I hate my boss almost as much as I love my pufferfish, Potato.
Since my presence has always caused disaster wherever I go, I'm used to being bullied and outcast. I was not used to my favorite author, Viktor Bachelor, crushing my dreams in a writing critique I won from him ten years ago.
Fast forward to the present, and I have one ruin Viktor's life.
I schemed for years in order to become his PA so I could bestow the misfortune that is me upon him.
I'm not throwing a decade of loathing away just because I'm seeing a different side to him now that we're stuck together....in the same room....and bed...at a writing retreat.
No way.
Even if it gives him sciatica, he's sleeping on the floor. ~ This is a boss/pa, enemies to lovers romcom with plenty of sizzle, yet none of the spice. Fall in love with he falls first swoon, and enjoy the humorous world of Sunset, West Virginia.
Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.
Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.
Crisis is a very intense young woman who doesn’t do anything by halves. An author she adored in her most impressionable years crushed her dreams, so she planned his punishment for five years.
Unbeknownst to this author, Crisis made herself indispensable to him as his personal assistant. She is such a good assistant that while she helped him to not only make more money, she handled other aspects of his life and giving him more time. More time to write, fall in love with her, and try to figure out why she hates him.
Viktor endures the really disgusting smoothies she makes him every morning, if for no other reason than to see her smile as she enjoys his discomfort. What is wrong with him?
This is one of those weird enemies to lovers things, except that the MMC doesn’t act like a worthy enemy. Things like this make me crazy in that even if she was holding a grudge, what kind of psycho holds a decade long grudge over someone so sweet?
The writing is good, the characters well developed, and the convoluted reasoning in the plot is just weird. Three stars.
Have you ever felt so worthless, so hard to love, so much of a failure to anyone and everyone around you that the only way to not drown in it all was to build yourself a boat by repeating the negativity to yourself? All so that the words and looks of other people were just the waves lapping at your boat, nothing you hadn’t already told yourself and therefore harmless.
If yes, well then, do please accept my humble opinion as a stranger, but darling, YOU. ARE. PRECIOUS. ✨
Anyway, if any of the above was relatable or at all helpful to your mental health experiences, perhaps you should read this book. Take to heart the ways one character insists that another is worthy of love, including from themself.
I just love how every Camilla Evergreen book feels so therapeutic and like a love letter to all the girlies who struggle to accept their self-worth.
P. S. I made a character playlist for this book.🪻✨
This was so good, so freaking amazing. Viktor was so in love with her that he was willing to accept any crumbs she gave him. He was not afraid to say that he loved her and be would do what it took to show her his love was real and forever. Crisis didn't think she was special enough to be loved by anyone and it took a long time to understand thag what Viktor felt for her was real. I loved them together and their love
Crisis is one of the more creative female leads I've read in a long time. I love her spunk, I love her long range thinking, and I love everything about her wee pea puffer fish Potato. Viktor is fantastic, a great big brother, and oh so caring to those around him. I love all the side characters in this book (please oh please let Crimson get a book!) and the brothers are all so amazingly fantastic. I love the town that they all live in, and can't wait for more of the Bachelor brothers to find their HEAs! I read an early version of this funny, dual pov, standalone first in series. You should read it today. Don't wait!
I adore every single one of Camilla’s book but this one blew me away!
Love. In its purest and rawest form is how I can describe this book.
Having the ability to see through the pain, hatred and self loathing and finding the beautiful soul that is buried under all of that is exactly what I experienced while reading this book.
My heart was wrecked in the most wonderful way. Self hatred can be all consuming and it becomes a lense that you see yourself through. The one lacking. Never good enough. Always feeling out of place. But oh the character growth that both main characters go through 😭❤️
At times, it was like I was watching a movie and you want to hide from the really embarrassing moments but you just can’t look away. 🫣 😂
Camilla, makes you feel seen as a reader if you have ever felt like Crisis and/or Viktor.
