Golden Falls #1

The Summer for Us

Rate this book
He’s the grumpy small town local, and she’s the summer tourist winning over the whole town. What happens when he finally lets his guard down and opposites attract?

Juliette Campbell might’ve won the hit reality dating show Paradise Love, but it came at the cost of an embarrassing breakup splashed across social media. Needing a quiet getaway, Jules packs her car and makes the drive from Chicago to a small town in northern Wisconsin where she’s rented a cabin for the summer. The sun, lake, and fresh air will be just what she needs to get her life and career back on track. Jules intends for Golden Falls to be a pit stop, but she quickly grows attached to the town and its residents. Well, except for one person.

Wesley Richards is a quiet, closed-off, no nonsense kind of guy. He wants nothing to do with Juliette, whatever she’s running from, or those damn sundresses she’s always wearing. He does his best to avoid his new neighbor, but that’s tough to do when she’s everywhere—dancing at his bar, tanning in her bikini, and making friends with everyone in town. But once they get past the not-so-great first (and second) impression Wes made, he realizes just how much he needs the confident, sassy brunette in his life.

But with the summer months flying by, Juliette and Wesley are running out of time. Will their sizzling romance stand the heat? Or will their love fizzle out once summer ends?

The Summer for Us is a small town, dislike to love, opposites attract romance. It’s the first in a series of interconnected standalones each taking place in northern Wisconsin during a different season. Be prepared for banter, tension, and spice that will make you blush!

Thank you to Luna Literary Management for this ARC! 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story and romance between Wes and Jules, but their tension in the first third or so of the book sometimes felt a little unfounded. Wes’s backstory re: Gretchen felt a little out of nowhere. I also was surprised that Ruby was basically the only that recognized Jules after her recent stint on reality tv. Once Wes and Jules got together, I bought into their chemistry (and spice!!), but it just felt like the switch from enemies to lovers was a little random.

One thing I struggled with was delayed physical descriptions of characters. It wasn’t until about a quarter of the way through the book that we started to get descriptors for what Jules and Wes - and even some smaller characters like Cooper - looked like. I found myself having to change who I envisioned them to be more than once. Other descriptors though, such as the Richardson’s house or Lily’s cafe, felt really detailed and easily allowed me to envision the setting.

This was a fun, quick summer read and ultimately I enjoyed the romance of Jules and Wes.

I was lucky enough to have an ARC of this book and am so excited that I did!

As a lover of dating shows, I loved how that was intertwined in the backstory of the FMC. I really enjoyed the grumpy MMC and the overly sweet FMC. There were some adorable moments throughout the whole book but also some great romance and spicy moments. I fell in love with the whole town and cannot wait to read more and fall in love even more!

Everything was pretty predictable but I loved every second of it! This was the first book from this author that I have read and I will gladly read more!

This was a short and sweet summer read! I really enjoyed the small-town setting, but the emotional connection and tension between the two main characters felt underdeveloped to me. The writing wasn’t my favorite, but kept me engaged the entire time!

Holy cow, what an amazing debut!

I was lucky enough to be apart of Isabela's BETA and ARC team, and I will not stop screaming about how much I love Wes & Juliette.

Juliette ends up in a small town after a devastating break up and ends up being neighbors with grump Wes. Their initial interactions were very rocky, because Wes didn't want a city girl coming in and messing with his town. As they begin to truly get to know each other Wes's grumpiness towards Juliette begins to fade into infatuation. While this is a slow burn, the tension & chemistry were starting to heat things up before anything happened between the two. I loved the playfulness they had with each other and their banter had me laughing out loud.

I began to fall in love with Golden Falls, because of how well Izabela's descriptions of the town were. Also, along with falling in love with the main characters, the side characters's personalities began to blossom when they welcomed Juliette with open arms. The found family aspect was amazing and I wish I was having lake days with them.

I am so excited to continue to follow Isabela's author journey!

This is an amazing debut!! I absolutely fell in love with Izabela’s writing style, and was so grateful to be part of the beta process! I love Wes and Juliette, and will never shut up about them!

This is the perfect summer read! This story made me want to be on a lake with my all my friends enjoying a summer day ☀️ it gave such feel good vibes — I truly felt immersed in Golden Falls! Izabela’s descriptions painted me a full picture of this town and all the characters. And the way Wes saw Juliette? I was a puddle on the floor while he fell so damn hard over her. I lived for his POVs bc he was so down bad.

