Expected Publication May 2025

HEX
Having a crush sucks. Harboring one on your dad’s stuck-up best friend, who is the grumpy Chief Security Officer of the Akiyama Group, is a nightmare.
But hey—I’m Sudo Hex, Japan’s number one genius hacker. He can play hard-to-get all he wants, but I don’t give up easily.
The luxury cruise where billionaires and corrupt politicians are gathering because of their nasty new drug will be my playground, right before we crash their party and stop their evil plans.
Forced proximity? Check.
A mystery we have to solve together? Check.
An opportunity for me to show him how reliable and responsible I am despite our age difference? Check.
Potentially dangerous situations that he has to save me from? Check, check, check.
I’ll make this mission a success, and my reward is walking away with a boyfriend.

ARAN
I should’ve never agreed to take Hex with me on this cruise. My mission is my priority and with the stakes as high as they are, a distraction is the last thing I need.
Especially one as stubborn and charming as him.
As an executive at a mafia organization, failure isn’t an option for me. But my duties aren’t the only thing hanging over my head. Years ago, I made a promise to my best friend who died in the line of duty—no matter what, I would watch over the son he left behind.
I’ve done my best, but the little shit just won’t leave me alone. He’s no longer a kid either, but he still professes his love for me every chance that he gets. I’ve shut him down countless times, yet he never gives up.
It’s annoying, exhausting too. There is no ‘we’ in the picture.
And yet, no matter what crazy things he asks of me, I just can’t find it in me to say no.

This dad's best friend MM romcom features VIP cruise shenanigans, mystery, action, a dose of ridiculousness, possessiveness, age gap (not the focus), slow burn, a stuck-up CSO who's hellbent on denying himself what he wants, and the stuborn hacker who won't give up until he snags himself his dream man. It's Book 3 of the Mobster Mayhem series and can be read as a standalone.

This book is promising a lot in its blurb but will it deliver?

Some powerful big shots, who are directly involved in some changing the world and not in a good way shit are meeting on a secret cruise ship.

I think it’s a brainwashing drug?

Aran - Chief Security Officer of the Akiyama Group— but currently under cover to stop the bad guys.

Hex/ Tien - the legendary Sudo Hex, Japan’s most capable gray hat hacker.

Hex is also one of the good guys on the cruise, the son of Aran’s deceased best friend. He used his hacker skill to be in the same cabin as Aran.

‘I love having his eyes on me—they should stay there permanently. And his hands should follow suit, like yesterday.’

Ok yeah it’s some brain control drug.

Hex is reminding himself the mission is the priority.

‘Stop the bad guys and their drug first, then the sexiest man on Earth will be your reward. You got this.’

Hex meets Mr. and Mrs. Lynx, who invite him to dinner on the off limits deck. This couple is shady and probably want a threesome with him.

At the dinner, Hex finds a bartender who looks like a younger Aran-lookalike with clearances for the off-limits areas.

Aran is trying to discuss the dinner with Hex.

‘If I had known my best friend’s son would become the one man who can turn my world on its axis, I would have removed myself from the picture ages ago.’

Hex comes up with a crazy plan.

He also disassembles the couch in the hopes of forcing Aran to share a bed. 🤣 It doesn’t work.

Arab tries to get intel from a waitress which makes Hex jealous.

Not Aran is called Mong. Hex drags Mong off to a waterslide , making Aran jealous.

Aran decides he needs to fight for what his heart wants - which is Hex.

Mong is now unconscious, thanks to jealous Aran.

Another crazy plan executed.

Aran and Hex have their first kiss but can’t get distracted from the mission.

Hex is off to Games Night with the Lynxes. Aran is pretending to be Mong, serving alcohol and food.

Hex gets invited to a private party by Mrs Lynx. He’s a little naïve to be honest, when it comes to this couple, but he’s catching on.

There’s some sexy times with Aran.

They tell Mong they are CIA agents and he also think Hex and Aran are fiancée’s.

Adventure, intrigue, sexy shenanigans.

‘Because, if I am being honest, I’m ready to go home, close this chapter of my life, and make things between me and Aran legally binding.’

Another VIP party. Mr and Mrs Lynx lock Hex away to do bad bad things to him. But Aran smashes through the door!

Apparently the bad people think the government works for them and they just pull the strings.

“First, you are an evil bitch. You don’t just drug people and make them your pets. I’m not even into that stuff. Unless Aran asked me super nicely. I’d be into anything then.”

Death. Secret labs on the cruise ship. Testing grounds for human experiments. Someone issues a fatal drone strike on the ship.

