Beefcake is that’s more comfortable.”

I loved the addition of the twins Jeffrey and Jackson into the mix, let’s face it babies always will add the ‘Ahh’ factor. The writing style was light, engaging and entertainingly blunt.

Tawna Fenske has encapsulated perfectly what I would term as ‘normal conversation’ I could hear the characters talking, the quips and one-liners had me laughing pretty much from the beginning, and because of this it made what could have been a bland and average sort of story, shine like a bright, new penny.

”I have more brothers than pubic hairs.”

Interspersed with the humour though are a couple who are strongly attracted to each other, Sheri has been hurt by a cheating ex-spouse ’Lieutentant Limpdick’, and Sam has been tasked by her brother Mac, too make sure that he doesn't attempt to wangle his way back into her life again, now that she is moving on. Sheri has sworn off men in general and military men in particular. So when Mac asks Sam to keep his true identity and motivations for being her live-in Manny a secret, as you can imagine things run less than smoothly. Think Mrs. Doubtfire but with a hot guy not dressed as a woman!

”It was a bit of a shock expecting Mary Poppins and seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

You know that this couple together are going to be hot, the pages literally pulse with the sexual tension between them, and I loved that Sheri was the one to take the lead and initiate things when she wanted Sam.

”So.” ... “Are you trying to drive me insane, or do you genuinelt want me to throw you across this table and fuck you ‘til neither of us can stand.”

This book was a total win; I had a blast reading it, and cannot wait to jump straight into Fiancée for Hire next.

It was a cute, sexy story. I tend to love books with children in them. I love seeing the nurturing/protective side of a hero...he's all the more heroic for it, in my opinion. I think I was a bit disappointed that the kids felt more like a side note to the story. We didn't get much interaction with them, just scenes in which they were a part of or allusions to trouble they caused. I thought that it was a bit odd that the mother couldn't tell the twins apart. I mean, is that really a problem? Even for identical twins, I think a mom would know. I could be wrong though.

This was definitely a predictable book...no bones about it, it's obvious the way every detail was going to play out. So that was kind of meh. The ex husband was a total prick, which made it easy to hate him. The romance literally seeped from the pages almost instantly, and it got too pervasive at times. Even for those newly in love/lust, these two were like raging hormonal teens for most of the book.

So, according to Goodreads standards, this was OK.

My review:

I have been reading a lot of super cute reads! This is definitely one of them. This is a kind of funny story of Sheridan who desperately needs help raising her twin 7 month old boys. They were just the sweetest babies! Her douchebag of a husband, slept with a stripper while she was waiting her allotted time after having babies to have sex. What an asshole! Anyways, her brother, who is in the military - the Marine's I believe, gets one of his close friends Sam to apply for the nanny position that she has posted. What was so cute about this read was that the hero actually met the heroine a long time ago, when he was a skinny geek, before the Marines. She caught his eye during that time and he has had a massive crush on her ever since. I am going to go with my assumption that this hero is not a man whore at all. There are never ever any other women mentioned at all in this story. Not even when he last had sex - nothing. No crazy exes coming out of the woodwork. No other women mentioned PERIOD. I would have to guess with the way he is, that he probably wasn't one that got on with the ladies LOL but I found that endearing. He was recently finished with his latest tour of the Marines and was currently working for his parents trying to figure out if he would go back again or not. Well, needless to say, once he meets the heroine again and her two adorable boys, they soon worm their way into his heart.

This was very low on the drama and angst and I loved it. If I had to complain about anything, it would be Sheridan's resistance at first, but it doesn't last long, so I didn't really have any complaints. I did find the ending a bit abrupt and I would have liked to get more of the story, but I know this is a series and we will see this couple in the next installment which I am super excited and curious to read!!! :D

Not my cuppa. It started great, and I chuckled several times, because it is funny. Truly funny, which is rare. And the babies are both adorable and credible. This author has talent. The plot: A Marine goes undercover as a nanny (manny) to keep his buddy's sister safe, and help her with the twin toddlers. When her ex-husband poses a threat, he's on it. Written in 3rd person POV, the perspective shifts naturally from the Hero to the Heroine. The book is primarily set in Hawaii (Kauia).

