What’s worse than falling for your brother’s best friend? Falling for your boss—and also your secret baby daddy. Seven years ago, I made one tiny falling into bed with my brother’s best friend. Deacon was everything—gorgeous, powerful, my fated mate. Until he rejected me the morning after like I was last week’s leftovers. What he didn’t know? I left with more than just a broken heart—I left with twins.
Fast forward to today. My life’s finally on track. I’ve got a good job, two adorable boys, and no messy Alpha drama. Then my new boss walks in, all smirks and muscles, and surprise! It’s Deacon freaking Cross. He says he made a mistake and is determined to fix everything. That he wants me back—not just as his assistant, but as his mate.
He’s getting too close. To me. To my boys. And when he pins me to the table and asks, “What aren’t you telling me?” My answer? Let him chase. I’ve got secrets worth keeping—and this time, I’m calling the shots.
Decent fated rejected shifter book (possible spoilers ahead)
H is 7 years older than h (aged 18) H is also bff’s with h’s brother. H has known for years that h was his fated mate but she is too young for him. h has always had a huge crush on H. She spends a lot of her time hero-worshipping him to her very best friend (can’t remember her name. I’ll just call her evil bff)
On h’s 18th birthday, she finally shags H in the woods. They hear screams and go running to h’s house. h’s mom/dad/brother all burned up in the house. After the funeral, h tells the whole pack that her relatives were murdered but H’s dad (who is alpha) is like “nah, you are wrong” H then basically rejects her in front of the whole pack. h tries to stay the night with her evil BFF because she has no house left and evil BFF is like “nope” 🤪 h almost jumps off a cliff but her wolf tells her “we are pregnant”
From H’s pov we see he’s there with his dad when he’s dying. We hear him tell his dad “I know you’re the one who killed h’s family” Then dad dies
Years later (I think like 7 years) h lives in the big city with her two twin boys. Her job has just been sold to a new owner. *shocker* her new boss is H. We find out from his POV that he has been looking for h since she left and he just discovered where she was and bought the company. We also find out that evil BFF has been trying to be with him since h left.
Both H and h have been celibate during all the years apart. H does realize as soon as he sees the boys that they are his.
H does have to grovel but not that hard because h shags him within days of his return. Evil BFF shows up and tries to throw a wrench into their relationship. Then her dead brother shows up. 🙃 dead brother tells her that H is the one who burned their parents to death. h believes it for a minute but quickly realizes something is up.
Finally, the twins are kidnapped by her dead brother and the evil BFF. Evil BFF lays everything out. She is the one who burned h’s parents up and she kept dead brother hidden to use him later. Evil BFF was in love with H and H’s dad promised her if she got rid of them, then she could be Luna. I guess dead brother was shocked to hear this because he grabs her and jumps off the cliff.
I really struggled to understand why dead brother was bought back to life only to die again. 🤷♀️
Omg this was terrible. The main characters are dumb. The man rejects the woman. She’s young. Her parents and brother die. She runs away. He tries to win her back. She gets scared of being trapped with him in an elevator and fucks him. Still hates him wholly but fucks him because of fear. It’s weird and gross. I read a spoiler review that gave away the rest of the plot and it looks just as out of left field and silly as her whole family suddenly being dead.
Not great. It started as a shifter book, then took a drastic turn into a billionaire romance never mentioning shifting again, except he’s an alpha (who never sees his pack) and she’s his luna, I guess. And what pack did all these other people belong to? What’s the point of the pack in the first place?
It has very juvenile quality to it too where the characters don’t seem to act or speak their age, but feel way younger. Even the boys talk more like toddlers than six year olds.
You can definitely find way better rejected shifter romances out there, but if I had to recommend it to anyone I’d say someone who likes billionaire/mafia type of romances more than paranormal/shifter romances. If you’re looking for a lot of wolfy tropes you’ll be disappointed
This was a great book! It was light on shifting which seems as just a side note but the rest is very good. A few twists and turns through the angst and drama of the MC’s as they journey to their HEA.
Making this story so good was the strength of the main characters and their growth during the book.
I enjoyed the plot of this story, which is why i gave it 2 stars instead of 1. But i had a really hard time with the main characters and how terrible they were at having an adult conversation. They never talked about things. They had long mental, pitty party type dialog in their own heads. Then it all imploded at the end. And all of a sudden they are together and everything is fine. I would have enjoyed it more if they actually had the conversations with each other, instead of just thinking everything. If you are looking for a quick read, with main characters who avoid the hard conversations, but still get caught up lusting after each other often…. Here’s your books. I’ll read the next book to see if this is just a ‘this book’ thing, like i said at the beginning- the plot idea was good. Just left me frustrated with all the emotions but lack of proper closure for them all.