Hex and Aran survive.

‘He’s so lovely, so desperate to stake his claim on me. To hear those words he should’ve heard years ago. “I love you, Tien. I always have. You are my world, and I am done trying to run away from you. You have my heart, my soul, my everything, so please, let me have you in turn?” “Yes. Aran, I love you so fucking much. You are mine, forever. No one else can have you.”

ARC review

This book was so good, and funny, and sweet, and possessive and everything good.
Hex was a little diabolical ball of energy and spice, he wanted and loved Aran, had his whole life and they would be together forever, he just had to wear down Aran first.
Aran had been resisting his feelings for years and it was simply time to stop. Why fight what they felt when it was so right?
I loved them, they complemented each other so perfectly

Who Said Execs Couldn’t Be HEXed? is the third book in the Mobster Mayhem series. This book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the rest of the series. This is the story of Hex(Sudo Hex) a genius hacker and Aran Chief Security Officer of the Akiyama Group. I love these two so much. I love the series and the world building and characters that J.F. Miev and Aria Clark have created. I love the twisted humor of the series. I hope we get more books in this series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

I was so excited for Hex’s story!! Sassy brats will always be my kryptonite and Hex was definitely that, with a heavy dose of chaos as well. I loved every adventurous moment he had with Aran, even when he had me ready to reach through my kindle to slap him for being so ridiculous. His energy was endless and he truly didn’t know how to take no for an answer. Poor Aran didn’t stand a chance at resisting him!!

Hex’s big brain was a critical necessity to their mission, but he often found himself in situations that still required Aran’s muscle (probably because Hex couldn’t follow instructions to save his life). While working together, Hex relentlessly shoots his shot at his long time love (Aran). But Aran, attempting to be the honorable man that he is, desperately wants tries to resist. I’m sure everyone can guess at how successful he was (not) lol.

This story is supposed to be a lighthearted, action movie-esque romp across the high seas. I get that this is the intention of the author. Unfortunately, issues make it difficult for me to immerse myself in either the action or the romance.

The Main Characters

Hex

Hex is a computer genius whose hacking skills have elevated him to move in questionable circles as the top of his class. He’s childish and naïve, frankly. He’s described as a 24 year old but he acts so much younger. He’s sexually innocent, to the extreme. He has his first kiss with Aran. His characterization is questionable for what he does as a hacker and who he works with. A kid so naive would be eaten alive in the criminal underworld.

Aran

Aran is a former military guy who shifted to security work once he retired. The story did not clearly explain how Aran justifies working for the mob. He’s stoic and older, and dead set against being in a relationship with Hex. For good reason, something we’ll get to in a bit.

The Relationship

Hex is convinced they’re meant to be. Aran isn’t quite as sure about this. He’s been resisting Hex’s wiles for quite some time. Especially considering the fact that…

Aran Raised Hex? Wait, What?

Aran made a promise to Hex’s father that he’d look after Hex. He essentially raised Hex from his teens. To me, that makes Aran getting involved with Hex as an adult dubiously moral. In any real-life situation, I believe that it’d be a non-starter.

In fact, young people adopted in adolescence sometimes struggle with attachment issues. One way these issues manifest is a misinterpretation of their feelings of affection toward their adoptive guardians as something sexual. These youth need extensive therapy to work through these feelings. Knowing this about real-life attachment disorders, Hex constantly pressuring Aran to get into an intimate relationship with him is frankly strange and inappropriate.

But this book doesn’t try to make anything very realistic so I suppose I can suspend disbelief for this. But just know that if you’re at all triggered by things of this sensitive nature, tread carefully for this story.

Glows

Minority Rep

I enjoyed that this story is set in Asia and features characters who are Asian. There aren’t enough books that feature non-white characters so I appreciate that this book has minority representation.

Below Deck Setting

I enjoyed the cruise-line setting and how the high-seas locale makes the mystery more in your face. Someone disappears? They have to be stashed somewhere on the boat! So Hex and Aran have that immediate need to do something about it. I liked the descriptions of the absolute luxury of the ship, and especially the secrets and the mysterious hidden locations.

Interesting Characters

I found the villains to be some of the best written characters in the story. Mysterious, worldly and ultra-rich cruise passengers who want to control the world? Heck yes. They were interesting, sinister and creepy. Perfect villains. It almost made me upset when the story was over. Not really. They were after world domination in the worst sort of way. I didn’t want to side with them or anything, they were downright dirty. But regardless of that, the villains were super well written.

