Students go missing at this mythical and magical HBCU campus. No one knows why but as our four girls continue their education and learn more about themselves, the mystery begins to affect their friendship with each other. Can they solve the case and stop this growing feeling that something is about to change, all while remaining friends? Let's find out.
3.5⭐️ I will admit that because I follow Granger on social media, I assumed that this would be the final book, and that it would center on Maggie and Namir. I therefore had high expectations that my questions would be answered.
Although it was a good read, there were still a lot of moving factors, chaos, and new problems. I liked that we now know the truth about Asha and that she has discovered herself. It's clear that Maggie experienced an awakening, but I'd like to see more. Celeste disappointed me by being simply regular. It was a bit random regarding her. One minute she was there, then she wasn't, and then she was back again. I still have some issues about the flow of the story, but it appears that with this author, you simply have to read this book for enjoyment and not worry about what it may be, and don't make assumptions because you'll be wrong. I loved Bellamy and can't wait to read his book. I lowkey want a novella on winter break to see what the gang is doing.
I'll keep reading and supporting Granger. With the possibility of further novels in the series, I am looking for a more organized storyline and greater character development within the gang. There is a lot of potential in this series, and maybe she can make it all work.
OMG!!!!! When I was chosen to receive this ARC from Desireé Granger, I about CRIED!! If you know me and have been following me, you know how much I LOVE the Drew Collins series and I’m truly an alumna of the BEST HBCU ever! When I first read “The Secret World of Maggie Grey,” I fell in love with Granger’s storytelling and her words. Then came “The First Family,” and I was even more in awe. Now that I’ve read “When a Wolf Loves the Moon,” I must say it is my FAVE of the series.
If you needed to be reminded - this series continuously gives vampire, werewolf, fairy and all magical vibes - for black folks! Maggie finally realizes she’s THAT girl in this one, and Namir…chile. I’m OBSESSED with them! The girls—Souxie, Asha, and Isis—are back, and we’re following their stories right alongside Maggie’s. We discover so many new things about each of them and why they are the way they are. Our boy Quan the cat is back, and I screamed at Kitty Mittens!! Bellamy was a wild card for me in book 2, but now he’s a fave. I don’t want to give away anything in the book because y’all need to read it.
This story was EVERYTHING. This book made me laugh, made me gasp, made me happy and made me proud. The ending was one of the BEST endings I’ve ever read in a book. DES – you did it, girl!!! I’m completely in awe of you and your craft, and I cannot wait for more. Thank you for allowing me to get an early read of this 5-star chick (what I call my 5-star reads).
Please preorder this on Kindle RIGHT NOW!! If you haven’t read the first two books, there will be a sale on those for FREE 99 or just $0.99 coming up soon!
We are back on the grounds of Drew Collins University and we pick up book three with Maggie, Asha, Souxie, and Isis hiding out at Jean's place since another death has occurred. As the seasons change and the girls' classes become hectic, their friendships are tested as they navigate trying to understand why random deaths keep occurring on the grounds while trying to shake the feeling that things are about to change drastically at Drew Collins University and for the girls themselves.
Some random thoughts. Why did Souxie read Asha like that? "Stick to the rivers and lakes you're used to and figure out how to swim in those before you come play with me." HELP. Maze trying to defend her family annoyed the hell out of me. Girl, do you remember what they did to you? Isis didn't deserve that at all. Quan coming to the rescue for Isis ... YES! Cousin Lovely is a nasty bih! He broke her what during nasty time? OH, HELL TO THEE F*CK NO. Asha's divine intervention was so perfect! Bruh, not you pissed on that man. Maggie FINALLY harnesses her power. Chile, not you and Namir fucking your own families over. I AM HERE FOR IT!