I can understand some of the negative reviews, as the storyline is just the bare pieces. For example there is the ups and downs you have in the relationships and then there are the tense parts. By you don't actually learn anything about who they are and what their backgrounds are. There's also no character progression but what there is, is a good story with no.errors and great grammar. If you enjoy a easy read and a mix understood make character, along with a strong female mc you'll love it
I found this to be a really hard read. It was like reading the work of maybe a high schooler. the verbiage was not something I have read in paranormal books before. Thus the reason I gave it a one.
Some very unbelievable things even in a shifter story
I was going to give this 4 stars, but there are just some things I can't get over.
SPOILERS:
In 7 years, with his betas supposedly being great investigators and him having enough money to buy random companies...how the heck would Crystal get away with holding Jake? She would be followed everywhere if she was going to be Luna, supposedly have good security, and somehow, she sneaks out enough to keep Jake locked in? And Jake doesn't want to go anywhere for 7 years? Not to see his sister, not...anything? This particular plotline is super hard to swallow.
I always get sucked in, I get sucked in by the synopsis
and the notion that the female leads are going to actually have a spine or maybe make the guys pay for what they've done, but they never really do. So, I never really like the books because I hate the female leads. I can't think of one where I actually liked the author's female main character. They're all doormats and while they may leave, the minute the guy shows up and spouts a few flowery words the doormat is all over him again -- like within 24 hours they're sleeping together, and they're back together as if nothing happened within a week, if that. Seriously.
The Alpha’s Broken Oath begins the Feral Hearts Saga series with Winter’s and Deacon’s heartbreaking broken bond romance as their past merges with the present reality for mates who were torn apart by lies and deceit.
Winter knew that Deacon was her mate. Sure, she hadn’t gotten her wolf yet, but she was still certain beyond question that her brother’s best friend was the man, the wolf meant for her. And for one glorious day, the day her wolf finally appeared, it seemed like the future was theirs for the taking… until her family was killed in a fire that she believed was set intentionally and until Deacon rejected her in front of the entire pack. Winter fled, left her love, her pack behind, running to an unknown future, heartbroken… but she carried more than just memories with her.
I loved watching the reunion between Deacon and Winter take place. Seven years. A long time to be rejected, a long time for an alpha to search for his mate, knowing it was his lie that sent her running in the first place. He’s searched for her and finally found where she settled and made a new life for herself. But there are some things this alpha has no clue about, and those little boys, in the image of him, are about to change his world.
The Alpha’s Broken Oath by Jennifer Eve is well-written, emotional, steamy, and has more than a few twists along the way before Deacon and Winter can finally claim their happiness. Some I suspected, others caught me completely off guard. I love when that happens. Watching Deacon grovel (well, as much as a powerful alpha will), and seeing the indecision in Winter as she weighs all she’s learned was an intense, emotional journey. If you love a story that keeps you on edge, that gives all the feels you could ask for, and a couple to root for to find their happy ending, then you’d love this one.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Idk why I keep trying; for me, the books by this author don't have any real depth to them. The characters, the plot, and the world-building are all flat. We don't get to grow with the characters, learn their quirks, personalities, and back stories; the plot... what the effing hell was that? What a mess, it was all over the place, especially towards the end. And we're left with questions and holes in the world-building.
This is a just good enough book for someone who wants a quick, simple read, with no complications or substance, which I know we sometimes can get in the mood for. I just never happen to be in said mood when reading one of her books, so they leave me with the impression of being very shallow, made for the sake of a quick publishing schedule. Sorry, but it's just my take on it.
There's usually a lot of promise in her works, that if maybe she had more time, took more attention to detail and dedicated to developing from start to end all the loose ends and ideas, they could become very good books. Unfortunately, I can't rate the promise of a book, only what it is, so 1 star it is.
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK Winter is this sweet young lady who is in love with Deacon her brothers best friend but her brother. Then one day Winter gets her wolf and runs into Deacon and things get hot and heavy because they turn out to be mated which Deacon knew but never told anyone because his father forbid it. And on the same night they're together something tragic happens and when face with finding out the truth Deacon does stand up for Winter, humiliating her in front of the whole clan. So she leaves. Little Asher and Adrian a total cuteness overload. When Deacon shows up out of nowhere Winter does everything she can to keep her family hidden. Deacon really true to redeem himself but Winter doesn't trust him. At times I had tears in my eyes out of both happiness and sadness. This loved this storyline and I always enjoy an HEA. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
I loved this book the first of the series Feral Hearts Saga. This book had everything in it - rejection anger sadness heartbreak regrets and most importantly love. How love transcends everything else and wins through in the end.
The author brings to life the feelings generated in the storyline making you feel everything the characters do which I loved the most.
I loved the fact that it was the male character who started this story by rejecting his mate because he was afraid of what might happen to his mate to find he did the deepest thing ever and spend the last 6 years searching for his love and then trying to prove he was the male she fell in love with especially when he didn't realise he had twin boys alive and looking so much like him.
