In this collection of four short stories, Peter Crestfallen is a San Francisco private investigator who has a penchant for attracting problem clients. He's the kind of gumshoe who’ll always give a hundred percent, even if it’s for a ten percent return.
In CRESTFALLEN’s V.I.P., Crestfallen has to track down a stolen teddy bear for a senior citizen and he’ll have to go up against the White House to retrieve it.
In CRESTFALLEN’s GETAWAY, Crestfallen has to smuggle a mob accountant out of San Francisco.
In CRESTFALLEN’s KINK, Crestfallen is hired to find out what a housewife does in her off hours and is drawn into a dark world of alternative lifestyles.
In CRESTFALLEN’s WIDOW, Jane Staam hires Crestfallen to prove she didn't kill her terminally ill, millionaire husband.
Simon Wood is a California transplant from England. He's an ex-competitive racecar driver, a licensed pilot and an occasional private investigator. He shares his world with his American wife, Julie. Their lives are dominated by a longhaired dachshund and five cats. In the last ten years, he's had over 150 stories and articles published. His stories have been included in “Best of” anthologies and he's a frequent contributor to Writer’s Digest. He's the Anthony Award winner and a Crime Writers Dagger Award finalist. This is a collection of four short stories about Peter Crestfallen, a San Francisco private investigator. He's a great investigator, but he tends to attract problem clients. The first story "Crestfallen's VIP," is about an old woman who hires him to find her very old teddy bear which has been stolen. In "Crestfallen's Getaway," he has to smuggle a mob's accountant out of San Francisco. Third, "Crestfallen's Kink," is the investigation of a housewife to find out where she goes and what she does in her off hours. And fourth, "Crestfallen's Widow," he has to find evidence to prove Jane Staam did not murder her millionaire husband. Simon Wood is a great author, very imaginative and cunning. He knows how to sweep readers into his mysterious, sometimes chilling, stories. Very well written. Highly recommend this book of shorties!
I really enjoyed these short stories. I wouldn't normally read a p.I. book (don't know how it got in) but am enjoying these. I've found a writer I'm enjoy reading and am not looking for another for a long while!!! I see there's as lot of good reading ahead of me.
Good short stories are hard to write. You don't have a lot of room to accelerate and break. Simon wood does a great job maneuvering in the confined space of a short story.