My honest reaction to the book. If you read Granger's opening then you know she talks about taking her time when it comes to building a world and exploring new characters and ideas as well. To her, details may not matter in the end and I think that is where When a Wolf Loves the Moon fell short for me. To me, the details mattered because I started to question things when certain characters would pop up after remembering that they were dead in book 2. Additionally, I started to question if certain chapters were necessary because I didn't feel like they fit the flow of the story. For example, we knew Maggie was pledging but was an entire chapter dedicated to her pledging necessary? Somehow, we find out that Quan was pledging, too. Again, how important was that because this fool was always sleeping in Souxie's bag? Them visiting Crystal City? Not necessary. These details did not matter when it came to the actual storyline. But again, we are just vibing and letting the world of Drew Collins and the Underground build itself up according to Granger.
All in all, did I enjoy When a Wolf Loves the Moon? Yes, I did because the anticipation I felt after reading book 2 had me ready to read book 3 immediately. Maggie, the girls, and everyone else have practically been imprinted in my brain. I just felt like certain things were missing the mark for me and what I was anticipating with book 3 being released.
Now, am I excited for Birds of Prey? Kind of! I love Bellamy and I want him to have his book, but I don't know if right now is the time. I am hoping that we get more of Maggie, Asha, Souxie, and Isis. We still have a lot to learn about the girls. We need to talk more about what Asha has discovered, Souxie and Jean’s story, and finding more about Isis other than her liking sex and having all these brothers. I’d also like to dig more into Maggie’s family- her mom, dad, and especially the grandmother.
Though this was a smooth 3.5-star read for me, I know that the entire Drew Collins series is only going to continue to get stronger. Thank you so much to Granger for picking me as an ARC reader!
Please check your trigger warnings because the mention of SA does happen in a later chapter.

I wanted to be down right in love with this book but I was not. The title of this book is misconceiving because you would think it would be mostly based on Namir and Maggie but I felt it didn’t give them the amount of time she could have. The screen under the stars though was pretty good. I thought it was funny and sexxii. I feel like this series Granger is just enjoying introducing new people and plots but she’s not closing the ones previously opened. It’s like there is no true focus. At the end of the book she makes a statement about letting her get to book 4 and possible spin offs but truly everything is still under developed, so I’m a little me shocked to be getting a book for. This book still manages to leave you on a cliff hanger of randomness and still I feel unfulfilled and confused with mor questions than answers.
•Who is Asha? We learned a few small trinkets about her but overall we still don’t know shit. •Quan is a cat because !!!!!??? Where does he come from ???why has he not talked to his dad or arrested the step mom who supposedly cursed him??? •what exactly does Souzie do? Maggie??? Love her down… we 3 books in and still have no idea where the hell she came from or truly what she can do. Now we learn her daddy ain’t her daddy and are left there….. Namir & Maggie…. Why are they only getting this small pieces of the story ? •Now Bellamy got this human girlfriend ?? He’s in love??? wtf???
I just feel like she starts writing n then have intrusive thoughts and loses herself trying to ass all these plot points they go nowhere. 🤦🏾♀️…
Now I say all that and then I tell you that I did however somewhat enjoyed the book. There were a lot of good parts and I think there are great ideas. I just need them flushed out better.

I really enjoyed this third book! It answers so many questions and gives clarity on the murders that have taken place. Everything that has happened in The Underground might not be coincidental…
The girls are back together, and as always, I love their friendship! Quan is still a sassy sour pussy cat (at times) and his one liners are still undefeated haha. I will say that I thought Asha was really on one in this book, but she does grow and that was so nice to see after all she’s been through. Souxie was just as crazy and toxic as ever, but I loved every minute. I could read a book of her just terrorizing men. Please give us more Souxie! Isis though…. I have no words. Her brothers are amazing, and we finally get to meet them all!
Last but not least, Maggie! She really comes into her own and I am so freaking happy. She learns more about herself, and her relationship with Namir grows. We finally get THE moment, and it was 🌶. I vote for more of these scenes as well!
This book was wonderful, and I loved seeing so many storylines come together. This series is one of my favorites, and I cannot wait for the next one!