Grows

Ageism: 40 is absolutely NOT past one’s prime

Ugh there were several times when the author referred to someone past 40 as being ‘past their prime’ and um no thank you very much. That’s ageist.

Aran Calls Hex an Airhead. Not Cool, Man

Aran works himself into knots justifying why he shouldn’t be with Hex, even though we know he eventually gives in. Take away the fact that Aran raised Hex from his teens, he could have also examined the fact that he doesn’t respect Hex as a person. He calls him an airhead. A partner shouldn’t call the person they love an airhead. That’s mean. It further proves how ill-suited they are for one another.

Unrealistic Action Sequences

Page 275 / Location 3097:

“He yanks the weapon from me and vaults over the furniture, shooting both guns at the same time as he charges at our enemy.”

Wait what? Why would Aran jump out from cover to rush at the people shooting at him. That’s something that might play out in a fight scene in a dumb action flick but in the real world? No way. That would be a sure-fire way to get shot.

No one with formal military training who actively works in security would do that. And Aran definitely wouldn’t shoot two guns at a time. I’m not into shooting at ALL but even I know that is some Hollywood stuff that doesn’t work like that in real life.

Credibility: Hex is a hacker??

First off, I have to get this off my chest. I disliked Hex’s character. Hex’s is childish to an extreme. His personification doesn’t vibe with someone who is working for mafia-sorts. His vibe definitely doesn’t mesh with someone who is a hacker. It just doesn’t. He’s child-like and naive. Innocent.

What’s more, he doesn’t act like someone in a mafia story. It’s almost like two stories are going on at the same time. His dialogue and his behavior detract from the overall plot of the story. There are so many instances Hex does or says something so out of pocket that it completely breaks the immersion of the story.

If he and Aran were infiltrating a high-level conspiracy ring with a mind-control drug, Hex acting like he does would get them instantly exposed. And he would not act like getting with Aran is the only thing on his mind. Frankly, no mob boss would allow someone like that to go on a mission like this. I KNOW IT’S FICTION. But oh man, I am STRUGGLING to suspend disbelief here.

This is a Mob Story?

Who Said… is light on the normal mafia tropes, to be honest. The big bad the MCs fight are world leaders. The MCs seem like the good guys. They could be working for a government instead of the mob, for all the mob elements are absent. If it weren’t part of a series called Mobster Mayhem, this story might work better rebranded as a spy story. But it’s not, it’s a mobster story. The entire story takes place on a cruise ship. And neither Aran nor Hex are mobsters. Those two elements may contribute to it seeming less like a mobster story and more like something else.

Overall

I think this is a story that a lot of people will like. It’s got action elements. It’s got mystery. It’s got romance. I can recommend it for that. But I personally struggled with a lot of the details. Maybe it’s not that serious. But I struggled. And I am an honest reviewer so I am leaving an honest review.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The secret (not so secret) feelings, the push and pull, the sexual tension, the protectiveness, the fluffiness, the history and the future. It was all SO good!

I loved and hated that you didn't know who to trust (besides our men). It was fun and trippy and just enough mystery to add the perfect amount of tension to an already tense series. The romance (which we all saw coming from book one in the series) was just a perfect little cherry and a bow and just the star of the show. It was a well balanced book all around.

Trigger Warnings: mentions of death of parents, violence, mafia/conspiracy, mild & not too graphically explicit human trafficking & experiments (setting), abuse of power, sexual predators (evil side chars), and more.

What could possibly be better then being shacked up with your love interest in a tiny cabin on a VERY high stakes mission? We finally get a taste of the (sad lol) flirting from Hex to the stoic and robust CSO that we have all come to know throughout the series.

We dive deeper into the relationship between Hex & Aran and the history they share by way of Hex's father. This is a dad's best friend rather hesitant romance. Hex is all that is light, colorful, sweet and charmingly odd in the world in the eyes if Aran. This leaves us with a taste of the possessive, protective and guard dog almost obsession between Aran and Hex.

This high stakes mission aboard a VIP cruise really helps push these two together in a nice and spicy way. Hex is a constant flirt ( although terrible at it from the outside) that is badgering at Aran's control. The right amount of pressure and the Stoic CSO snaps.

Between the high tension from their mission and their obvious lust, a lot comes out in the mission when it comes to the drug they are there to research and hopefully stop.
This plot has built for over 3 books and ends with a *BaNg*.

With a lot of twists, turns and implied nuances for what is happening in/around the ship, this couple stops at nothing to achieve their goal. Not only for their safety, but for the Akiyama group to hopeful end the destructive nature of the drug they are searching for.