I’m literally tearing up while writing this review because it was such an emotional read for me. There are highs and lows but overall, happiness wins. Confronting the negative self views and addressing conflict. Coming to terms with the past, forgiveness and moving on.
They always say that the line between love and hate is very small and this book was a brilliant example of that!
This was an Enemies to lovers perfection and I’m saddened that I will never be able to read this for the first time again. You know I already ordered the ebook and the exclusive chapter in the paperback form will be added to my shelves soon!
I’m pretty sure that my grammatical errors align with a certain character the most 😂
Everyone needs a bestie like Crimson🥹
Thank you the ARC and being a voice for the voiceless. All thoughts are my own.

Camilla Evergreen has once again knocked it out of the park with an enemies to lovers romcom that is the perfect blend of sweet and snarky--- and perhaps just the slightest bit unhinged (but in the best way possible). Crisis and Viktor are certainly not your typical romcom couple. First of all, as the title suggests, she absolutely loathes him after a critique he wrote on her writing years earlier. So, she worked to become his PA with the goal of making his life absolutely miserable. And he... falls for her anyway. And boy, does he fall hard. The lengths he will go to for her... well, you'll have to read it to find out! Their banter kept me smiling right from the start, but I also loved how he wanted to make her see her own worth. This was a fun way to start the new series, and already I find myself looking forward to seeing more of the Bachelor brothers as the series goes on. I can't wait.
Loathing My Boss is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. There are also brief mentions of abuse. As always, the author does a great job of laying out reader expectations, so I definitely recommend reading her note to decide if it's a good fit.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you enjoy tropes such as one bed, enemies to lovers, Billionaire boss, and maybe a slight miscommunication, then this is the book for you! If you like characters who are cute and quirky, this book is also for you! Luckily, I'm one of those people who enjoy all those things!
We first meet the main female character, named Crisis, when she's waking up and getting ready for the day. My heart was immediately stolen by her fish named Potato. We meet the main male character when Crisis gets to work, his name is Victor, and we learn through his actions that he's in love.
The only negative thing I can say about the book is that I wish that people like the characters existed in real life and that I could meet them.
With a name like hers, Crisis is not exactly surprised that accidents follow her like hornets on a tuna sandwich. But when she pours her heart and soul into a book and turns it in to her favorite author after winning a Free Critique, and that author crushes her dreams like popcorn, she is LIVID. And she wants revenge.
Living through so many crazy accidents has given our girl grit and patience, and a lot of trust issues. She plans and schemes and studies and becomes her (former) favorite author’s personal assistant…solely for the purpose of making his life as horrible, and productive, as possible. In that order.
Viktor Bachelor is the oldest in a family of billionaire boys. They own the town, literally. Viktor writes lots and lots and lots of books, and Viktor has two secrets: his upbringing was brutal and traumatizing…and he has a massive crush on his menace of a personal assistant.
Toss in an Age Gap, Just One Bed, Good Girl, Billionaire Boss and a small pufferfish named Potato, and you have yourself Camilla Evergreen’s newest masterpiece. Five stars.
Trigger warnings for foster care, memories of bullying, memories of domestic abuse, dead parents, and frequent accidents (furniture spontaneously crumbling, trees falling, etc.) The universe REALLY has it out for our girl Crisis.
I received an advanced copy of this book, but all opinions are 💯 my own! This book publishes on April 1, 2025.
Another gem of a story from Camilla Evergreen. I love these quirky, slightly deranged MCs and the depth and intensity of their feelings. Is it too over the top? Maybe sometimes, but most of the time it’s just pure unadulterated entertainment.
Crisis (I love that name) has despised Viktor ever since she won a critique from him as her favourite author, and he completely rejected her work as trash. Unbeknownst to him (as she wrote under a screen name), she plotted her revenge. She becomes his personal assistant, makes herself invaluable, but puts him through torture such as kale smoothies, making him eat all the things he hates and making him get up early to write. However, unbeknownst to Crisis, Viktor has been in love with her almost since he met her; he knows she does these things because she hates him, but doesn’t know why, and he doesn’t care because he loves her.
