Possible Dream: Devastating Tragedy Leads to Extraordinary Triumph

“If someone does not come along and provide us the opportunity, . . . we will never know what we are missing or capable of. And neither will they.”- Anna

Anna’s quest to understand how the brain operates might have started as an escape from the confines of her autistic existence, but when her housemate Daniel is in grave danger of losing all that he holds dear, she vows to do everything in her power to see to it that his remarkable artistic talent survives the amputation of his gangrenous hand. Anna doggedly pursues every lead and, in doing so, discovers that the very thing that might solve Daniel’s problem could reshape and substantially improve the health care of all those with disabilities.

Through her singular focus on helping another, Anna sheds light not only on the compassion and selflessness of those with autism but also on their insight and nonverbal intelligence. But will her voice make a difference?

There are many books about autism, but few are fiction stories taken from real life and co-authored by someone with autism. This story is told entirely from the main character, Anna's, point of view and provides real insight into what living with autism is like from the inside.

But it is not just about autism. It presents the real possibility of using new technologies and treatments for neuro and physical remediation, including neurofeedback therapy, reflex integration, BCI (Brain Computer Imaging), and IMR (Immersive Virtual Reality).

My autistic daughter's words were the impetus for Possible Dream, and Meaghan is the role model for Anna. Although the character is fictional, her voice is very real, garnered from the numerous exchanges Meg and I have had over the years as we worked tirelessly to build her independent typing skills.

Meaghan does believe that there can be a better future for everyone with disabilities, not just those with autism. And this better future can start today if minds are open and made aware of the possibilities.

As she
"I have goals in my life just like everyone else. An important one is to teach others about autism. Understanding is the key to getting better services and results. I want to spread the word that autism is not something to fear but rather something to have respect for."

No one person or one book can make the change that is needed alone. The first step is understanding. That is why this book was written. The next one is action. That is why we need to add to Anna's voice. Please enjoy our book and help us in this quest!
