Gypsy Rae Choszer

Gypsy Rae Choszer grew up in the valley below Mount Timpanogos where she watched the apricot trees in her backyard bloom every spring. When she was eighteen she packed her bags and ran away to the exotic locale of Mesa Arizona to begin the work of being an adult.

Gypsy’s love of reading began as a child when her mom would take her to their local library and let her bring home stacks of whatever she wanted. This often lead to Gypsy reading with a dictionary nearby to explain words she intuitively knew her mother wouldn't approve of.

In her spare time she likes to explore photography, make jewelry, eat chocolate, and mix magical potions.

When she’s not writing, you can find Gypsy hanging out at home with her husband and best friend, their three children, a neurotic dog, and four chickens. However, Gypsy knows her family will not be complete until she brings home a peacock and a goat.

I found this on a cheating list, there’s no cheating. There’s an immature hero who is basically on the rebound. The couple is cute, but to be honest, I would have preferred to read her birth parents story.

*I was givent this book for an honest review*

Rating: 4.5 stars

Wow, so this book was really good. But it was good in a way that is different than other books. It's subtle. I'm not saying anything bad about hte storyline but it wasn't anything that is unique in a phenomenal way. Even though I do love the story concept and the way it flowed. The story started off with Avery eperiencing the car crash that killed her parents, almost like a flashback or a dream. The next chapter is her in Portland with her new roommate Jonah, who I love. Throughout the story we get to see Avery and Gabe meet, which is hilarious, and watch as their relationship grows. While that is taking place, Avery is trying to work up the nerve to tell her birthmother, Marianna, who she is while working at her shop.

I think the thing that really made this book so good for me was that I have never felt such a wide range of extreme emotions all within one book. In the beginning I was laughing so hard that I had to stop reading to catch my breath. Oh god, the awkwardness. It was amazing and hilarious and just so much fun. Avery is such an awkward character in certain situations and I can relate to that. There were moments when I was reading the book through my fingers because I was covering my face in embarassment for her. It was so good. I don't think I have ever laughed so much while reading a book. And then on the flip side of that, there were moments when I was crying. And it takes a lot to make me cry, especially when reading a book. The author just wrote in a way that made you feel what was going on. And when we meet Gabe's dad it is just so sad. Or in the end when things aren't going so great for Avery (I don't want to give any spoilers), it was sad and I felt it.

So the characters ... Avery ... I like her. I began picturing her as Emma Stone, who I love, so therefore I loved Avery. She was open to possibilities and I definitely felt like she acted her age, if not maybe a little bit more mature. But she also, didn't take crap. When Gabe was sending mixed signals she called him on it and she wasn't a push-over. In the end she held her ground but wasn't unnecessarily stubborn about it. She was the right amount of confidence and modest. She really was just a good character. Here is a glimpse of her embarassment:

"“I really was planning to tell her who I am… but when I spoke, instead of saying ‘Hi, my name is Avery, I am the daughter you gave up for adoption twenty-one years ago’, I said something more along the lines of ‘Are you hiring?’”"

"“Oh. Right. Well-” I point at him, making a finger gun, clicking my tongue and winking, “maybe a rain check then.” Embarrassment floods through me. I am such a dork. What did I just do? I paste a smile on my face, refusing to let him see how mortified I am."

"“It’s possible I called him Captain, as in Captain Beautiful. It’s possible I gave him that name in my head before I knew his real name.” I glance at my new friends and wrinkle my nose at Jonah as he covers his mouth to hide his laughter. “We shall not discuss this again.” I fix them all with a glare."

Gabe ... Usually I like an alpha male, and while Gabe wasn't some dominant he was comfortable with who he was and that is sexy as hell. He was happy with where he was in life even though things didn't work out like they planned. He was also pretty open about his feelings toward Avery. I think I really fell in love with him when he started talking about how beautiful Avery is and mentions her inner beauty more than the outer.

"“Apparently. Poor Tess, she wants to make sweet, sweet love to you and have all your babies,” I joke.
“No. I think she’s jealous of you. She’s insecure. I told you, you’re beautiful. It’s not just how you look. It’s how you are. She might be good looking, but she doesn’t have the rest of it. She’s all surface. She’s fake. You aren’t,” Gabe says, dead serious."

Throughout the book we don't get too much about Gabe. We know he has a lot of things he is dealing with, but not many details. I think that is the one thing I didn't like about the book. With Gabe, we know he is trying to take over for his ill father at their coffee shop and that he is dealing with this huge issue of his ill father, but it is very unresolved in the end. I was really preparing myself for the sorrow that situation would bring to never see it happen. It was a little disappointing.

