Performed in duet by Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke!
In my defense, I had no idea the tattooed, glasses-wearing, soulful hottie I spent one perfect day—and one unforgettable night—with was a hockey star on my father’s team.
And Miles didn’t know I was the coach’s daughter.
That’s the point of a “no-work-talk” date.
But now? He's as forbidden to me as I am to him.
When I land a new gig as the team photographer, we vow to keep it professional. We mostly succeed…except for that time after a game when he couldn’t keep his talented hands off me. And, okay, maybe that other time before a road trip. But I swear, it won’t happen again.
Too much is at stake—I can’t risk my heart or my father’s team.
But when I’m asked to dog-sit Miles’s pack of rescue pups for a few weeks, I discover there’s more to him than I ever imagined—a man who’s genuine, thoughtful, and irresistibly real.
He looks at me like he can’t believe his luck. Touches me like he never wants to let go. And listens to my hopes and fears.
My heart’s getting dangerously attached. But if I follow it… am I putting everyone’s dreams on the line?

Okay, let’s get into it. Miles and Leighton? ADORABLE. 🥹 He’s a golden retriever in human form, and she’s a badass boss babe with an artistic soul. Their chemistry? 🔥🔥 The whole “forbidden romance” + forced proximity combo had my attention at first.
And then… 60% in, the vibes just dipped. 😩 It started strong, had cute moments, but MAN, it dragged. 🫠
What I loved: ✨ Hearing loss rep – YES!! More of this in romance, please! 📢💙 ✨ Miles being a literal dream boyfriend – thoughtful, supportive, and listens 🥹 ✨ The found family vibes with the hockey team & rescue pups – ADORABLE 🐶💕
What didn’t work for me: 🚨 So. Much. Repetition. Like we GET IT, Miles and Leighton can’t be together… until they can. 🤡 🚨 Pacing – started fun, then felt like it was running in circles. 🚨 Drama that could’ve been solved in 5 minutes if they just talked to Daddy Coach. 🙄
Final thoughts? If you LOVE forbidden romance + golden retriever MMCs + slow-burn with a touch of angst, this might hit for you. For me? Cute, but forgettable. I’ll probably move on and forget half of it by next week. 🤷♀️
Would I still read more from this series? Yeah, but with a little less patience.
I have been truly enjoying this series and each one has been comforting, funny, sexy, and sweet. Up until this one though, book 1 was my favorite. And there are actually a few similarities. A kisment meeting, a date that they never want to end, a hot liaison that shakes their foundation, and then the crushing realization that they can never be. In book 1 it was because she was his captain's sister. Here Leighton is the coach's eldest daughter.
Yet, when Leighton lands a job taking photographs for the team, she is forced to see Miles more and more. They get along so well that friendship, true and beautiful friendship starts to bloom. Honestly, that was some of the BEST parts of this book. Watching their relationship build. There is of course, and underlying tension and chemistry, but they also just get along so well. They are there for each other and support one another. It felt very genuine and real.
I feel like Lauren Blakely balanced their attraction and friendship so well. She showed that connection happen so fast right from the beginning, so that the slow burn that comes after doesn't feel like too much of a drag. Because it does take a WHILE. Haha!
They really got to know one another and care for one another without ever dating. So when things finally move back to the romantic side, I believed it was gonna work out. I was rooting for them and so were most of the characters in this book.
Finally, I have to touch on the representation. Leighton was diagnosed at sixteen with mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss. She wears hearing aids and is self-conscious about them at times. She knows ASL and signs with her father and sister at times. I can't speak directly to the representation but I can speak to how Miles makes her feel about it. He is the perfect amount of curious, caring, and adaptable. Doing everything is his power to accommodate and make her life easier whenever they are together. This should be the case for any partner, but what's awesome is that for most of this story, they aren't even together. He just does it. Her own mother didn't do that for her.