However, the sex felt poorly timed. It came on much too soon. Insufficient emotional / relational development. I didn't buy into Sheri coming onto Sam so suddenly and so strong. After knowing him for one day? Bam! She's pulling him into a full-on half-naked kiss in the hallway, and the next day dragging him into the shower with her. I am also not a fan of female masturbation scenes. Not interesting or sexy to me.

Sam and the babies. Loved them. I loved those scenes, like when Sam washed poopy Jeffrey in the koi pond and created baby clothes and a diaper from his Titans T-shirt, so it ended up saying "tits" because of the fold in the cloth.

Decent writing. I didn't notice any typos. Good dialogue. I wasn't assaulted by endless and repetitive internal dialogue, either. We got just the right amount of Sam's or Sheri's thoughts, regrets, guilt, etc. (yay for that!).

Too much careless religious profanity. Goes against my values. In intense situations, I can overlook it, but these girls used it cavalierly, randomly.

A promising author, but further plot and character development is warranted.

Bottom line: Not too bad. Just not my cuppa.

3.75 stars..

I am always excited to tuck into a Brazen publication, and Marine for Hire promised to contain all the faultless elements.

Marine Sam Kercher was approached by his old college pal, MacArthur, with a request to watch over his sister Sheridan Patton-Price. She had recently divorced from her cheating military husband, Lieutenant Limpdick, and Mac was concerned about the repercussions. She had twin 7 month old boys; Jeffrey & Jackson. Mac’s idea of Sam becoming their “manny”, who could cook and easily handle a M40 sniper rifle, with black-belt karate skills on the side, would help to protect Sheridan at this unsettled time.

There were conditions; Sheridan’s experience of controlling military men, her father and brothers, and then marrying a military man, meant that she wouldn’t accept his help knowing he was providing bodyguard services, and most definitely if she found out he was a marine. She was also out of bounds..therein lies a problem for Sam. He had remembered Sheri from when they were younger, when he had face-planted her cleavage..

Sheri’s acceptance of Sam’s services were immediate, as was her lustful attraction to him. Her good friend Kelli thought so too. The chemistry between Sheri and Sam was intense, and I enjoyed watching them battle and succumb to their allure. I liked the major characters, especially the cute twins.

This was an easy, agreeable, sunny read, and I look forward to catching up with Mac's story..

This was a very good story. I liked both Sheri and Sam and liked their story. This is the first story I've read by this author and based off this I'm likely to read more of her work in the future.

Sheri is a newly divorced woman and the mother of twin 7 month-old boys. Her Ex is a jerk who left her soon after she gave birth to the boys and took off to have fun with a stripper. Of course once the divorce is final, her Ex makes a pain out of himself trying to get Sheri to take him back and claiming she's not a good mom for not getting back with him and giving the boys both a mother and father. Never mind the fact that he doesn't bother to ask to see the boys. They had been living in Hawaii and she ended up staying for a new job, moving to a different Hawaiian island and a new house...now she just needs a nanny to help look after the boys.

Sam is a marine who's off on leave and considering whether or not he'll re-enlist for another tour of duty. Sam has been friends with Mac since they were in college and Sam owes Mac for saving his life in the past. The last thing Sam expects is for Mac to show up asking him to pose as a nanny for his sister to protect her from her Ex husband. Sam has 6 sisters that have many kids and he likes kids but that doesn't mean that he's a fit nanny. Mac tells him it's only needed for a couple weeks as the Ex will be shipped off to his next assignment soon. Sam agrees because he owes Mac but since Sheri has an issue with overbearing marines, Mac's insisting they lie about Sam's background and Sam isn't thrilled about the idea.

Mac takes Sam to Hawaii to meet up with Sheri and get him settled in. When they arrive, Sheri isn't sure about Sam but when the twins take to him, he manages to change a diaper and puts together a good dinner, she decides that she'll give him a chance as her manny (manny = male nanny). Sam actually remembers Sheri from college and he had a crush on her then (although she doesn't remember him). It's been years since then but Sam is surprised to realize that his attraction to Sheri has only grown with her more mature appearance. The attraction is mutual too as Sheri has a hard time not thinking dirty thoughts about Sam. Sam does his best to scout things out and make sure things are as safe as he can make them as he starts his position as Sheri's manny. Things go well between them but the attraction makes things very difficult as they both have trouble keeping their hands off each other. They don't exactly succeed in this though and each time they slip they both agree they shouldn't have done whatever they slipped and did and then try to act like it didn't happen. Sam would actually like to have something happen but there's 2 problems...1. Mac made his "hands off my sister" edict very clear and 2. he's having to lie to Sheri about him being a marine and not a nanny and he doesn't want to start something with her when he's lying to her.

