But when Jean Talon began his journey westward, he stumbled upon a deadly conspiracy involving a young woman’s search to find her missing brother, and a ruthless band of renegades. Led by the brazen Baron Torville, this makeshift army of opportunists is plotting a violent takeover of the Louisiana Territory. Jean swears to find a way to stop this daring plan. L’Amour Eastern set Western.

Good rollicking read.
As usual, L’AMour’s protagonists have near superhuman abilities and skills, integral characters appear out of nowhere, and there are near plot holes; but still the book is a fine and thoroughly enjoyable read chock full of historical facts and tidbits.
This edition is part of the Lost Treasure series of LAmour’s works and there is a wonderful afterward by his son Beau which details some of the book’s issues and his father’s battles against editing.

Louis always writes something entertaining. This one is full of fisticuffs action and is short enough to finish very quickly. This book has shadows of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and James Fenimore Cooper's The Deerslayer tucked into its pages.