From worming their way into the clutches of the enemy, tight quarters and some top of the line hacking- these two really ended the story in a morally grey and destructive way.

For these idiots in love, nothing would stand in their way. I just imagine them staring dopily at each other while the cruise ship burns down behind them (truth).
This book spans from the US-Japan- and finally the ocean. uncovering new truths about the situation the world would have been in, had they not tried to stop the villains.

Overall, this was a great book for me personally. With the cameos from previous characters, new friends added to the roster and the the dopey love between Hex and Aran- *sigh* it was perfect. It gave action when it really needed it, fight scenes to heighten the plot and someone primally and claiming their man (finally)!

It took me a long time to get into this book, partly because of Aran’s angst over his desire for Hex versus all the reasons he shouldn’t lust after him. But Hex was VERY persistent and knew exactly what he wanted, so while Aran was trying to keep them on the mission, Hex was wearing down his defenses. Things picked up in the second half when they got involved with Mr and Mrs Lynx and met Mong, as the plot started to thicken, and it just ramped up from there. The tension quickly increased and more things became clear in a short timespan, reaching a satisfactory conclusion that had the bad guys losing big time and in spectacular fashion. Aran and Hex for the win!

Hex is an interesting quirky character, pretty clueless about reading people, especially when someone comes on to him. He looks at things simply and always thinks the best of people, but he does pay attention to his inner feelings when the vibes are really off and his self-preservation kicked in. He is a computer genius and hacker, which held them in good stead and helped save the mission.

Aran is dedicated to Hex, having taken him under his care when his father died. He is attracted to Hex, but has these hangups about age and responsibility to his friend which pull him in opposite directions. He is former military, a trained assassin and an excellent body guard. He is meticulous in his planning of missions, and has problems with Hex getting too involved in ways other than the hacking, concerned about his safety and putting him in harm’s way, but at times Hex takes the bit in his teeth and gets himself more involved than Aran is comfortable with, causing changes in plans.

I would have loved to see a diagram of the cruise ship as it was hard to imagine all the hidden places on this ship that had exclusive access. Having only been on a smaller cruise ship, it was harder for me to wrap my head around that part of the book, but I could see it as possible on one of the mega-size ships. Just an interesting point to me.

I did enjoy the book once I got deeper into it and the pace picked up, and would recommend it to those who like quirky characters with a mystery thrown in with the romance. I did receive an advance copy and this is my voluntary review.

This book was really good. It kept you guessing and wanting to know what was going to happen. Hex and Aran were also so funny in moments.

Hex has a crush on Aran and even though Aran was there for him after his father passed, he didn't take that as a parent figure, he knew Aran before his father passed away. He couldn't help the biggest crush he has on Aran but it never went away. When he has a chance to go on mission with Aran, he is going as it's the perfect time for him to get to spend some time with Aran without anyone else around. He knows that they are going there to uncover what they are hoping to be the drug that everyone is trying to create but he still believes he has time for Aran to see him and not as a kid.

Aran is the CFO to the Mafia organization and doesn't have time for Hex the hacker. He holds onto the promise he made to his best friend of making sure the Hex is taking care of if he was ever to pass. He wants to keep his promise but doesn't want to go against his friend and feels that would be a betrayal even though he isn't around any longer. Aran will protect Hex at all cost while trying to discover what is going on inside the cruise ship. He doesn't expect Hex to pull anything but he also can't help that he allows his feelings to come into play with Hex at certain moments.

Aran & Hex have a lot to discuss but also it needs to happen. These two are meant for each other even if Aran can't see it at first. Hex is such full of energy but also gets his feelings hurt to many times.

I really enjoyed this story and loved how it all came together. These two make such a great story and just really getting to see how they expand and finally deciding what is right.

I received an ARC through GRR and this is my honest review.

4⭐️ 2🌶️
MOOD: adventurous, funny, dark
TROPES: age gap, slow burn, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, dad's best friend (off page)
GENRES: contemporary, action romance, lgbtq+ / mm romance
FAV QUOTE: Saengtien Thanan is-and has been, for as long as I can remember-my everything.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Aran Suwannarat and Sudo Hex (or Saengtien "Tien"Thanan)

THE GOOD: Finally get to learn more about Aran and Hex's background and relationship or lack thereof at the start. There is a fair amount of struggle on Aran's side with the expansion of their relationship but Hex is all in and thinks that an undercover mission is a good time and place for that to occur. The age game and forced proximity are not the focus of the relationship but since they are stuck on a cruise ship there are no cameos from the characters from previous books. Overall, it's a good continuation of the overarching plot of the series. The writing, as always, is good but since some of the characters and subject matter is uncomfortable that means it can be uncomfortable at times.
THE NEUTRAL: For the amount of times Hex says something along the lines "psycho possessive Daddy" the intimate scenes are tame. It could be because it's been a while since I read the first two books, but it felt like there were more innocent bystanders/casualties in this one—not just the classic dead parents and henchmen.
THE MEH: Not my favorite of the trilogy. After two books of have Aran and Hex popping in, I was kind of hoping for a little bit more in their romance story.

