Disciple of the Devas is a story about a brave girl named Priya Star. She is learning from a wise teacher, Arup, but soon she must go on a big journey to stop a dangerous god named Lord Setana from destroying the land of the gods, Rupa.

What I liked:

🛕 Cool fantasy world – The story takes place in three lands: Arup (Earth), Rupa (Heaven), and Naraka (Underworld). This idea was interesting and made the story feel big and magical.
🛕 Funny and helpful animal friends – Priya travels with a giraffe named Handsome, a fox named PaPa, and a wise owl named Guru Gildron.
🛕 Mix of English and Sanskrit – The story uses some Sanskrit words. At first, it was a bit new, but it made the world feel real and special.
🛕 Deep ideas – The story is not just action. It also talks about belief, change, and doing the right thing. Priya grows a lot during her journey.

The story moves slowly at first, but it’s worth it. By the end, it’s exciting and full of meaning.

Final Verdict:
It was a fun, thoughtful story full of Gods, magic, and brave choices. Great for teens and adults who like fantasies with a message.

This book is a mythological and fantasy adventure story that takes readers to three worlds – the world of gods, the underworld and the human world.

The story centers on Priya Star, a young girl chosen by the gods to find a magical staff called the Peeraboo of Destiny and stop the evil god Setana from disrupting the balance between the worlds.

This book is full of fantasy, adventure, and spiritual themes.

The story is lively, and the animal companions—a zebra, a wolf, and an owl—make the tale heartwarming and entertaining.

The story starts a bit slow, but later becomes exciting.

It is a beautifully written fantasy story based on courage, faith, and friendship.

The language is simple, making it suitable for beginning readers.

The cover page is attractive, and the title of the book is also intriguing.

Shailendra Roy’s The Disciple of the Devas invites readers into a fantastical tri-realm adventure where divine politics, underworld threats, and human courage collide. This novel charts Priya Star’s heroic journey across the different realms creating an epic quest brimming with cosmic stakes and magical revelations. Roy perfectly blends spirituality, symbolism, and fast-paced action, weaving a tapestry that’s both emotionally resonant and relentlessly adventurous. He balances immersive world-building and symbolic companions with a quest that quickly escalates into an enthralling cosmic showdown.

It follows the journey of Priya Star, a devout disciple of the deity Arup, who is chosen to confront a rising threat when the malevolent Lord Setana escapes his exile from Naraka (the underworld) and seeks a powerful gemstone. Determined to prevent him from collapsing the boundaries between the realms of gods (Rupa), demons (Naraka), and humans (Earth), Priya is tasked with retrieving the legendary Peeraboo of Destiny, a divine staff central to cosmic balance. Accompanied by a trio of magical animal allies—Handsome the zebra, PaPa the wolf, and Guru Gildron the wise shaman owl—she embarks on a perilous odyssey across enchanted landscapes. Along the way, Priya is tested physically, spiritually, and morally as she confronts dark forces, navigates divine politics, and grows into her role as a protector of the cosmos.

Roy’s prose is dynamic and action-oriented, favoring sharp, concise sentences that move the narrative swiftly—reminiscent of contemporary Indian mytho-fantasy. The novel begins with a cautious, slower build-up—establishing the cosmic stakes and introducing Priya. However, once Priya and her companions embark on their quest, the narrative accelerates significantly. This brisk pacing keeps the story engaging but may feel somewhat sparse to those preferring more descriptive or atmospheric writing. It's a deliberate, lean style that prioritizes momentum over lyrical immersion.

The novel excels at crafting an expansive and layered mythological universe. Spanning three realms—Rupa (divine), Naraka (underworld), and Earth—the narrative introduces divine hierarchies, spiritual politics, relics like the Peeraboo of Destiny, and realms teeming with cosmic stakes. The magical systems feel coherent and culturally rooted, evoking traditional myth while bringing fresh fantasy elements.
Priya Star emerges as a well-rounded and compelling heroine: bold, motivated, yet still discovering herself amid escalating challenges. The trio of animal allies—Handsome the zebra, PaPa the wolf, and Guru Gildron the owl—adds refreshing depth to the narrative.

