4.9/5 The volume was so incredibly cute! Lin Feiran and Gu Kaifeng were just sickeningly sweet to each other throughout the whole thing; I couldn't get enough of them.
Lin Feiran is such a sweetheart! His kindness and compassion for ghosts, and his desire to help them move on, really warmed my heart.
Gu Kaifeng is so cheeky! The love he has for Lin Feiran reminds me a little of Hua Cheng. He isn't afraid of who he loves, will protect him no matter what, and has such devotion.
⚠️Major Spoilers Ahead!!>⚠️
Lin Feiran activated Gu Kaifeng's Yin-yang eye, so now they can see ghosts together! Lin Feiran, Gu Kaifeng, and their friends went on a little vacation. We got to see the side couple being all domestic, which was a nice touch. While on vacation, Lin Feiran and Gu Kaifeng climbed a mountain where they met a monk, Master Chengguan, who had passed on and was helping others do the same. I won't go into details, but Master Chengguan pretty much told them they were soulmates.
There was a side chapter that made me cry my eyes out! It was so tragic, and I wished those characters had a better ending, but knowing they're happy now makes me feel a little better.
The side characters were something else! There was only one chapter with them, but the amount of teasing they brought to the table was hilarious, and they weren't even together yet! The baby ghost was also a great touch and so funny!
Lin Feiran and Gu Kaifeng graduated and got into the same college where they continue helping ghosts, humans, and animals pass on. Even throughout high school, Lin Feiran was always helping ghosts as much as he could. They now live happily together with their two little kittens!
What a teeth-achingly sweet little gem of a book! I went in expecting something light and simple, and honestly—it delivered exactly what I needed. Sometimes all you want is a cozy, feel-good story that wraps around you like a warm blanket, and this was it.
I’ll admit, I was hesitant at first. The Goodreads ratings were on the lower side, and the publisher, Rosmei, isn't one of the more well-known names in the danmei world (though they're clearly on the rise). Add to that the slightly steeper price point, and I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it. But I’m so glad I took the chance—I actually bought the book, and no regrets at all.
What did surprise me was the mature tag. For a story centered around high schoolers, I didn’t expect it to take things quite so far in the intimacy department. The final two chapters, in particular, had me feeling... a little flustered—in the best way possible! That said, the overall tone remains incredibly sweet and wholesome.
Do note that the main plot wraps up fairly early, with a good chunk of the book dedicated to extras. Personally, I didn’t mind at all—I was more than happy to bask in the fluff and see more of the couple just being adorable together.
If you’re looking to take a break from the heavier, angst-filled danmei novels and just want something that will make you smile, this is the perfect pick. Grab a hot cup of tea, curl up in bed, and let the sweetness take over
“Whenever I think about us not being together in our past lives, I feel compelled to cherish you more in this one. I will stick with you.”
This volume was enjoyable in a lighthearted way, though it left me wishing for a bit more. The three main chapters move the romance forward, with Gu Kaifeng and Lin Feiran’s relationship becoming the clear center of attention. Their chemistry is fun to read, and the blend of heartfelt moments with silly comedic beats made for an easy and entertaining read. It’s the kind of volume that thrives on its characters just being together, which can be charming in itself.
The collection of extras adds variety, giving readers glimpses of different situations and relationships outside of the main couple. Some focus on side characters, others on imaginative scenarios, and there are slice-of-life moments that feel almost like fanservice shorts. While these are cute and sometimes funny, they also fragment the flow of the book. I couldn’t shake the feeling that the material might have been better balanced if the story chapters and the extras were separated into different volumes, instead of being packed together here.
What keeps this volume from feeling stronger is the way its structure leans so heavily on extras and side stories. While many of them are charming, the pacing can feel uneven, and some scenes linger longer than they need to. The romance is the main draw here, and it really shines, but the volume doesn’t build much narrative momentum beyond showcasing sweet or comedic situations. I liked spending time with the characters and seeing their relationship flourish, yet I wished for a tighter flow that made the whole book feel more cohesive.
This duology was like the dramas "Stay by my side" and "Oh No! Here Comes Trouble" rolled into one and I loved it! Loved the main couple, loved the side couple extra in this volume (Volume 2 is almost entirely extras). Just wholesome, romantic fun. Another confirmation for why I need to read more danmei, the novels in this genre are usually so engaging to read.
ahh!~ i felt this would have rated so much higher if i had an official translation to read. i really liked the concept and the relationship between the two was so good! it just felt like it dragged on a little too long.
