Running is always easier. Tori McLeod moved to the big city to get away from her mother—and her past. Her new routine is destroyed when she meets a mysterious stranger who won’t take no for an answer. Sebastian intrigues her, but his eyes hold secrets she would rather avoid. Sebastian Chelios, a hard-as-nails enforcer, is a new-in-town loner. He has to have her. Control her. Possess her. But he can’t—won’t—lose control, even though Tori’s innocence fascinates him. The last thing he’s going to do is love her, even after he gets her in his bed.Losing control is dangerous, especially when someone from Sebastian’s past covets Tori, putting more than just her heart in danger. Can Sebastian protect Tori from Jose’s sadistic obsession? If he gets his hands on her, will she make it out in one piece?
Hmmm....I don't know what to say on this book. The teaser definitely grabbed my attention, so I jumped in expecting to love it. While I loved how it started, I wasn't too happy with the ending. Don't even get me started on the middle, I think I was more confused the more I read. So it starts out with our heroine, Tori always spotting this hot guy (Sebastian) in the coffee shop she hits up everyday. He's all dark and mysterious. Well, fast forward and all of a sudden he's noticing her too. They have their first little chat in the shop over coffee and I was already confused. See he talked to her like he already knew her....did it go back and explain why he would so the reader would connect? Nope. Did it explain why the hero so obviously stole her phone to put a GPS in it? Nope. She's freaking looking at her purse and one minute the phone is there, he sits back down after buying her a coffee and boom, the phone's back in it. What is he? Freaking Houdini? She makes a best friend with a waitress in the coffee shop. Blah blah blah....they are besties...blah blah they go out to a club and meet the club owner/her bestie's brother Brett. Come to find out, this is Sebastian's place to "hang". So of course, Tori looks around and spots him hanging by the wall all cool and stuff. Well, almost INSTANTLY, Brett wants Tori and of course, Tori doesn't want him, she wants Sebastian. He sees Sebastian and is all like "Awhhh hell no, he ain't supposed to be up in my club. I hate this guy. I hate him, I hate him I hate him!(cue foot stomping)" But see Tori's all like " Awee hell dawg, this be my boo, bes' be backin up and don't be gettin in my man's face" So, bam, bam , bam, Tori and Sebastian are all having dance sex on the dance floor and he's all like "babe, your place now" and then all of a sudden "cue scary Jaw's music" Jose is there staring at them. I know, right??!??! Jose! Can you believe it? I mean, Can you believe it? And guess what...it's a hate triangle baby. Sebastian hate's Jose and Brett. Jose hates Sebastian and Brett and...that's right chica...Brett hate Jose and Sebastian. This is where we start getting confused. Sooo, continuing back to the story, you see all 3 hate each other. They almost get in some weird orgy fight, but our heroine breaks it up..sort of. Now let's examine something here now that all the characters are thrown out there. Sebastian only visit's his booty call Tori about once every few weeks. With having sex once (3rd meeting) they are in love and she feels like she can just demand to know what's going on with him one minute. Then telling herself she barely know's and trusts him the next. She loves him, but doesn't know him. I mean they fall basically in love together and all they do is have doggy style sex. That's it! Then there's the whole CONFUSING mess of what he does and why he's partner's with JOSE AND BRETT obviously, but always denying he is. Then Jose is saying their partners, then he's saying he isn't. Then Brett warns her away Jose and Sebastian but then doesn't know why. Then he loves her, then he hates her. Then Jose hates her, then he's obsessed with her. Then Sebastian is all "Stay away from Jose" but Jose starts stalking and calling her all the time, but somehow it's her fault? Whattt?? Then bamn! It ends and Sebastian is "dead". Yay....what a good book? This book was so confusing. I did not like the writing style, it seemed all over the place. I couldn't catch up. It's like the author wanted so much to happen but didn't know how on earth to bring it all together. Maybe the second book will be better when Sebastian get's his second chance at life.