It was truly touching and the way Miles respects and adores her... well that's why this is a 6 star read for me. After the 3rd act Grand Gesture (not because of a breakup), I was bawling and thinking... this is truly what: If he wanted to, he would, truly means.
This book was perfection! No notes.
I listened to the audio book which was a duet narration by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor.
The beginning pulled me in. It was cute, fun, and the chemistry between Miles and Leighton was so good. I was hooked at first.
But then... it started dragging. It got repetitive, and I found myself getting bored halfway through. And the ending is rushed, which didn’t help much.
THIS BOOK ACTUALLY BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES!!!! Like are you kidding me?? Miles is perfect & so thoughtful & loving *happy sigh*. Leighton made my heart so happy with all that she overcame, mostly on her own with some support from the hockey stud she couldn’t resist hehe. These two were both such amazing characters & I don’t want to let them go 😭😭😭
God this was so cute and swoony & perfect & I could just scream!!!!! Their meet cute, the friendships, BIRDIE the grandma, the acts of service oh my GODDDDDDD. You just gotta listen to it okay. It was such a fantastic audio & wonderful storyline, I swear I’m still kicking my feet and feeling all the butterflies.

Lauren Blakely has blown me away with every book in this series. I loved loved LOVED Miles and Leighton. I seriously laugh and cry so much while reading these. They always set such a hight standard of what love should look like. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE how the dog rescue is touched on in each book! It was such a big part of book 1, and for it to keep making its appearance is so cute.
Don't even get me started on Leighton and her camera. Miles was loving it, and I was EATING IT UP. What a fun hobby, and so many good ideas... lol
I think, other than Miles and Leighton, Birdie was hands down the best character. What an absolute gem. Especially at the end when she starts meddling in someone else's love life lol. That made my heart so happy.
Also, thank you Lauren and KP Simmon for the eARC and ALC. I listened while reading and it was absolute perfection to be immersed into the book so fully.
The audio duet was also phenomenal. Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke were great together! Their voices were easy to listen to, and fit the characters perfectly.
Also, the covers for this entire series have been SO cute and fun. I have enjoyed all the different editions and cover aspects. Reading the books and coming to the parts where the cover fits so perfectly just makes me so happy.

I mean.. this was one of the cutest hockey romances I’ve ever read.
Miles & Leighton are perfection and their full first day together will live in my head rent free for LIFE.. also Miles saying “send me a picture when you’re done” and when Miles learned ASL
LAUREN YOU DID IT WITH THIS ONE!

The Girlfriend Zone by Lauren Blakely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
This is my first Lauren Blakely book and I can safely say I am OBSESSED. The Girlfriend Zone has (as Stefon says) EVERYTHING. Spoilers in the review because I can't even.
Can't recommend this book enough and now I'm off to devour the rest of the Love and Hockey series.
Tell me why I keep loving each book in this series more than the previous ones and this was no exception!! Leighton and Miles have insane chemistry from the start, but a series of unfortunate events leads them to discover that Miles is a player on her dad's team after they have the most amazing first date. Their banter is easy going and seamless and I couldn't get enough of them! Miles is so swoon worthy and every single thing he did showed how much he truly cared for Leighton.
Audiobook: The narration for this book is amazing!! It is duet narration with Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke and they perfectly portray Leighton and Miles! I knew I'd devour this book, but the audiobook made it impossible for me to put down until I was done!
What to expect: -Hockey player x photographer -Coach's daughter -Forbidden -Age Gap -Forced proximity -Workplace
Thank you Lauren Blakely and KP Simmon for the ARC & ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review!!
I stand by that this series is so criminally underrated. I have listened to all of the books in the series so far on audio and loved every one. I didn’t think this one could top the first in the series but boy was I wrong. This book deserves all of the stars. Hands down a top friends to lovers book I’ve read so far, with some forbidden and age gap in there too.