While this is going on, Sheri has started her new job, which is going well. She's also receiving many calls and texts from her Ex trying to convince her to talk to him about reconciling. Sheri just keeps ignoring them because she has no interest in talking to him past letting him see the boys if he wants. He never actually asks to see them until he shows up late as night trying to talk to her and when she asks why he's there he uses the boys as an excuse (even thought the custody agreement says he has to give her 24 hours notice and he gave her none). Sam chases Sheri's Ex off but it seems evident he's not willing to let things go. The funny thing is, he left with insults about Sheri (which Sam punches him for) and the idiot it trying to get her back so why is he insulting her to her face!?!?! Yeah, he's a jerk and an idiot and it's not the last time he shows up. Things between Sam and Sheri escalate and Sam and Sheri decide to give up trying to stay apart and see where things between them can go. Sam's freaked though because he doesn't know how to tell Sheri the truth and have her still like him. As you may guess, Sheri finds out the truth in a bad way and doesn't take things well, throwing Sam out for his lies. The next day, a few things happen that help Sheri to see the big difference between her Ex and men like Sam (and that she can take care of herself in a bind). She realizes she was wrong about Sam and goes to find him. They reunited, admit their feelings for each other and then start planning their HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I really liked both Sheri and Sam and liked their story a lot. It was sexy and sweet and a good way to spend and afternoon. I'm planning to read the next book in the series when it comes out. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :)

This is the first book I’ve read by author Tawna Fenske and Marine for Hire was a good time. It’s listed at 245 pages but seemed like a shorter read. The entire story line takes place in less than a two week time span. Obviously, because of that, things develop quite quickly but I thought the pacing worked well for the type of story this was. There is a very tiny sliver of suspense at the end but Marine for Hire really focuses on Sam's role as the "manny" and the instantaneous attraction Sam and Sheri have.

There are a few things I really liked about the book and they all have to do with the humor. I didn't expect the book to be funny but it was!

I really enjoyed the friendship between Sheri and Kelli. Although Kelli doesn’t have a major role in the story line she did provide plenty of best friend support. Their conversations and teasing seemed very familiar and could have been pulled from the pages of some of my real life friends.

“I love you, Sher,” Kelli said, touching the back of her hand. “And I’ll gladly hold your hair back if you need to puke in a barroom toilet on girls’ night. But there’s no way I’m helping you wash diapers.”

Sheri laughed and swallowed the last of her tea. “I’ll keep that in mind,” she said as she set her mug down. “God, I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you, too,” Kelli said, squeezing her hand. “And I’m especially glad your douchebag ex is gone.” She frowned. “Was that too insensitive?”

“Please. I spent three years married to Captain Insensitive. At this point you could tell me to go fuck myself and I’d feel giddy someone’s talking dirty to me.”

Not only were Sheri and Kelli a lot of fun together but Sam had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. When Sam was trying to act like he knew how to put on a cloth diaper but kept getting the steps mixed up with disassembling a M16 rifle was really cute. Sam using his Titans shirt as a make shift diaper when there was a diaper emergency was hysterical.

“I’ve got this situation under control,” he added, giving the babies a reassuring smile. Jackson smiled back and farted. At least,Sam thought that’s all it was. Then he saw the telltale seepage leaking through the onesie and realized he’d made a terrible miscalculation.

“Oh, shit.”

Literally.

Jackson started laughing, but it quickly turned to howls of distress. Jeffrey joined in, wailing with an urgency that made the peacocks scatter.

Frantic, Sam patted himself down, looking for something to make the noise stop. “I forgot the diaper bag. Dammit.” He scanned the gardens, hoping to see some other parent strolling nearby with the necessary provisions.

There was no one.

Sam was on his own in this bizarre, foreign jungle with two comrades equally unprepared for this mission. He scooped up the baby, glancing around for a faucet or someplace he could clean the little guy.

Jackson howled louder.