The way Juliette’s character developed and she found happiness in their small town, I loved that for her! And the banter?? Juliette was sassy and I loved every time she had a smart mouth comment back to Wes. It had me so giddy! These two were everything!! I cannot wait to see what’s to come in this series! 🫶🏼

This is THE summer read! Juliette and Wesley's story had all the summer vibes, and it felt like the perfect time to read it. Juliette and Wesley's story was so sweet, and I liked how they took their time to get to know each other and realize that they were meant to be together. Juliette was such a strong, sassy fmc, and her friendship with Lily and Eliza was everything. Wesley was the perfect grumpy mmc that's secretly really gentle and kind, and he and Jules fit together so nicely. Golden Falls was the perfect backdrop, and it felt like I was out at the lake sitting with the whole friend group. That's another thing that I absolutely adored about this book. The found family aspect and many friends that Jules makes when she moves to Golden Falls for the summer were all so well-written. The perfect small town romance! 💕 Thank you so much to Izabela Kamila and Luna Literary for allowing me to arc-read The Summer For Us!!

Thank you to Izabela Kamiński & Luna Literary for this ARC in return for my honest review!

I absolutely loved Izabela’s debut contemporary romance novel! I have fallen in love with the community of Golden Falls and cannot wait for book 2 in the series!

Wes & Juliette were perfect for each other! Each imperfect in their own ways, but together made each other better people ❤️ Wes, a grumpy towney, who’s been hurt in the past has built up a huge brick wall that would be difficult for anyone to get through, but somehow Juliette manages to do that effortlessly! Juliette is so sassy & witty and definitely one of my new favorite FMC!

I loved the texts interspersed throughout the book! I’m always a huge for of this because it really puts me in the mind of the character.

The tension was delicious and once it finally snapped there was no going back 🥵

This book got me out of my reading slump and I cannot recommend it more!

I liked this book a lot. It was really fun to read and had the exact vibe I was looking for. The romance was sweet and also had some great tension. Juliette and Wes were total opposites, but that made it interesting. He was quiet and closed off, and she was full of life. I liked how they slowly got closer, it felt natural, not rushed. The small town setting was so cozy. I loved the feeling of community and how everyone was connected. There were a lot of cute and funny scenes, and also some emotional ones. I was smiling a lot while reading, and I didn’t want to stop. Thank you so much to the author and Luna Literary PR for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.

“We knew what was coming, but maybe it was okay to forget about it for a moment. To just be. Together.”

What a great slow burn!! The grumpy neighbor and the city girl get off to quite the rough start. Their story was adorable! Wes is a big ol broody cinnamon roll! Swoon worthy!!! ☺️ Juliette is trying to find herself personally and in her career! The growth and healing of these two came full circle in a cutesy ending! The banter was fantastic, Juliette has quite the comebacks! 😏 Can’t wait to see what happens with Lily!!!

“I want to take you out,” he said in a low murmur. I turned my head so I was looking up at him, a smirk on my lips. “Like kill me? Or on a date?”

Huge thanks to Izabela Kamila and Luna Literary for the opportunity to receive a review copy of The Summer for Us!

Unfortunately this was a DNF at 25%. I just couldn’t get into this one and felt like I was the wrong demographic. I’m used to reading plenty of characters under 30 (because unfortunately, that is what seems to dominate the market), but I couldn’t get past two of the side characters (one of which features quite a bit in the portion of the book I read) being established in a way that felt very unrealistic for someone under 30 — let alone under 25, which they were. It just wasn’t the right fit for me.

He’s the grumpy small town local, and she’s the summer tourist winning over the whole town. What happens when he finally lets his guard down and opposites attract?

I truly enjoyed this sweet organic romance. The storyline flowed effortlessly, the chemistry between Jules and Wes gave just the right amount of tension to enjoy the slow burn. This small town romance has so many fun side characters that are just down to earth and pleasantly add so much to this sweet feel good novel.
The Summer for Us definitely gave me a “Virgin River” feel but with a little more spice🌶️🤗 .

“Did you ever think something could feel this right?” “ No, not before meeting you.”

If you’re a fan of the show Virgin River. A feel good contemporary romance, then you’ll definitely enjoy The Summer for Us.

