Me ha encantado leer la historia al completo de este ciclista que me cae tan tan bien.

La verdad es que pese a escuchar religiosamente todas las semanas su podcast, hay muchas cosas del principio de su carrera y de los primeros años del Sky que no sabia. Por eso ha sido super interesante de leer, además de que me ha ayudado a poner en contexto muchas anécdotas que he escuchado en el podcast pero que ahora tiene mucho mas sentido y son mucho mas graciosas.

Si algo me ha soprendido es que no dedique casi palabras a Luke Rowe. Si bien es cierto que le menciona al final hablando del Tour de 2022, no tiene un papel tan principal en su carrera como yo esperaba después de escucharles juntos durante tanto tiempo. Igual ahora quiero leer el libro de Luke para ver su perspectiva en algunas de estas carreras.

Honestly a really enjoyable telling of G’s life on the bike. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, and this only solidified that. Seems like a genuine bloke, who achieved some remarkable cycling feats and still kept his humility and humanity. A good one

Bikes and books - is there a better combination?

I’ve always admired G and found his story compelling. It’s a well-written book that offers a clear-eyed look at the tactics of professional bike racing. He was undoubtedly undervalued at times, yet he still finished a long career with an impressive haul of wins and high placings. If only he hadn’t crashed so often.

That’s the rub. He tends to pin most of those crashes on other riders, which doesn’t quite wash. Other Grand Tour winners simply didn’t hit the deck as much—some scarcely fell at all during the Tours they won. Still, the ghostwriter has done a strong job, and G remains an easy rider to like. I’ve always admired his attitude to the sport. Good luck to him—there’s plenty of road left ahead.

This is different to G’s other books. You can tell by the different style of writing. It’s just better. It also feels like a lot of reading, which is good because the book flows really well. It’s also non repeative, so it’s mostly all new material that you’re reading. It covers the highs and the lows of his career with a good balance and you can tell there’s some controversial stuff simmering in the background, particularly around team dynamics and contract renewal. So you know that professional bike racing is not dissimilar to an office job. Good book this.

This was my first cycling autobiography that I have read.

I have been following cycling fairly seriously watching at least the tour every year for the past 5 years along with a few classics. I have also been cycling since 2012 (hobbyist).

It was a great inside look at what it really takes to be a pro cyclist at the highest level. How much pain suffering and sacrifice these guys put in. With that said G’s approach and mindset to it is just remarkable and probably one of a kind even at the pro level, which explains why we was riding at a top level when he was almost 40!

It gets an extra star just because it’s G and once again he provides a no nonsense description of cycling that no one see would.

I especially enjoyed the chapters on the early days and the way in which at the end of his career he is able to link Olympic success on the track with his phenomenal tour career.

This is the third book by G I’ve read, which surprised me somewhat, but definitely the best of the bunch. And you can get signed copies which is nice.

A run-of-the-mill autobiography but if you like cycling and/or Geraint Thomas you won’t mind one bit. An amazing story of a kid from a non-cycling culture becoming one of the best in the world.

Reading the book made me appreciate his career more than ever. It’s clear that from a child until retirement Thomas was totally dedicated to his sport, a sport which accept no half-measures. Chapeau to him for all he did for his sport and for Wales.

Nice, smooth, and quite predictable. Unlike his previous books, it lacks a more interesting theme and the one that would spice it all up, i.e., an open confession without embellishment at the moment when G has dropped out of the cycle, is completely missing. Everyone is nice, he respects everyone, he doesn't complain about anybody... and it's a bit boring.
