Rate this book
It's the 1980s. She's an ambitious small-town girl with dreams bigger than the mountains that raised her. He's a wilderness guide turned firefighter who knows every trail by heart, except the one that leads to having it all.

When Ruth Elliot gets into Harvard Law, she has to choose between the future everyone planned and the one that calls to her soul. Jim Hartman faces his own impossible hold onto the woman he loves or the mountains that shaped him.

As Ruth fights to prove herself in the male-dominated halls of law school, Jim discovers that real strength means defying everyone's expectations --- even your own. Their passion burns as hot as ever, but can their love survive when challenging the rules about who should sacrifice their dreams? Maybe the trail to having it all isn't on any map. Maybe it's one they'll have to find together.

This steamy romance redefines what it means to forge your own path. Because where there's no trail to follow, love finds a way.

Separated but faithful and of course its dated because its set in the 80's. I liked that part and I liked the story but it needs an editor. Too many inconsistencies in she was wearing this and then on the next page she was wearing something else. Just inconsistencies that normally.don't bother me but they started adding up. I liked the story too and it reminded me a lot of my life in some ways. Making a choice about college and stuff. I went the other way and didn't go but that's another story. Again I admire anyone who writes a book and this author deserves kudos for that. Again a good story but just needs an editor.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Ruth and Jim lose control and find their way back to one another.
All the references of the way men talked about women in the 1980s couldn’t have been more spot on. Every song thrown in there took me back!
Loved the ending of this book. In the words of Jim Hartman “We did us. Our way” -simple yet so true.