In conclusion it is a mythological-fantasy romp that grows into its own—punctuated by engaging world-building, a compelling women hero, delightful animal allies, and mounting adventure. In this mythic adventure, the boundary between light and darkness converges on Priya’s courage, faith, and resolve, as she fights not just for realms, but for the fundamental balance of the cosmos. Readers seeking an immersive and spiritually tinged adventure are likely to find much to enjoy—especially once the quest fully unfolds.

As realms fall into chaos, one girl carries the weight of the cosmos.
In this fast-paced mythic fantasy, the fate of the divine realm hangs by a thread—and only Priya Star can save it.
A devoted disciple of sage Arup, Priya is sent on a perilous quest to stop Lord Setana, a vengeful sorcerer who’s escaped the underworld. Her only hope lies in finding the Peeraboo of Destiny—a legendary staff said to open the path to the gods.
She’s not alone. Alongside her are:
Handsome, a mischievous zebra
PaPa, a brave and loyal wolf
Guru Gildron, an all-knowing owl
Together, they cross cosmic landscapes, crack ancient riddles, and battle forces of darkness—while Priya discovers her own hidden power.
Blending Indian mythology, spirituality, and heart-pounding adventure, Roy delivers a story that’s as meaningful as it is magical.
Short, sharp, and unforgettable—this is more than a fantasy. It’s a soul-stirring journey through light, darkness, and everything in between.

The story revolves around three realms:
1) Rupa- The residence of the Divine Bhagwans-Gods
2) Naraka- The underworld, The land of hellish beasts and unholy souls
3) Arup- The realm of men and animals

This seems quite similar to Hindu mythology where the three realms are : 1) Heaven(Swarga) 2) Hell(Naraka or Pataal lok) 3) Earth(Bhulok)

Here , Lord Setana the king of Naraka start to overtake on all realms by using kaala voodoo and due to such oppression all God and Goddesses united together and bind his physical presence with the help of Heart of Sun.
Priya, a fox who is nabee but she was unaware of this live her life along with her family very happily .
Soon she lost one of her friend and wants to take vengeance but his father Wild used to guide him and also tells a lot of tale regarding all 3 realms .
One day she find a zebra and wanted to make her brother and she named him Handsome and there onward story starts to unfold and she lost her family having no clue where all of them has gone and met with an owl who was shaman named Gildron became the Guru for her and she met with Prithvi devi, elephant bhagwan ,they told her who she really is why she was born and her unique birthmark holds a great meaning to it. She on the journey of learning and unfolding her true strength met a wolf named PaPa and a mammoth named Motee .They all walked together in the journey of finding Destiny of Peerabo and destroying Lord Setana before he rises again.

The book cover depicts and captured very beautifully what the title says they are the Disciples of the Devas and Priya is the Princess Priya Star , a chosen one to make balance between all realms .

What touched my heart is : The Bravery Priya showcases and most importantly she always care for her friends and family and after losing her family she has friends who was like family to her.
What I will wait for is its 2nd part where we will anticipate in the fight between nabee and Lord Setana.

Let's gather around, and listen to a tale as old as the stars themselves, found within the pages of this amazing book "Disciple of the Devas."

This book tells a wonderful story, much like the old tales of gods and demons we used to hear. Imagine a world with three parts: one where the kind and powerful gods live, another dark and scary place like a deep pit where a bad fellow named Lord Setana was locked away, and our own world where people and animals live together.

For a long time, these three worlds lived peacefully side-by-side. But then, this Lord Setana, a very strong and mean sorcerer, got angry. He wanted to break free from his prison in that dark place and cause trouble in the land of the gods. He was looking for a special shiny stone that could tear down the walls between all the worlds.

When Lord Setana started sending his evil creatures to the gods' land, everything became chaotic and frightening. The gods needed help, and they found it in a brave young woman named Priya Star from our world. She was a devoted follower of a wise person named Arup.

Priya had to go on a very dangerous journey to save the gods' world. Along the way, she had some loyal friends: a zebra named Handsome, a wolf named PaPa, and a wise old owl named Guru Gildron. These companions helped her face many difficulties.

