Art by Nohr

Rate this book
Johan Nohr is a Swedish visual artist and graphic designer probably best known for his vibrant work in the tabletop roleplaying game scene. This ink-dripping brick of a coffee table art book collects some of his finest pieces from between 2006 and 2023: from the blood-drenched neon demons of MÖRK BORG, CY_BORG and various zines to illustrations from unreleased game modules, abandoned projects and quick doodles. A lot of the artwork is annotated with thoughts and comments, as well as in-progress sketches, scrapped versions and more. A peek into the workshop, if you will.

Johan Nohr is a Swedish artist and illustrator best known for the artistic drive behind the smash tabletop roleplaying game Mork Borg. Mork Borg's doom metal aesthetic and a gameplay that matches the aggression of its art have made it beloved. The extremely friendly third-party publication license hasn't hurt either.

As the title would suggest, this is an artbook collecting Nohr's work. The insides of the covers are some of his earliest works and the interior content, unsurprisingly, focuses quite a bit on Mork Borg itself. But it does run the full lot of Nohr's portfolio including album covers and other TTRPGs and does make sure to showcase his pieces that vary from the standard Mork Borg aesthetic. The book itself is huge, coffee table-book sized an presents Nohr's pieces in wonderful quality. It's a fantastic art book containing some absolutely metal pieces of art.

My favorite section is one showcasing Nohr's habit of drawing on cardboard envelopes. Typically for things ordered directly from him but I love it when an artist includes pieces of one-of-a-kind art with such things. It reminds me of the drawing of a Modron I got on Tony DiTerlizzi's fantasy art book.
