Stranded. Betrayed. But not defeated.Jane’s conquest of Arcadia’s eastern realm was swift—until betrayal shattered her careful plans, leaving her banished in the desolate depths of the Netherrealm, the perilous home of demons.
Alone and cut off from her allies, she must navigate a world where survival is a brutal game of predator and prey. Meanwhile, her army teeters on the brink of collapse, leaderless without a Legendary class holder to command it.
Pushed to her limits, Jane embraces new powers and faces unimaginable horrors. In the Netherrealm, it’s eat or be eaten.
But after everything she’s endured… who is the true apex predator in this blasted hellscape?
About the Judicator Jane is an isekai (portal fantasy) LitRPG set in an expansive universe rich with history. The forces of good and evil stand at the precipice of apocalypse. Will Jane find the answers she seeks? Or will the unforgiving world, harsh trials, and the burden of carrying a horrific power corrupt her innocent spirit?
Brian Rouleau writes books, makes games, and enjoys visiting bakeries. He is the husband of an amazing wife and a father to a daughter who is far more creative than he is.
Five books in, and I expect some amount of character growth. There is none. Just the same naivety, that is getting old. Wasn't a fan of how book four ended, but it gave possibilities. This one did nothing with it and acted as an empty filler. The ending was very obvious, and the entire thing was incredibly boring.
After Book 4 left me on the fence about the series, I’m so glad I stuck around for #5. Brian Rouleau absolutely yanked me back in with a rich, interesting story that had me fully invested in the fates of my favorite characters again.
Jane spends almost the entire book in the Netherrealm - a basically featureless wasteland of demons, bottomless holes, gray nutrient sludge, and deadly flying snakes that Rouleau still somehow manages to make into a surprisingly layered and compelling storyline. Yes, her quest to bind every single demon does get a bit repetitive, but it’s easy to forgive when you meet absolute icons like Taltorius the Devourer. Seriously, what a delightful menace.
As for Pogg…I don’t have words that are polite enough for Goodreads. His holier-than-thou attitude was unbearable. The refusal to listen to reason, the inability to see how his own actions completely contradicting everything he claims to stand for - it was infuriating. I was very satisfied to watch him get his just desserts curb-stomped right into his face by the end.
On the brighter side, Mint and Gral’gor both get way more page time and deeper storylines, and I’m thrilled about it. We’ve only scratched the surface of what these two can do. This book was exactly the revitalization the series needed. I’m fully back on board and genuinely excited to see where Rouleau takes things next.
You know, in a couple of weeks or so from now I'll be 56. I stumbled onto this series entirely by accident. When I started to read the first book I knew I was going to be hooked! This series has a D&D feel to it and it brought me back to my high school days in the 1980's. I just finished the latest book which I read in a day, it's been like that for the entire series for me. I'm already getting excited for the next installment. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this series. Thanks for a wonderful story so far!
Ohhhh myyy! I wasn’t sure about the book, I wasn’t sure I would end up liking it, because I was still mad about the ending of the last book! It took me a little over a 100 pages before my mad ended... and boy the anger collapsed hard! As Jane found her Demons and went about converting more to her side! With a plan on how to leave the prison moon Pogg had banished her to! Don't think for a minute that Pogg or her Demons planetside have stopped fighting either! Just go grab the book and find out for yourself what happens!
Here's a couple of quotes:
"Why not savor the exotic delights of... Nutrimuck!"
"...embark on your very own culinary muck-venture today! Bon appétit!"
"Maevlor’s version of nurturing was more like, “Go hug that monster... with your fists!"
There is a theme to this series of novels which is not apparent in the first novel but is blatantly obvious and powerfully illustrated in this novel. The theme is the danger of allowing confirmation bias to shape one's opinions, actions and behaviours — and the poster child for confirmation bias run amok is: Well, read and find out, though most readers will have a good idea who it is.
The novels of this series continue to be interesting and engaging reads for those who enjoy the Fantasy genre in general and the LitRPG subgenre in particular.
Such an amazing rollercoaster died of emotions, battles, character development, comedy and above all an extremely awesome main character. Book six can't get here soon enough!
The growth of Jane into an incredible heroin is just so well written. Impossible to put down, yet you don't want to finish because you're stuck waiting for the next book to be released. Hard pressed to find another series that is so captivating.
I'm still reading and want to know more, but what i really want to know is what the system is and why is Jane there. Give me a break and at least a bit more. Please, pretty please.
I have never really been fond of Pogg. But now... he can suck it! Delusions of grandeur anyone?! I cant wait for Jane to come back, I hope she strips him of his class and stats.
Jane gets banished to the NetherRealm, and learns more about the demons. Meanwhile her demons in Alfar have problems with the forces of light. Exciting tale.