OMG where do I start. Break Me by JoAnna Walker, new author, first book was absolutely amazing. It’s so difficult to put into words so here goes. Tori McLeod moves away from her mother and to the big city in hopes of finding a job and to continue with school Sebastian Chelios is the muscle for an illegal business let’s say. He’s got to be the hottest, sexiest, bad-ass boy from he’s steaming dark eyes, the tats that adorn his body to the nipple piercings. JoAnna scrumptiously describes him in this book. You just can’t help melting. Sebastian and Tori meet in a little coffee shop around from her apartment and the attraction is instant, and I mean instant. The first few chapters totally grab your attention and never let’s go. NEVER. Sebastian is so mesmerized by Tori, Tori is his obession, his distraction, his undoing (and as the story unfolds you will understand) that he loses all self control and falls in love with her. Believe me Tori feels the same. There are other key players in this story, Keisha who befriends Tori and is the barista at the coffee shop, Jose (a psychotic bastard) obsessed with Tori is a sick way, Brett who is Keisha’s stepbrother and the owner of a club. I was trying to figure out how these three men were connected and OMG you do find out. But not from me. You need to read the book I will not spoil for anyone. As the story literally grabs you in and takes you through a roller coaster of emotions, intrigue and suspense you think you’re piecing the puzzle together than WHAM so off base. I have to admit my heart was crushed to pieces and I cried, yes I cried as I read the last few chapters of the story. And OMG at the very end the Letter, Yes the Letter I just so lost it. I really lost it. I’m dying here I so can’t wait for “Always Me” to be released she killed me with the end of the first book. JoAnna I so give this book 5* you deserve every single one plus some.
I picked this up because the blurb caught my attention. I must admit I'm kind of disappointed. Ah, who am I kidding? I am NOT a happy camper.
Let's start with the basics first. I found Tori, semi annoying. She's easy to manipulate. And her whining just kinda pissed me off.
Sebastian is...I'm not going to say he made me swoon, because I didn't. I mean there were moments where I was just like "Damn!" He's very secretive.
I'm not going to say this was a terrible book, because it wasn't. It was mediocre. There was enough to make me keep going. It started out great, it really did but as I kept reading I just ended up disappointed. There was a lot that bothered me. For one, I felt like it was insta-love. Well, maybe not insta love, it just seemed like these two fell in love super fast and they didn't really know anything about each other. I think it was more lust than anything.
And every time something bad happened (Que Jose) it was brought up that Tori and Sebastian needed to talk and yet nothing was ever said. They would just agree that a conversation needed to happen but then it was just sex. Nothing was really explained. Who is Sebastian? What did he go through? And I'm just sitting here thinking "you have all these questions and yet you don't ask him anything? Because sex will solve all of your problems." (eye roll) And damn it if Tori doesn't bring Ana from Fifty Shades to mind with her "oh, my" bullshit. Really bitch?
And let's not forget that any time, and I mean ANY time Jose made an appearance, Sebastian would tell Tori to stay away from him, which is understandable, but every time Sebastian disappeared Jose would call her, and I mean right after Sebastian would leave, and it's like "Really, Tori? Just hang up the fucking phone."
Another thing about Tori that really irked me was when Jose touched her, she'd go from cussing him out to this scared little girl that would beg for him not to touch her. And I'm screaming at my Kindle "You fucking dumbass! He isn't going to stop just because you say please!" (another eye roll)
And I promise after this I'm done with my complaining. That ending. Nothing gets explained. Nothing. Sure we get a semi rundown of what his life was like growing up but there were no details. And he dies?! He can't fucking die! It really doesn't make sense to me, I mean FBI guy is saying they have his body and yet when Tori moves back to her home town she receives a letter to her NEW apartment, that she JUST moved into, from Sebastian? What kind of sense does that even make?
Now I'm done complaining.
I'm not really going to recommend this to anyone, I *might* pick up the next one. And that's a big MIGHT.
Oh man I could just about scream right about now! I mean for real?? Like I omg! Super hot book, sizzling sex scenes and a whole lot of suspense. But freaking cliffhanger to make you want to punch somebody. I really only wish there had been a little more romance between the main characters to make the "love" more believable. I am diving into book 2 and hoping for more growth ..but don't skimp on the smut..that was perfect!