I adore Viktor, he is a grouchy dumpling. He’s willing to take all manner of torture just to be around Crisis. He’s prickly and not friendly to most people, but he’s so calm and patient when it comes to Crisis.
I loved how Crisis tormented Viktor about his age, it showed just how much she liked him. You’d never be rude about someone’s age if you didn’t genuinely like them, otherwise, it’s just plain nasty. It shows that deep down, she really does care about him.
Crisis is a personal assistant to popular writer Viktor Bachelor. She also truly hates his guts and has for the last decade. Finally working with the man is just part of her long-form plan to make his life miserable. Everything from getting him to drink “healthy for you” green smoothies in the mornings, like her favorite revenge combo of broccoli, peanut butter and chia seeds. She reworks his schedule to start getting up at 5 am so she can splash him with ice water to wake him up, and even tries collaborating with his brother’s cat, trying to coax the cat into leaving dead mice in Viktor’s bed.
Unfortunately for her, every wicked stunt she’s pulled just amuses him all the more as he falls deeper in love. If only he knew what he had done wrong so he could apologize and maybe then find a way to sweep her off her feet. In a desperate act to spend time with Crisis away from the office, Viktor asks two of his brothers to build a website, flyers and arrange for a 2-week writer’s convention at a local ranch and asks her to come along.
In here we get so many of the tropes that make an enemies to lovers romance sizzle: the only one bed scenario, the forced proximity of attending lectures, workshops and spending quiet time writing and the great fun of the horrible no-good secret reason for her hatred perhaps a miscommunication a decade old.
For the first in a series of five- one novel per brother- this promises to be a fun series to keep my eye on- with book 3 releasing September of this year.
Previously I discovered Camilla’s work through her (para)normal romance series, and I am happy to find this book is just as cleverly written with our leads well thought out and even the supporting cast likable. I felt for these two and actively rooted for their issues to work themselves out- even if they still aren’t perfectly balanced by the end.
Plus, she’s done it again. I love how lead characters are sometimes found reading another one of her books! Go for it, what a cheeky marketing plug.
It is a beam of warmth and radiance to curl up in while you read away the afternoon with a cup of your favorite comfort beverage. Consider me now charmed by the first Bachelor brother and his love and now it’s off to the next brother’s chance at romance.
Clean, and suitable for teens and up, though there is a little bit of innuendo included. Nothing happens more than kisses though and our leads pledge celibacy until after their upcoming “I do’s”. Oh, and no cussing- I love how the author allows her characters to curse but we don’t have to read it. Instead it’s a “he said this and then cursed before saying…” scenarios. I find it a hilariously charming writing choice that I just adore. Finally, an author who doesn’t feel they have to spell everything out.
That and the fact that her lead characters are far from perfect, but have some serious issues to deal with. Here we have bullies and abandonment issues on one side and childhood abuse on the other. Any and all issues I’ve read thus far are handled sensitively and courageously. More of a “no one is no broken that they can’t be found unworthy of love” when so many modern writers seem to dish out perfect people finding other perfect people. This is a far better life lesson than we want to acknowledge, but it’s certainly a good one to put out into the world.
There are so many feelings here. Love, hate, hope, despair, elation, uncertainty…
A decade ago, Crisis Day (no idea who bestowed that first name upon her) won a contest to have her writing reviewed and critiqued by her favorite author, Viktor Bachelor. Said critique was devastating to her, and to be honest, he could have been less blunt, but being destroyed by this man leads her to years of planning in order to make Viktor’s life a living hell.
YEARS.
Make no mistake, these characters are flawed people, but when it comes right down to it, aren’t we all flawed? Aren’t we all looking for some kind of validation that our lives, our work, our ideas, mean something?