Miles is just absolute perfection and the way he pays such close attention to Leighton is so heart warming. He got me towards the end of the book & I almost cried. Leighton has a type of hearing loss but she has never let that get in her way. She is tenacious and a hard worker.
The relationship between Miles and Leighton was absolutely everything. The friendship they formed, ugh swoon. The spice in this was absolutely top tier and I was blushing and giggling in the first couple of chapters. The end of this book had me completely in my feels and caught me off guard in the absolute best way.
If you’re looking for a feel good hockey romance series to start, I HIGHLY suggest this one. And if you’re an audio girly, do yourself a favor and listen to them all.
Miles and Leighton have an undeniable connection from the start, and Miles is instantly drawn to her. But when they discover that Leighton is his coach’s daughter, they agree to keep their distance. A year later, fate brings them back together when Leighton becomes the team’s photographer. They try to keep things professional, but resisting each other proves to be a challenge. Their chemistry is irresistible, and I love how Miles encourages Leighton to embrace who she is and express what she truly wants.
Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke deliver an outstanding narration, perfectly capturing the sweet, playful dynamic between Miles and Leighton. If you're looking for a heartwarming romance with an adorable couple and plenty of spice, this is a must listen!
“The coach’s daughter? Off-limits. But that didn’t stop him… and it sure didn’t stop my heart.” 😮💨

📚 She thought she had one unforgettable night with a soulful, tattooed stranger. Turns out? He’s Miles, a hockey star on her dad’s team. And she’s just been hired as the team photographer. Off-limits never felt so tempting—especially once she ends up living with him… and his rescue pups.
👨👧 Leighton is vibrant, artistic, and beautifully grounded. She’s carving out her own path while navigating life with hearing loss, and it’s portrayed with honesty and care. Miles is the ultimate cinnamon roll—hot, loyal, gentle. Coming off a career-threatening injury, he’s careful with his heart… until hers is right in front of him.
💞 From steamy hallway kisses to stolen nights, their chemistry sizzles. But it’s the quiet moments—him listening, her opening up, their bond deepening—that hit hardest. It's slow-burn meets emotional intimacy, and the payoff? Worth the angst.
👧 We get glimpses of fan-favorite side characters and hints about upcoming couples, which makes this a gem for series readers.
✍️ Lauren Blakely brings her signature charm—sharp banter, heartwarming moments, and a romance that feels real. But fair warning: the "big reveal" will make you want to throw your Kindle. Still, the extended epilogue makes it mostly better.
🌟 The Girlfriend Zone blends tropey fun with deeper emotional beats. It’s forbidden love wrapped in puppy cuddles, second chances, and the kind of connection that feels like coming home. Not my favorite pacing-wise near the end, but still—another win for the Love & Hockey series.
📲 QOTD: Do you love reading series in order, or are you a proud chaos reader who jumps around? Do you think dating a coworker is a “never” or a “maybe”?

ALC REVIEW
Duet Narration: Samantha Brentmoor & Jason Clark
Leighton and Miles met by chance, and he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Fate stepped in, in the form of Grandma, and she set them up. That one night turned into the hottest night of their lives. The next day, they found out she’s the coach’s daughter. We all know what that means… forbidden. The bigger problem now is that they have an intense chemistry that keeps drawing them back together. Can Miles stay away from his soulmate?
Girlfriend Zone packs a punch with heartwarming moments, giddy humor, and adorable dogs. Miles and Leighton are the perfect fit for each other. Samantha Brentmoor brings Leighton to life with her laid back, sassy vibes. Jason Clark perfectly captures Miles’s sexy, broody voice.
I enjoyed this feel-good audiobook. It just made me smile the whole time.
If I could give more than 5 stars this book deserves it! I absolutely loved this story ❤️ This book had me kicking my feet happy so many times.
This audiobook was pure perfection and Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke really did an amazing job bringing this story to life. I swear audiobooks really make me cry more whether they are happy or sad tears. This was just so good.