This story is full of adventure, where it's hard to tell who is good and who is bad at times. Priya had to be strong, keep her faith, and be very brave. She was determined to stop Lord Setana's revenge and fulfill her important task. It's a story about fighting evil with courage and the help of good friends. It feels like you are right there with Priya, traveling to the land of the gods.A truly captivating read for those who cherish stories of courage and the enduring struggle against darkness. It's a story that keeps you wanting to know what happens next.

Disciple of Devas by Shalendra Roy is an intriguing spiritual fiction that seamlessly blends mythology, mysticism, and self-discovery. From the very moment she appears, Priya Star doesn’t just enter the story — she lights it up. She is introduced not just through description, but through energy — “her caramel skin glowing in the warm sunlight,” “a cheerful young girl,” and that crescent moon and star birthmark that already hints at her deeper mystical role.

Lord Setana is the primary antagonist in Disciple of Devas, described as a powerful Voodoo Maalik who was banished and imprisoned in the hellish realm of Naraka. Fueled by rage and a burning desire for freedom, he commands demonic forces and invades the realm of the Gods, Rupa, in search of a rare gemstone capable of breaching barriers between worlds .
His actions cause widespread chaos and threaten the cosmic balance, which prompts the Gods to send Priya Star, the Disciple of Arup, on a mission to stop him .

The earth devi, Prithvi sent a guru to guide her through her extraordinary journey. The line — “Let’s play hide and seek” — might seem playful, even ordinary. But in the context of this poetic and mysterious setting, it reflects something more profound: the beginning of a game of discovery, not just of the forest, but of self, secrets, and spirit.

The author has blended fantasy with spirituality. Her family included Lily and Wild and the fox pets Tula and Giga, add a sense like seekers or guardians. The twins, Tune and Mune, bring an almost mythical duality.

Disciple of Devas doesn’t just seem like a story. It reads like a walk through a sacred forest, where characters shimmer with symbolism and the air hums with meaning.

Disciple of Devas is not just a book—it’s a journey of stillness and soul-searching. Highly recommended for readers drawn to spiritual fiction and Indian mythology.

This book feels like stepping into a magical universe where every page is alive with danger, courage, and wonder. The story of Priya Star, chosen by the Gods to save their realm, is not just about fighting demons but about discovering the strength that lies within.

What makes the book so charming is the team around Priya—Handsome the zebra, PaPa the wolf, and Guru Gildron the owl. They aren’t just companions; they feel like friends guiding you through the journey. The bond they share gives the story both humor and heart.

The quest for the Peeraboo of Destiny has enough twists, challenges, and emotional moments to keep readers hooked. The action is fast-paced, but beneath the battles lies a powerful message: courage is not about being fearless, it is about stepping forward even when you’re afraid.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy with heart. It’s exciting, magical, and inspiring all at once. A perfect read for both young readers and adults who enjoy timeless adventures.

"Disciple of the Devas" is an engaging fantasy centred around the age-old conflict between good and evil. The book weaves an incredible tale of magic and adventure set in the various realms of humans, demons, and God.

Disciple of the Devas takes readers on a journey through three interconnected realms—the divine lands of the gods, the mortal world, and a shadowy underworld. In this richly imagined fantasy, Shalendra Roy blends adventure and emotion to explore enduring themes of courage, perseverance, and the ceaseless struggle between light and darkness.

At the heart of the story is Priya Star, a brave young disciple destined to face the merciless Lord Setana. As the fragile balance between realms begins to unravel, Priya undertakes a dangerous quest. Guided by her unwavering faith and the loyalty of her animal companions, she endures challenges that test her spirit and transform her along the way.

Roy’s storytelling stands out for its fluid pacing, vivid imagery, and emotional depth. The characters feel genuine, their relationships adding warmth and humanity to a world filled with magic and peril. The bond between Priya and her allies, in particular, provides moments of tenderness that balance the high-stakes action.

The novel’s world-building is another highlight. From the haunting shadows of the underworld to the radiant beauty of the divine realms, each setting is painted with striking detail. The precarious harmony between these worlds—and the threat of one disrupting the others—adds urgency and richness to the narrative.

