New Zealand historical fiction of a Welsh girl Evie marrying a NZ soldier Frank from Rotorua. Evie was destined to a life of hard gruelling labour, long hours and with little thanks working for the upper class in Wales until she met Frank. However in this sequel to War Brides, Evie has married Frank who has a farming background and also not afraid of hard work. Story covers years 1945 to 2011 set in Bay of Plenty NZ, covers heartbreak, sadness, meanness & downright nasty behaviour from her husband’s family, constant homesickness, but love, joy, happiness as well. We discover what life may have been like for both men and women after the war, acclimatising to new way of life with its twists and turns. Great read
