Love After Life

Deflowering Delphi

Rate this book

Two facts used to be certain.

Firstly, there should be nothing erotic between Captor and Captive. And secondly, the Hellish God of Power should want absolutely nothing to do with me, the High Priestess of Time and Fortune. I am far too good, too pure, too holy for him. And yet, he still kidnaps me and forces me to help him on an undisclosed mission.

In theory, my unhinged and obsessive kidnapper should let me go once I’ve fulfilled my purpose. But why would a predator release squealing prey? My fate grows worse, especially now that I’ve shown him good girls also have dirty knees.

I am obsessed with Holly's books. This series I've read twice now- yes, twice! And this book only just came out 2 weeks ago in paperback.
It is very erotic, so watch out if you're not into this! But a strong woman with a possessive alpha male- what more could you want??

She’s finally did it! She’s cracked my wicked heart & brought me to tears lol. Deflowering Delphi is the 2nd book in the Love After Life series by Holly Guy & MWAH it was absolute perfection. Same as the first one it’s a dark, erotic fantasy romance but OMG it hits deep, I didn’t want to put it down & I ABSOLUTELY loved it from beginning to end! I’m full of excitement for what’s next.

When reading Deflowering Delphi, it gave me a completely different vibe compared to Death’s New Pet, regardless of them being in the same world. Unlike the first book which is seemed more of a desire to possess, insight pleasure & torture, Deflowering Delphi felt more complex, like underneath all the darkness was a deeper connection of similar love, not that we hear the word mind lol It’s more of a burning feeling.

Delphi our FMC name gained from her captivity goes by multiple names; High priestess of time & fortune but her original name, the one given to her in Heaven is Pytho. She’s spent centuries in Hell on a noble & heroic mission with dignity, but unfortunately things don’t go according to plan when she is Kidnapped from her previous captor “Success”, into the hands of someone much darker & more dangerous, “Power” our MMC. But Power has his own motives, one more honourable than the other.

One thing I noticed whilst reading was occasionally there was a printing error where the occasional word would overlap with another word underneath during printing, completely out of her control but don’t panic it doesn’t take away from ANYTHING, I find it personally unique and a true first edition whilst she is still an Indie Author. You never know when some big company will snatch her up and we won’t see this! There was also the odd spelling error or a word I felt was missing to string the sentence together, but once again it didn’t take away any of the experience for me. Once again it made me feel special to support someone so early on in their career. It shows how hard-working Indie authors strive and how much effort they put in to bringing their work to life and working with limited people involved in the process. They should be proud regardless of what us reviewers spot along the way.

Deflowering Delphi is up there with Nympho Notes for me. It served up the tension, possessive alpha God, strong and inexperienced FMC and enemies to lovers 🔥.

When Delphi, the Priestess of time and fortune finds herself captured by the God of Power, forced against her will to complete a mission for him, it quite literally takes both of them on a journey of destruction and self discovery.

When the two most unlikely characters connect, the magic truly happens and the chemistry is insane. One spicy scene between these two characters towards the end of the book when the power dynamic shifted was executed perfectly…chefs kiss 😙.

This story was incredible, but for me the biggest standout of the whole book, was the character development of Power and Delphi, and the shift in dynamic between them.

It’s safe to say this book had me falling for a hellish being 🤭.

I really loved this dark romance. While it didn’t quite reach the heights of Death’s New Pet, it was definitely stronger than Nympho Notes for me. Once the story found its footing, it delivered exactly what I want from this genre: tension, character development, and a satisfying happily ever after.

The dynamic between the evil god and his priestess was especially compelling. There’s something irresistible about a terrifying, powerful character who still has a soft spot for one person, and that contrast worked beautifully here. And yes, the spice absolutely be spicing.

That said, the book does have a slow start, and it could have benefited from a tighter edit in places. But once it really dives into the story, the payoff makes the wait worthwhile.
Dark, intense, and deliciously dramatic, a very enjoyable read despite a few rough edges.

Just like Death's New Pet, I love the premise of the plot and the characters, and it was ALMOST there but I think again it just felt slightly rushed.

I really loved Power and Delphi's characters developments and was definitely rooting for Power by the end. The spice was definitely there alongside other tumultuous feelings which really added a better level of slow burn compared to Death's New Pet.

What I really couldn't overlook was the number of grammatical errors and mistakes. There were a lot of issues with misused words, missing filler words and unfinished sentences. I think the the author could have focused a little more on using synonyms which would have helped some sentences read better.

🌶🌶🌶🌶

The speed at which I devoured this whole series was unholy. I feel like I sound like such a fan girl, but I was honestly left with such a hole when I finished this series, I fear nothing will be as good again 😭

Delphi Deceived is the second book in the love after life series, but they can really be read in any order, this was by far my favourite.

The story follows Delphi, the priestess of time and fortune, a heavenly being who is kidnapped by the God of Power and taken to hell to complete a mission for him.

This book had it all, forced proximity, spicey spice, tension, character development, and an amazing storyline.

I'm honestly obsessed with Holly's writing, and I'm working my way through her back catalogue now that I've finished this series. 🖤

Stop what you’re doing and read this book! It’s so freakin good! It’s like a mix of dark romance + Greek mythology + theology all rolled into an amazing story. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, “inexperienced” FMC, past trauma are some of the main tropes.

Delphi Deceived by Holly Guy (also known now as Deflowering Delphi) is the second book in the Love After Life series, though after reading the first two, I think they can easily be enjoyed as standalones.

I liked the overall plot and really enjoyed the dynamic between Power and Delphi. There was a twist I genuinely didn’t expect, and it actually made me feel quite sorry for Power. Compared to Death’s New Pet, this one is definitely more of a slow burn. I’m not sure which I preferred, but I think Death’s New Pet edges ahead for me—just slightly.

The story follows Delphi, the Priestess of Time and Fortune, a heavenly being who ends up kidnapped by Power and taken to Hell to help him complete a mission. It’s very much a dark paranormal romance, with gods, demons, and a mythic tone.

I enjoyed it, but it didn’t haunt me after I finished. Fun, but not unforgettable.