Frankly, it isn’t hard to understand why Crisis was so devastated; she was bullied so much while growing up in foster care that she decided to do daily affirmations with insults, saying awful things to herself out loud while looking in a mirror, so those awful things wouldn’t wound her as deeply when someone else said them. Hoo, boy, I have been there. I was bullied, relentlessly, every day of my life, until I was seventeen years old. If it didn’t come from school, it came from church. Even my sisters bullied me. There was no safe haven. The difference between me and Crisis? She had a target and a plan, and went to great lengths to become Viktor’s personal assistant. I, on the other hand, got into therapy when I was nineteen.
It’s pretty clear that Viktor has no idea why Crisis hates him. Oh, yes, he knows she hates him, while he’s hopelessly in love with her. He’s been through his own trials, having had abusive parents, and being the oldest son, trying to protect his younger brothers from the worst of it. He’s never even had a relationship, never kissed a girl, nothing. It was all about survival for so long that he just never opened himself up to anyone…until Crisis.
Like all of Camilla’s books, I can relate to a lot of things about Crisis. I, too, have weird accidents that happen to me, which are usually accompanied by someone saying “Well, I’ve never seen that one before.” My husband has been witness to many such events in the twenty-seven years we’ve been married. I also used to say awful things to my reflection, as if my very existence should be met with punishment. Thankfully, I got therapy. Hopefully, Viktor and Crisis will, too.
I loved this book. I’ve never met a Camilla Evergreen book that I didn’t love, so that’s hardly a surprise. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the other Bachelor Brothers fall in love, and what crazy things come their way.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Camilla Evergreen is the QUEEN of the he-falls-first trope. She excels at writing men who are down BAD for their women.
Viktor is no exception. Despite his personal assistant, Crisis, being manipulative and mean to him, he is obsessed with her. Admittedly, Crisis has had a rough life. She grew up in foster care, bouncing from family to family, and was the victim of some intense bullying. When her very favorite author (Viktor) critiqued her work and basically told her it sucked, she went a little unhinged. What I mean by that is homegirl changed the trajectory of her life, figured out a way to get into Viktor's inner circle, and is now making his life as miserable as she can (read: broccoli + pb smoothies & waking up before dawn to see if he's efficient that way).
Both of these characters are broken. They do finally get to a point where they are able to talk through some things, and we're left with a hope that they'll continue to communicate and work well in a relationship.
One of my favorite parts was when How to Make Your Enemy Fall for You was mentioned! That's my favorite Camilla book, so it was fun to see it get a shout out! I also loved Crisis's friend, Crimson. She was so good at helping to build Crisis up.
Favorite Quotes: -"No worries." Many worries, actually. All of them. An infinite number of worries.
-"Loving you isn't just easy. Loving you lets me be kinder with myself. I am eternally grateful for you."
-"Wherever I can, I'll protect you. And if I can't stop whatever happens, I'll take care of you in the aftermath. I promise."
-"I wish..." He closes his eyes, turning a kiss against my wrist. "...you could speak to yourself like that. If you accept me, I'd like to become your mirror, Crisis. I'd like to wake up with you in my arms and murmur my adoration into your flesh until it sinks into your bloodstream and changes your opinion of yourself. I want you to see you how I see you."
-"Then, love me, and let me love you so much in return it fills you to bursting, so you'll have no place to cram all the mean words you tell yourself."
I’m back with another Camilla Evergreen review because Camilla Evergreen released a new book so of course I have to review it! I am always very excited when a new Camilla Evergreen book is released and this is no different. I absolutely devoured this book, it is a work of art. Sometimes I wonder if she's plucking thoughts from my head when I read her books because her characters hit so close to home. I have once again been reduced to tears, laughter, and giddy love confessions by Camilla Evergreen. Her characters are so adorable and relatable that I want to wrap them up in a hug and smother them with love and affection but neither the characters or I would handle that very well. Crisis has spent a decade scheming to get revenge for one soul crushing moment and while she’s coming up with ways to make Viktor repent for his sins, he is falling in love with her abuse and other things. I love the creative torture that was depicted in this story but I loved it even more when Viktor got the chance to woo her and prove to her that he loves her. The men that Camilla Evergreen writes are a little insane, extremely rich, and the most loving men to ever be written. The banter between Crisis and Viktor is hilarious and slightly unhinged as always which is exactly what I want. The growth that Crisis went through in this book was beautifully written, while she is a creative torturer she is also extremely capable and talented (I am also thoroughly in love with potato!). I adore the love and support that Viktor showered her with. To be seen at your worst and still be loved is one of the things that Camilla Evergreen writes extremely well and it makes me sob every single time. I am in love with this book and I can’t wait for more. I am enamoured with this new town that we have settled in and I am so excited to read about the rest of the brothers. The covers for these books are also so beautiful and I can't wait to eventually add them to my shelf. At this rate I might need a shelf just for Camilla Evergreen books because I want to own all of them!