Super Cute and easy summer read! I found this book easy to get into and perfect for those who are mood readers who need some romance and summer vibes. I loved the small-town vibes, especially how they played a significant role in the story and were not just used as a backdrop.
As someone who does enjoy spice but also is here for the plot, this book had equal amounts of both (thanks to the dislike-to-love trope). On a spice scale of 1-5, I'd give this book a 2.5

Speaking of tropes, The Summer for Us has tropes that are sure to satisfy any romance reader.
- Small town romance
- Dislike to love
- Forced Proximity (they're neighbors, y'all)
-Opposites attract
-Grumpy MMC x sassy FMC
- Found family
- Slower burn
- first person dual POV
- Open door spice

ARC review 💞

The first half was strong, it was going to be 4⭐️ but then the second half fell really flat. I was struggling to keep my attention on the book, it was already pretty forgettable while still reading.

If you’re reading for the vibes, it can be a 4⭐️ read but (unfortunately, lol) I pay attention to plot execution and character development and characterization and the second half of this book lowered my rating to 3⭐️.

I like how it’s not adversities as enemies to lovers but as dislike to love and it really was that! I wish there was more development of the relation, it went quite slowly at first from the dislike to like but then kinda overnight they jumped to love, calling each other baby ect.
It was 50% buildup and then 50% of them being in relationship, no in between part really. If you like such vibes, it’s definitely for you, I prefer to see the real development of the relationship.

It was an okay book for me. Writing was decent enough, but the plot was rather mediocre, definitely the execution was not engaging enough, I was bored reading the second half.

It started off with the FMC being supposedly “A LOT” but I still don’t see even one scene when she was that. The characters were pretty bland, not really standing out.

I received an ARC of this book. It was such a sweet and swoon-worthy book. There was tension, heat, drama, found family and a beautiful love story. Wes and Jules were 👩‍❤️‍👨! I loved seeing their love story develop. I also loved that there wasn’t a third act breakup 🙌. There was some spice but it happened toward the middle half of the book. This was the author’s debut book and I was very impressed with the story. I’m excited to read the next in the series to see what happens with Lily and Gabe in Fall 2025!

This was such a fun read. Green flags in friends, family (found or not), & the main characters. I'm excited to come back to Golden Falls in future books to see these characters again while learning more about some secondary & new characters when Book 2 comes out later this year. (I feel like there could easily be 4-5 books in this series, & I'm ready for the long haul!)

ARC - So the book started off kind of slow and I was having a bit of a hard time getting into it. About 20% in it started to pick up and I did enjoy the rest of the book. It had some really cute, swoon worthy moments. I loved the friendships Juliette made and the found family. I am excited to see what else is in store for Golden Falls and the rest of the series. Overall, I think if you like a cute summer romance to get your mind off of reality, I would give it shot.

*The Summer for Us* is pure summer wonderfulness! Juliette is walking sunshine ☀️ the type of person who knows no stranger. Juliette heads to Golden Falls, a beautiful Wisconsin lake town, to get away from an unfortunate public humiliation. Right away the townspeople welcome her, except for one.....

Wesley her grump of a neighbor who also happens to be her new bestie's brother.
Try as he might there's no denying her sunshine and magnetism. He doesn't want to get too close because he knows she's leaving at the end of summer, but little by little he falls.

Thankfully Juliette falls too, and not just for Wesley, but for the entire town of Golden Falls and all its wonderful people. I loved the side characters almost as much as I loved our MCs, and I cannot wait for the next books in the series! I too fell for Golden Falls and can't wait to go back.

This book is sweet, funny, sassy, witty, touching, and full of love with the perfect amount of spice!

Has Juliette finally found her home, her place where she can be her true self and a man who loves every piece of her just as she is? And has Wesley finally found his better half, the woman who's place is by his side forever?

Juliette needs a break from Chicago when she’s dumped after being on a reality dating tv show. She spends the summer in a small town in Wisconsin and discovers more than just some peace and quiet. (TW: bl00d, past infidelity, death)

This story feels like a hug. It was such a cute story. I liked the characters and their chemistry. I loved the ending. The two main issues I had were the pacing (so freaking slow) and the amount of details (way too much detail for side characters). Perhaps all the extra details is what was contributing to the slow pacing (see spoiler section below for more thoughts).

Release date 6/20/25. Thank you to the author and Luna Literary for the ARC!

Book 2 comes out in December. Will I read it? Yes I really liked the character of Lily!