“Don’t worry,” he panted. “I’ve got your back, buddy. Semper fi.”

The diaper crisis went on for a few pages and I was cracking up the whole time.

There were a few things I didn’t like…The entire storyline was pretty unbelievable and far-fetched. Everything from Sam being able to handle twins when he didn't have much experience with babies to Sheri not catching on to the blaring inconsistencies in Sam's story and experience. I wish that Sam would have confessed the truth about who he was and why he was there much sooner in the story. He had plenty of opportunities to come clean but he didn’t. Another problem I had was there was a lot of talk about how Sheri looked. It seemed to be a major focus and kind of was a turn off for me. She’s hot. Nice boobs. I got it. Let’s move on already... The talk of looks and her body got a little redundant and made me roll my eyes more than once, especially since she had just given birth to twins months earlier…

All of that aside, Marine for Hire was well written, had an average steam level for a Brazen title, and was a cute, fun read. Overall, I give this a solid 3.5 STARS but am rounding up to 4 STARS because of all the laughs. The story wasn't really believable but it was enjoyable

So. Things that'll make me go all girly swoony? Marines. Marines who like babies. Marines who like babies and sing to them. And adore their heroines just the way they are. *nods* Marine for Hire was totally working for me.

The gist: Sheri's husband had a randy pecker and he left her and their twin boys for a stripper. Yeah. He's an ass. And Sheri is in desperate need of a little help so her brother calls in his best friend Sam to be her Manny with express orders to keep his hands off Sam's sister. Yeaaaah.
At last, she settled into her seat, folded her napkin in her lap, and picked up her wineglass. They were seated at opposite ends of the table, their plates brimming with food, their minds brimming with lust.

Or maybe that's just me, she thought, taking a sip of wine.

Across the table, Sam lifted his glass.

"So," he began." Are you trying to drive me insane, or do you genuinely want me to throw you across this table and fuck you 'til neither of us can stand?"

~~

As Sam whacked Sheri on the back, trying to get her to stop choking on her wine, it occurred to him he needed to work on his communication skills.

"Sorry," he said, giving her one more solid thump as she blinked up at him through teary eyes. "I probably could have broached the subject better."

"You think?" she gasped.

"Just trying to get a handle on the elephant in the room." She coughed again and gave him an incredulous look.

"By shooting it with a grenade launcher instead of a tranquilizer dart?"

He grinned as he handed her back into her chair and returned to his seat a safe distance away. He shrugged and picked up his fork. "Why use a big gun when a bigger one will do?"

"I really don't think we should be talking about the size of your gun," she said, stabbing into her salad with more force than necessary.

::snort:: There was a good bit of humor in this one as Sam gets the lay of the land and Sheri adjusts to having a man living with her and accepting help for a change.

And Sam. Mmm. Yeah. He's good. I loved this guy. He's a little bit damaged and not entirely upfront about everything, might not always have the smoothest of manny skills but the man was just sexy as hell and a good man. There were some really hilarious scenes with him and the babies and just with his domestic role. A little kitchen fire here or there. You know how it goes ;)

Sheri was a nice heroine too. She felt real and so did her struggles with being a single mom and overwhelmed. She's got some doubts over being good enough but with Sam's help worked on it--I loved how he wanted her just as she was and let her know it in no uncertain terms that she was a wonderful mom. My only issue with Sheri was she was pretty slow on the uptake about some things Sam was hiding but other than that I really enjoyed her.

Sexy bits were indeed sexy and I loved that more often than not Sheri was the one who started things up. There were lots of non-sexy times as well that I enjoyed just as much. Trips to the beach, moments with the little boys, meals, and other every day things that really created a full picture and were fun to watch and be a part of.

All in all, Fenske put together a delightful military romance that had me smiling and going just a bit weak in the knees for one sexy Marine and the family he set out to take care of. There was a little bit of drama with the ex to throw in a little excitement as well. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series. The secondary characters definitely caught my attention. Especially her best friend who I was cheering on the entire time as she pushed Sheri to go for a little bit of adventure.

Get ready for some serious swooning. Sexy Marine who is amazing with kids? Would be rude not to.

Tawna Fenske is a new author to me and with that comes lots of lovely anticipation of what's in store. Having devoured this I can confidently say I will be reading more from her.