CW: [Provided by the author]violence, mentions of death of parents, explicit sexual content, human trafficking & experiments, abuse of power, sexual predators (side characters)
DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy. This is my honest review.

Troublemaker Trio

Who Said Execs Couldn’t Be [HEX]ed?
Mobster Mayhem 3
J.F. Miev, Aria Clark

Aran, Chief Security Officer of the Akiyama Group is reeealllly irritated by Sudo Hex, Japan's number one gray hat hacker, and his deceased-best-friend's son.
Unfortunately the Akiyama Group needs his help, so he's undercover for two weeks on a cruise because of a drug that could change the balance of power in the world.
Since his best friend passed away leaving young Tien (Hex) alone, Aran has looked after him, even now he's an exasperating adult who filrts with him shamelessly.
Unfortunately he's needed in person on the two week cruise as they go undercover as members of staff.
In the midst of the investigation, dodging Hex's puppy eyes, innocence and ridiculous sense of humour, Aran is struggling to deny his feelings. Especially when Hex gets involved further by getting invited to parties by Mr and Mrs Lynx.
The darkness Aran tries to keep at bay comes out when Hex is threatened.
They end befriending a guard who looks like Aran, Mong, who gets involved in the hunt for evidence and PA Eleanor.
But Hex is skilled at making friends everywhere he goes.
It's no surprise he becomes part of a trio of troublemakers along with the other 'boyfriends' Leo and Matt. They remind me a little of the Vitale's WAGs from the mobster series by Brea Alepou
and Skyler Snow.
Like that series, this rapidly growing found family is full of fun, laughter and love.
Plus of course violence, blood and spice.
I really enjoyed this one as the Hex and Aran story has been teased in the last two books, but I'd like to see the ultimate Mafia Daddy plus Mong get their own stories too.
Another fun book.

This entire series has been the funnest fucking mess. It slaps down the gauntlet on clichéd tropes and plots, but twists them up enough to make them the best kind of adventure that hits on all those dark romance vibes without the heavy angst AND gives comfort read energy for days whilst doing it. You’re in on the joke, and it’s giving. The classics are classics for a reason, and you don’t have to suffer for the pleasure.

I will always be here for that. It’s fun and unserious. And I liked this one way more than I thought I would. I won’t lie, some just were not my (personal) favourite tropes, but I am INVESTED as the fuck, and I snapped up the chance to read the third installment early because I am impatient and I needed the happy chemicals.

And while I didn’t vibe with a few things here and there, I enjoyed the story. I loved the characters even when I wanted to gently holler some sense into their little silly goose brains. I loved Mong. I wished for more in places and less in others on the details/depth front. I got a little confused at some of the word/phrasing choices. I’m not sure if ‘dependence’ was supposed to be ‘independence’ or not… anyhow.

It was good soup. I enjoyed it for the good time it gave me and I really hope there’s at least a little short or something for Mong. He deserves that. He was a Very Good Noodle.

4.25/5. I hope this wasn’t the end, but if it was, it was a hell of a ride and I had a blast on the journey.

Chaotic twink meets grumpy security exec, and it’s as hilarious, horny, and heartwarming as it sounds.

Who Said Execs Couldn't Be [Hex]ed is a fun, low-spice, slow-burn romance with just the right mix of pining, danger, and sass. Hex is an unhinged little hacker menace—obsessed, dramatic, and absolutely convinced Aran is his future husband. Aran? He's the serious, brooding chief of security… and his best friend's son is definitely off-limits. Except... not really.

The plot—undercover cruise mission, mind control drugs, villains who aren’t exactly masterminds—is a bit over-the-top, and yes, Aran's disguise is kind of ridiculous (Clark Kent glasses energy). But honestly? You’re here for the tension, the yearning, the bratty flirting, and the slow, slow burn that finally explodes into possessive, emotional heat.

The romance builds beautifully—awkward, angsty, and full of longing—and when it finally clicks? It’s intense and so satisfying. Hex never doubts what he wants, and watching Aran go from denial to full-on smitten is a joy.