Ehh ... I read the book in its entirety, and I just don't know. It felt very lackluster. I hate to say that because I had high hopes. I can't really put my finger on what was missing, but it didn't make a lasting impression on me. The fact that it took me four days to finish it says a lot. When I picked it up to read it, I definitely did just that, but when I put it down, I wasn't rushing to pick it back up like I did with the first one. Or even the second one. It kind of felt like I finished it out of obligation
Oh shit that ending! Granger blew my mind yet again and I’m just like … 🫢
Ngl this took me a cool minute to get through, but it was still just as good as the other books. And even tho it was a bit slower than the first 2 in my opinion, it still had so many good parts and building points.
Firstly, I loved getting a chance to go back to DCU while reading this 🥲💕 ugh it makes me miss undergrad so much! Secondly, I appreciated how this was everyone’s level up book. All 4 girls (& Quan 🐱lol) each went through their own trials and tribulation fr. And I was so proud to see them all make it out the other side. And lastly, I can’t end this review without mentioning how freaking cute Maggie and Namir are 🐺💕🌙 Them 2 are literally everything. Like talk about power couple. I loved how we got to see them solidify their relationship and fully commit to each other. And the moments when it was just them were so sweet 😭 I couldn’t get enough of it tbh
Cant wait till the next book comes out tho to see how everything in the underground is now after that ending 😅 and how the girls ( and these guyssssss 😜) are gonna deal with all this
“We are the true power that the council is afraid of! We are the original kings and queens! The original black people! We are the original earth, moon, sun and skies!”
Thank you Granger for this opportunity to receive an ARC.
Wow! I know there’s more to come. The stuff that happens in this book had my jaw dropped, smiling, laughing, and talking ish. This group of friends are really the best and they’ve created their own family. Even when they have to get on each other from time to time you know it’s with love.
For me this book Maggie really gets to shine. Her relationship with her soulmate becomes stronger and they’re so adorable. Bellamy and Maggie’s relationship is growing as well. Bellamy doesn’t play with his big brother duties. Watching her confidence grow throughout the book and her becoming more comfortable with her power is amazing. I hope we get to see the other characters in the misfits crew fully developed even more for whatever happens next. Of course my boy Quan is always a standout star. I really enjoy his character and how he comes about his girls.
Mindful: trauma, missing people, drugged, sa, and secrets. This is a fantasy book with vampires, sirens, werewolves and everything magical in between.
Highlights: -Love the club name. -Their channel is so cute. -“Just because they’re blood doesn’t make them family.” -“When they smell you they will smell me… My scent…If another man comes up behind you, they will know you are spoken for, like your teacher. When I’m done with you, he shouldn’t even be comfortable looking you in the eyes without seeing me.”
So why did no one tell me this series was this good 😮💨 The mix of magic, mystery, and friendship pulled me in so deep. Every chapter felt like peeling back another secret, and just when I thought I had it figured out, Granger flipped everything upside down.
The tension between the girls, the danger creeping around campus, and that eerie sense that something bigger is coming all had me clutching my Kindle. I’m fully invested now, and I cannot wait to read more about Birdie and Bellamy. The way their connection keeps building has me kicking my feet and holding my breath at the same time.
Pros: characters' personalities, lots of character development, situations, action, adventures, revenge, Harry Potter references, that funeral scene, and that there's a content warning this time...(Also the idea of Quan and Isis getting together keeps getting teased, and we see how far Maggie and Asha have come!)
Cons: poor editing, narrator inconsistencies with pronunciation, narration choppiness (the male narrator would pause in the middle of a sentence sometimes like there was a period or comma when there wasn't), spelling and grammatical errors, character ressurections, and the author's notes to readers who critique her work (she put different notes at the beginning and the end of the book, so I started and ended the story with a lower mood instead of with excitement. Fans can critique a body of work and writing style while still enjoying the story. We paid for this. Relax, Granger.)
I think the Drew Collins series might be my safe space.