🚨 spoiler below
-PACING: This book is boring it took me over a week to read. The plot flow was so weird. Maybe it’s because it only covered two-ish months. It was very slow pacing until halfway. Even after halfway it picked up a bit but there wasn’t much happening.
-DETAILS: There is so much detail about side characters that didn’t affect the plot. Scarlett, Vera, Marnie, Gabriel. The plot got so far into the weeds at times.
-This is instalove. At 50% their dynamic all of a sudden went from icy to trauma dumping to really hot and heavy and living together.. it seemed a bit clunky and rushed. It felt like piece of the story were missing and I wanted more to feel more connected to their connection.

This book was such a sweet summer book. It really is a feel good book for the summer. I can imagine rereading it on the beach or by the pool with some seltzers. It had me smiling and kicking my feet so much throughout. The writing is so good! It has amazing banter, a swoon worthy book boyfriend and sassy FMC who doesn’t back down. Also the side characters are perfection. I swear this is a book world I would LOVE to live in. I think I’m going to reread again just for the vibes. And that ending was so cute!! I cannot wait to read Lily and Gabriels story next. I have a feeling there will be a little matchmaking going on!! If you’re in the market for a sweet summer romance, look no further.

YUP!! oh how I loved LOVED this book my god! The Summer For Us is a small town dislike to lovers romance where we follow our FMC Juliette as she tries to take a step back from the spot light after a very public breakup following a reality dating show and our MMC Wesley as he comes to terms with his new neighbor in his small home town after a breakup that still haunts him. We watch through their eyes as scowls turn to smiles and dislike turns to love. We watch as they heal, fall in love and find themselves again.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Juliette and Wesley. They are such unique characters and so different from each other which made their love story so much better!! I loved how Juliette was able to find herself and over come everything that happened. Watching her find her home, her happy place in this small town and connect with everyone there was so special I loved it! Okay where do I find myself a Wesley?? I am obsessed with him. Watching his grumpiness fade and turn in to love for Juliette was everything!! He is such a teddy bear when his walls are stripped down. He cares for everyone before himself but also keeps to himself to protect for getting hurt. Watching him find his happiness after his breakup was so amazing! I loved these two so much!!

The writing was so good! My goodness. I absolutely loved the premise of the reality dating show and how that fed into the main small town plot! I was honestly so obsessed with the gossip blurbs that we got throughout! It just tied everything so nicely together! I have been loving small town romances recently and this has quickly climbed its way to one of my favorites. I honestly devoured this book in a day and it was just soooo good! I loved the found family aspect and how close all the characters are!! I just know the rest of this series will just keep getting better and better!! I can’t wait!!

Overall, I loved everything about this book! I’m honestly so obsessed and can’t wait till I have my hands on the next book! I would like to thank Izabela Zamila and Luna Literary for the ARC! 🏺🎆💙

A sweet little surprise of a summer read ☀️

Curling up with The Summer For Us felt like stepping into sunshine — light, breezy, and with just the right touch of romance. It was exactly what I needed: a feel-good, slow-burn story to sink into on a lazy afternoon.

This is Izabela Kamila’s debut (can we take a second to clap for that?!), and honestly, I wouldn’t have guessed. Her writing is smooth and engaging without trying too hard — it flows in that effortless way that makes you forget you’re reading and just pulls you into the story. There’s a lovely balance of humor and heart throughout, which kept me smiling even when the characters were being stubborn (looking at you, Wesley 🫵🏻).

Speaking of which — I really enjoyed the dynamic between Juliette and Wesley. There’s tension, banter, and all the good stuff you'd expect from an “enemies to lovers” setup, but it never feels forced or overdone. It unfolds naturally, and I actually believed in their emotional growth, which isn’t always a given in romance books. They’re both a little guarded, a little lost, and that made their connection feel real.

There’s something really satisfying about a book that knows exactly what it wants to be (and actually pulls it off!). The Summer For Us gave me the kind of charming escape I was hoping for: characters I genuinely cared about, a slow-burn romance that felt earned, and a story I didn’t want to rush through. And for a debut? Very promising. I’m genuinely curious to see what Izabela Kamila writes next (I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for book two) .

Would I recommend it?
Absolutely — especially if you’re looking for something light but well-written, romantic but not cliché-heavy, and ideal for beach days or whenever you just want a bit of warmth on the page. It left me with that happy, content feeling — like summer should 😌

Thank you, Izabela Kamila and Luna Literary Management for the arc.
