Complex Finish: Langerford Cellars

Rate this book
It's time to tie up a few loose ends because it's all coming down to a Complex Finish.

Disappearing was easy, but coming out of hiding is proving a little more complex.
-Sammy

Sam Langerford
I haven't been myself since she walked away from me almost two years ago. I've molded a life I thought was fulfilling, but it's hollow. No matter what I do, I'm bitter, scattered and empty. My friends are kicking me out of our winery unless I get a hold of my life again. They've shipped me off to a winery in Loire Valley, France, to hone my skills and teach the vintners how we do things in California. They think I'll find myself here, but what I find shakes me to my core. The other half of me has been in France this whole time. But now there's more on the line than just our hearts. To save our lives and the lives of everyone we love, we'll have to come together and find common ground again, or everything we hold dear could be lost.

The penultimate and thrilling last book in the Sonoma Series, 5 Families Vineyards, ties it all together, and what a lingering finish it will have!

I used to create "dreams" with my best friend growing up. We'd each pick a boy we liked, then we'd write down a meet-cute that always ended with a happily ever after.

Now I get to dream every day, although it's a little steamier these days. And I've discovered I can and will write anywhere I can. Keep tuned to Instagram to see all the times I fit in a sentence or two.

I'm a writer, married to a writer, mother of a creative dynamo of a nine-year-old boy and currently a little sleepy. I'm a klutz and goofball and love lipstick as much as my Chuck Taylors.

Good things in the world: pepperoni pizza, Flair pens*, wine, coffee, laughing with my friends until my stomach hurts, a musician at the top of their game, getting lost somewhere I've never been, matinee movies on a weekday, the Chicago Cubs, a fresh new notebook full of possibilities, bourbon on a cold night, Fantasy Football, witty men, walking through the local zoo in the rain and that moment when a character clicks in and begins to write their own adventure. I'm just the pen.

“Now, let’s go get some goddamned happily ever afters. We’ve earned them.”
First up: this is definitely not a standalone. In fact, I did a full reread of the previous books in the series to reacquaint myself with all the hints and twists before I embarked on this one, because I had a feeling it would live up to the title. If you’re wondering how much more trouble five Californian winemaking families can get into, the answer is: quite a lot.
This is coincidence or fate reuniting two lovers with all the angst that involves. This is secrets finally coming to light and pieces being put together. And above all, this is the most madcap of heists with a ridiculous number of moving parts that utilises all the skills of this large and disparate group - and a few new and unexpected ones from some surprising quarters. I absolutely loved how the families step up and provide plenty of trademark humour and banter amid the drama, and there are also moments where the strong bonds they all share are brought to the fore. The story builds to a breathlessly dramatic denouement that’s worthy of an action movie, delivering the promised complex finish and creating a vintage blend that I’ll certainly be returning to again and again.
Thanks to the author for the advance review copy. All opinions are my own.

Complex Finish was edge of your seat, fantastic! Kelly Kay brought the Sonoma series full circle and tied up loose ends with a complex set of twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. This story follows Sam and Sammy, who were equally sexy and intense characters.

Oh, Sammy, Sammy, Sammy! My feelings for her were complex. On one side, I appreciated her selflessness in trying to protect the found family she loved. On the other side, I was a little upset with her for the same reason, for the heartbreak she caused. Sammy was a survivor, and I admired her strength for all that she endured.

Sam Langerford utterly broke my heart. I shed some tears as he struggled with his loss and the depression that came with it. But, oh boy, was he devastatingly swoony when it came down to it.

Kelly went smokin' HOT with Sam and Sammy. I enjoyed their banter and that BDSM made for a deliciously fun time. But above all else, I loved their intense emotional connection.

With witty and smart dialogue, Kelly delivered an engaging caper story that had the added bonus of being partially set in France. The banter, the action, and the unbreakable loyalty of the five families created a wonderful ending to this series.

Sam And Sammy And Everybody Else
Wow, what a rollercoaster story! The ninth book in this wonderful series, the culmination of the other books, is just amazing. It also comes with a lot of content warnings. Blood, kidnapping, murder, abusive relationships (off page), PTSD elements, violence towards women on page and off, confinement and imprisonment off page, death, knives, off page assault and torture, paint guns, tranquilizer guns, actual guns, loving BDSM elements, wine, lots of wine, AND a happily ever after. It also deals with depression and anxiety and the struggle to get on the other side of it. In short, anything and everything that life can contain. And I loved it. It’s written with so much love and understanding, with humor and sass, all the characters of these winemaking families become friends and them finding their HEA makes me happy too. Do yourself a favor and read them all. Highly recommended.

Finally! We get the story behind where Sammy disappeared to, causing Sam to become an insufferable grump...

Sam and Sammy were a match made in heaven - you've never seen a more perfect couple. Then, Sammy disappeared, turning Sam's world upside down.

This book gave me so many feels. Heartbroken, seeing just how much pain Sam was in, and how he was hurting everyone around him as he tried to numb his own pain. Excitement to see Sammy again, and finally get her side of the story. Then there was their reunion - rocky, then things really heated up.