Maggie: Hold on Maggie! Everything is going too fast! One minute you’re learning to jump and you’re fighting with the girls (Asha was wrong) and the next you’re out her shifting yourself and the moon! I want more of Maggie and Namir but it’s happening so fast! She is older and everything, and I damn sure do love her as an alpha riding for Namir but I feel like we don’t get enough of their relationship.
Namir: I adore Namir and the way he loves Maggie and knows her well. He’s her safe space but always wants to protect her but at the same time, will let her rip everyone to shreds. It’s fuck his whole family though and I need to know that his dad is dead with Tyee.
Bellamy: I LOVE BELLAMY and want more! I’m also here for his relationship with Birdie and her son.
Isis: Whew! I’m so glad your body does what it does but i’m so tired of you and the crew splitting up all the time like there isn’t murder and death surrounding you guys and damn! I wanted Quan to be the one for you but he gotta be like your damn brothers. I feel like he will get you back though.
Quan: Don’t loose ISIS!!!!! As readers, there is so much we do not know about you but I hope we get to in the next book. Nobody rides for Isis the way you do.
Asha: ABOUT DAMN TIME!!! You started off on bullshit in the beginning of the book per usual but I am glad you are finally growing up and not only learning about your lineage but learning to love yourself too. Can’t wait for you and Solomon to reconnect.
Souxie: Not a lot of you this book but I know that will change. You always have something up your sleeve.
Dr.Marvin T. Holmes: Not you coming back with a conscious all of a sudden. I don’t know about you …
Whilimenia Holmes: May you rest in SHIT!!!!
Celeste: I was hoping to get more of you but the oracle in you jumped to a new body. This will be interesting.
Lovely: You just keep being you.
P.S. I am so here for the bromance between Bellamy and Namir. Also, this men group seeking revenge is everything to me!!! Put a stop to all the bullshit and prepare for war.
When I found out that we were not going to focus on Bellamy and Club Asylum in this book, I was excited because I needed Namir and Maggie after all the tension in the first two books. I needed their love story.
We start this book off with new characters, a new but somewhat familiar character in Celeste, and our favorite girl group. I was excited that Maggie and crew wanted to find the missing girls at Society Hill University but we strayed away from that storyline right away. I was confused on how Maggie was with the girls at Souxie's house now because when we ended book 2 she was being taken to the police station for questioning. What happened with that? Instead of finding the missing girls from The Hill, the girls got back to DCU and started fighting - add in Quan and his fatphobic jokes on Celeste and I was instantly pissed.
My favorite part of Book 3 was the chapter Underneath the Stars. Save from the random, unexpected, and heart shattering POV from Isis. Why did THAT POV have to be in Maggie and Namir’s chapter?! It soured the vibe for me and I hate that because their travel through the doors, countries, universities, and their special night was so beautiful to me. I highlighted so much!
This one started off so promising to me. However, I am confused on how some people who were clearly dead in Book 2 have come back to life without explanation in this one. Is it magic? I feel like we still don’t know the characters and their powers and they don’t know themselves either. It’s not fun to me to have to read and assume or try to fill in the blanks myself. Things that were important to me felt rushed, such as Asha’s history, the new university, the laboratory factored beings, what Maggie and Namir were planning in the background, and the funeral. I hope we can get answers in the next book instead of starting something completely new.

I have sooo many thoughts but unlike the previous two books this felt like the closing of chapter and beginning of something new. We saw all the girls grow and start to come into their own. I’m proud of all of them, but I’m so excited for Asha and Maggie! These new abilities and understandings they are experiencing are exciting. The ending threw me for a loop! Like, is this a new group? Lol overall, I enjoyed this so much, but I am excited for Bird of Prey and Book 4 to dive into this new world Wilemenah created. Also, Seth and the connection to Celeste was very interesting! Ahh, there is so much, and honestly, I may have to reread to make sure I caught it all!
10/10!!!! Desiree X Granger wrote her tail off on this!