It starts a bit slow, but once things pick up (around the 80% mark), it’s nonstop action, tension, and mutual devotion. Bonus points for lovable side characters and forced proximity on a crime-fighting cruise ship.

You can read this standalone (I did), but now I’m absolutely going back for the rest of the Mobster Mayhem series. Bring on more chaos and kisses, please.

I’ve been a fan of J.F. Miev’s writing for a while now, and Who Said Execs Couldn't Be HEXed? is yet another fantastic example of their ability to weave fast-paced action, clever humor, and romantic tension into one compelling story. This book is a delightful blend of espionage, chaos, and emotional depth that completely pulled me in.

The dynamic between Aran and Hex is what really made the story shine for me. Aran, loyal to the promise he made to Hex’s father, is steady, dependable, and deeply swoon-worthy. His quiet strength contrasts beautifully with Hex’s bold, bratty energy. And Hex—what a character! I loved watching him step into unfamiliar roles, especially when he takes on the mission despite his discomfort in social settings. His attempts to befriend enemies and navigate high-stakes situations on a cruise liner filled with conspiracies were both endearing and impressive.

The plot is well-balanced, with enough intrigue and spy-thriller elements to keep the tension alive, while never losing focus on the heart of the story: the growing connection between two very different men. It’s rare for me to love both main characters equally, but in this case, Aran and Hex were so well-written and nuanced, they felt like two sides of a perfect coin.

If you’re looking for a fun, exciting, and romantic MM read with espionage, and strong emotional undercurrents, I absolutely recommend this book. A strong, standout read from a consistently excellent author.

Throughout this series, you could see the power Hex had over Aran, he could get away with a lot. Aran head of security and Hex hacker extraordinaire are undercover to find out more about the mystery drug. It should be easy spend two weeks together on a cruise, get the info, get out. But what Aran didn't count on was Hex going all out to get his man.
This was the story I had been waiting for I was wanted to know what their backstory was, how did Aran and Hex know each other and I was not disappointed. Hex had me laughing with some of his antics to get Aran in his bed and Aran's stubbornness was to be applauded. But when Aran could not resist anymore they were so good together. I did give a little cheer when it finally happened.
This story had it all not just romance, it had action and mystery as there was the investigation of the drug too. This highlighted just how good they both were with their skills. Hex is an amazing hacker and you can see why Aran is in the position he is in the organisation.
This book had me hooked from page one and having it set in one location, showcases how good the writing is as there is only so many locations they can go and a shoutout to Mong what a great character he was.
I am looking forward to what next the author writes

Who Said Execs Couldn't Be [Hex]ed is the third book in Miev's Mobster Mayhem series. It can be read as a standalone, but this series is so fun and entertaining that I recommend reading them all. I'm not usually the biggest fan of the mafia/mob trope, but this series has been quite the exception. I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Hex and Aran are fantastic MCs with great chemistry. Hex is funny, ridiculous, over the top, a bit awkward and naive, and completely charming. His dialogue and internal monologues had me chuckling and wondering what he would do next from beginning to end. Aran is generally more serious and professional, but Hex manages to bring out a softer, freer side of him. I loved seeing their romantic relationship grow as Hex's determination to get his man finally made Aran accept the inevitable.

Some of the internal monologues from the MCs (especially Aran) did seem a little repetitive on a couple of occasions, and the ending seemed a bit rushed to me. I'm deducting half a star for those, giving it 4.5/5. It was a wonderful addition to the series, and I'm hoping to see more of Mong in a future entry.

I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
3.7*
Fun romance plot with forbidden love, jealousy, possessiveness, and an adorable unhinged twink. Hex is obsessed, over the top, chaotic, and hilarious. He kept me laughing and turning the pages. Aran is methodical and cautious as he makes his way through an angsty slow burn. When things finally click into place for Aran, he’s fiery and possessive. While there are only a few sex scenes, they are intense, emotional, and well-done. Really enjoyed these two and their quirky affection for each other.

As in book 2, the conspiracy plot didn’t keep my attention. It’s slow-going and the nefarious scheme itself is hard to believe. The MCs take a lot of chances and the villains, ultimately, aren’t that smart. I didn’t really buy Aran posing as a different member of staff half his age and fooling all the important characters so completely. It felt a bit like *unnamed superhero* putting on glasses and being *disguised.*

The ending is action-packed and suspenseful as Aran and Hex fight their way through the bad guys. They are pretty amazing together and it’s a fun journey to get there with them.