Taking the winning formula of a military man and a feisty lady, Marine for Hire is a sexy romance with a difference as our leading lady, Sheridan Patton-Price, is a Mum. Newly divorced with 7 month-old boys, she doubts herself, but she is one gutsy, funny and stubborn lady. With her ex lurking, her overbearing brother Mac intervenes. Enter our oh-so-sexy Marine slash newly hired 'nanny', Sam Kercher; calm, collected, protective, has an amazing way with words (and actions, ahem) and is a big softie with kids. What women in her right mind could resist all that...

description

With a storyline encompassing romance, fabulous humour, action, banter and sexual tension leading to some exceptionally hot horizontal (and vertical) activities, the sparks flew and I flitted between laughing and swooning. Whilst I would have liked a touch more action heading towards the end, it doesn't detract from a well-written book with a realistic loveable couple and a sexy, refreshing storyline.

Worth reading? Definitely and I look forward to Mac and Kelli's book.

Cute. Fun. Sweet.

Let’s meet Sam & Sheri, shall we …

Sheridon aka Sheri is a recently divorced single mother of 7 month old twins. She dumped her cheating, rigid ass, marine ex-husband when he was caught cheating with a stripper. She is brave. She is stubborn. She is self-deprecating. She’s not winning mother of the year. But most importantly … she is done with military men, or maybe all men - especially lying, cheating liars.

Sam is a marine who owes a lot to Sheri’s brother, Mac. But he is also infatuated with Sheri. He only met her once in college, but it was a lasting impression. He is brave. He is stubborn. He does not put up with self-depreciation. He is pretty sure that lying to Sheri about who (or what) he is, is the worst idea ever … but when Mac insists, what’s a guy to do? Pretend he is a nanny … um, I mean manny ...

These two are so adorable. So friggin’ funny. And 100% sweet & sexy. It was so easy to read about their burgeoning romance.
“Wait a minute. My brother told you not to sleep with me, didn’t he?”
“What?”
“Argh! That is so like him. Dammit, now I want to fuck you just to get him back.”

It was cheesy at times. A little over-the-top with the ridiculous situations they found themselves in. But I didn’t care. It was such an enjoyable read. The twin babies really added a little something extra to the fun. There was some tension & very, very light angst. But most of all, it made me laugh … a perfect light read.

Another Brazen book added to my pile ;)

Caffeinated Dates with Marine for Hire

First date: You just know when an overly protective brother tries to look out for his sister by providing her with a manny for her twins that things are going to get interesting. Sam Kercher is on leave after a mission went wrong, and his best friend calls in a favor. He needs Sam to pose as a Nanny to protect her sister and little ones. Sheri’s ex is on the island and big brother is concerned. Oh, I can just imagine all of the ways this can go wrong.

Second date: Operation Nanny is in full swing. I liked that Sam has prior memories of Sheri and has always had a thing for her. Sheri does not remember Sam but she’s not about to forget him a second time. The two are ogling each other behind each other’s back. You can just feel the sexual tension but Sam has been told, “Don’t touch my sister”, and Sheri cannot manhandle the nanny. Right? Mishaps, a little harassment from the ex and two cute little boys had me smiling and giggling.

Third date: We get hot showers, hilarious moments and a little va-va-voom. Yep, good times! Only Sheri has sworn off military men and hates liars. What is going to happen when she finds out the Manny is a Marine. While I fully expected an HEA, and mad professions of love before the story ended the ride was delightful. If you are looking for a light, fun read with a little sexy time sprinkled in you cannot go wrong dating, Marine for Hire. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Five stars, you ask? Really?

Yes, and worth each one. When you find an author who can make you laugh through a steamy book about a hunky Marine posing as a nanny, who can't cook and entertains a set of twins by demonstrating military tactics...five stars aren't actually enough.

I love reading a book that draws me in, puts me in the middle of the story and holds me there until the last page. I also enjoy being entertained. This book did it all for me. This one is definitely on my "will read again" list.

I was provided with an ARC from the publisher in return for an honest review.