I barely slept. This was so good. I have never been so happy to have the other 2 books! Gladly bounced between the other 2 while reading almost 700 pages, and I wanted more!!!
Everyone is going their own way... I don't know how I feel about it or what it means for the series.
However: *it was Maggie and Namir shutting that funeral DOWWWNNN for me!! *it was them together for the 1st time 😲❤️🔥😲❤️🔥🌕 *it was Solo for me! (Did u scream??) *it was the tears of relief I cried on Isis' attack!
Because how dare she write an attack before one of the most anticipated moments of the series🤦🏾♀️. Talk about a conflicted reader. I literally had to take a moment. #Triggered
🙅🏾♀️can't stand Maze wish-washy no loyalty having tail. 🙅🏾♀️What little sympathy I had for their mom, I lost over their treatment and dismissal of Namir.
Seth & the Oracle
“A message for me, and a warning for you.” - cause who this fah??? Huh? Who this fah? Talk about a double entendre!!
So, do you guys see spin-offs? If so, which character would you want to have their own book? *Professor Akeem/ Carmichael Holmes *Professor Birdie Jones and Bellamy, Duh 💁🏾♀️ Thx! *Francis Holmes crew, but I need my Drew Collins crew to get their HEA First or during.
How would I want the next book to go?
Since all three books have primarily been from the female characters' POV's or centered around them, it would be interesting to get more from the guys to round out their characters some.
😒 Killing the series seems rather on brand for this author. She writes until she gets bored and just stops. So I REALLY hope 🙏🏾 she doesn't.
When a Wolf... was very Maggie & Namir centered even indirectly.
As much as I didn’t care for Asha, the sexless siren - queen of nothing. As a possible conclusion, all we got was a "maybe there are others like her". Is she switching schools? Shoot, she didn't even sue the family! I need to see her coming into her own. I needed closure. Even if she doesn't end up with Solomon😉😌.
For Souxie to be so dismisive of the others talking about men. She doesn't have a story if it isn't linked to a man. It's her identity next to being sexy witch. She is so much more than Jean and their circumstance. He has given everything for her to be more! I needed her to be more!
If Solomon is not for Asha and Isis is not for Quan... I don't get it! I am trying but can't see Isis and Solo working this thing out outside of a truce.
Killing the series without at least one other Drew Collins book just doesn't make sense.
So they don't solve a mystery in book 4. They're not scooby doo, detective agency! Maybe take it to court and get Asha, some restitution money🤷🏾♀️... And her adoptive family by extension. Let the men take the lead in book 4. Anything.
I can let go with four books. I just can't let go here.
👎🏾Finally, we don't celebrate "Santa Clause". We celebrate Christmas and the Birth of Christ. "Santa and the Queen" was awesome and beautiful! To follow it up with a militia escort during the parade just diminished all the grandeur, fantasy, and wonder created in their book.
“It’s like the way you all celebrate Santa Claus…" NOT

I said what I said and as always: don't take my word for it. Read the book, form your own opinions, and support your authors! 🫶🏿📖👏🏾 AvailableonKU:
Granger definitely knows how to suck someone into a story!! I loved everything; I have no complaints. Granger done what needed to be done:
Asha learning more about her family and being in the water. Her scars fading was perfect. Im curious how the dating life will go for her since she left Isis brother high and dry. And how her relationship with Solo will blossom now that he’s back.
Namir & Maggie at that funeral 😮💨 Im glad she is finally tapping into her powers. And Namir standing ten toes down behind my girl !!
Isis thriving after her attack 👏🏽 and Quan stepping up for her. I wonder if she will change her mind about dating Quan.
Quan & Maggie’s probate 💚🖤
Poor Celeste!! I wonder if she has placed herself in Bryson’s body (Birdie’s son)
I wonder what Souxie has up her sleeve with Harvey . Birds of Prey not coming fast enough!!
This book had me falling out laughing , jumping up with excitement and having my IPad nearly to my eyeball reading on kindle unlimited when parts got so good. It was filled with action. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head as I pictured everything especially with that ending !