Well I've never been so frustrated and confused at a book. Yet there I was turning the pages like a mad woman
I can't give too much detail about the characters without revealing the book but let's see, Sebastian: I loved him then hated him then wanted to cry for him. Also I wanted to have sex with him Tori: Mostly she was that annoying whiny heroine who just NEVER listens or do what she's told. I felt bad for her at some points but not that much because she was that much of a pain. I prefer strong kick ass females Jose: he's a sadistic psychotic f$*k
All in all the book will make you want to through your kindle across the room but then run over and pick it up to see what happens Not to mention the typical frustrating WTF cliffhanger
I can't even really say whether I loved or hated this book but I give it 4 stars for completely messing with my emotions so much
A very strong 4.5 Stars. I read during the editing phase and LOVED it. Jo-Anna has done and exceptional job for her debut. I will give a full review when the time comes xoxo Good Luck and very very best wishes Jo
Break Me was an awesome read, it starts the Shattered Series off with a bang, and keeps giving to the last page. It kept my attention all the way through and left me with the actual need to start the next book right away, it was that good. I have read a lot of books in the last year but this one was different, it was exceptional, in that it invoked my feelings from the start and had me holding my breath at some parts, scared to read what was going to happen next! It had a great story line, and a plot that did not quit! I thought I could see what was going to happen in different parts and when I would get there it was totally different than what I thought! Break Me had a wonderful cast of characters. In the beginning we meet Tori McLeod, a young woman who is working as a Barista in a coffee place. Tori left her home to get away from her Mom, as they did not get along, and although she started going to college on a scholarship, she is just living day to day. Here she meets what turns out to be her best friend Keisha who also works as a Barista. Keisha has a brother, Brett, who owns a club, and another character named Gerrit who none of them know is an FBI agent. Gerrit is a very domineering man and he wants Keisha, and we will see where this goes in book 2.
The other main character in this book is Sebastian Chelios, and this book centers around Tori and Sebastian. Tori starts noticing him when he stops by for coffee, quite often, and she is captivated by him. Sebastian is also captivated by her, which attracts unwanted attention from his business partner Jose, who is a very evil man. This brings up the question-is Sebastian a good guy or is he every bit as tainted and evil like Jose? You will have to read this book to find out. This book starts getting really intense, and towards the end something really bad happens to Tori and to Sebastian as well, and it changes Tori's life. If you like to read books in a series, like I do, this is a great series for you. Each book picks up where the last one ended. This book has a cliff hanger that you will not believe, and since I had not read book 2 yet, it broke my heart what happened, this book was so well written you feel like you were there living the story with the characters, This book also had really great sex scenes, and Sebastian is portrayed as a very powerful alpha male, and Tori falls in love with him really fast. One other thing-make sure you have tissues handy because you will be laughing and crying before this book is over. I gave this book a 5*****star rating, and it was well earned.
All I can do is shake my head. It was like watching a hit and run without getting a look at the license plate. It started out normal enough. Girl meets smoking hot guy. Guy steals girl's phone and puts a GPS tracker in it. Whoa!!! What? They've gone from complete strangers eye-f***ing in a coffee shop to I need a tracker on this girl?!? Okayyyyyyyy. Yep, I can see it. "Hi. I am a complete stranger and I need to put a tracker on your phone in the middle of a very dangerous situation you know nothing about and may get you shot/raped and or killed because you are just that hot". The guy is just thinking ahead right? Moving on. Then girl gives strange hot guy not only her phone number (fine) but her ADDRESS? (Too bad she didn't know about the tracker... could have saved time and paper) It doesn't get any better from there. All the relationships in the book seem to go from zero to sixty. For example, complete stranger one minute to life long BFF who will risk having a target painted on her back by a psycho to provide you safe haven.Neither of the women in the book show much interest in self preservation either. Warning signs flash by faster and faster "STOP! Straight drop to hell ahead!" without one tap on the brakes. The heroine in particular hits the gas and light a match. The plot is very convoluted (in a scratch your head. I must have missed something way). In contrast to other elements of the plot that are patently obvious. The cherry on top is the fact it ends in a cliffhanger. The sex at least was very hot. ;-)
This book was not for me.Tori is gullible, naive, weak, and annoying. That's all I got from 33% and that's not good. She finds Sebastian dangerous and mysterious, but because he's hot she thinks with her lady parts and jumps his bones. By the way she doesn't know anything about him and has full trust in him.