Sheri is a newly divorced woman and the mother of twin 7 month-old boys. Her Ex is a jerk who left her soon after she gave birth to the boys and took off to have fun with a stripper. Of course once the divorce is final, her Ex becomes an ass trying to get Sheri to take him back. He claimed that she's not a good mom for not getting back with him and thought the boys needed a mother and father. Never mind the fact that he doesn't bother to ask to see the boys. They had been living in Hawaii and she ended up staying for a new job, moving to a different Hawaiian island and a new house now she just needs a nanny to help look after the boys.

When they arrive, Sheri isn't sure about Sam but when the twins take to him, he manages to change a diaper and puts together a good dinner, she decides that she'll give him a chance as her manny. Sam actually remembers Sheri from college and he had a crush on her. It's been years since then but Sam is surprised to realize that his attraction to Sheri has only grown. Sam would actually like to have something happen but he is lying to her and there are problems. Mac made it clear to him to keep his "hands off my sister" and the lie he is living not telling Sheri the truth.

Will the lies keep these two apart? Sheri just left a bad marriage with her ex and will the lies end up being to much for Sheri? There was some humor in this story it flowed really well and the story makes you want to swoon for Sam and Sheri the chemistry is there but the lies may destroy it all.

2.5 Stars. I just didn't believe this book - so many things were just unbelievable. Sheri not figuring out Sam was a marine was ridiculous. Sheri's continued "normal mother" dialogue drove me crazy and Sam falling back onto military training during his "manny" scenes just didn't feel real either. Not to mention those two 7 month old twins sleep longer and more soundly than any baby I have ever met/seen in my life! It was also pretty predictable.

If your big brother arrived on your doorstep with a big, beefy male nanny in tow to assist you with your twin 7 month olds as you prepare to return to work following your divorce, what would you do? Given Sheri doesn’t have a lot of choice and Sam seems capable she lets him stay against her better judgment given the way her hormones have started doing a conga line for the first time in a very long time.

Sam is having an equally hard time after promising his best friend, Mac, that he’d leave is little sister alone. Sexy, fun, maddening, and entertaining all describe Marine For Hire by author Tawna Fenske making it a book I couldn’t put down.

It’s hard not to love a couple who are bound and determined to stay away from each other but just can’t seem to keep their hands and lips off one another, but with both of them keeping secrets their lives become complicated very quickly. Sheri is one of those heroines that drove me a little bit nuts mainly because she kept comparing herself to other people and wasn’t confident about her abilities. I liked her, she was funny, sassy, and not afraid to after what she wanted but I would have loved her had she not been so self deprecating. Sam…Wow, I don’t even know where to begin. I hate that he was suffering from a mission gone wrong but I loved that he was willing to help Mac even though it went against his better judgment. His ability to jump in and take over especially with 7 month old twins was amazing. While I didn’t like he wasn’t honest with Sheri about who he was, he did that because Mac asked him to not reveal his military background to Sheri’s because of her issues with military men. Two people with chemistry to spare when put together for days on in leads to some smokin’ hot moments. I loved these two together both in and out of the bedroom. They just seemed to fit; they were able to move into a comfortable routine in a short amount of time, anticipating each other’s needs.

Marine For Hire is another excellent offering and with each book I read by author Tawna Fenske, I fall more in love with her easy style and her ability to write characters that jump off the page and into your heart.

Marine for Hire was such a fun read. I haven't read any books from Tawny Fenske, but being a big fan of Entangled Publishing's Brazen Books, I knew Marine for Hire was going to be good and it was!

Although I must admit, this book had a lot less heat and was a lot less steamier compared to the other Brazen Books that I've read. Therefore, I was a little surprised that this passed as a Brazen. I felt that this book would have been a better fit for Entangled's other line, Indulgence. Anyhow, what I really enjoyed about this book was the storyline and its overall light tone. It was just a fun, easy and light hearted read.

To me, Marine for Hire could easily fall under Romantic Comedy because it had numerous humorous moments in the book that got some laughs out of me. The characters were all likeable and I especially liked that the hero and heroine, Sam and Sheri, didn't play the "hard-to-get" card. They both wanted each other and they went for it instead of playing mind games with one another (which is one thing I do not tolerate much in my romance). Sam and Sheri also had enough chemistry going that kept me interested and I was their cheerleader throughout the story.

The secondary characters were also wonderful. The seven months old twins, Kelli and Mac were a nice supporting cast. Kelli also sounded like a wonderful friend to Sheri and with that said I do hope Kelli will get her own story and hopefully her leading man will be Mac (Sheri's brother)! Now that's a story I will for sure be looking forward to.

