A beautiful book of photography tracking the life of the band. Jill's pictures are a great mix, swinging between moody and evocative black-and-white shots to overly-saturated color. I hadn't realized somanyof those iconic Oasis photographs I'd seen before had been her work all along. She captured the brothers so well over the years -- Liam, especially, stands out in the early photos: the youth and joy and attitude he brought to the band lent a more obvious dynamism to his photographs. (Though, yes, his heart-breakingly good looks helped there too.)
Noel's commentary is sweet, but quite spare; the photos do most of the talking. Knowing the band's history, you almost can't help but put everything into context. The tension and exhaustion and distance in the final photographs taken in 2009 was a somber note to end on, but there is a small teaser of the 2025 rehearsal space that's just tantalizingly empty with the reunion's yawning potential. But all of Jill's pictures are unique and wonderful, and as a body of work, it contributes so much to the band's legacy. Noel's lucky to have Jill as both a friend and fellow artist -- their relationship, working alongside each other these past three decades, filters through in both the words and the pictures.
On an end note: though it would've tripled the size of the book, those contact sheets should've all been broken down and blown up, every single one of them. Speaking as a fan, I WANT MORE!