More than a classic tale of good versus evil, Disciple of the Devas is a story of faith, friendship, and the resilience to rise against overwhelming odds. It’s a captivating read for fantasy enthusiasts who seek both exhilarating adventure and heartfelt meaning.

Hold on to your imagination—because Disciple of the Devas is an electrifying dive into mythology, magic, and mayhem!

From the very first page, I was pulled into a world where ancient gods, voodoo warlords, and enchanted creatures collide. The premise? A banished Voodoo Maalik hell-bent on revenge, a celestial realm under siege, and one fierce disciple who may be their only hope.

Enter Priya Star—a brave, determined warrior on a divine mission to retrieve the Peeraboo of Destiny and restore balance to the realms. Her journey is both thrilling and heartwarming, made even more magical by her unforgettable companions: Handsome the zebra (yes, he lives up to the name), PaPa the ever-faithful wolf, and Guru Gildron the sagely owl who might just be my new favourite fictional mentor.

What I loved:
🔮 The rich blend of fantasy and mythology
🌌 Vivid world-building that brings the realms to life
🦓 A cast of characters that are quirky, wise, and full of heart
🔥 High-stakes action with emotional depth and spiritual undertones

This isn’t just a battle of good vs evil—it’s a story about courage, purpose, and the blurry lines between light and darkness. If you’re a fan of epic quests, talking animals (with attitude), and female leads who fight with both weapons and soul, this one’s for you.

📚✨ Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson, Avatar: The Last Airbender, or Indian fantasy mythopoeia with a modern twist.

Would I read a sequel? In a heartbeat.
Would I want a Handsome of my own? Don’t even ask.

Disciple of the Devas by Shalendra Roy mythological fiction with fantasy elements.
The story starts with the fact that the lords (bhagvans) are fighting with bad evils as they are trying to seize the Rupa world(the world of lords). So there are three worlds named Rupa(World of bhagavans), Arup(world of humans and animals), and Naraka(world of hellish beasts and unholy souls)
The divine lord told all the devis and gods that he is going to close the doorway of all three realms so that no bad evils can enter again, and
there will be a nabee who will find peeraboo of destiny to save us from these. Till then, the doorways must be closed.
The chosen Nabee is a young girl whose name is Priya Star. She lives in Arup world with her parents and one day Prithvi Devi appears in front of them and reveals that Priya Star is nabee and she has to save our divine lords from bad evils. Firstly Priya asked devi that she's so young how can she fight with bad evils, Devi replied that your Guru ji will teach you everything bacha. Her parents left her without telling and since then guruji teaches her about all needed mantras. Then she found 2 friends one is handsome(Zebra)and other one is PaPa(wolf).
As she didn't knew how to use the powers and mantras but while every fight she learns her new lesson. Sometimes she made mistakes too but in the end she saved animals from beasts.
I appreciate the author's writing style, which is accessible and relatable, making it easy to follow the story. To find out if Priya ever reached the peeraboo of destiny I encourage you to read the book.

In "Disciple of the Devas," Shalendra Roy brings to life a world in which destiny is determined not by swords, but by the soul. At the center of this magical tale is Priya Star, who transitions from disciple and dreamer to a force of divine power. Her quest to regain the Peeraboo of Destiny and balance in the kingdom of Rupa interweaves the world of myth and memory, passion and faith. With her are a zebra, a wolf, and a shamanic owl, each representing aspects beyond their surface level appearance.

Roy's writing is more than fantasy; it is "a tapestry of allegory woven with stardust and symbols." He writes lyrically between poetry and a sense of urgency, borrowing significantly from Indian mythology to compose a radiant epic of self-discovery.

What struck me the most was the beautiful integration of deeper ideas with wonderfully real emotions. Priya's story is not simply one of heroism; it is the human experience. Her conflicts, her spunk, and her lovely surprise elegance make their mark. The trinity of symbolic creatures symbolizes the inner trinity of instinct, fidelity, and vision in her.

If I were to criticize it some of the developments in the story might seem very familiar to fantasy novel enthusiasts. However, Roy's personal approach adds a "newly sacred" perspective to the story.

For those who seek magic infused with metaphor and power coupled with vulnerability, this pilgrimage is one to take.

