Amelia Gale never thought she'd crash a wedding—especially not her best friend's. But when Ethan, the one constant in her life for fifteen years, uninvites her from his big day, she can’t let their story end on silence. Burdened by unsaid words and a fractured friendship, Amelia is determined to make one last stand before he says, "I do."
As Amelia looks back on the heartbreaks and secrets that brought her to this moment—from a tumultuous breakup with Ryan, the friend who became a lover, to her enduring connection with Ethan—she must decide if the weight of their history is worth risking everything. Can love born from years of friendship survive the mistakes, betrayals, and missed chances? Or are some things truly better left unsaid?
Better Left Between Us is a heartfelt romance about love, loss, and the courage to speak your truth before it's too late. Perfect for fans of When Harry Met Sally and Made of Honor, this emotionally charged debut will tug at your heartstrings and leave you believing in the power of second chances.
I started this book on a Friday and couldn’t put it down all weekend! It was such a fun read! The characters are instantly lovable, and their journey kept me hooked. Let’s take a moment to call out Carter, we love a supportive bestie! Even though it features tropes I don’t usually go for, I still had a great time reading it! The writing is engaging, the pacing is solid, and I can’t wait to see what Kylee writes next!
I’m going to make this as spoiler free as possible and also preface this with I don’t read a ton of romance. I enjoy it from time to time, but I tend to feel like it is repetitive. With that being said, I loved this book. The feeling of so many real life emotions, the “wtf” moments (take a hike with your secrets Ryan) and the much needed comedic relief from Carter and Peter. I feel every single person needs a dynamic duo like them in their lives; Bonkers included. This could easily be left as a stand alone, but I’d also love to see the emotional ups and downs the FMC and the MMC will have to face in their futures. They have quite the journey ahead. Another major honorable mention is how Kylee paints a mental scene. Not only did I feel like I was back on that pier in Seattle, but I could picture everything with ease. The sounds, the atmosphere, everything was painted so beautifully. Carter must’ve taken notes from her and put it into his artwork. 😉 I’m so thankful to have been given the chance to read this book before it’s released to the public. FEBRUARY 14th!! KEEP YOURS EYES OUT FOR THIS RELEASE AND GET YOUR HANDS ON IT ASAP.
🤍Thank you so much to BookSparks and the author for the gifted e-copy of this book! 🫶🏻
🧡Better Left Between Us by Kylee Clark made for a fantastic debut novel and I was hooked from the very beginning!
🤍I found myself connecting with Kylee’s writing early on as her brilliant wit and emotional storytelling really worked in harmony together creating a beautiful ride!
🧡I knew I would love this one as soon as it mentioned Friends & Gilmore Girls references early on (two of my favorites!) and I was so invested to see where Amelia’s life took her next after she started having dreams about a certain someone. 🤭
🤍I had so much fun exploring this world and learning about these characters. Amelia’s relationship with her best friend, Carter, was one of my favorite things as it was beyond sweet, beautifully supportive and all around such an adorable addition.
🧡If you want a lovely read that lets you experience real life moments, beautiful friendships, a dash of romance and an adorable furry sidekick named Bonkers… definitely give this one a read! 🫶🏻
I would like to thank the author, publisher, and Goodreads for gifting me Kylee Clark’s debut novel. This is a cannot put down book, and I do not want to put down book. I read this in two days, and am thinking that a sequel would be fabulous. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I will carry these characters, and this story with me for a long time. How I wish I had had a friend like Carter throughout my life. You, Kylee Clark, are a genius!
I LOVED this book! Amelia is such an amazing character and her dynamics with Carter, Peter and Ethan are fantastic. I couldn’t put it down! This is one of those books that you can read over and over again!
This book had me hooked from the first few pages, and then when I thought I got through all the twists and turns, more came! It was so fun to read with all the dynamic characters and the bustling Seattle scene. I absolutely adored Amelia and Carters friendship, Amelia’s determination for her work and of course the slow burn of this love story!