Didn't know much about Sebastian except he likes sex with Tori and he's possessive.
wow just wow! what a way to start a series! she wanted to get away from her past and mother. only the guy she meets is not a good guy. his boss is a real sick man that he must keep away from her. read to find out what happens.
This author sure knows how write a darn good book! Sebastian and Tori are hot from the beginning to the very end! This is a love story with a twist of suspense! Highly recommended in my book!!
I'll be honest and say that I was torn between reviewing and doing a promo post for this Blog Tour as I wasn't sure if I was really going to enjoy this book, but I'll hold my hand up and say that I'm so happy I ended up picking to review it! This book was amazing! It really surprised me! This book is definitely an 18+ book though! It has some scenes that definitely aren't appropriate for anyone under that age to read! The plot was amazing, but it was full of sex! No joke! I didn't really see much plot development until about the last 20% which is where the plot just exploded and everything that you had been waiting for happened in that space of time! It was brilliant! I think this book is the first book I've read that's really done that! The plot blew me away! I will admit that one particular scene near the end did have me fearing for the main character and I was quite surprised that it was in there! I didn't really think that it would have went that far, but I guess you never know what some people are capable of! I did think the plot was a little strange! I haven't really read another book with the same kind of plot as this book had, so I kind of didn't really know what to expect! The characters were amazing! Tori was the main character and I loved her! She was just an average person who was basically in the wrong place at the wrong time! She had a bit of spunk to her that came out at several points in the book and I loved that she stood up for herself! My heart went out to Tori at several points in this book and I actually cried at the end for her! She went through quite a journey in this book, but she was an amazing character! Sebastian was the love interest of Tori and he was smoking hot! He made me swoon! He was so possessive of Tori that it kind of made me love him even more considering the situation they were in! Sebastian and Tori had so much sexual tension when they were around each other! It was like they were on fire! It was explosive! I loved them as a couple! Jose was such a creep! I'm not even going to lie! He was the villain in this book and I just wanted to punch him! He infuriated me and what he did to Tori was disgusting and vile! The ending of this book leaves so much unanswered! It makes you question everything that you've just read! It was so weird! I definitely won't ruin it for you though by telling you what happens though! I will definitely continue reading this series! Break Me surprised me and I really enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to reading the next book and seeing where it'll go especially after the ending to this book! The cover is also hot! It definitely suits the book! The models on the front are how I pictured Tori and Sebastian while reading the book! Big thank you to Jo-Anna for an ARC of Break Me and to Brenda from Twinsie Talk Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!
First off I would like to thank Jo-Anna for providing me with an ARC copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.
If I could give this book 10 stars I would! In fact this is my review, I give this book 10 stars!
The book grabbed me from the get, go and I’m fast becoming a book adrenaline junkie.
Tori is a woman who takes no bull from anyone, regardless of how scared she might really be feeling. That mouth could get her into trouble though. She is bad-ass and has so much strength of character that you can’t help but fall in love with her. Sebastian (sigh) is a man with a mission and Tori is seriously distracting him from his mission. He is the bad boy with the really, really bad boy job. He dark, he’s mysterious and he sexy. You just wanna take him home and lose yourself in him for a good ould while.
These are two people that are drawn to each other and the sexual chemistry is explosive. The sex scenes in the book are smoking and you’ll need to keep the cold shower on hand. They’re sure to melt your e-reader.
Break Me, had me on the edge of my seat, my heart at times was in my mouth and then it’d drop to my stomach. Jo-Anna has managed to pull me through a whole range of emotions with this book and left me wanting more.
