Logan Westin, the brooding hunk that steals Kailin Odel's heart in SKIN DEEP. Even the fact that she's a panther shifter and he's plain old human couldn't stop the sparks from flying between those two.

But Logan has his own little secrets, a history that weighs down on him, memories that seem to escape him. PYROS tells you where Logan comes from both in the origin of his powers and the source of his troubled mind.

Pyros MUST be read after reading SKIN DEEP because there are major spoilers.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of thus book. I am a big big fan of this author's work so I am always excited at reading one of her books and this novella did not disappoint!

I loved this storyline, seeing the process of a character growing up as it happens instead of as a memory, seeing how he became who he is with all the different people involved in this world. It is written so well and it drags you into this magical, fantasy world that you find that you don't want to leave! I am extremely excited to read the next book in this series to see what else happens in this world!

Login is an extremely exciting character you read about and seeing him grow up. He has a sense of honour about him and the sort of person that will do what he feels is right. He feels very deeply, especially his feelings of guilt no matter how unjustified that is. He becomes somebody who is really protective of those around him and always wants to keep them safe, even if it puts him in danger.

I highly recommend this book to readers, you can't stop reading this book once you start it, its highly addictive!!!

I received a copy of this book at no cost from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This short novella gives the backstory for Logan Westin, one of the main characters in TG Ayer's Skinwalker series. Several of the events here are referenced - but not fleshed out - in the first book of that series, Skin Deep.

The story is good, plot wise, and leaves open several new mysteries for readers to await unveiling in the later series books, but the writing style is kind of choppy. It does a nice job, though, of shining a light on how Logan became the man that he is. For some reason, it's listed as number 0.5 in the series on Goodreads but number 1.5 on Amazon. Whichever is correct, I strongly recommend reading Skin Deep before Pyros, even if you're tempted to try the shorter work first as a kind of test drive, as reading them in the reverse order will spoil some of the surprises in Skin Deep.

It's a nice chunk of information, though, and helps make some of Logan's quirks make more sense.

This novella was an excellent read, and the first book in the series that I've read. It's a great introduction to the character of Logan, telling his back story from age 13 when he comes into his firewielding powers. Whilst it mostly didn't matter that I hadn't read any of the rest of the series before this book - none of the action related to any of the rest - it would be helpful to know who the organisations mentioned were, as it's never really explained and a little confusing (hence the 4*). Otherwise, it's an excellent read, and I really enjoyed it, with great interactions between characters, interesting situations, action, adventure, and relationships. I'm certainly interested in reading more of the series - especially if the samples in the back of the book are anything to go by! - and would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and supernatural books too.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Even though I didn't do it this way, Pyros is best read as a prequel to TG Ayer's Skin Deep (it does work if read 2nd as I did but it takes place 1st in sequence so just works better that way). I loved Skin Deep. One of the several great things about it was following as Kailin Odel slowly learns to trust - and then falls for - Logan Westin. This book is really Logan's back story, telling how he came into his powers and the events that impacted and drive him. It's actually a pretty great story in its own right, and when packaged with Skin Deep it's superb. Alone I'd rank it a 4+. As a package it's definitely a 5 star read. In either case it's highly recommended.

I have been provided with a copy of Pyros by the author for an impartial review. Pyros is a prequel story for Logan Westin who you meet in Skin Deep. I believe you can read this story either before or after Skin Deep it isn’t too confusing either way. I really enjoyed getting to go back and see where Logan started as it made things clearer on why he is the way he is. This was an extremely easy book to read and it was really ended at the right moment because it ends where you first see Logan in Skin Deep and I really appreciated it tying together so nicely.

I'm not really a fan of prequels and origins, but I do love Logan and his origin story was a pleasantly delightful origin that had my full on attention. It was quick read for me and just made me fall even more in love with Logan than I though possible. If you love the world of SkinWalkers , the this is a must read.

Insight into Logan's backstory is the subject of Pyros. While we have been told more of it as the series progressed, here we are witness to the events. It explains much about Logan's controlled demeanor and clarifies the reasons behind the flashes of memory associations that he experiences. A valuable resource in understanding the character and his conflicts. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this novella.

Short background story on Logan Westin, fire mage.