So good! And now it’s out now for everyone to read!! This is one of the best debut novels I’ve read, so make sure you give it a read!
As soon as I started this book I knew it would be a solid read, because it pulled me in right from the first page! She painted the picture of each of the character with just enough details so that while you’re reading the book you can visualize them! The book was very well written! The story line was very believable and realistic and it flowed perfectly!
If you’re looking for a cozy, emotional, yet lighthearted read, this is it. It’s the perfect blend of romance and comedy. I am a picky reader when it comes to writing styles, but this book was so easy to read and get lost in. Kylee really knows how to paint a picture and transport the readers into the scene. Also, the character development throughout the story was phenomenal, not only for Amelia but the supporting characters as well (Carter and Peter fan club over here!) :) I look forward to reading future novels!
The prologue of this debut romance novel grabbed me instantly and I was sure I was in for a roller coaster of a love triangle. Unfortunately that’s where the roller coaster ended for me. We heard very little about her relationship of 2 years with Ryan that ended. The MMC was rarely in the story and what we did see could of been better fleshed out. I felt like there was a lot of unnecessary information and other parts that needed to be further developed. The focus was much more about self-reflection and self-discovery for Amelia than a romance novel.
The best part of the book?! Carter! He is the kind of best friend every girl deserves. He was so supportive, hilarious and emotionally aware. Oh and her cat, Bonkers!
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I want to start by saying I don’t normally read modern romances, I usually read fantasy romances since most modern romances are predictable and boring but this book was the opposite. First of all this book takes place in Seattle and I used to live in Washington state. So the environmental descriptions were so beautifully written that I really felt like I was back in the crisp rainy weather I miss so much. I also like that this book did have slow burn tension and romance without explicit spice. This was a closed door romance, and I loved it. The main character Amelia is not written as an unrealistically perfect and put together character. She is very real with the stress of work and life making her very relatable, as well as her realistic emotions and how they affect her physically. Chaos is a normal thing for her and she has a gay best friend neighbor who is always there for her in all the best ways. His comedic relief and love for Amelia made the story so enjoyable knowing that she had someone on her side no matter what she was going through. Even his boyfriend flawlessly became part of their lives and treated Amelia as though they’d been friends forever. I also love that her mom is actually a good mother whereas most books either have dead or horrible mother characters. There were times where I thought I knew what would happen but turned out to be wrong which was great bc it made the story less predictable and kept me sucked in since I didn’t know what was going to happen. If I didn’t have kids I would’ve finished this book in a day. This was definitely a good read, and I am planning to buy the book so I have a physical copy when it releases.
Amelia looks back on the heartbreak and secrets that lead her to weigh the worth of risking everything when, Ethan, the one constant in Amelia’s life for fifteen years uninvites her from his wedding party. She’s not able to let their story end on this note and is determined to make one last stand before he says ‘I do’.
Before I truly begin with my review, please take it with a grain of salt as the majority of reviews currently on Goodreads are much more appreciative of this novel than mine is.
I absolutely loved the prologue of BETTER LEFT BETWEEN US. It was the perfect mix of fun, racy, and is filled with intrigue. I was sure I was in for a read that I wouldn’t forget and that I’d want to scream from the rooftops about. Unfortunately, the rest of the book wasn’t what I was expecting nor hoping for.
Although this is described as a romance, and while there are elements of romance, it’s much more a book that focuses on self-reflection and a journey of self-actualization for Amelia. She is in a place in her life where she is searching for happiness and love, and to find what will accomplish this, she’s navigating all the emotions that come with this type of introspection. That said, I did enjoy her journey, primarily because I loved Carter, Amelia’s close friend and neighbor. He’s the best friend a girl could ask for, always with the right advice for the moment, a helping hand at the ready, and an ear to listen whenever Amelia needs it.