I always know going into a Camilla Evergreen book that I am going to learn something new about myself while reading. Such is the case with Loathing My Boss.
Crisis Day lives up to her name in every single way. Disaster follows her day after day, and she is resigned to the fact that it is her fault. She finds no redeeming qualities within herself after years of other people’s bullying and abuse. 10 years after a writing critique from her favorite author, Viktor Bachelor, gone horribly awry, Crisis is set on revenge. Crisis finds a way to infiltrate the town Viktor and his family own, gets a job as Viktor’s assistant, and makes Viktor’s life as miserable as her own. The only hitch? Viktor quickly falls for Crisis, finding her ways endearing, not enraging. He knows he hates her (though he doesn’t know why), and still cannot stop himself from loving her. He just has to figure out how to get her to love him back. And more importantly, love herself.
I enjoyed reading about the many ways Crisis tried to make Viktor miserable. She is very clever and oh so conniving! Viktor just wants to love Crisis and be loved by her. They have both lived very difficult lives and he just wants to make her life better.
For many years, I was bullied and torn down by those around me. Too often, the bullying came from within. Watching Crisis change as someone tells her over and over that she is worthy and loveable was healing to my own past wounds.
This enemies to lovers, boss/assistant, forced proximity romance is yet another must-read from Camilla Evergreen. This is the first in a new series, The Bachelor Brothers and I cannot wait to read about the rest of these men.
This was my first book by Camilla Evergreen, and let me tell you—it will NOT be my last! It was an absolute whirlwind.
I loved Crisis and Viktor’s voices. Crisis had me laughing out loud—her inner monologue is hilarious and WILD. Viktor was also pretty realistic, and he had some great lines, too. They were both so well fleshed out and unique. Their flaws complemented each other perfectly. These two babies needed love, and I’m so glad they found it together.
I did struggle a little with Viktor’s side of the romance. As readers, we didn’t really see his feelings grow—we just witnessed him finally vocalizing them. But I still enjoyed how he won Crisis over. Crisis had me crying for her—my goodness. This girl embodied some of the darkest parts of me. I could relate, which also broke my heart. I was happy to see a shift in her.
Evergreen did not back down from harsh realities, which I so appreciate! It was a great, cathartic read. As I already said, I’m so looking forward to reading more of her work. Her voice as an author is so unique and wonderful.
My favorite lines: -“I’m working on what I’m always working on. Not. Losing. My. Mind.” -“I’m not a writer. I’m just…lonely. I’m just lonely, and the only thing that will listen to me is a blank page.” -“Yes,” he grumbles. “I’m very sure. So sure. Never surer.” Softly, he says, “You’re worth everything. Always. Forever. And, of that, I am completely sure.”
Content: Kisses only! No language (there are allusions to cussing, like “I cussed,” but no actual swear words are used—the author did a great job keeping the language PG).
This book was kind of absurd, but it sort of worked?
Crisis (crazy name BTW) was the most not like the other girls character I’ve ever read, which sort of annoyed me towards the end. She could have done with a little more character growth rather than the implied character growth that will happen after the book ends. There’s only so much that can happen in two weeks though, to be fair.
Viktor’s POV was genuinely so sweet and funny. This man was down HORRENDOUS. He really was the perfect book boyfriend, to his own detriment at times. I want more of his story!!
