In the secluded woodlands of Northern Michigan, the Harwood family finds their peaceful life shattered when they encounter a creature of legend—the Dogman. Recently settled into their new home, the Harwoods are unprepared for the terror that stalks them under the cover of night.
Annette Harwood, a determined mother and wildlife biologist, becomes obsessed with proving the creature’s existence as her husband, Michael, grapples with protecting their two children from a threat he cannot understand. The tension builds with each passing night, marked by eerie howls, unsettling discoveries of claw marks, and fleeting glimpses of a towering, canine-like figure with glowing eyes.
Forced to confront their deepest fears, the Harwoods must unravel the mystery surrounding the Dogman to save themselves and reclaim their home from the jaws of the myth made flesh.
I recently read the first book in the Cryptid Chronicles series and I thought it was fine: well written, entertaining, simply good. But boy, does this book crank things up a notch or two.
For a relatively short novel, the story arc is wide, yet not so much that it becomes too much, too distracting. Here too, we have wonderfully fleshed out characters, excellent dialogue but what I'll remember most, is the absolute constant sense of dread and terror when reading this book. Honestly, I was even anxious to start the final chapter.