Miles and Leighton.. I really fell in love with both of there characters from the start. The way they communicated, was on point. Miles is seriously so thoughtful and caring. You can really see Leighton wanting to be independent and Miles was there for her every step of the way.
I love the fact that Miles mom is a foster mom to 4 chihuahuas, and it added for even more fun in this book. Also Birdie the grandma, I give her all the credit for getting these two together.
Lauren Blakely really out did herself with this one!
Tropes -Coaches daughter -hockey x photographer -age gap -forbidden -forced proximity -workplace
📕 Book Review📕 This book was incredible. Exquisite and moving and it made me cry, a rarity. Right from the start I loved both characters (and that was BEFORE I listened a little and heard Jason Clarke narrate 🥵). The complexity of these characters, the pining, the respect and understanding, the growth, the grief, the patience. Couldn’t get enough. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of books that make you feel and characters that have challenges with purpose- and this one had all the things I needed and some I didn’t even realize I did. Goodness gracious am I grateful for authors like Lauren Blakely who take their job seriously, who research, who care, who ask for feedback to get things “right.” Exquisite.
👋 Therapist Take: if you’ve read this far and continue to read my reviews, I’m going to assume you trust my judgment. Read this book. Finding meaning, fighting for what you need, accepting all the things about us we try to hide, exploring and working through attachment trauma, mourning what you can’t have, honoring our pain and growing with it, choosing ourselves and proving our dedication: all in this book. With spice that will put a pep in your step. And humor. It’s everything. Just read it. Or listen to it. And report back 💋
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♾️ 🥵🥵🥵 Thank you to Lauren Blakely and team for the eARC and ALC
I absolutely ADORED this book!! This story had me SO giddy! I laughed throughout and even teared up towards the end 🥹 It was such a heartwarming read that had the perfect amount of spice! Leighton and Miles chemistry was unlike anything else! I knew from their first encounter in Birdie’s shop that they were going to blow me away… and after reading about their photography experience- they absolutely did! I loved the forbidden aspect with Leighton’s dad being Miles’ boss and loved watching them try to fight their attraction towards one another!
The audio was phenomenal- Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke are amazing! Their voices fit these characters so well and these two narrators work extremely well together. Like- so good I would listen to them read grocery lists or recipes on repeat! 🤭
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK, BUT ESPECIALLY THE CHARACTERS!! The Girlfriend Zone is the 4th book in the Love and Hockey series, but it's the first one I've read and I can attest, it reads well as a standalone. Do I want to know about a few couples that were named? Yes, and I WILL go back and read them, but Leighton and Miles will grab you from the beginning and make you forget anyone else.
I'm not always a fan of insta-lust that turns into a couple quickly, but Blakely did it in a whole new way where it became a slow burn in the most delicious way. Leighton and Miles meet because of a meddling grandmother who happens to own a coffee shop. And when Miles' eyes land on Leighton, he knows she is THE ONE. Only thing is, they discover after their "second date" that they can never be. Because Miles Falcon is a hockey player and plays for Leighton McBride's father!!
Give me a sports romance and man that is GONE for the FMC and I'm literally a goner. And have it performed in duet narration from Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor?! Hello! It couldn't have been better. These two brought the story to life and you could feel the attraction and sweetness from both Leighton and Miles. They were real and vulnerable and truly cared about one another and each other's success and I could feel that in the performances from Clarke and Brentmoor. You'll want to hug the narrators because they make you FEEL all the words!
As for Miles and Leighton....I fell in love. I loved the way they met and how much these two had in common. I loved that Miles is like the sexy, yet nerdy hockey player and goes the step above for his woman, even when she's not around. I love that he was always keeping pieces of Leighton, even when they were just friends. He is the epitome of "if he wanted to, he would". Miles IS Book Boyfriend material to the T! Wait until the end. SWOOOONNN! And Leighton. This woman was so very relatable to me. From her passion of photography and making people feel good about themselves to her hearing issue, I could understand this woman in ways that I can't always when it comes to a mid 20's FMC. Sassy, strong, and love for her people, but has a hard time saying no. These two were just perfect and made for each other and I couldn't have loved them more.