Based on the prologue, I was expecting the romance to come to fruition early on within the story’s narrative; however, it’s a slow burn… but one that’s lacking anticipation, chemistry, and tension that I would have loved to have. I think the only saving grace is that the ending is the perfect complement to the prologue, despite a middle section that leaves room for desire.
Many thanks to BookSparks for a complimentary digital copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I won this book through a giveaway. It was touching, funny, frustrating, and all the things a good book should be. I don't really like books written in the first person, but it seems most books I've read recently are.
Amelia.. Ryan.. and Ethan.. and a little Blake on the side. This book started off strong for me, with Amelia ending her longtime relationship w/ Ryan.. she blocks him, gets rid of his stuff in her apartment and then the story of Ethan starts.. and ends.
I gave this book 3 stars. I didn't connect with the characters. It started out with a sense of women empowerment - to turn around and figure out her feelings about Ethan... who turns out to be engaged! She has a fling with Blake on the side (go girl!) to get her mind off of him.. but it's just so hard to wrap how she was about to move in with Ryan.. and the rest of the story is about Ethan. There was no downtime or recuperating from that relationship. And to think she ended her relationship with Ryan bec he cheated, but Ethan is kinda doing the same w/ his fiance.
All in all, the got their happily ever .. he called the wedding off an hour before their wedding. Thanks BookSparks & Kylee Clark for gifting me a copy of this ARC.
I won a kindle copy of this book through Goodreads giveaways.
The book opens with the FMC crashing the wedding of the MMC because she has feelings for him. Then you go back in time to learn the story of how this came to be. If you feel strongly about emotional cheating this probably isn’t the book for you.
I loved the FMC’s relationships with her friends. They carried the book for me. For a romance book the FMC and MMC barely interact.
I think this is a good debut novel. I would definitely read another book by this author.
An emotional love story all about finding your way and second chances.
Growing up, Amelia had two best friends - Ryan and Ethan. After college, when Amelia chooses Ryan to date, it seemingly ends her friendship with Ethan. Until Ryan reveals his true colors, and Amelia unblocks Ethan’s phone number. What happens next is an emotional journey of self discovery, deeper connections, and a lot of laughter along the way.
I adored Ethan and his long-lasting love for Amelia. The way that he pined for her for so many years, was truly heartwarming. But, I don’t think I’m alone when I say that Amelia’s neighbor and new best friend, Carter, stole the show. Everyone deserves a Carter in their life. Someone who will pick you up when you’re down, who will push in all the right directions, and who will give you their unending support!
This debut novel is one that you should add to your TBR, especially if you like: 💕 Second chance romance 💕 Childhood friends to lovers 💕 Found family 💕 Emotional romance
Thank you, partner, BookSparks, and the author, Kylee Clark, for providing an ebook. All opinions are my own!
If you are looking for an edge of your seat book this one is for you. You will be hooked by page one. You will be guessing throughout what is going to happen until the end. The ending was one of the best I have ever read. This also is the author’s debut. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I loved this debut by Kylee Clark! I enjoyed how the book began with NOW for the prologue and then took you back to THEN. It gave me just enough taste for what was to come without giving away most of the plot or the ending. Such a fun way to build anticipation and excitement for the story! The characters were relatable and funny and the flow was great. If you’re a fan of second chance romances and adorable felines, check this book out!
You will like this one if you love the tropes 🌷Second Chance 💍Right person, wrong time 🌷Friends to lovers 💍Unrequited Love
Maybe spoilers ahead 🚨
My Review So I struggled to get thru this one. I felt like there was a lot of unneeded info and the book could have been shorter. I also felt like she needed more time before she got with Ethan. Let’s not get into Ethan’s situation because no. She was in a relationship with Ryan for I think 2 years and immediately was onto Ethan the moment they broke up. I think a lot of Ryan’s secrets were thrown in for shock factor. Anyways Ryan could have been taken out of the equation. He was kinda thrown in there. I loved her neighbor. He was the best part of the story for me. Ethan and Amelia’s chemistry was off for me and maybe it’s because he has a fiancé. Idk maybe I found a trope I’m not a fan of ?