My Rating: I'd rate this book 4.5/5.

Review: The Disciple of the Devas by Shalendra Roy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (3.5 stars)

The Disciple of the Devas is a pacy, mythic adventure packed with divine quests and charming companions. When I opened it, I was hit with an intriguing premise: Priya Star, sent by the gods, must venture across realms with her beloved zebra, wolf, and owl to retrieve a powerful staff and save the world

The action is nonstop, and the animal companions—Handsome the zebra, Papa the wolf, and Guru Gildron the shaman owl—offer both humor and heart. Their eccentric dialogues occasionally wander into gimmicky territory, especially with the constant animal noises woven into their speech, which, for me, pulled me out of the immersive myth.

Still, the world-building is vivid and engaging, and the central adventure kept me reading—right until I had to stop. I appreciated how accessible the writing was, perfect for fans of mythic fiction and readers seeking something light yet exciting. You don't need deep lore knowledge to enjoy this standalone story.

If you're drawn to divine missions, talking animal sidekicks, and realms on the verge of chaos, this book delivers. It’s not flawless—some elements feel more playful than polished—but its charm and momentum make it a fun, breezy read. I’d give it a solid 3.5 stars. Could shine even brighter with a few tweaks, but overall, a worthwhile jump into a new, imaginative world.

Its been a while since I have gotten back to true Indian Fantasy with mythological elements, as some of you know Fantasy has been the genre of the year for me, as the world envelops me into the scope, I let loose my thethers to real life, even letting go of things which just seem to be dragging me down, absorbing lessons in the reading growth arcs of characters from start to finish.

Well, this book is on the premise of a fictional world where Gods lokas are in the process of getting captured yet again by Lord Setana, who was sent to the underworld albeit temporarily. To solve the crisis, a nabee by the name of Priya Star is brought into play. The story covers her roller coaster of a journey with a plethora of animals in the mix, especially Handsome, a zebra and PaPa, a wolf.

Apart from the story, I think this book is especially made for kids, as each animal character's tone is intonated with their sounds, making it quite a sensorial yet vivid reading experience, kudos to the author for really bringing the story to life. The book also imparts many lessons of nature and humanity that made it quite a wholesome book to read.

For me, though, especially as a mature reader, some parts did jerk me a bit, but when you look at the complete plot, it makes sense. I was surprised with the way it ended, as there seems to be part two coming, which I am looking forward to as I am curious about the arc coming to a close.

Reading Disciples of the Devas felt like stepping into a living, breathing world. I wasn’t just reading about Priya Star; I was sharing the campfire warmth, hearing the rustle of trees that talk back, and feeling the heartbreak when she loses those dear to her. What I liked most is that this story isn’t just about magic or mythical creatures; it’s also about loss, resilience, and the small choices that make someone a hero.

Priya’s bond with her family and her animal companions felt very real to me. I’ve never met a fox or a talking zebra in real life, but the way the author wrote them made them feel like old friends. Even when danger struck, whether it was the sabretooth, the rabid grizzly, or the mysterious forces of the underworld, there was always a layer of warmth and loyalty beneath the tension.

I also loved how nature wasn’t just a background here; it was alive, with trees, rivers, and mountains having their own voices and personalities. It reminded me of how we often forget the living presence of the world around us.

The emotional highs and lows were balanced perfectly, moments of joy, sudden heartbreak, and then those calm, reflective scenes that give you space to breathe. I finished the book with a strange mix of sadness that the journey was over and excitement, wondering where Priya’s path would lead next. If you love fantasy with heart, you’ll find something special here.

The Disciple of the Deva is a fascinating read that delves into the world of celestial and divine beings. The story follows Priya Star, a devoted disciple of Arup, as she embarks on a perilous quest to save the realm of the gods from the wrath of Lord Setana. Driven by vengeance, Lord Setana is determined to bring ruin upon the deities, and Priya must locate a mystical key that unlocks the gateway to the Land of Lords.

Will she succeed in her mission? What challenges await her? These questions fuel a gripping narrative filled with thrilling twists and relentless adventure.

