Welcome to Season Five of Murders Under the Sun, a podcast that takes a trip to the dark side of sunny Southern California. I’m your host, Molly Shure.
Honey Wells wanted her first hike of the year to change her life. Exercise, eat right, and reduce stress—it was all to start with a simple hike in Black Star Canyon. But her New Year’s resolution didn’t include finding a dead body half-buried in the mud.
Honey’s world unravels. Her brother-in-law has stolen her savings. Her business is struggling. And now she’s caught in a police investigation. As panic attacks begin to destroy her, Honey hires a new assistant, only to discover the woman may be the victim of an abusive cult. Meanwhile, threatening e-mails from her brother-in-law promise more trouble.
A bullet-riddled sign warns the uninvited to stay away from the cult compound in Black Star Canyon. But Honey Wells has questions, and she knows the answers are hidden at the end of the long road behind that locked gate.
Unlock The Keep to reveal its mysteries.

Hosted by Molly Shure, this podcast recounts the tale of Honeysuckle Wells, a baker who suffers from panic attacks. Though she's still miffed that her husband Booker kept a huge secret from her (the loan of $50000 to his ne'er-do-well brother), Honey agrees to accompany him on a hike to get some well-needed exercise. Stopping to rest, she notices a boot left behind and piqued, she kicks it, leading to the discovery of a hidden body. What had begun as a harmless bit of exercise, now launches a murder investigation propelling Honey and Booker into danger.
Whenever I pick up a Greta Boris book, I know the day will be devoted to reading. The Keep was no exception. The story began with an innocuous scene, but before I could catch my breath, we were off! It is almost impossible to stop reading when the storytelling is completely addictive. Having met Honey in a previous podcast episode, I was instantly invested in her new experiences and began routing for her success. When her friends, relatives and a mysterious stranger were added to the mix, the plot became intoxicating.
As far as being an investigator, Honey is a chef. In many books, the detectives are amateurs. In this book, our sleuth is a rank amateur and that gives spice to the plot. That's not to say that Honey was bumbling around, more that she was in over her head and barely able to keep from drowning. Rather than seeming ridiculous, the scenarios were believable and compelling.
Since each book builds on the previous ones, it's important to read this series in order, to gain the full effect of the experience. This thriller is tame as far as language and sexuality are concerned, but some scenes are particularly violent. Do not expect a cosy read!
Thank you to Greta Boris and Book Funnel for the chance to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own, honest and true.
Lost and Found Our heroine goes through quite a few stressful events…her daughter moved away (not too far, but So Cal traffic and all that), her work schedule sans assistant is overwhelming, her diet needs to drastically change due to health concerns, etc. When when she & her husband find a corpse, Honey REALLY starts to lose it!
I really enjoy the ongoing pop-up thread of the podcast’s hostess working on closed cases. Especially, the listeners who reach out regarding similar circumstances that are hopefully related - with the intent of finally catch the guilty party/parties. Justice does take a village…
I appreciate that the author incorporated a serious social concern in this tale. In many cultures, food goes hand in hand with comfort. Lack thereof leads to food insecurity then possibly to food hoarding or even binge-eating during times of stress. I’d be willing to bet that a tray full of Honey’s apple habanero dessert tamales could fix any problems – right quick! I’ll look up some recipes while I await the next in series - ‘The Manor’.
May we all find balance in our lives so that we can know peace and truly enjoy the gift of life that we have received.
This is another episode in The Almost True Crime Stories tied together with what has happened before. This time it's the story of Honey and Booker as they go through their lives after Honey feels betrayed by her husband when he took money out of their joint accounts and gave it to his brother. The are out one afternoon hiking in the hills and Honey runs into a shoe hanging out of the ground, unfortunately, it has a leg attached. The police investigate them as suspects. Honey has a cooking small appliance and gadget store that she is feeling overwhelmed with right now that their daughter has moved to San Diego and is eventually talked into hiring a girl she met when she was doing food at the local Catholic church. Angela appears and answer to her dreams. Honey starts having anxiety attacks and Angela runs the store while she is out. What started out as a God send suddenly takes a turn that no one saw coming. Enjoying how all of the stories are tying into each other even if it is only the Red Ravish wine.
On this episode of the Murders Under the Sun podcast we hear the story of Honey Wells, we met her and her husband Booker in the previous installment of the series were we learned that Booker had given $50000 to his brother Joe without consulting or letting Honey know. Well, on this episode we hear what happened to Joe and find Honey in mortal danger. Every time i read one of Greta's books I say that it is my favorite one, until I read the newest book, and then I have a favorite one! I love this series, I love the format of the story and Molly's voice. And now, it seems that we are going to get some type of closure to the other mystery inside the mystery, the old case of the missing students. This is an extraordinary book and a good addition to the series, the plot has so many twists and turns that when you finally learn who the culprit is you won't believe it. I'm so looking forward to the next book and Willow's story.
While I enjoyed the Honey's story, I found it to be a little slower paced than the others. Honey is a trusting and generous person who has been dealt too many blows in her life. When she and her husband, Booker find a body, Honey's anxiety causes her to have a panic attack. She decides to hire a girl she met at the food kitchen where she volunteers. Angela seems like the perfect replacement at the shop, for her daughter, Willow. But is she? Strange things are going on with Angela and Honey is determined to find out, but at what cost. I would recommend this book. It can be read as a standalone, but is is much better if you have read the books before as some of the previous characters are mentioned. I received an advance copy of this book via the author and this is my honest review.