Third in series (Mobster Mayhem), can be read as a standalone but might be better if read in order. Age gap. Father’s best friend. Forced proximity. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Hex is a young hacker that knows what he wants and he hopes their current undercover mission will give him a chance to convince his future husband that they are meant to be together. Chief Security Officer Aran has always looked out for his best friend’s son, but he’s far too old and serious for Hex, even though he can’t imagine Hex with someone else.

This story was an enjoyable romp as Hex continues to tempt and Aran struggles with his self-denial as they are both in a risky and dangerous position trying to take down the bad guys. I enjoyed that Hex knew his own mind and heart, never giving up on his desire to be with Aran, and that it was clear that Aran had struggled with his attraction to Hex for years before reaching the point where he embraces a romantic relationship with Hex. There were tense moments of danger, some action, some spice and plenty of mutual yearning and attraction. A fun read overall. 4.5 rounded up

🌶🌶

This is the 3rd book in the Mobster Mayhem Series. I definitely recommend reading them in order as there is an overarching plot and you will definitely be lost just jumping into this one.

Aran and Hex are following the next lead they got on this new mind control drug. This lead just happens to bring the aboard a cruise ship with a bunch of government officials and billionaires. Hex is the unofficial hacker of the Akiyama group and Aran is the CSO. Aran made a promise to Hex's father before he passed that he would always take care of Hex, so when Hex's mother also passed Aran became his guardian. Hex has long since stopped seeing Aran as a parental figure and takes this opportunity where they are forced together basically stranded at sea to make his next move....and boy is he not shy about it 🤣 I absolutely love how Hex just lived his life out loud and always spoke his mind what ever popped in there just no filter at all...you never had to worry about miscommunication! I have loved the crime/Action plot since book 1 so I was super excited to jump back in and this did not disappoint!

This is book three in the author’s Mobster Mayhem series and features Aran, the CSO of Akiyama Group, a Japanese mafia organization and Hex, Japan’s number one genius hacker.

This was a dad’s best friend, slow burn romance with Aran taking care of Hex because of his last promise to Hex’s dad. Thing is, his promise has BEEN satisfied; Hex is now 23 years old, he hasn’t needed a father figure in years. He’s not letting Aran off the hook though. He’s in love with Aran and what he wants, he gets!!

I had already guessed part of the ending fairly early but there was one part that I could NEVER have guessed. Parts of the book was really cute with the back and forth banter between the two MCs but at the end, it got really dark in a way I wasn’t expecting at all and it kinda got all up in my head thinking about it. Up until that part everything was pretty much all light and fun but then it took a downward turn and lost me a little bit but if you like mafia suspense with a little humor thrown in, this is one you’ll enjoy but for me, it lost a point with the darker turn. 4 stars!

Wow! I haven’t read the prior books, but after reading this, I want to! I loved how everything is explained, we are on the loop along with the characters, and it isn’t like those stories where the detective says who the culprit is, and give information that the reader didn’t have! This isn’t like that at all, and I love it. We know what the characters know, and that makes it an even better story! And the POVs are so well done! You know who’s talking without looking at the name because they’re written so uniquely, they’re easy to identify. The idea is also fascinating, such a powerful drug would be devastating if it was created. The writing was so well done, I’m not sure what I was more invested in: the investigation or the romance. Very well balanced story, well written, thoroughly enjoyable, and I look forward to reading more from this author. I’m so glad I received an ARC for free, and I leave this review voluntarily. It is a book worth reading from an author who writes suspenseful romance in a very engaging and enjoyable way.

This was a fun continuation of this series. Hex is the perfect person to round out the sassy group of Leo and Matt. I really enjoyed his sass, his bratty attitude and the pining. The feelings between them were already there, but Aran held them back because he thought his job was to look out for Hex and not touch. We've seen Hex flirt with Aran in the other books and this was the continuation of that.
Hex is a menace of a hacker, while Aran is the CSO of the Akiyama group, and they embark on an undercover mission. This book is action packed and fun. At times Hex seemed oblivious to things going on around him, especially when it came to the Lynxes. I think I would have enjoyed it more if their mission would have been concluded a bit earlier and we could have seen them a bit not on the mission.

All in all it was a fun mafia romance with an age gap, a lot of action and secrets and Hex being a genius hacker while bringing out the possessiveness of Aran.

This is the third installment of Mobster Mayhem and just as fun as the two previous books

Hex, a fabulous hacker, is besotted with Aran Chief Security Officer, who was his Dad's best friend and has captioned him "my future husband". It's funny, sassy, bratty and the pining and longing are so good.