The ending was brilliant and she finally became his Luna as she should have all those years ago xx
This is basically impossible to write without spoilers so... SPOILERS AHEAD
This book is good, solid read, solid plot, solid spice. But I got thrown from the story with the little boys - they're 7, but then they're 8, but then they're talking and acting like 5-year-olds. It was weird.
Most importantly, the reason this book only gets 2 stars is that the author has a scene where she writes the 7-year-old shook in her arms until he turned cold. You tell me that this author didn't just kill a kid with that line. It takes 9 pages of small font to get to him now being in a hospital. Rewrite the line. Because I almost dnf'd right there. I stayed out of sheer bafflement that someone would write that in a romance. I'm sure others will not.
There’s nothing more disappointing than a story with potential and poor execution. So many continuity errors. The author couldn’t stick to the math she set up. There’s a lack of transitions which makes scenes choppy. And so many plot details were forced. He’s a billionaire but didn’t have the means to find her for seven years? But some other interested man was able to learn she has kids she’s kept secret? Our billionaire doesn’t know how to hire good people apparently. This is the second book by this author I’ve tried and while definitely better than the other, they read hastily slapped together. Unfortunate because there was a good story there.
The storyline was a bit predictable, but the surprise twists were a boost to the whole plot that began and festered with Deacon's father & Crystal. Altogether, not a bad book, but Winter keeping the babies a secret for seven years left me cold. Every man should have the choice over accepting his children, even though he refuted their bond. I guess the premise was difficult for me, especially as Winter seemed like an intelligent female who should've thought about the repercussions of going head to head with the old alpha, who had still been strong. The events were a bit theatrical, but I think the writer has promise given time and experience. Three stars.
Deacon is such an egotistical asshole. He rejects his mate and when he finds her 7yrs later he thinks she's going to fall at his feet and says things like I had you first so you're mine. The only slightly redeeming thing was that he never made Winter feel bad about keeping her kids a secret.
I liked that Winter didnt pull her punches when telling Deacon how little he meant to her, but her actions weren't consistent considering how many times she feel into bed with him and forgave him.
Plot wise I saw one twist coming but not the other, and the ending left me feeling melancholy. Also they never talked about his alpha responsibilities or how returning to the pack would feel to Winter.

The start of this book lacked any real depth or effort to establish the characters or their world. It read more like a rough Wattpad draft than the opening of a finished novel. As the story went on, everything unfolded too easily and predictably. I know these books follow a familiar formula, but this one offered no substance to balance that out.
Normally, I can forgive a lot in a book if the relationship build-up is engaging or the spice delivers, but neither did. Even the sex scenes felt lazy and mechanical (almost AI-written) with vague details and sudden skips like “after three orgasms.” A disappointing read overall.
The storyline was a little cringey and the characters didn't have very much depth. It felt like an awkward high schooler written story. There was a conflict and then resolution 2 chapters later. And then the same conflict would come up again but slightly different with another rushed resolution. All of the conflicts seemed to be coming from a lack of communication. I read it until about half way through and then skipped to the end for some closure before I deleted it.
I enjoyed this book. I loved all the groveling it’s rare that an alpha doesn’t do everything by force but I loved that he was willing to do anything for forgiveness. The spice level was perfect and Winters resilience was admirable as well and right as everything comes together BOOM all the secrets revealed and the actual hero in the end had me in tears 😭 definitely a good read.
This is a good book if you are looking for a quick read. If you like fated mates, secret babies, rejection then reclaim, and single mom trope you will like this book. I would give this book 6 out of 10 for spice.
The thing that I didn't like about it was that this was supposed to be a shifter romance, and there was one shifter scene. As the book went on, you could almost forget that they were fated mates and not some people that hooked up and had kids.
This novel with its twists and turns will keep the reader's interest. Deacon and Winter went the long way around to get to their happiness. With so many roadblocks along the way to their happiness, Deacon and Winter have many hurdles to cross. Read this remarkable story about Deacon Cross and Winter Cavanaugh to see/learn how they get to their Happily Ever After!
I really loved the storyline. Your heart hurts for Winter for all the troubles she goes through. Deacon has loved her all along. My problem was I really didn’t know how old the boys were. In one place they were 6, then another nearly 8 and yet they had been apart 7 years. So probably 6. But for the most part I really enjoyed it and will read more by this author.
I had high hopes for this book but it started going downhill for me at 30 or 40%. Some really obvious things made no sense. Why didn’t he leave with her? He put everything else ahead of her and why did he allow a two minute kiss with Crystal in front of her? Her brother had a gun with silver bullets so why didn’t he use it? I started getting so frustrated I almost hoped she’d go find the other alpha.