Jonah ... He was a side character, but he was a good one. He was funny and supportive and I really believed in the friendship forming between Avery and him. He has funny moments and he says stuff like this:

"“I will cut him!” Jonah slaps his hand on the counter. “Okay, not really. I’m not a violent person. But I will send him death glares and make him uncomfortable. And I’ll tell everyone he’s a man whore.”"

And the scenes between Avery and Gabe are just ... just .. steamy, yummy, delicious, HOT, all other sexy adjectives!!

"“Let me see you.” He commands while pushing my knees apart. A sudden shyness comes over me, but I force it aside. This is no time to be timid. “I told you that you’re beautiful,” he whispers and leans down to press a kiss just below my navel at the same time he slides a finger inside me."

Whew!! *fans face*

I think the one thing that really stood out to me about this book was how it was written. The author is a really amazing writer. Some of the parts that I would read would feel almost poetic and in the way she writes. And not in a corny way. It was beautiful. I know this excerpt is long, but it really is great. This is a whole sex scene and usually I want more than just a paragraph ... but this is all I needed. It's beautiful.

"“Come back to my place,” Gabe asks. I say nothing, but I smile as we link fingers and begin walking to the truck. “Stay with me tonight,” he whispers as he opens the truck door, waiting for me to climb in, trailing a finger over my collarbone. I don’t answer him with words. My answer is in the kiss I lay on his lips. It’s in the way I open myself to him, letting his tongue slide against my own. It’s in the way I gasp and cling to him when he tilts my head, and pulls my hair, and drags his lips across my neck. My yes is in my hurried footsteps as we climb the stairs to his apartment, and my laughter as he ushers Buster into another room. It’s in the way I remove my clothes and lay myself bare on his bed, savoring the way his eyes drink me in. My answer is in the way I pull his jeans over his hips, taking him in my hand. It’s in my moan when he fills me, rocking into my body, moving inside me. It’s in the sweat that builds and the slick wetness between us as our hips meet again and again. My answer is the wordless cry that spills from my mouth as I come."

Overall, this book was really good. It was really well written with some great characters and a great story line. I would definitely suggest to anyone to read this.

My friend wrote this book! :)
Want to know the truth - I was scared that I wasn't going to like it and I'd have to lie to her. And, guess what!? I liked it a LOT!!! It's a fun, contemporary New Adult novel, with a great gay best friend. Every girl should have a Jonah! Who cares about the love interest, when there's Jonah! ;)

I've known Gypsy for several years and when I started reading this book I was a little worried. What if I didn't like it? Then what would I do? I should have known that I didn't have to worry. All the things that make Gypsy and awesome person come through in her writing and reading Rain Check felt like I was listening to Gypsy tell a story. She managed to take a story that could have taken a turn towards sadness and filled it with humor and hope.

Avery is an awesome lead character. She's been hurt and left alone, but she's not falling victim to her circumstances. Instead she's going out and trying to create her own future by making some tough choices. Not always successfully, but always with a good attitude. Gabe comes across as a bit of an asshole for some of the book- when he's with Avery he's great, but then there's that other girl that just won't let him go, and you kind of want to reach into the book and smack him at least once since he isn't getting it all on his own. Even though Gabe is the love interest, as far as I'm concerned the leading man is Jonah, and he's fabulous. Everyone should have a Jonah as a best friend to remind you that you aren't alone and that the world can be made better with a few hours with the Winchester brothers and some snarky comments.

These characters felt real to me. They weren't perfect and they weren't so tragic that it seemed their problems were insurmountable. They existed in the middle somewhere, taking their knocks and coming out of them scarred, but okay. I felt like these characters could be my neighbors, or my friends, or me and that made reading the story really great. I can't wait to see what Gypsy does next!

Rain Check is definitely worth having a book hangover for! Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. The writing is flawless and keeps the story moving along at a steady pace. You feel for the lead character, Avery and the tragedy and turmoil that she's going through in her life. Of course all this is lightened with a little help from her friend and housemate, Jonah. I have decided that every woman should have a "Jonah" in their lives. I loved this book and highly recommend it. Can't wait for Gypsy Rae Choszer's next book, kudos.

I really thought after reading the first chapter that this was going to be a really emotional read. I was wrong. This was a brilliant read.

Avery is a really great strong character. She doesn't let her past pull her down which was great. Love Jonah. I really had some laugh out loud moments with them.

I thought this was a great read. Great laugh out loud moments and some Awww moments had me reading this in one sitting. I'll definitely be recommending this to my friends who like chick lit stories.