Thank you @booksparks for this arc! #betterleftbetweenus

The debut novel by Kylee Clark begins with Amelia Gale crashing the wedding of her best friend Ethan who uninvited her. The story flashes back to tell the story of what led to that moment.
What I liked—it was lighthearted, descriptive, and reminiscent of My Best Friend’s Wedding. I loved the character of Carter, Amelia’s next door neighbor. He was always looking out for her and they had great chemistry.
Spoilers:
My rating explained: I just couldn’t connect to the other characters. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Amelia and Ethan. The whole storyline with Ryan seemed thrown in there. She was with him for two years, but as soon as he cheated she started thinking about Ethan. That didn’t make sense to me. The plot felt drug out. They did have a happy ending though and overall it was a cute story.
I look forward to reading more of Ms Clark’s novels snd watching her grow as a writer.

A lovely second chance - friends to lovers romance. Very heartfelt characters, with depth and emotions, along with a realistic "painting" of Seattle. I really enjoyed this novel.
Better Left Between Us by Kylee Clark is a deeply emotional debut that walks the line between romance and personal reckoning. It’s not just about love—it’s about timing, friendship, and the weight of unspoken truths. If you’re looking for a story that trades insta-love and tidy endings for real-life messiness, heartbreak, and personal growth, this one’s for you.
The story follows Amelia Gale, who finds herself doing the one thing she never thought she would—crashing a wedding. But not just any wedding: her best friend Ethan’s. The man who’s been in her life for fifteen years, who once meant everything, and who now has chosen to uninvite her from the biggest day of his life. It’s a bold start, full of emotion and tension, and sets the stage for a story that isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions.
At first glance, this looks like a romance—and in some ways it is. But more than anything, this book is a slow, introspective journey through Amelia’s past, her heartbreaks, and her long-held regrets. It’s a portrait of a woman trying to make sense of her choices, her worth, and what kind of love she actually deserves. The romantic tension with Ethan simmers throughout, but it’s not your usual will-they-won’t-they. Instead, it’s layered with guilt, timing, and years of missed opportunities.
One of the most consistent critiques of the book—and I’d agree—is that the middle can drag a little. The prologue is sharp and racy, filled with voice and intrigue that suggests we’re in for something big. But the pacing slows down after that, focusing on emotional reflection more than plot momentum. That said, if you’re here for character-driven fiction with deep emotional introspection, you’ll appreciate the space the author gives to Amelia’s internal world.
Now let’s talk about Carter. If this book had a true breakout star, it’s him. Carter is Amelia’s neighbor, best friend, and comic relief—but he’s also the emotional glue holding her together. His presence in the story is comforting, honest, and joyful. Every scene he’s in brings balance to the heavier moments. He listens, challenges, comforts, and even outshines the romantic leads in some ways. Everyone deserves a Carter. Seriously.
Kylee Clark’s writing shines most in her ability to create atmosphere. Her descriptions of Seattle, from the sounds of the pier to the feel of the air, are immersive without being overwrought. You’re not just reading about a place—you’re dropped into it. That sense of place adds depth to the story’s emotions, grounding Amelia’s journey in something tangible and real.
Now, a quick note for romance readers: if you’re expecting steamy chemistry and high-tension angst, this might feel quieter than expected. The romantic moments are there, but they’re slow, sometimes frustratingly so, and aren’t always the focal point. There’s also cheating—both emotional and physical—that could be a deal-breaker for some. It’s not glamorized, but it is part of the messy reality the characters face.