The author delivers a story that will pull you in. Honey is part of a family in turmoil. The turmoil comes from family interactions. Turns out that not everyone was on the up and up. That drags the family into a deadly game of who did it?
Honey is the nicest person you would want to meet, and she is also looking to help everyone and anyone. But is this the way to do it? The twist and turns of the story will wrap the plot around you and leave you wondering at the next move. Who will make it? Who can you trust? What will you do?
A very good story for those who like mysteries combined with a lot of human interest.
In this episode of Murders Under the Sun we again meet the lovely Honey Wells. Unfortunately Honey isn't having the best time of it. She has been told by her doctor that she needs to exercise more and cut out sugar from her diet, so her firefighting husband who loves the great outdoors and hiking decides that it will do her good to hike into Black Star Mountain but things take a sinister turn when Honey discovers a body! And if you think that that is bad enough for Honey to start having panic attacks think again! There are so many twists in this episode it will have your head spinning and your heart thumping.
OMG this was so good! This podcast covers the adventure of Honey Wells, a baker turned amateur sleuth in this thrilling and gripping read. Out for a hike, Honey and her hubby come across a dead body and the murder investigation begins! Honey is at a time in her life when she feels everything is spiralling out of control, her husband betrays her, her daughter moves away and now she finds a dead body!! It’s a great read, brimming with twists and turns to keep you guessing, turmoil, anxiety, danger, drama, mystery, intrigue and a little intensity and it had me hooked and on the edge of my seat!
The Keep (An Almost True Crime Story Book 5), my eighth read from author Greta Boris. It's not just the storyline, but the podcast format format is appealing and fresh as well. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author with Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: A Ghostly Mortician Murder Mystery (The Mortician Murders Book 2) already on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.
What an emotional rollercoaster of a ride this was for both Honey and Booker. Sometimes empaths, and Honey is an empath, get it so terribly wrong. Honey's misjudgement of a certain person almost ended in tragedy. Jonathan sounds a bit too good to be true. I look forward to discovering if he is Willow's "Prince Charming" or "Prince of Darkness".
I received a free Advance Reader Copy of The Keep through BookFunnel and have chosen to leave a review.
I can’t say how much I love this series, every book is a cracking read. One which I could not put down. Each book is about a different person, one which we’ve usually met before in some capacity or other. I loved it, from start to finish. Two things set us on this fantastic journey, a walk with her husband and hiring a shop assistant. What is the next one going to be about I wonder, cannot wait. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I'm really enjoying this series and this book is no exception. All of the books are tied together, with characters that cross over. But sometimes they're the main character and sometimes they're not. As a result, you end up seeing them through different lenses. It's really original and fun. I can't wait to see how they all tie together in the end (even though I don't really look forward to an end.) Recommended, for sure. I received an ARC, but this is my honest opinion.
Book #5 of the An Almost True Crime Story podcast series. This has been a most enjoyable series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but will all connect in the end. Each story focuses on one or two of the inhabitants of a small community. Each one involves a murder, a mystery and a conclusion. Great stories, great characters, great author. Thoroughly enjoyed the read I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving my opinion of the tale.
Season 5 of Molly Shure's podcast is another great story. This season Honey Wells discovers a body. Honey suffers from panic attacks which of course is problematic after finding a dead body. Greta Boris deals with Honey's personal issues really well while weaving this story. It is told from the point of view of multiple people which gives you different perspectives on what is going on. This is a great read.
“The Keep” is an excellent read! The characters are likable and I found myself being slowly drawn into their lives. But the next thing I knew, there were some twists and turns thrown in, and I was so invested I was worried about what was happening. You’ll never believe how this story twists and turns and who, ultimately, is the culprit. Highly recommend it!
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.
Great mystery story based in sunny Southern California. Who doesn’t love a great keep you guessing mystery story? The Keep is definitely that! Twists will keep you guessing until the end as you try to figure out the who, what, when and why. Characters and location come to life in this well scripted story. You won’t want to miss reading this one.
This was insanely wild! I had my doubts about a certain character…not saying more. I felt for Honey and her health issues, I am dealing with that as well. Felt sorry for her that she also was dealing with doubt about Booker and Joe, stressing about having to hire someone to help her with the shop. I am just happy that she had such good friends surrounding her. This was FANTASTIC!
This book was an action packed, page turning, could not put down. Honey and her husband go for a walk and find something no one wants to find. Full of twists and turns with new characters popping up. Great read!
Great suspense I received an ARC of this book. I love this series! I love this unique approach to telling these stories. The characters are very relatable. These books are packed with suspense. Highly recommend!
Wickedly good and scary indeed. These characters shine in their respective roles. You will be looking over your shoulder with every sound and enjoying every minute of it. Masterful. Highly Recommended.
this is such a wonderful series! I cannot get enough! Lots of twists and turns, murder and mayhem haunting witty story! Complex interesting characters with unpredictable outcomes! A real page turner and a must read!
I really enjoyed this book. Weird from start to ending. So far I have enjoyed the entire series and looking forward to the next book. Anxious to see how it all ties up together.
The Keep was a intriguing read. It had intense moments and kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait for the next installment!
Greta Boris delivererd another thrilling and entertaining story that keeps you reading and at the edge of your seat. I can truly recommend the entire series.
This was another fascinating book by Greta Boris based on true crime in a pod cast form that is so unique. This book is a you can't put it down variety and so entertaining.
Honey had questions and thought she could find them easily. What a surprise she had, danger instead of answers, how will she figure everything out. Each book seems to get better if possible.