...Then you will love The Girlfriend Zone. I can't wait to go back and read the previous books now. But Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor may have ruined me with their performance of Blakely's writing. Miles and Leighton are already my favorite. ;)
Sometimes you just know when you meet the love of your life.
The Girlfriend Zone is the fourth book in the Love and Hockey series and may just be my favorite. It features Leighton and Miles who share an unforgettable first date that ends there because it turns out he’s a hockey player and she’s his coach’s daughter.
Instantly, Leighton and Miles go from wanting to explore their connection to knowing absolutely nothing else can happen. She is off limits and it sucks. Their chemistry is off the charts. They know what they want but they can’t have it.
These two work so hard at staying away. And with the exception of a few stolen moments, they actually accomplish it. They genuinely care about each other and do not want to risk their jobs. I love that these two are so mature and patient. They act like the adults they are and are realistic with expectations. They understand each other and I love that they don’t hide how they feel even if they don’t think they can be together.
This book is so much fun and there were so many times I was cracking up. And though there are some smoking hot scenes, it’s really the friendship they form and the sweet swoony moments they share that made this book unputdownable. I was so happy when they were together and I was invested in their romance.
Miles and Leighton were so good for so long but eventually they couldn’t stay away because they realize exactly what they mean to each other. I knew something was going to happen and I didn’t see how they two were going to be caught but I really liked how everything played out. There isn’t any over the top drama and the drama we do see is realistic and understandable.
I really enjoyed this love story and getting more of the other characters from previous books, too. I can’t wait for more from this group and am so excited to get Tyler and Sabrina’s romance!
• Hot meet cute • Matchmaking Grandmas • Spicy photography • ASL rep • Forbidden romances • Hockey Romance • Coach's daughter
This has to be one of Lauren's sweetest books! The relationship between Miles and Leighton was sugary sweet with some hot, spicy moments. It was such an incredible addition to this series! With the cutest meet cute of all, forbidden angst, and lots of stolen glances. These two stole my heart from the very beginning of this book! And I was such a huge fan of Miles' matchmaking grandma!
Miles checked so many boxes when it came to my favorite things I like in an MMC. He was nerdy, flirty, and loved learning every fact about Leighton he could! He was unbelievably accepting and had no problem with following her cues on how they proceeded with their relationship! He was the perfect nerdy golden retriever!
Leighton was such a badass photographer who spent her days empowering women in boudoir shoots and photographing her father's team! I freaken loved her character! Lauren did such an incredible job with how she handled her hearing impairment and how she navigated life after hearing loss! She was such a strong FMC! And watching her grow even more confident with Miles was a favorite of mine!
I will never get over the way Lauren resolved this 3rd act hiccup! (I can't call it a breakup) it was the absolute SWEETEST!!!
I just freaken love this series!! If you're looking for a feel good romance book with loves to angsty forbidden elements with an incredible ASL rep! This book is perfect for you!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR MILES BROTHERS BOOK!
🎧Audiobook review🎧 Duet Narration Narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor
These two are becoming my favorite set of narrators to listen to together. In Duet. Or Dual! It doesn't matter! Jason did such an incredible job with Miles's character. It felt so authentic and perfectly Miles! While Samantha brought out the sweetest sides of Leighton beautifully! They were a heck of a team for this audiobook, and I enjoyed it so much!!!
•Tropes/microtropes: hockey romance, forbidden, Coach's daughter, ASL rep, spicy meet cute, Camera fun, fun with toys, Mirror play, he licks his fingers clean, nerdy MMC, tattooed FMC, he wears glasses, She wears his jersey, Facetime spicy time,

I recieved the ALC for this one from Lauren’s team! Ivan so grateful I was able to listen to it.