The twists are turns are unexpected and really do come at you from out of the blue. The character development throughout the book has you feeling something for each of the characters be it; love, hate, frustration or just plain lust! Or a mix of all of them.
The scenes flawlessly flow from one to the other and the book flows without effort. Jo-Anna has set the foundation well for the book to continue and all though the book ends on a cliff-hanger it fits the story of Break Me.
Break Me has made it to my re-read pile. Let me tell you, that is a VERY short list!
Love the Characters, love the scenes, just plain love the book.
Oh, my where to begin...I was pulled into this story from the very beginning. One of those can't-put-it-down-call-in-sick-to-work books. It's not a very long book but it grabs you and doesn't let go until the end which we will get to in a bit. Tori may not be sharpest tool in the shed, but the stupid stuff she does is all because of her love for Sebastian (SWOON!!!) She is loyal (almost to a fault), a fighter and she is feisty as hell! She doesn't always think before she acts and that gets her into some very bad situations. She is one of those chicks that leads with her heart and not her mind, with some very heavy consequences. Now Sebastian, WOW, he is pure sex! Hot, charming, mysterious, he's the bad boy with a good heart. He becomes obsessed with Tori (believe me the feeling is mutual), protects her and falls in love with her, which brings her to the attention of the sick and demented Jose *shudders*. I can't think of Jose without my gag reflex showing up. He is the perfect blend of scary and creepy, the very best kind of villain. The end, well I won't give it away but it left me emotionally drained and now 12 hours after finishing Break Me, I can still 'feel' the characters and the emotions that they felt. For a debut book by a debut author I say BRAVO Jo-Anna, BRAVO!! I am anxiously waiting for the next book, Always Me.
I am sad to say I found this book to be a complete rip off Jamie McGuire's Travis and the Crossfire series with a small twist of 50 Shades of Grey. I didn't find the story to be anything more then that. The main Characters were just bits and pieces of other leads from other series I feel like the story needed a good edit from start to finish. I don't mind reading indie authors and often find that they have the better stories the the published authors wish that was the case here. This is just my opinion I see a lot of you liked the book and that's great but all I could see while reading was Sebastian as a Gideon/Travis mix and Tori was far to whiney to even find a BF IMO. But the resemblances of other series in this book was suffocating.
This author is new to me. The story grabs you from the beginning and holds your attention. I read this book in one day because I couldn't put it down.
The cast of characters include Tori, Sebastian, Keisha, Brett and the sadistic villain Jose. Tori and Sebastian meet at Keisha's coffee shop. Is it love at first sight? Sebastian works with Jose but not sure what are up to. Brett is Keisha's brother but how does he fit in with Sebastian and Jose? I ran a gamut of emotions while reading this book, but I would highly recommend this book. Of course there is a cliffhanger which means another book but I believe it will be so worth it as too much was left hanging at the end.
This was one of those books that i could not put down.. Read it in one sitting , just needing to find out more.. I have a mad , mad obsession with Sebastian and i feel it is only going to get worse as we find out more about him and the Shattered Series.... All i am going to say is READ IT , you will not be disapointed.. Well done Jo-Anna !!!
ok WOW......like OMG......JoAnna you did an awesome job ....I'm not gonna review yet no spoilers :) but Well when a book drags me in when I should he doing OTHER things I consider it 5 stars. I didn't want to put it down....thanks for letting me beta read....I'm looking forward to the next book
The book had a lot of potential. I’m the type of reader that likes details when I read. If I’m going to spend hours and hours reading a book, I want to be able to picture what’s going on. Many times, I felt like I was getting whiplash with the back and forth of what was unfolding.
Tori frequents a coffee shop and has noticed Sebastian many times. One day, he finally approaches her and their lust is instant. I will say, the sexy times were pretty detailed and hot (yes please Sebastian) and I was here for every single one, but I still wanted more of their relationship. They both loved each other but yet she didn’t really know much about him. For me, it felt fast. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about instant love/deep attraction/thick chemistry, but I didn’t feel it was done as well as it could’ve been done in this book.