Truly the biggest detriment to this book was the way it’s clean? I kind of, sort of, don’t really understand the purpose of making a book “clean” if the characters are still going to swear LOL. It also meant we got this sort of odd, watered down version of Viktor’s story. Kind of a strange contrast to the super family-friendly, lighthearted nature of the book, especially when no one could actually properly explain his childhood because it’s too dark for the genre. The way abuse was so casually mentioned throughout the book bothered me quite a bit. Especially when it was thrown around in reference to Crisis’s silly pranks AND Viktor’s actually abusive parents in the same paragraph.
Now that I’m reflecting on this, Viktor really did all of the heavy lifting in this book. Get yourself a man who has feelings so profound he writes 200k words about you. I hope he finds therapy and peace <3 Love and light to Viktor.
How long could you plan and take revenge on your boss?
Crisis Day has been upset with Viktor Bachelor because of his critical review of her writing ten years ago, when she was seventeen. She has two joys in life: watching her beloved pea pufferfish, Potato, and making Viktor Bachelor pay for his earlier criticism by torturing him as his personal assistant for the last two years. But does she really hate him?
Viktor is used to abuse, as he and his brothers were physically and emotionally abused by their parents, who died years ago. Despite this mistreatment, Viktor has grown into a responsible man and a successful fantasy author. He cares for his brothers, and although he has never had a romantic relationship, he falls for Crisis and institutes a plan to make her fall for him by setting them up at a writer’s conference, complete with a one-bed trope.
With her usual flair, Camilla Evergreen brings together a HEA with hilarious banter, interesting characters, and entertaining situations. Check out the entirety of Chapter 17, which contains Viktor’s mental reaction after their first kiss. I can’t even describe it, but it’s that good. Also, if you have never seen a photo of a pea pufferfish, you have to google one. They are so cute!
This is the first book in the series, and I went into it already expecting the dark humour Camilla Evergreen is known for. The tone definitely leaned into that dry, sarcastic edge, which made the banter between characters sharp and frequent—something fans of enemies-to-lovers dynamics will likely enjoy.
Crisis (yes, that’s her actual name) was a bit difficult for me to connect with. Her personality was strong and distinct, but there were moments where I felt a disconnect, which is part of why this landed at 3.5 stars for me. Still, she held her own as a female lead, especially in such a charged workplace setup.
Viktor, on the other hand, really pulled at my heart. His backstory—particularly the emotional toll of growing up with toxic, manipulative parents—added depth and weight to his character. I genuinely felt for him and appreciated how the author wove in themes of trauma and healing beneath all the office antics.
The plot itself was intriguing, and while the romantic tension was front and centre, it was the layers of unspoken pain and personal growth that made the story more than just a typical workplace romance. If you're in the mood for a story that balances snark, steam, and emotional undercurrents, this is a solid start to the series.
3.5 ⭐️ Okay sooo the beginning gave me butterflies. Viktor was so my type quiet, serious, a bit cold, but so sweet and obsessed underneath?? I loved the way he cared for her and was always just there for her like I wanted to pause and say: I want a man like this in real life he was really everything.
BUT I’m being real here Crisis ruined it for me. First of all… girl, be serious. She literally focused her whole life on getting revenge over nothing. Like okay, he didn’t like your book?? You are that pressed over an opinion?? I get being hurt, especially if he was your favorite writer, but building your whole future just to work with him and get “revenge”?? That was so immature and made me roll my eyes.
And the worst part she hated herself constantly. Every time Viktor said something sweet, she was like “I’m not worthy” “I’m ugly” and all that stuff. She didn’t even appreciate him she kept pushing him away and dragging herself down like… enough already.
Also… there’s no real plot. No big problems, no jealousy, no saving scenes, no intensity just light jokes and a little office banter. It was fun clean and quick but nothing deep or memorable.