Spending two weeks in close proximity on a cruise to find more information to disable the group responsible for the development of mind control drugs has Hex full of ideas on how to seduce Aran and prove he can work in the field

Both the plot and romance were a slow start but with the introduction of some great side characters, Mong I'm talking to you , it picked up steam and kept me engaged and entertained.

Really enjoyed it and hoping there is more to come in the series

I would certainly recommend it to others

I received an ARC from the author but these views are my own

Who Said Execs Couldn’t Be HEXed? is the third book in the Mobster Mayhem series. There's lots to really enjoy in this book. Hex just blissfully goes about his life. He wants his man, Aran, and he wants to stop the development of a mind control drug. He has plans for accomplishing both. The plot action, mystery and edge of seat tension is excellent. There's snark and humor.
My dislike, and it's a big one, was Aran. The pages and pages of internal whining and angsting was just too much. Every chapter of Aran's POV was full of "I promised my friend" and "He's too young for me". I wanted more mystery plot. Less whining plot. This is slow burn at it's best. And it's worst. There's steam between the two from start to finish.
A quick read. Great in some parts. It has a soft cliff hanger. And I can hardly wait for book four.

Hex has it bad for Aran and he has never been shy to let Aran know it. Aran thinks that he can't, although he is attracted to Hex. But Hex is his best friend's son and a lot younger and Aran promised to always look out for Hex since his father is no longer alive. However, the age difference has not stopped Hex from doing whatever he has to, including insisting that he and Aran work an undercover assignment to get at the bad guys on the ocean where Hex can use the close proximity - they share a room - to get Aran to succumb. The danger is real and they find themselves in the thick of it at some points. But so are the mutual feelings between them and the heightened situations helps move them to a new point in their relationship. There was a lot of action, spice and flirting and a sweet romance that was a long time coming.

I absolutely loved Hex. The story had a lot of action and trying to take down the bad guys as a subplot. Some of that was overly filled with details that didn’t really add to the story. The greatest part of this story was Hex. Aran even while he was trying to keep his feelings in check loved Hex and his over the top bratty behavior. The two of them had the best relationship. Age gap and dad’s best friend didn’t really matter in the end. The banter, the shenanigans, the totally bratty behavior, was what made this book so good. I would have still enjoyed every minute if it was just about them and them navigating their feelings and relationship. This was an excellent read.

I read Who Said Witness Protection was Boring and I was intrigued with the book that I knew I had to read more. At the end of the second book, they discovered about a certain brain washing drug that was going to be let out in the world. Aran, who is security, who was tasked to go on a cruise ship to find out more. Hex is a hacker extraordinaire who went along as he has had a crush on Aran for years. As they work to find clues, Hex keeps flirting with Aran and Aran keeps pushing him away. Aran is Hex’s dad’s best friend who died in the line of duty. Aran took Hex in and raised him. Loved the world building and how Aran finally gave in to his feeling for Hex. Cannot wait to read more in this series.

Aran, a dedicated security operative, is assigned to a high-stakes mission aboard a cruise ship. Accompanying him is Hex, a brilliant hacker with a long-standing crush on Aran. As they delve into their investigation, Hex's flirtations intensify, but Aran remains resolute in maintaining professional boundaries. Aran was a close friend of Hex's late father and took him in, raising him as his own. This fatherly bond makes Aran's resistance to Hex's advances even more poignant. However, as the mission progresses, the line between professional duty and personal feelings blurs, leading Aran to confront his emotions and the possibility of a future with Hex. The book is funny, action-packed, romantic, with some intense moments, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Hex❤️Aran

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
4.5⭐️This series is so fun! I love the outrageous and endearing characters and the world building has been excellent- it’s definitely not the typical gritty mobster romance. It’s wildly entertaining and a great excuse to escape the real world with a perfectly over the top hacker and the object of his desire, his father’s best friend. These two are a good time, I loved the cat and mouse game between them, Aran didn’t stand a chance because Hex is undeniable. This was a great blend of action, romance, and humor. Loved it a bunch!

Love this series

4.5/5
I have really liked each book in this series. It’s also fun getting to see bits of previous characters in each book. This one picks up where book two left off, with new MC’s, and can absolutely be read as a standalone. There is a lot going on in this story, and I was never quite sure what would happen next. One thing was always certain: Hex would be a bit ridiculous, and he wouldn’t stop until Aran was his.

I deducted a half star because the ending felt a little rushed. I still enjoyed the book very much! I’m hoping the storyline continues and we see more of Mong.