This was a cute quick read... Not a lot of angst or drama... I didn't really feel like I connected with the characters, although I did really like Jonah's character... Avery and Gabe were ok as a couple, something was missing... What happened to Gabe's dad?

1. The formatting of this book needed a lot of work. Although the book had chapter headings on the pages, the book itself was just one big chapter. The book wouldn't sync between my devices and on one device, the book was labelled in "pages" and in another device, it was labelled in "location". On yet another device, the book was labelled in "location" but if you wanted to skip ahead to manually sync the book, you could only choose what page you wanted to go to. All of these issues made it almost impossible to read on more than one device.
2. Do some research. If Avery had a concussion, she would not be allowed any screen time for several weeks.

Avery and Gabe

This book was recommended in a group and I'm so glad I read it. I love second chance books. Avery has been through a lot during her short life. After losing her parents in a car accident, she finds that she was adopted. Moving to a new city after finding her birth mother and finding unexpected friends and a potential new love interest. Gabe just got out of a long term relationship and is scared at the intense attraction between them.
I loved the journey getting to know Avery and Gabe!! All the screw ups and ups and downs!!

“Rain Check” by Gypsy Rae Choszer
5 out of 5 stars

Emotional, moving, heartwarming, and delightful are all words I would use to describe “Rain Check” by Gypsy Rae Choszer. If that meets your criteria, then don’t hesitate over the buy button…just click it and get to reading!

The last few years have been traumatic for Avery. Looking for a fresh start and searching for a person she never knew about before has led her to Portland. Now she’s standing face to face with a new facet of her life and she’s terrified to move forward. One humiliating new encounter with a hot guy later and Avery’s more lost than ever. Will she be able to face her past and embrace her new future or will she let her fear win and lose it all?

I found Avery to be refreshing. She is a very realistic and down to earth character that I can completely relate to. I found myself thinking that I would have reacted in the same way she does in every situation she was in. I love that Choszer made her life messy and hard and REAL. The things she has to struggle through could happen to anyone and that made the journey even sweeter. This is a character that I can definitely invest in and root for.

Gabe has demons of his own. Not every break up is cut and dried and I appreciated that Choszer gave him his own journey as well. I like that he was honest with Avery in the beginning and valued her enough to tell her he needed some clarity. Watching their love story unfold was endearing and I fell in love with them as they fell for each other. His family is a priority and that is awesome in my book. He’s a hard worker and dedicated to the things that matter to him. He is definitely a perfect mix of everything you want in a guy!

I love Jonah. As Avery’s new roommate and quick best friend, he is hysterical and brings the funny to every scene he is in. He never takes himself too seriously and helps to keep Avery grounded. He is the light to some of the more dark elements in the book and he always brought a smile to my face.

Choszer had written a story well worth the read. It’s a story of pain and loss, the struggle to move on with your life, and what it means to find happiness again. The journey that Avery and Gabe are both on (individually and together) is quite beautiful and honest. My heart ached at times and rejoiced in triumph at each small victory. The flow is great, the pacing is spot on, and I couldn’t put it down. I can definitely recommend this one and I look forward to reading more from Choszer.

This was a sweet and enchanting new adult romance which was engaging from the start.

Avery has made her way to Portland to find her real mother after she found out she was adopted after her parent’s death in a car crash a few years before. However when she finds herself standing in front of the woman she now knows to be her birth mother, she finds she cannot confront her and ends up applying for a job working for her in her mystical shop, The Crystal Moon.

Whether this is a good move, only time will tell but it means a longer stay in Portland which she is happy about as she gets to stay with her new found best friend, Jonah.

Jonah is a freelance artist and an instant lovable character. He is currently off relationships due to his last man letting him down. He needs his own book *hint hint* Ms Choszer! I loved how supportive he was of Avery and how he kept her spirits high after each disappointment she has. After all who could not love a man who loves chocolate, ice-cream, cookies and Supernatural!

It is whilst out on a night out at the local bar with Jonah and his friends that Avery first makes eye contact with the gorgeous Gabe. But after a disastrous episode in the men’s toilet she escapes and hopes she never has to see him again after she had embarrassed herself in front of him! However they do meet again in the local coffee shop that Gabe’s family happen to own and he runs. It was from then on that the romance blossoms with a hiccup in between, but for the most part a sweet romance occurs.

I had my misgivings for Gabe at first and thought he was a bit of a coward (which Avery even calls him at one stage) but it’s after getting to know what he is going through and has gone through that I realised he would have misgivings of a new relationship. After all if there was a threat of the people he loved leaving him then for sure he would be trying to protect himself. So I guess in the end I did get to like Gabe and thought the epilogue was especially sweet.