I really like this character, Logan Westin and glad to know his story. Disappointed it was so short and there was not more to it, but happy to see his early years. I'm enjoying this series and looking forward to more of them. I recommend if you enjoyed the first book, Skin Deep. I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an advanced readers copy.

So I read this book before reading book 1 in the Skindeep series. I found it better to read this way, as we get Logan's backstory in this book. This means when you start book 1, Logan's back story is established, leaving more room for the story to develop.
It's a short read, fast paced, and leaves you with a few questions that I hope will be answered as I read the rest of the series. A great start!!

I loved getting this look into Logan's background. This is a short, so there isn't as much action as there are in the full length stories. I would also suggest reading Skin Deep before reading this. The plot hinted at a lot of things to happen in future books. And I think that is awesome because who doesn't love a teaser? I love this series, so all this book did for me was fill in some questions about what makes Logan tick.

Before I got anymore into this series I thought I better read this one . In this one you can walk with Logan from his beginning while the author pulls on your emotions. He also must learn some elements of himself but then you also want to knock some heads yourself for his sake. You come away from this understanding crystal clear with making it most enjoyable better than before.

I loved Logan in Skin Deep and other books ... but now I feel like I understand more about Logan.

He is a young man with demons. This was well written & a joy to read!

I am a new reader to T. G. Ayer and so far so good. This particular book that I volunteered to read was surprisingly darker then what I was use to but it also shows the background origins of the character named Logan and how grisly his upbringing was.

I loved learning Logan's background and the events that shaped his personality. As well as background on some of the other characters. It's a quick read, but well written. I recommend reading this book.

Definitely a great addition to the series. I think it's a prequel, at least it gives major backstory to one of the main characters. So I definitely recommend reading if you'd like to know more about this world. A fun story that deepens the characters and their relationships with one another!

Jess and Logan are part of a group with special powers. They train to go on missions but are controlled somewhat by a higher organization.
It’s unclear what motives they have, that’s what mystifies this book.
It ends rather abrupt, when they’re about to go on another mission.

As an intro to the SkinWalker series, this book was great. I love getting to know the background of characters, and T.G. did a wonderful job of that in this book. In fact, I wish it had been longer! Looking forward to reading the rest of the SkinWalker series!

Wonderful introduction to the characters Logan and Jess. For me, Pyros provided a deeper understanding of Logan which, in turn, makes aspects of the SkinWalker series more clear.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.

Logan the back ground. How he became what he is today. From his childhood to finding his powers and people wanting him. What's the story he can't figure out about his sister? A must read.

This Review was first published on my blog Lecture toute une Aventure

My opinion:
I’m quite confused honestly which can easily happen when we receive contradictory information. As you can see in goodreads’ description “it must be read after Skin Deep”…. However in the newsletter from the author it was written that to keep the reading in order that was to be read before book 1 Skin Deep…. When I got the novella I was really happy and since the author was telling us it has to be read before I believed that goodread must have made a mistake…. Sadly for once I guess goodreads was better informed.
If you want to avoid being confused I can only recommend you to read this after not to start the series with this one.

It’s not that the story isn’t well written, not at all but first it’s short and second it leads to too many question, I didn’t feel like anything was resolved in this one, there was no closure at all. You learn more about Logan true I mean you get part of his background which is interesting but if you haven’t read anything else you can’t compare and it’s not working that well as a stand alone.
Also I was really confused by the beginning I’m not sure if it’s his memories or the story itself because of what he see and remember it didn’t sound that logical to me with what happens next.

Also I found it quite hard to see who were the good and the bad ones I mean yes omega took him in but making young children like that work how they do and the treatment they give them…it makes me wonder if the nemesis “the sentinel” wouldn’t be better after all we only get one point of view. We see another group but once again the motivations are not clear. Each group seems to have good people in it though and I would want to know more. Jessamy sound quite protective, Mik the weather mage is quite the diplomatic one oh they are other we hate right away like Gunther and Brett but perhaps they have their reasons?

All put together it’s a interesting reads but I feel I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had more background thanks to the reading of Skin Deep so I do hope you get to read this if you love the genre or are a fan of the author but I do recommend you to start Skin Deep first.