And if that wasn't enough, enter the rest of the 5 families, their loves, and yes - even their parents, for a thrilling adventure to free Sammy from her past - and other secrets I won't divulge (but trust me, they're good).

I cried, then I laughed, and then I spent far too much time on the edge of my seat. This was yet another winner from Kelly Kay, a must-read.

This is the one I’ve been waiting for!

What a ride! Listen, I have wanted this book from the minute I met these two, and being patient is hard for me. But I put my faith and trust in Kelly and her plan for them and it was absolutely worth the wait. This is a BDSM, caper story with twists and turns that you are going to have to read to believe.

This is the final full length book in Kelly’s Sonoma Winery series, and it’s a perfect addition. As a Kelly Kay book you know you are going to get witty banter, smart dialogue, emotional connections and steamy moments that just might make you pause in the best possible way.

It’s no secret that I am a Kelly Kay fan, she writes books that are addictive and fun to read. Complex Finish has been a long time coming and I’m so glad it’s here. This series is going to have something for everyone, so don’t miss this!

This is an exhilarating, wild ride. From the moment that I began reading this I had a feeling that it was just going to take off running. And it did. So many moving components and parts that made this whole book flow effortlessly with all the details from one page to the next. I loved how this author brought this entire series full circle answering some lingering questions, tying up loose ends, while throwing in plenty of twists and turns. Plus the banter between the characters it'll have you laughing out loud. Suspense, action, angst, drama, loyalty, secrets, surprises and so much more. I highly recommend reading.

When you get 42% in and you were ready to go to bed but now you can’t!!! You just can’t! Do not read this late at night if you have to be productive the next day! That ending! It was definitely a complex finish. The build up for Sam and Sammy at the beginning was so vital to understanding her and her reason for leaving and for them to find each other again. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I loved the entire cast of this series being involved. It was a great way to wrap up the series but also show the extent of these families and their love for each other. Also how they each definitely have some unique sets of skills.

What a story - twists and turns and interwoven storylines as Sam and Sammy are torn apart and brought back together. There’s plenty of danger, drama, angst, the character you love to hate, some serious sexy times and favorite characters from the previous stories in this series. Nice seeing the 5 and their families come together to protect their own.

Wow...wow...wow...

This is the book, or maybe the next one will be THE book. The suspense..the intrigue..the reunion of the presumed dead, the missing, the family and the baby we didn't know about. Oh my gosh, it made for such a good story. To have almost everyone together to take down evil and get the baby back... Sheer perfection. This whole series has been wonderful, but this one is truly the complex finish.

OMG! This was so good!!
We were first introduced to Sam and Sammy back in the first trilogy (this is book 9 in this 5 families saga) and they were so good together, but then she up and disappeared and left Sam a shell of himself, he’s been a sad sack for a number of books now with no mention of Sammy (beyond the fact that she left him) in the timeline.
In Complex Finish we get her story and how it is connected to everything else that has been going on with the 5 families.
Don’t kid yourself that this is a stand alone read. I went back and reread both Residual Sugar and Bottled Up, as this basically follows straight on. Becca & Brick and Poppy & Sal’s stories, along with the Big Bad, are all twisted up together, in fact threads in this go all the way back to book 1 and are integrated into every story along the way.
Ms. Kay’s storytelling is brilliant! She has so many characters, plot lines, unanswered questions, and questions we didn’t even know to ask, all coming together in this book, all while Sam and Sammy find each other and reconnect and rekindle their profound love for each other.
There are so many twists and turns and eye opening moments to keep you on the edge of your seat, that make for fantastic reading.
One to go to finish off this 5 families saga and I for one will be sad to leave all these people behind.

Complex Finish indeed! What Kelly Kay has created with this somewhat final ride with the Sonoma crew is nothing short of wonderful. I couldn't look away as we FINALLY get Sam Langerford's story and the pain he has experienced for the past almost two years without the love of his life by his side. The mystery that is Sammy threw me for a loop as it did everyone else in her adopted Sonoma life and from the moment Sam and Sammy lock eyes once more in a small town in France, it's game on in the wildest of ways.

With references to Ocean's 12, Kay takes us on the most extreme, complicated and altogether wicked good ride. Everyone is here and accounted for with plenty of surprise 'guests' who make themselves known when it counts the most. With Sammy coming clean to Sam as to the whys of her sudden disappearance, what could and should have been a simple reunion turns into a race against time in order to preserve what future these two might finally have. I loved how Kay weaved elements of this story from the other books in this series, bringing together all these incredible characters I have come to know and adore to fight the evil that has been plaguing them for years now. I had more than one OMG moment, right along with the rest of the crew and the jaw-dropping, rollercoaster of an adventure we are taken on had me taking breaks, especially in the last segment of the book. I was almost afraid of what would happen next but was thankful the crazy-good humor this band of misfits have, especially the original 5, kept intense moments that much lighter.