Rain Check is a really sweet and tender book to read and totally satisfied my yearning on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I liked that it wasn’t overly angst ridden and kept things at an enjoyable pace. It did, in parts, even bring a tear to my eye.

It’s a good solid story about family values, letting go of the past, building new foundations for the future and never letting go of love. Gorgeous. Four stars.

Who doesn’t love watching a Chick Flick? Curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine and some popcorn in hopes of being buried into a story that will help you forget all about the things happening in your life. Well…that’s what Gypsy Rae’s, Rain Check, offers. This novel is similar to watching a great chick flick that will have you giggling, your eyes glossing with saddening tears, and your heart yearning for love along with a glimpse of hot sex.

Gypsy Rae doesn't waste any time telling Avery’s story, and at times she tells oppose to showing. While some readers may view this as a flaw, truth is, it does not take away from this novel.

Immediately you will fall in love with Jonah’s artsy, full of life personality; and of course you will be praying for a happy ending for Avery, and the author doesn't disappoint. As Avery wars with confronting a hidden secret, she finds herself in love with someone who may not be in love with her. Plagued by her past, uncertain of exposing a secret, and in a relationship in which she is merely a rebound you cannot help but to read every page in order to divulge what will happen next!

Like all chick flicks there is a message entangled in the plot, and Rain Check offers an important message that sums up this entire story. There was a line in the book that really caught my attention.... It read: “You don’t need luck, remember? It’s all just part of the journey….” And that is what this book is all about…A JOURNEY!

I give Rain Check 4 out of 5 stars!

Happy reading!

This is the first book I have read by Gypsy and I look forward to reading more of her work. I found Rain Check to be well written and I loved how strong Avery's character was, even after everything she had been through, she sets out to create a better life for herself. Added by her new roommate, Jonah, who I loved. Avery begins to set down new roots in Portland, hoping to connect with her birth mother. Before you know it she is working for her.

Enter Gabe, the gorgeous guy that Avery notices one night at the bar with Jonah and his friends. When she unfortunately goes into the wrong bathroom and tosses her cookies. Only to be brought face to face with him the next day. They have this undeniable chemistry between them. But Gabe also has demons of his own. There were times that I wanted to reach through my kindle and shake the shit out of him.

Over all, I felt Rain Check was very well written. I highly recommend it to all readers. Gypsy's attention to detail is awesome. Not only does she write about characters that you fall in love with, but they are realistic and relatable . Rain Check, is about, losing the ones you love, and setting out on a course to make a new life and embracing the family that you never knew you had. Of friendship (Jonah needs his own book...btw) and heartache and above all the connection we have with that one person who makes your heart complete. Will Gabe and Avery be able to put their pasts behind them and find find a future together? Pick up your copy today and find out.

*****Gypsy Rae Choszer's Rain Check was excellent.. I would recommend this must be book to everyone. It will have you laughing, crying and leave you wanting more. Its a book you wont be able to put down.

The detail and the way Ms Choszer writes has you feeling like your part of the story. Rain Check is sexy, hot and your emotions change through out the book it will have you laughing, feeling the love and chemistry to the main character Avery and Gabe and even have you shed a tear or two..

Avery growing up has a horrific event happened to her and her family that brought her to find her birth mother while on the journey of trying to get the courage to approach her birth mother. She meets a few wonderful people on the way. Johan who everyone would want as a best friend. Johan and Avery together will have you on the floor. The humor between the two and the way they interact you cant help but love them. Than you have Avery and Gab the attraction alone will have you burnng. You can feel the sexual tension between them and when they are together you will be melting from the heat of the fire..

I cannot say enough good things about this book!!! Avery is totally relatable and dealing with some heavy stuff. Gabe is hunka-hunka fabulous but not afraid to do the right thing by telling her he has too much of his own stuff going on to be with her. Jonah is the best friend everyone wants to have. It has all the ingredients to be an angsty tear jerker but it isn't!!! Ms. Choszer takes a story that could be full of drama but fills it full of humor, which really is the best medicine, and some really heartfelt moments!!! I could not put this down and am already looking forward to a re-read. I just love love love this book!!!

Loved this book. When I started reading I thought this was going to be a tear jerker for sure but I was so wrong. I laughed through most of the book and didn't want to put it down until it was done. The characters in this book were so real and natural it felt like they were people that I could have known in real life. If I am going to have a roommate I really hope he will be a lot like Jonah.. I loved him to death. This is a must read book and I will recommend to all my book loving friends.

This book grabbed my attention right from the start. As I was reading this book, it felt like I was watching a Lifetime Movie. It's reality feel of coping with tragic and loss and finding love, the reality of the emotions, all surreal!