The fast-paced storytelling paints vivid scenes, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The plot is not only engaging but also stands out for its originality. Themes of courage, faith, divinity, and vengeance are woven seamlessly into the narrative, taking readers on an exhilarating journey across realms.

The unknown is the true adventure of our lives, so take a leap of faith and enjoy the ride.'

'Disciple of the Devas' by Shalendra Roy is an adventurous tale, which has the potential to transport its readers to different worlds- the world of the divine beings, the world of the humans, and the world of the Naraka.

The book begins with an introduction to Lord Setana, a strong Voodoo Maalik, who was imprisoned in Naraka. It was a long time ago. But as he wanted to free himself from the demonic world, chaos was spread throughout the worlds. Enter Priya Star- a fearless disciple of Arup. She faces countless challenges to save the world of Gods. She faces them with courage and determination, with her loyal companions.

If you enjoyed the mythological tales of goddess Durga in your childhood, you will definitely like reading this one. This book is filled with magic and realism. This book offers the strong message of going forward with determination and courage. Priya Star faces challenges, but keeps going no matter what, hurdling the problems she faces on her way, often getting confused, but most importantly never giving up.

The chapters are small and easy to read. The face was a bit slow in the beginning of the book, it took me some time to get into the book. I liked the world building. If you're someone who enjoys fantasy and adventurous reads, you must go for this one.

My Review:

Three realms - Rupa, Arup, Naraka - no longer coexists in harmony. The Protagonist Priya Star, a nabee, the disciple, the chosen one is called upon by the Gods on a quest to save their realm from the powerful voodoo maalik Lord Satana. She is gifted with the power to talk to animals and trees, as she embarks on a journey to fulfill her destiny, with others to her aid.
She is accompanied by her companions, a zebra Handsome, a wolf PaPa and an owl guru Gildron.

"This journey will test your love, compassion, and courage"

In this book we travel with her, the Land of Arup, through the hurdles she stumbles upon caused by the mystical creatures controlled by the forces of evil. Priya's character is very well written - brave and caring. The World building was great.
Disciple Of The Devas is a modern take on "Good vs Evil"

It took time to get introduced to the world, it started a bit slow but in no time it picks up the pace. This would be the 1st ever book i completed in a day, as such was its essence.
And I wasn't expecting it to end just like that.

This book 'Disciple of the Devas' is an unexpected read for me this year.
Waiting for the next book!

Disciple of the Devas by Shalendra Roy is a magical and exciting story. It is about a teenage girl named Priya Star who is chosen by the gods to save the world. A bad lord named Setana wants to destroy the balance between three worlds—Rupa (home of gods), Arup (earth), and Naraka (underworld). To stop him, Priya has to find a powerful staff called the Peeraboo of Destiny.

Priya is not alone. She travels with three talking animals: Handsome the funny zebra, PaPa the kind wolf, and Guru Gildron the wise owl. They guide and protect her on her journey.

The story has magic, action, talking animals, and deep messages. It teaches us about love, courage, friendship, and finding strength inside ourselves. I liked how the book uses ideas from Indian mythology and some Sanskrit words. It made the story feel new and special.

Some parts of the book were a little slow, and the ending came quickly. But the middle of the story was very fun and full of adventure. I really liked how Priya grew stronger and more confident.

This book is good for kids, teens, or even adults who love fantasy stories. If you enjoy reading about magical quests, gods, and brave heroes, you will like this book.

In the end, it’s not just a story about saving the world—it’s also about finding your true self.

Disciple of the Devas by Shalendra Roy is an astounding read about the fabulous realm of celestial beings. The story revolves around Priya Star, a brave acolyte of Arup, who embarks on a dangerous quest to save their realm. There lived a powerful Voodoo Maalik—Lord Setana— who was banished and imprisoned in Naraka, a hellish realm. He unleashes his forces upon the realm of the Gods, Rupa, plunging it into chaos in search of a rare gemstone capable of shattering the boundaries between worlds.

The author takes us on an epic adventure, where the line between light and darkness blurs. The story is intriguing with a fast-paced plot. The author's flawless writing style makes everything vivid. The twists and turns make it an unputdownable read. The world-building is excellent. I loved Priya's spirited companions, a beloved zebra named Handsome, a loyal wolf named PaPa, and a wise shaman owl named Guru Gildron. Strength, resolve, faith, courage, vengeance and divine purpose everything has my heart. While reading, I felt like I was traveling with Priya to the land of the Gods.

