What does lent mean? This book centers us on what lent is supposed to be for the Christian. It is a time to observe and reflect on what God did through Jesus. It is a time of Joy and worship because this season is the season we celebrate the ultimate act of God’s love towards us. Great book for any Christian who longs to draw closer to Jesus.

Some helpful and thoughtful devotionals here. I found the Holy Week devos the most impactful.

I finished this morning and was happy to see there were two other reviews! What a delight that this book did not end with Easter Sunday but continued on with Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday.

All of the Devotional books I have received from Christianity Today have been wonderful. I have let my subscription expire so this will be my last one. I've saved them all though and will pull them out season appropriately. They are just so good it will be a pleasure to reacquaint with them over again.

It is genuinely difficult to pick favorites amongst such quality but I'll list two I really liked:

In I have Calmed and Quieted my Soul by John Starke he wrote the following: " Let us seek the Lord, opening ourselves to him, hoping not in our self-management but in his presence and power. From this time forth and forevermore, lay your management strategies and safety schemes down. Hope in the Lord and his goodness."

and

Swallowed Up in Victory by Malcolm Guite provided such beautiful poetry to reflect on. He said, "One of the most famous lines in English poetry, lines which have given courage and peace in the face of death to so many:
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
May we all rest and rise in the good news of Easter, the news that "one short sleep past, we wake eternally."

Thank you Christianity Today and Contributors!

I liked the passages they selected, but all the personal anecdotes from different contributors felt disjointed and hard to relate to, personally. I wish they had reflection questions like they usually do in their Christmas devos. But it was pretty and free and kept me focused on Jesus through the Lent season, so those are all wins! There was usually at least a sentence each day that really jumped out at me. Today’s was: “If dying for us brought him such joy, shouldn’t living for him bring us joy?”

Finding a good Lenten devotional can be challenging. In the past, I've started one but not finished it. The strength of "The Road to Joy" is the variety and diversity of the authors and their thoughtful approaches. I walked and prayed my way through it. God specifically spoke to me through me some of these writers.