There is so much I want to say. I loved this book so much. Miles and leighton were the perfect forbidden love story. From their first date to their last, it was hot and heady mixed with sweet and soft. Between the growing lust and photo shoots to the breakfasts, gifts and mason jars of flowers, Miles and Leighton tried to fight the friction of their relationship but ended up succumbing to their tension and saying fuck it. I ended up stopping in my tracks and sobbing at the end. Miles is perfection for what he did with her dad for her and it was the most precious moment.
He’s the star hockey player and she is the coaches daughter, which means OFF LIMITS. If you love a slow burn, forbidden love hockey romance, this one is for you! There is also disability reps, grief, narcissistic parents in case those are your triggers. 🩷
This book was so effin GOOOOD. Omg I am crying reading the end right now. THIS MAN. WHAT A MAN. UGHHHHHHH LEIGHTON YOU LUCKY LUCKY WOMAN. The devotion, the determination, the yearning, the pining, the love this man feels and SHOWS Leighton is EVERYTHING. WOW this book is going into my top ten reads. What a romance. Pure effin perfection. No notes whatsoever. I am truly obsessed with Miles Falcon. There were also so many funny bits with the rest of the peeps from the sea dogs hockey team. I am so attached to them. I fucking love hockey romances and the beautiful caring found families that come out of them. I listened to the audio book and it was fantastic. Samantha Brentmoor is one of my favorite female narrators and she killed it. Jason Clark grew on me. His voice seemed too old at the beginning but it fit at the end. I am so sad the book is done. I want more. I need more. They are everything 🥹🥲🥲🥲😭😭
Lauren Blakely seriously outdid herself with this book. First of all, the hulky, handsome, hockey star MMC, Miles, loves to nerd out on geocaching. Nerds are 🔥
Second of all, our FMC, has some hearing loss and wears a hearing aid, and the way Blakely weaves that into the story with such respect and grace is amazing. Miles also treats this part of Leigjton with such care it’s beautiful to see!
I could go on and on about this book, but just trust me that it’s FABULOUS!!! It is book 4 in the Love and Hockey series, but they’re interconnected standalones, so you can read it without having read the first 3. (There is character crossover though so it’s most fun to read them in order!)
I’m a huge fan of Lauren Blakely and the Love and Hockey series, and I was beyond excited to read The Girlfriend Zone.
Miles Falcon, a hockey player for the Sea Dogs, is helping his grandma, Birdie, at her coffee shop when he meets Leighton and he is instantly smitten, even calling her his future wife.
Leighton McBride is a talented photographer and the coach’s daughter. Leighton finds herself in a tough spot when her model canceled last minute. She needed help finishing her shoot and Birdie immediately steps in volunteering her grandson to help.
There was an instant connection between Leighton and Miles when they first met, and after the shoot is over they decide to spend some more time together.
After a second date, they discovered they have more in common than just chemistry. They chose to prioritize their careers and a personal conflict and agree to stop seeing each other, but fate intervenes and brings them back together. The pair can’t deny their connection and the fact that they’re meant to be together.
Throughout this book, there were numerous funny, adorable, and swoon-worthy moments, as well as some spicy ones.
Leighton and Miles are hands down my favorite couple in the series so far! I loved watching them grow together as a couple, but also as individuals throughout the story.

Such a good read! The MMC gives off huge golden retriever vibes and he just knew she was the one right away. I also love how his grandma helped him out and got them started.
I was given this as an eARC. I did not read the books before this as it’s a standalone and didn’t feel like I missed out on any before stories. I do plan to go back and read them!
Okay these two are everything!! I love the coaches daughter trope and these two were just chefs kiss! The spice was spicing, and the tension was EVERYTHING!
In my defense, I had no idea the tattooed, glasses-wearing, soulful hottie I spent one perfect day—and one unforgettable night—with was a hockey star on my father’s team.