Although this is a standalone, I implore you to start at the beginning with Josh and Elle's duet in order to get the ENTIRE story of how these talented albeit somewhat dopey (and I do mean that in the most affection of ways) vintners manage their always intertwined lives as only they can. You will laugh. You will shed a tear or two. And you'll fall madly in love with their love: for one another, for their partners, and for their parents who ultimately started this madness oh so long ago. I am forever in awe at how Kelly Kay has crafted this ever-expanding storyline and now that we have reached the end, I'm ready to start this spectacular reading experience all over again.

Kelly Kay has shown how much her writing has soared with Complex Finish the true masterpiece of this series. With one more look at the Sonoma crew with a long-awaited wedding and who knows what else this talented wordsmith will have in store for us in the near future, I am thrilled I have been through it all with a huge smile on my face.

Grab this one, even if you haven't read the rest. It's a keeper of the highest order with the unmatched combination of humor, heart and mayhem. With that being said, the only rating I could possibly give Complex Finish: Langerford Cellars is a HUGE 5++ stars!

Sam & Sammy 💕

🍷Since the love of his life disappeared two years ago, Sonoma winemaker Sam Langerford’s been in a terrible place. He’s transformed his body into a muscular form, taken up martial arts but his best friends have had enough.

🍷When he lands in France to do a course on a vineyard, the last person he’s expecting to see is his love, Sammy. Except she’s changed her name to Gigi and the vibe between them is mostly cold.

🍷Will Sam be able to give the woman he loves more than life itself another chance?

✏️This epic series is filled with all the good things that author Kelly Kay specialises in…. the community of friends who are family, passion, intrigue, twists, spicy spice and a story thread that has run like a Shibari rope knitting this story together. Complex Finish takes us on a quest that closes the loop of Sammy’s disappearance with a twist I definitely wasn’t expecting. No spoilers here. Just to say if you haven’t read this series, it’s so so good!

Another emotional rollercoaster that I could not put down. It makes you feel all the things ❤️‍🩹 ❤️‍🔥💔

If you haven’t read any of the Sonama Series, Five Families Vineyard books, don’t start with this one, it’s book 9. You will definitely need some context. We finally get Sam and Sammy’s full story and it is heartfelt, complex and gripping.

I have read them all so far and can honestly say I am so sorry that there is only one more to come. I will miss all these characters I have grown to know and will absolutely reread the series, it deserves it.

The series has with deeply interconnected characters from the “Five Families”, each with their own winery based in the Sonoma region of California and the various partners they meet along the way.

Love Kelly Kay’s writing and characters, she makes you feel things. I have read a lot of her books now and definitely recommend them to everyone that enjoys contemporary romance which actually has a really good back story, makes you laugh, cry and always served with a side of hot spice.

Wow! What a flocking rollecoaster ride this book was! I sat at the edge of my seat biting my nails for half of the book, other times I was a sobbing mess or giddy with laughter and all the feelings. So many feelings.

So, all in all, this was like all the other books by Kelly Kay, and she does it all so well! This isn't a standalone but a truly magnificent end to a wonderful series. And now I want to go back to the beginning and start it all over again!

Thank you, Kelly, for this insane journey, it's been a blast. 🖤

Complex Finish is an emotional roller coaster that’s exhilarating and one wild ride. It drew me in from the first chapter and it didn’t let me go until the final word was read. I haven’t read every book in this series so I have to say at times I struggled to keep up because this book is written to tie the whole series together. It’s an edge of your seat journey that’s full of suspense, drama, love, loyalty and secrets. It’s a well written story that had me laughing out loud one minute and sitting on the edge of my seat the next as the twists and turns just kept coming.

🌶️🌶️

This book had me hooked at the beginning and I needed to get to the epic ending of the series. This was hot, spicy, broody, exhilarating, bait and switchy, action packed, and filled with surprise after surprise. My heart was bruised, battered, in my throat, might have skipped a beat a time or two, and now it is just full. The epilogue was *chefs kiss* and Kelly Kay delivered it all in a witty prose that had me laughing out loud. Y’all need to jump in and start this series because is is more than a rollercoaster ride of spice each time.

❤️ Tropes ❤️
💋 second chance romance
💋 secret identity
💋 secret marriage
💋 secret… everything. Actually 🤣
💋 more than your average kink, with the main characters switching from sub to dom per scene

Sam knew he had been moody since Sammy disappeared, but he knows he lost his soul mate and she had to be in trouble. He didn’t realize that he had been so distracted he almost made their vineyard go under. So with a plane ticket to a France, a summer class at a vineyard, and a “don’t come back until you aren’t an ahole anymore” he’s booted out. But imagine his surprise when that vineyard is where his Sammy ran to. She now goes by the name of Gigi and apologizes without giving him answers. His heart is screaming forgive her but his brain says not without repairing the trust. At least until the bullets start flying.

Oh, my! The title illustrates it perfectly - but besides being really complex, it is well written, thrilling, heart-warming moving and satisfying. It makes you go and hug all the important people in your life, it gets you to remember the beginnings of your life and your loves and your family. Well, it can also make you a bit envious, but still.

Totally worth reading!