In the end, Better Left Between Us is more than a love story. It’s about the things we say too late, the friendships that shape us, and the courage it takes to face our own reflection. Amelia doesn’t always make the right decisions. In fact, she often doesn’t. But that’s what makes her feel real. Her journey isn’t about perfection—it’s about growth, and learning to show up for yourself when it matters most.
As a debut, it’s impressive. Raw, heartfelt, and often beautifully written, it sets the stage for a promising future for Kylee Clark. And while the story could easily stand alone, there’s enough emotional depth here to leave readers hoping for more.
Come for the love story, stay for the emotional reckoning, and leave thinking about your own “what ifs.”
This book had a lot of pros and cons. I rated it a 4 because it is a debut novel and it had good inspiration. I enjoyed the story line 90% of the time. I am not a fan of cheating and prefer not to have that in my life, but there was not only physical cheating but also emotional cheating in this book and that took the book down a bit. I enjoyed Amelia's character and wish she could have found her self worth earlier than when she did, but am so excited for her that she did. There are too many women who never find that. Cater absolutely stole the show. He was the BFF that anyone needs and not many find. He knew Amelia (Ames) better than she knew herself. Amelia's mom was also perfection. I hope that I can be that in-tune with my children when they are adults and don't need me as much. Overall, I think people who love romance will enjoy this book and you should pick it up.
Thank you for the copy, this is my honest opinion. Please be aware of any trigger warnings, as your mental health is most important. #BookSparks2025
Better Left Between Us is a heartful romance story about love, heartbreak, second chances and best friends.
The love story between Amelia and Ethan is one that most anyone could relate to, happy, sad, frustrated gives all the emotions.
Carter is the best friend to Amelia and someone everyone needs in their life. He's there for her through thick and thin and knows when to push knows when to listen and in all just shows up.
I also love that her mom is actually a good mother whereas most books either have dead or horrible mother characters.
Living in WA state and not far from Seattle Kylee Clark wrote the descriptions of the scenes beautifully to where you can mentally see yourself there even if you've never visited the area.
This was a good enjoyable refreshing read.
Thank you BookSparks and Kylee Clark for this ARC to read and review
Wow, what an angsty book that kept me on the edge of my seat. This book kept my attention right from the prologue. This story is about 2 best friends that are not willing to tell each other. Time and circumstance have them drifting apart for 2 years.
After Amelia is heartbroken, she decides to unblock Ethan, her best friend of 15 years. Timing and decisions do not align throughout the book. Miscommunication causes heartbreak and hurt throughout the entire book
This is a heartfelt romance that will captivate you from start to finish. Amelia’s journey is full of chemistry, vulnerability, and growth. You’ll be cheering for her every step of the way!
With its perfect mix of romance, real-world struggles, and unforgettable characters, Better Left Between Us is a must-read for any romance novel fan.
Reading this made me feel like I know what Seattle is like without ever having visited, Kylee Clark I cannot wait to read what magic you create next!
Better Left Between Us by Kylee Clark is like a mug of warm cider in your hands while wrapped in a cozy blanket in front of a crackling fireplace, complete with all the feels. A story about love, heartbreak and second chances, this book is a reminder to be bold, take risks and most of all, be true to yourself.
The characters in this book are relatable and loveable and the care put into the development of the different relationships truly makes the book. Carter is the best friend that everyone needs in their life. Someone who is by your side through thick and thin, who knows when to push, when to just listen but most importantly……always shows up. Whether with pizza and a movie, a bottle of champagne to celebrate or a night out to wash away the tears…..whatever the occasion calls for. The relationship between Amelia and Carter brings a special dynamic to the book as does the relationship with her mother.
As for the love story, I don’t want to give anything away there, but it is one that I think we can all relate to in one way or another. Happy, sad, frustrated....there are plenty of emotions to be had.
This book was an easy read. It came with a mix of emotions, especially as different parts connected on a personal level which I think it will for many. It is a story that will warm your heart.
Thank you to Booksparks for the opportunity to read and review this book. It was a refreshing read.
