The hardest part is behind me, it seems. I’m no longer a kindergartner. I’ve got money, allies, and, most importantly, a reputation.
Yet the further you rise, the more challenges the Universe throws your way, and the more powerful your foes become as they emerge over the horizon. That just makes life more interesting, however. I’ve got a plan. And I’m going to follow it to the letter…
I received a review copy of this book. The story continues, the main character grows his skills and power, recruits a student, and as usual, has to fend off assassination attempts, keep his businesses afloat, and figure out who's sabatoging his efforts. All in a days work for our hero though. Honestly, I thought this book was pretty entertaining, though the story does tend to stall here and there, for the most part, I like where it seems to be going, and the way it's panning out is well worth the read. If you liked previous books in the series, this book won't disappoint.
Theodore's power is on the rise, but he faces formidable obstacles. Captivated by a beautiful yet impoverished countess, he feels compelled to care for and shield her. Battles and attacks by rival aristocrats and mysterious supernatural forces ensue. Despite this, Theodore remains underestimated. The narrative offers a compelling blend of action, humor, intrigue, and romance, leaving the reader eager for the next installment.
Book 2 of this series was fairly good the rest along with this book #4 are exceedingly nonsensical and inconsistent. Tone, flow as well as characters shifting. Repetitive bordering on copy pasted regurgitated lines, bad word usage and baffling and jumbled paragraphs that make no sense or are contradictory. All this with the audio narration also being poorly executed. I would rate this volume the worst of the lot.
I enjoyed this for the most parts, but it seems the author likes to wax poetic on the appearance of buildings or the "soul" of art or whatever.
I know the protag is an architect, and he would build and design structures, devices, etc... But what made me stick with the series was how the took raw materials, mostly trash, and made something with them. I don't really care for the flowerily prose of art pieces.
The book consists of sidequests and mainly serves introduce new antagonists and compatriots while the old foes remained suspiciously passive. Despite this the story hardly got boring and entertaining - i say hardly as i didn't like the repetitions where a former scene was shown from another perspective for a bit too long.
Book 4 picks up where book 3 stopped and it’s a jolly great rollicking time. We meet rebels, blow up stuff, create marvels and introduce some new characters and of course new enemies!
Lots more very powerful enemies, a new female in the picture, and warriors of old provide many opportunities for new uses of Architectural magic. It’s so creative and fun!
Even though it seems everyone is against him, young Theodore Babylon continues to smash thrive anyone who tries to get into his way. I can't wait to see what happens next 😅
Who is doing what? Great story! I have no idea who is behind the Shadows. Do the rebels know? Ok aristocrats, leave Theodore alone. Oh, no, wait. Don’t do that. He kills you in such interesting ways. Or humiliates you so you can’t even speak. Great read.
This is my new favorite series! We follow Theodore and his building of his new company and his old relic sales. Some very powerful people want to kill Theodore and his friends.
