⭐️ 3.5 stars ⭐️ A sci-fi story including space travel, telepathic abilities, intrigue, deception, and war. Would recommend for sci-fi readers who are looking for a quick story that will keep their attention even if it doesn’t change their lives.
This storyline was intriguing and kept my attention. Even as, at best, a casual sci-fi reader, I enjoyed reading this book. However, I found the pacing to be inconsistent. Part I was great. It quickly pulled me in, wanting to know about the mystery of Akari, to know why the captain reacted how she did, and to see if Eli would deepen his friendship with Akari. Part II, however, felt rushed. I often found myself wanting “more.” More deeper explanation, more detailed descriptions, more clarification. I would have liked to have seen more details about the motivations for the character relationships forming during the time at Gros Morne. But mostly, I felt the singular chapter (2.2.1) between Gros Morne and arriving at the final destination was incredibly underdeveloped. That singular chapter could have been an entire section of the book. However the remainder of the book was very well written and I felt that the pacing was again where it should be.
One thing that I love most about the stories I read are the characters. I personally struggled with relating to these characters. Not that they were badly written, but I did wish for a bit more insight into each of them. However, I do wonder if this was an intentional choice by the author, allowing us only to know the main character in order to best understand his experience. Overall I found most of the characters to have little redeeming value by the end of the book. But again, redemption was not likely to be an intended theme.
The writing style was a underwhelming at times, with abrupt transitions and simplistic prose. However it was not distracting from my enjoyment of the story. Additionally, I read this as an advanced reader, so there were quite a few typographical errors. I assume this was corrected in the final published version.

It was a very interesting read. The main character was written well and the book did great in showcasing the journey he went through to reach the state he is at the end of the book.
The first half of the book holds well in terms of pacing, characters and everything. The third half of the book (II - Part 1) was where i was lowkey not as interested and the part where he gets together with Zan felt a bit jarring and sudden. It felt rushed and could have been more well developed with better character interactions and build up. That was my only major issue with the book, everything else worked out well.
The last part of the book was great and i like how the protagonist reaches the conclusion of his journey (mental and overall), it was everything i wanted in the ending. I dont regret reading this book. It was an enjoyable read and i would rate it 3 stars.

3.5-3.75 stars Interesting story involving a young man with no memory, people with various levels of psychic abilities, a few lost souls, and a bit of vengeance thrown in as well. Pacing and descriptions were good, and nothing was ridiculous. There were quite a few editing errors that will hopefully be fixed in the next edition, otherwise the story flowed nicely. Personally speaking, I very much enjoyed this book and would have been interested in it being a series given the level of world-building and character-building that occurred.
I would definitely read more by J. Warren in the future.