Tropes: • Enemies to lovers • Grumpy x sunshine • Boss x assistant • Forced proximity • He falls first • Clean romance
This may look like just another romcom on the surface, but once you began to peel back the layers, you will find beautifully flawed characters who are struggling with their own self-worth and value. Viktor not only survived a traumatic and abusive childhood, but he also protected his four younger brothers. When he loves, he loves deeply.
Then we have our female lead Crisis. Her name is fitting because disaster follows her everywhere she goes. She grew up in the foster care system and never knew unconditional love, only cruel teasing. She channels her bitterness and rejection into a torturous plot of revenge against Viktor. Well, maybe not full on torture unless you count kale and peanut butter smoothies with a side of gaslighting as diabolical.
As Viktor takes a risk on love, Crisis begins to see him for the broken and sincere man he is. And, as she returns his feelings, they both learn that love can heal even the deepest scars.
Oh … and there’s some serious chemistry, fireworks… all the sparks and swoon without the stuff that her characters save for marriage. Seriously.. all the feels. I need a million more books just like it! ❤️
Every single one! Camilla’s books are unlike any others. They make me laugh, they make me cry, they make my heart hurt for the characters, they make me stop and really think, they make me see the world in new ways. I loved Crisis and Viktor. Both products of abuse, they behave and react in ways that many would not. I loved watching them grow and accept/give love. This has become one of my favorite books by Camilla. I cannot wait to read about the rest of the Bachelor brothers.
Some favorite quotes: “Of course. I’m young and spry, remember? Bones like rubber.” My rubber butt hurts.
I didn’t want friends… I just wanted survival to be less…painful.
“What is that supposed to mean?” I shrug. “I don’t know. It was in a book I read once.”
“My elderly wisdom suggests that’s not how that works.” “Your elderly wisdom can take a long hike off a short pier.”
“One small, sincere act of kindness can overturn the opinion of even the most hateful of beings.”
“Just because you’ve felt worse doesn’t mean you deserve abuse from anyone, even if it’s something you can handle.“
Loathing My Boss by Camilla Evergreen is a crisis filled book of unforeseen situations that you just can't stop reading.
** I would like to express my thanks to ☆ Camilla Evergreen ☆ for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review **
First of all, enemies to lovers. I'm sold. Writing? ✍️ Absolutely spot on. Banter? All of it. Romance. Yes. Overcoming trauma in a respectful way? Double check. Funny? 100%. Couldn't put it down? No, I had to finish it as quickly as possible. I just have to say why aren't you reading Camilla Evergreen yet?
This book's main characters Viktor and Crisis both are two individuals who are well written, both with layer on layer of backstory. Strong female lead, who is driven and absolutely hilarious. Viktor? Where can I get me one of him? Sweet, caring, family man, goshhhhhhhhhhh. The author really does a great job at unpacking trauma and what it can do for you and your future relationships. Seriously love how the author respectfully rights about trauma and how it can affect your life.
Viktor and Crisis are most definitely enemies to lovers. He's completely head-over-heels and she...hates him. Camilla Evergreen is such a great writer. I was completely sucked in. These characters feel real. I wish I could be their friend! Crisis is Viktor's personal assistant. Viktor is a famous author. The reason Crisis hates him so much is, when she was younger, she submitted a work to him for review and he completely decimated her story, thus crushing her dreams. So, she spent the next ten years figuring out ways to torture him. She got qualified and hired as his personal assistant. She ended up doubling his income, which is several millions. The torture includes disgusting smoothies, supposedly healthy. She doesn't really want to hurt him, more make him extremely uncomfortable. He sees through this, but is so in love with her, he actually drinks the smoothies. How they end up resolving her hatred and finding love together is quite the ride. If you like quirky, this is a great read. Enjoy!
Seriously, right when I think I have a new favorite book by Camilla, she goes and writes another winner and then I have to demote that other book just a touch cause this new one is just that good.