In the end, Marine for Hire is another winner from Brazen Books. For a light hearted and fun read with a pinch of sexy, Marine for Hire is your go-to book.

Sam is hired by Sheri's brother to protect her from her psycho ex-husband. Sheri comes from a gung-ho Marines family, and her brother and Mac are Marines together. However, Sam is introduced to Sheri as a manny (male nanny) who will take care of her twin boys and house, and boy, what a hunk of a manny he is!

This book is set in Hawaii - very cool! And Sam and Sheri have one hot case of lust for each other from the start. Even with the dishonesty of who and what he is, I enjoyed the honesty between Sam and Sheri - there wasn't a lot of beating around the bush with them - they got to it right away and continued on throughout the book.

Thumbs up for this one - and I'm looking forward to the next one in this series when Sheri's brother gets his comeuppance.

Okay, fair warning, you cannot read this book anywhere that necessitates quiet and decorum. There's too much out loud, snort-worthy laugh inducing material in here. I love this series so much and I can't wait for the third one to drop in December.

Fun book. Sheri is a newly divorced mother of twin boys. Her ex, tagged Lieutenant Limpdick by her overprotective older brothers, has been harassing her, wanting them to get back together. Since he left her for a stripper while she was recovering from having the twins, she's not interested. As a matter of fact, she's sworn of men for a while, especially military men. In her opinion they are overbearing, controlling, and all too ready to lie to her. All she wants to do is start her new job and take care of her boys. She needs a nanny, and her oldest brother, Mac, offers to find her one.

Sam is a Marine, on leave after a mission gone wrong, and feeling guilty about what happened. When his best friend Mac calls on him for a favor, he's willing to help. Especially since it's Sheri, who he has been crushing on since he was a geeky college kid. Mac just has two requirements: Sheri can't know that Sam is a Marine, and he has to keep his hands of her. He's pretty confident he can handle the kids, but resisting her advances is a whole other problem.

This was so much fun to read. Sam actually does quite well as a nanny. It was laugh out loud time to witness his first diaper changing scene, as his mind kept wandering from diapering to cleaning his rifle, but he pulled it off quite well. There's another hilarious scene as he has to deal with a dirty diaper, no diaper bag, and no one around to help. He is certainly creative. I loved seeing how well he bonded with the two babies.

I loved seeing the relationship develop between Sam and Sheri. The chemistry between them is off the charts, but Mac's threats are always there in the back of Sam's mind. Sheri keeps reminding herself that he works for her. But the pull is too strong, and Sheri makes her move. It was great fun to see her kill his self-control. I loved that they were honest about the attraction and the feelings between them, with no silly push and pull games. There's a fun scene when Sheri realizes that her brother has threatened Sam over not touching her. But it wasn't just a physical relationship. They connect over a lot of things, but especially the care of the two boys. There are some terrific "family type" moments that show how much they really belong together. I really loved seeing the way that Sam helps build up Sheri's confidence as a mother. She's always going on about how much better "normal" moms are at everything. I loved seeing how they fell for each other, but Sam fears what will happen when she finds out the truth. I have to say that I thought Sheri was a bit oblivious about it all. There were certainly enough "oops" moments that should have given it away. She is understandably hurt and angry when it does come out. I liked the ending, as a heart-to-heart with her best friend opens her eyes to what is really important.

I enjoyed the part of the story dealing with Sam protecting Sheri from her ex. Jonathan was definitely a creep and I loved the nickname Mac gave him. He did not take Sheri's divorcing him well, and seemed oblivious to the fact that he was completely in the wrong. It was especially great to see him compare so badly with Sam. Though I loved that Sam was there to protect her and the boys, it was great to see Sheri handle the final confrontation the way she did. She was much stronger than she suspected when her mama bear instincts were riled.

I liked Sheri's friend Kelli, who was a terrific support for her. She was there to help with the kids, give moral support, and even the occasional "don't be an idiot" talk. I loved her comments about Mac. As for him, he has the overprotective brother thing down pat. He loves his sister, and he'll do what he has to whether she likes it or not. I suspect that he's got some woman trouble ahead for himself, and I can't wait to read it.
