1/2 Vampire/ 1/2 Succubus Caroline Grey eats souls more often than blood.
Detective Sam Coulson is a former lover who needs Caroline's help solving a mystery surrounding dead half breed experiments gone wrong. She's reluctant to help him. Apparently time doesn't heal all wounds, and he's not much sport in her seduction games. Apparently he has a trophy wife b/c he "took one for the team". Not sure what that means, as it wasn't really addressed, so I hope it shows up in later books. The main point of contention isn't just that Sam is hopelessly devoted (or is he) but that he is still drawn to Caroline - and it has nothing to do with the fact that she's 1/2 succubus. We never actually meet Sam's trophy wife, but I already hater her (so I was happy when a "little something something went down...).
Caroline is an experiment of someone, but we don't find out who. Someone keeps leaving her blood cards, indicating they're coming after her. Is it the person or organization that created her, or someone else entirely? We don't find out yet, but it drives the book into various avenues of lies, deceit and cashed in favors.
Dark Temptations is a thriller with a little bit of erotica thrown in. It wasn't overpowering and didn't take away from the story at all. I did enjoy the sexual dynamic of Caroline. Even when she doesn't try she draws in prey. Such is life for a succubus, but she deals with it quite well. :)