Overall, I loved this book and would strongly recommend it to all.

Disciple of the Devas by Shalendra Roy is about Priya Star, a courageous teen who was born with a unique birth mark and was regarded as the chosen one. She is tasked with saving a realm on the brink of destruction with a demonic lord, named Setana, threatening to shatter the boundaries between worlds, Priya’s mission is anything but simple. Joined by a talking zebra named Handsome, a loyal wolf, and a wise owl shaman, she must track down the Peeraboo of Destiny—a mystical key that could change everything.

I didn’t expect such a vivid blend of mythology, fantasy creatures, and cosmic stakes — but it works surprisingly well. The book throws you into a richly imagined world full of divine lore and chaotic threats, and while some parts do feel a little fast-paced or information-heavy, the sheer creativity behind it kept me invested.

What really stood out was Priya’s journey. She’s thrown into danger and self-discovery, and even with the talking animals and divine staff, her challenges felt real. The ending was unsatisfactory and done a bit abruptly. It’s not perfect but it was a fun read.

Disciple of Devas by Shailendra Roy ★★½

Priya Star, disciple of Arup, walks the thin line between courage and doubt as she embarks on a mission to save the three realms from the dark threat of Setana. Along the way, she’s joined by a wolf-like elephant, a zebra, and other mystical companions—each with their own losses, yet bound together by the “found family” they create.

It’s clear that the author has poured a lot of research and imagination into building this world. The landscapes are magical, the creatures are vivid, and the adventure is designed to give readers a sense of both wonder and danger.

That said, while I do enjoy mystical fantasy, the writing style and pacing didn’t fully pull me in. I feel it may resonate more with younger fantasy readers—perhaps in the 15–19 age range—who connect with a “vibe-driven” and adventure-heavy narrative. For me, the emotional impact was quieter than I hoped, even though the final act does tie together the themes of loss, loyalty, and courage.

Verdict: Appreciated the depth of world-building and research, but overall, it wasn’t my vibe. A one-time read for me, though I can see others enjoying it more.

The book is written in simple language and the world the author creates for is a interesting new world that has magical creatures and a world that's made from the author's own imagination which is a delight to read as the characters have new names and powers.

This is a good early start for pre-teens who would be interested to read fantasy by an Indian author.

'Disciple of the Devas' is an engaging fantasy centred around the age old conflict between Good and Evil. Set in the different realms of God, Demons and Humans, the book weaves an incredible story full of adventure and magic.

The story revolves around a celestial conflict between Gods and a powerful demon, Voodoo Maalik—Lord Setana— who was imprisoned in the underworld- Naraka- for using the forbidden book or Kaalaa Voodoo to capture the underworld.
As a vengeance, Setana unleashed three demonic discipleshis upon the realm of the Gods, Rupa, plunging it into chaos. To fight this evil, Devas
called upon Priya Star, a valiant follower of Arup (the realm of men and animals) to save Rupa. With the Gods’ world teetering on the brink of destruction, they summon Priya Star, a courageous disciple of Arup, to embark on a dangerous quest to save their realm. Will Priya succeed in her mission?

The story is an epic adventure, set in a whole new world, full of magic and thrill. After a brief introduction, the story unfolds in a fast paced plot. The narrative feels like a dream, with magical creatures and places, much like a wonderland. The story unfolds through various trials faced by Priya and she overcomes each challenge through her resilience and strength.

The thing that I liked most about the book was the novel concept and the imaginative world building. The Gods vs Demons conflict has been explored before but the book gives it a totally new setting and the unique character of Setana. The world building takes you to a vibrant, magical world of fairytales.

The characters are well crafted, especially Priya, and her unique companions; Handsome a zebra, Papa a wolf and owl named Guru. The interactions between these characters makes the journey more entertaining. The several twists and turns keep you guessing.

Overall, 'Disciple of the Devas' is a fascinating adventure that will keep you engrossed till the end.
