This was such a delightful read! The story flowed beautifully, with engaging characters, witty banter, and a refreshing lack of the dreaded third-act breakup.

The chemistry between the FMC and MMC was off the charts, making every interaction a joy to read.

Their dynamic felt natural and fun, filled with playful teasing and heartfelt moments that kept me hooked from start to finish. It was everything I wanted—a well-paced, feel-good romance that left me smiling. A definite five-star read!

This novella is a delightful read, finished it in one sitting. The relatable characters and plot drew me in. I appreciate how this book portrayed a successful 36-year-old woman finding love on her own terms. She didn't allow herself to settle for just any man.

Vincent and Yemisi's interactions had me giggling, and their first intimate encounter? Hot! But beyond the physical attraction, I love how Vincent treats Yemisi. He is thoughtful, supportive and understanding. I love that they both felt safe with each other to be vulnerable. Even though Vincent is four years younger than Yemisi, he's mature and a true gentleman.

I'm crossing my fingers that Amaka Azie will write a sequel. I'm completely invested in Yemisi and Vincent's story, and I wish to see what happens next for them. I highly recommend this novella to anyone looking for a quick, heartwarming, and relatable love story.

This book was a Valentine’s gift from the author, Amaka Azie, and I blushed so hard when it arrived!

The story follows Yemi, who, after six years of dating, takes a bold step and proposes to her boyfriend—only to be harshly rejected. At that very moment, Vincent, who happens to be dining at the same restaurant with his sister and her fiancé, witnesses the whole scene. Fate intervenes when Yemi unexpectedly lands a job at Vincent’s hospital, and from there, their journey begins.

I honestly loved this novella!
First, because Vincent called her princess—I mean, come on!
Second, because I enjoy reading love stories about people in their 30s.

Did I cringe when she proposed? Absolutely.
This is something I always think about—does it seem old-fashioned that I don’t believe in women proposing to men? What do you guys think?

Overall, Unexpected Love is a heartwarming and enjoyable read!

A proposal gone wrong becomes the catalyst for a new beginning for Yemisi. Well, sort of, because her new boss not only knows about the humiliating proposal that altered her life in Enugu, he was present to witness it.
While this might be embarrassing for her, it's a blessing in disguise for Vincent Mba who is very much intrigued by her and now, Yemisi Okeke stands at the threshold of an unexpected love story.

Unexpected Love is fast-paced, light-hearted and fluffy. My favourite part of the book are the monologues. Through them, I witnessed Yemisi's fears and uncertainties. Her inner turmoil as she navigates the aftermath of her failed proposal and the trepidation of falling for her boss.
On the other hand, Vincent's patience and understanding in pursuing Yemisi was endearing.

Amaka Azie's writing drew me into the characters' heads making me feel their emotions with them. I understood the pain Yemisi felt from her last relationship and the fear of getting into a new one, with her boss. I empathized with Vincent's need to convince Yemisi that she was his forever.

Unexpected Love is a heartwarming exploration of love, vulnerability, and second chances. Without feeling rushed or incomplete, it is a perfect recipe for anyone seeking an easy and quick read.

I felt like the book was too short to give an honest review of my feelings toward the main characters.

It also needed more depth—there were so many issues that could have been explored further, which would have made the story even more compelling.

The real-life references (like Naomi Campbell) and the way Yemi's mum kept setting her up with awful men just for the sake of marriage—especially coming from a woman who married for love—only made things more frustrating.

Overall, not great, but not terrible either.

This is a short novella about a love story between Yemi Okeke and Vincent Mba from two different worlds that met under unexpected circumstances. Yemi, a successful orthopaedic medical doctor, has been in a long relationship with her boyfriend, and he is still yet to propose, but this takes an unexpected turn as she is left humiliated and heartbroken 💔 😥.
But true love ❤️ finds its way into semi's life again. Will she give love a chance again after everything?

This was such a lighthearted and breezy read. I personally appreciate stories that don't drag, and this one was refreshingly concise. Despite its brevity, it effectively highlighted the stereotypes faced by female surgeons in Nigeria. I also enjoyed the witty banter between the female and male main characters.

This book, though short, has my heart.

Love the characters and how they communicated properly. Although it was short the author manages to bring to mind the the stereotype faced by female surgeons and the pressures faced by unmarried women in their thirties.

I recommend!

I'm a fan of Ms. Amaka Azie. I love her stories because they're interesting, engaging, and well detailed, I mean the spice... Ms. Amaka Azie is good at giving detailed descriptions, the one that leaves you with a mental imagery of what you're reading. I'd really love to see a movie adaptation for any of her stories. Take your flowers, ma! 💐

I have to commend Yemi for taking such bold step in proposing to a man. I felt her humiliation, fr! But, you sef, why would you think of such and even going as far as acting it out, oh boy! I was lost for words. But, what's the point of a romance story if a happily ever after isn't guaranteed? I was happy that Yemi found love at the end and this love thing ehh, so unpredictable, fr!

I love Vincent (Vin) too. Great guy! 👍 I love how he was so focused and attentive to Yemi. Like their chemistry is real. His behaviour also attest to the claim that, "Age is just a number." He's so mature and I love how he was able to stand up to his mother. Na man you be, Vincent Mba! 🤭

In conclusion, this story was an interesting one and I can't wait for Ms. Amaka to transition it to a whole novel. I highly recommend this story to lovers of romance and anyone looking for a quick read! ❤️

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Dr. Yemi’s journey is a perfect reflection of this verse—what seemed like heartbreak was actually God redirecting her to something better.

For every disappointment, there’s always a blessing. Unexpected Love tells the story of Dr. Yemi, who, after six years in a relationship, publicly proposes to her fiancé—only to face humiliation. But where one love story ends, another begins. She finds love in the very place she was rejected. Truly, God’s ways are mysterious. Sometimes, we hold on too tightly to what we think is meant for us, forgetting that letting go can lead us to something even better.

I absolutely loved the relationship between Dr. Yemi and Vincent. It felt so natural, so right, and incredibly sweet—like they were the missing pieces in each other’s lives. Since this book is a novella, it’s a short read, yet it was easy to immerse myself in the characters. I also appreciated that the story didn’t drag at all.

I’m rating this book 4 stars based on my reading experience. I had a great time reading it❤

I highly recommend Unexpected Love to romance lovers looking for a quick, romantic read. ❤