I didn’t reduce it to less stars because the storyline has potential. Jose is a bully and is just plain gross. We don’t really know what Sebastian has been involved in or what jobs he needs to do. We find out more about Jose at the end than Sebastian. Yes, I get it, he’s a mystery, but he’s been exchanging fluids with Tori and loves her (and she loves him) yet we don’t know much about him. I did appreciate how protective he was of Tori but I needed more.
I’ll read book 2 because I wanna know what happens. I hope it’s an improvement from this book.
Tori moved to get away from everything, which works until she meets, she sees the stranger in the coffee shop, she knows he notices her, but maybe his not interested. Suddenly Tori knows she was wrong the stranger does notice her, Sebastian makes sure she knows how much he notices her. They can’t stay away from each other. Having become BFF with Keisha the waitress in the coffee shop whose brother owns a club so they decide to go. Only it seems her BBF brother is interested in Tori, when Keisha says no, he’s not happy it’s Sebastian and warns Tori away. When Sebastian shows up Tori is more than happy until she sees the man looking at her with hate – enter Jose. Sebastian warns her away from Jose, at times even letting Brett know to keep her safe. One thing that becomes clear is that Jose is not happy about Tori and Sebastian, he lets her know that she was his, he saw her first and he will make sure that he gets her. Sebastian and Tori are finally happy admitting they love each other, Sebastian saying Tori is the glue that is putting him back together. The one thing they don’t factor in is Jose’s determination to get what he wants and he wants Tori no matter who or what it costs.
Tori McLeod is just a woman, trying to find her way in this world. When she enters a coffee shop she frequents and becomes entranced by a mystery man, little did she know how her world would turn upside down. It's cliche but so true, once she met Sebastian, her world would never be the same. Love and lust, secrets and lies, confusion and betrayal seem the be the backbone to this twisting story that has you scratching your head swearing that can't be the ending!
Tori is looking for a job. She lives on her own and is taking a break from college to work and be able to pay rent. She has been at the coffee shop working on that and reading books when he walks in again. She cant quit staring at him. And until know he hasn't said anything. Today he sits down and talks to her. Sebastian is his name. He is one very fine man. I enjoyed this book. The chemistry between them is crazy. Even if they dont know eachother really at all. This book may have a trigger in it for some not to read it.
Break Me is my first JM Walker book and I'm not disappointed. A fine line between the good and bad and love and hate runs throughout this story. Lust is rampant and soon enough turns to love. But what do we really know about him? How bad could he actually be? Evil seems to always be right around the corner and gets too close. Now, she's broken. Can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens.
Holy moly! This book literally threw me all over the place. Just when I thought I had it worked out, sh!t went south!! Above and beyond is the connection between Sebastian and Tori! Phew, it quite honestly burns up the pages! But some people are determined to part them from each other......and that ending?!! On to consume book two!!
I enjoyed this because it was a quick read. The writing style was not what I am used to reading. There really wasn't a lot of character development. But oh my, fanning myself, Sebastian and Tori sure made it hot!!! I am reading #2 because naturally, I want to see what happens. There were some unanswered questions. I want to see Jose get what he has coming to him!
The cover caught me, i didnt bother with the blurb, and the fact ive read other books by this author, made this a no thought required, one click. The story did not disappoint and will pull all the feels. We meet the two main characters but you cant quite figure out the male lead. The mystery adds to the suspense and keeps you guessing. What a ride.
It ends on what I feel is a cliffhanger BUT in saying that hold on to your seats you are in for an amazing ride! From the first moment to the last its a non stop action packed read. Now excuse me while I calm my breathing before diving into the next one
It was a good book, I had a little bit on issues with the writing sometimes it was hard to follow but I enjoyed the story line and I can’t wait to read the next one!
What a ride! This book is emotional, sexy, and a little bit dirty. The story keeps you entertained and hooks you from the first page. Beware though, it’s a cliffhanger and an extremely emotional one at that. Can’t wait to read book 2.