I really did like this book and love the premise of this new series with this family of brothers that help run a small town. They are all so unique and I'm looking forward to reading each of their stories. Of course they have that shared trauma from their childhood and their parents and it's amazing to see how they learn to do life despite the challenges they faced. Viktor tries to shoulder the responsibility for so much and thinks things through so much, often putting aside what he wants for others. He waited so long to see if he really liked Crisis, or if it was just infatuation- so he could be completely honest in pursuing her. Very thoughtful and giving- letting her get away with her revenge plot even though he didn't know the reason behind it. They are such a cute couple and I completely loved their story.
In her unique style, Camilla Evergreen brings us a feisty story about one of five brothers who find some unexpected romance. I think she may be the queen of trauma exploration in romcoms, and watching her bring broken characters together in some of the wildest ways is always entertaining.
In Loathing my Boss, Crisis (yes, that's her name!) finds out that her decade-long revenge game against her boss altered her into someone she doesn't even know after finding out that no only does Viktor have feelings for her, but he is a genuine nice guy. Crisis and Viktor are both so quirky and eccentric. Reading their story is therapeutic in the best of ways. I feel like enemies-to-lovers stories seem to be where Camilla's passions lie, and it shows on the page.
Despite their lack of good relationships growing up, they are determined to grow up and do better. I can dig a story that has a little lesson for us all.
I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
Crisis. I’m in crisis. She had me screaming internally to love herself - all the while, the hatred she has for herself is sadly justifiable by the neglect and abuse that she lived through.
I hated that at times she was so relatable.(JUST IN CASE THIS IS NOT CLEAR, I LIKED THE BOOK.) It hurt me to see her suffering. It hurt in a good way, an emotional way. It was so hard to see that she was so hard on herself. It made me feel like crying. But it was not a bad thing, not a bad thing at all. It was a deep thing. It was reaching inside me and touching a part of me that understood the need for healing and love.
Ol’ Vikky boi. Hims and the Bachelors. I love. Sometimes it seems easier to love the MMC because I don’t have to relate to them as much (I am not saying that’s a good thing), but in this case Crisis made me love her so much. Sooo, I love them both. And their story. Cuties just figuring out life after trauma together and where falling in love fits in.
Crisis is a young woman who has always had disasters follow her. She develops an obsessive grudge against Victor Bachelor, a wealthy writer with a dark past. Crisis finds a way to work for Viktor and punish him by making his life better and more efficient and at the same time torturing him in her own special way. In spite of (or because of)her evil, sometimes hilarious ways, Viktor falls for her.
A two week writer’s conference leads them to see each other differently.
I enjoyed the characters and the secondary characters. The story was interesting and sweet. Camilla Evergreen has a magic touch. I have read almost everything she’s written and will continue to do so. She has a quirky, fascinating way with her stories, definitely not the same old romance story.
If you’re looking for something different to read that’s satisfying and leaves you with a smile, check out this book and others by Camilla.
Crisis is a strong FMC in this one, her trauma from such a young age has made her stronger than she thinks of herself. Apart from loathing her boss, she doesn’t love herself very much either and to watch her turn a corner with the support of Viktor is emotional. She’s full of sarcasm and sass, much needed when the book is full of dark trauma from the MCs. Viktor is a millionaire author who had a dark upbringing and is now full of structure and regiments. He’s also madly in love with Crisis, but trying to convince her of that is near impossible with her walls. A tale of emotional journeys, trauma bonding and my favourite, one bed trope! Great start to the new series, looking for to reading more.
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Whatever is in the water that Camilla drinks, I want it! She has the ability to craft the most compelling characters that can make you laugh, cry, and want to love in their world.
Crisis is a disaster of a woman (literally) but she is by far my favorite rom-com heroine. Her levels of spite are unmatched, and she's such an amazing organiser.
Viktor, Viktor, Viktor. I love you. He's just so pure and innocent, and damaged. And capable of so much love. I want to lock him up and shower him with so much affection his cup runs over with it. I want to do that with all of the Bachelor brothers anyway.
I devoured the ARC when I got it. I thought about it long after I finished it. This book is one of my favorites that Camilla has ever written, and I can't wait to see more of the Bachelor brothers.
