Family devotions time is important in the Christian home. It instills Bible study in each member of the family. That is, if done correctly. There is no absolutely correct way to hold family devotions. It just needs to work and to be a time looked forward to by each member of the group. This means it should start early in the life of the child. It also means it should be geared to be understood by the child.

In mixed age families, it is harder to accomplish the goal of gearing the level of material covered and most likely the younger children would need to have a different time set aside for them and then pre-teens and teens can have devotions with parents.

For the young child or children in the family, using a guide such as Snuggle Time Devotions that end with a Hug! can ensure that their attention is captured and the material suitable for their age.

In reviewing this Snuggle Time/Hug! book, there are pros and cons. Well, nothing is perfect except God’s Son and His Word. The author, Stephen Elkins, has done a pretty good job of taking Bible stories and really breaking them down to a level for very young children. The “take away” for each section guides parents as they establish with the child that the story has merit to the child because they can “take away” a lesson they learn.

With 52 lessons, I can see this being used once a week. Obviously, most Christian homes are going to have devotions or Bible time more often than once a week. Using this only once a week can provide opportunities for other materials and variety during this time of devotions.

Now what don’t I really care about? The cover is cute and that is fine and appealing to children. However, the drawing of Jesus on the cover is just a bit too cute for me. Use cute children. Use cute animals. But please don’t cutesy up Jesus.

As far as the text and lessons inside the book are concerned, they are fine but the material for each “story” from the Bible is somewhat glossed over. Even young children can learn more from a Bible story than is shared on these pages. It is a guide, though, and parents can elaborate as much as they wish with more details of each story. The Biblical references are given for each story so it can be easily looked up in the Bible.

All in all, this is a good book and children will love it. The size is good for children to hold and the binding is hardcover which gives it durability.
I strongly encourage families to establish family devotions and stick with it. Modify it as needed for accommodating the kids as they grow. Make it interesting. Make it fun. Make it reverent because you are dealing with God and His Holiness. Don’t cram it down the kid’s throats. Give them opportunities to participate. Let them read. Let them pray. Sing. Be joyful. And don’t forget a hug is always a good part of family time.

Share a Hug with Someone You Love

Snuggle Time Devotions is a children’s book which is a part of the “that end with a hug” series of books. Snuggle Time Devotions include 52 short stories taken from the Bible, a Bible reference that is shown at the top of the page, as well as a Bible verse to remember (which goes along with the theme of the story). There is also a reflection which looks back upon the story and how it applies to the reader’s life. After this there is a suggested story activity to be done by the reader. Then it ends with a direction for a specific type of person to receive a hug.

Snuggle Time Devotions include just the right length of story to hold a young reader’s attention. The reflections provide learning about the Bible in the reader’s own life, the chosen scripture verses help the reader to remember word of God as they apply to the story and the lesson being taught, an activity provides a way to see the story theme in action, and each hug passes on the love of Jesus.

The illustrations invite the reader into a world which can be understood from their perspective. Snuggle Time Devotions is good for young readers and young listeners. After being introduced to this particular book I am now interested in obtaining all the books in the “that end with a hug” series of books.

I highly recommend Snuggle Time Devotions for both children and parents.

A very nice devotional book for children and their parents, geared to older preschool age through early elementary. Our daily lives are busy and often it’s challenging to find time to do devotions with our children. This book is simple, straight forward, and easy to incorporate into our day. Teaching our children to have one-on-one time with God is critical and an absolute must, and it most definitely should begin with the early years. Each devotion is divided into four sections: “my snuggle up story,” “my snuggle time takeaway,” “my Bible time activity,” and “hug time” and can take only 5-10 minutes of your time. Depending on the child’s age, you may be able to extend your “snuggle time.” Each devotion also has scripture references at the beginning.

My only complaint about this book, and it really is not a complaint, is that the title initially was misleading to me. When I first saw the book, I thought it was for bedtime. But this was my mistake. Once you look through the book, you will see that it is an “anytime” book. Because with small children, that’s exactly what you have to look for – any time during the day! MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a sweet and wonderful devotional for children! I love the adorable pictures, the colors, the padded cover, and the pages. When you have this book in your hand, you can feel quality, because it is a very high quality made book. And the devotions are so sweet and short enough for even a small child to sit through. Though they are detailed enough that your child will learn about Jesus as you read to them. And I can see kids asking many questions about the different devotions, which is very good, and a great way to learn. And I really love that each devotion has a Bible verse, snuggle time take away, Bible time activity and hugs time. All of this put together makes for an awesome and a must have devotion for your children.

Snuggle Time Devotions That End With A Hug is a fascinating little book for children. It has good illustration great artwork, it has a good front and back cover. It has a presentation page, rhyming Bible stories, devotional thoughts, games/activities that demonstrate Bible story's lesson and HUGS. This is a very fun filled presentation of the Bible for a child. It has the title, scripture for that lesson, key verse, the story, activity for that lesson and a hug. It presents the Bible in such a fun way and easy to understand.
In one of the time takeaways it said:
Blessings come TO us to flow THROUGH us. I like that. There's another one that says:
We LET GO and LET GOD! We trust the One who knows the way.
Children will want to read this book over and over. My 2 year old great granddaughter likes it. I can't wait to read the next share a hug book. Good reading!!

I absolutely LOVE this little book by Stephen Elkins. My 3 yr old loves the "hug" at the end of each devotion. I love that it's small enough for her tiny little hands, and these devotions are easy to read and easy to get a child interested. This book has quickly become part of our bedtime routine.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has little ones, or is looking for a gift for a little one.