I loved how Maggie came into her own and we learned more about her power and so did she. The relationship development between her and Namir was so good as well. I loved how protective they were over each other.
I’m glad Asha partly overcame one of her fears, but sis needs a reality check because she was a bit problematic in this one . I love hearing more from Isis and how she gained a little confidence to speak up for herself and even how she self preserved when that bad situation happened. Souxie was more quiet in this one but I didn’t mind that. I love the small parts we got to see of Bellamy, though I wish we could get more of him and Maggie and their sibling relationship.
All in all I enjoyed reading this book. There were times where I felt like the loose ends that got tied up were uneventful and other times where I thought things would be more hype. I will say I’m glad a lot of questions were answered but I still have more questions so I need another book tomorrow!
I’ve been reading for nine thousand years, because miss ma’am doesn’t care to proofread or edit, and it was pissing me off. There’s basically only five star reviews for her, and while it’s great to have fans, y’all gotta be for real. The awful writing makes it so hard to not be taken out of the story! The second star is only because I like some of the characters so much, and the idea of what the story could turn into, is why I kept reading… But baby, the lack of editing ruins everything for me!
I quite literally started EDITING IN MY HEAD just to get through this, and that’s ridiculous. I made it through these three books, but I can’t continue—which sucks, because I really want to know what happens.
So many different times, the wrong character is speaking, the wrong words are used, and specific things are forgotten, which makes so many things feel foolish. Important things change, things are thrown in that don’t work, and there are way too many errors with words that made me say “girl, what?”
Maggie magically being HER, is aggy af because of the twisting of how she came to be, and the “truth” of it all, because if she can just read a book on her own for whatever, then can’t anyone?
One of the distinct things with Asha was completely washed away………. Literally… I hate it because it was a big part of her character. I’m glad she got some other things happening, but the erasure irritated me.
There were a few different abuse references. Dubcon and noncon things that made absolutely no sense made me feel icky, and it felt forced in such a strange way, I couldn’t tell if the author even knew what she was writing.
A character we hadn’t seen in a while returned, and I wish that would have come sooner, because I liked them, and it would have made another thing feel more natural.
The friend group is cool.
The time frames in the story were foolish, so I was confused. One second we were at three days, then two paragraphs later, someone else said it had been months, so idk. Certain topics were made big deals or minimized, when they should’ve been the opposite. What is this need to put in some tragic death out of nowhere, but make the characters not really feel the loss? Like?????????????
We don’t see enough magic, either. Like, it’s a magical HBCU, so give me something more than dramatic flings, and beefs between people who have no business beefing, or people just being attractive.
Basically, every issue could probably be fixed with editing. OR EVEN PROOFREADS!!!!!!!!!!! But I know…. “Quantity over quality” 😖
Glad miss girl has her supporters. Support her enough to help her proofread before publishing, so she can be even greater. She writes decent characters, so it would be nice to enjoy them, without the editing annoyances.
Summary: In book three, students are going missing under Wilhelmina’s guidance of the school. Asha is threatened to be kicked out as the Sirens have left the Underground and took their contributions with them. Finally, after two books, Maggie consummates her relationship with Namir as he finally sacrifices his ties to his pact to be with her. Namir’s older brother, Seth appears to take his rightful place as Alpha or will Namir be the Alpha that he has always meant to be? Maggie finally demonstrates the power that has always been inside of her. Is she really Gaia?
Tropes: opposites attract, family dysfunction, good v evil and intercultural conflict
Themes: childhood trauma, mental health, family secrets, intergenerational conflict between sirens, werewolves, witches, vampires, etc., ostracization, love conquers all.
Character: Namir is my first book boyfriend! He demonstrates his alpha position with Maggie but also exhibited a loving, nurturing and caring nature. He was super serious about Maggie, and he imprinted on her so that no other man would even think to look at her. He was definitely possessive but not controlling. He was just a sexy character that loved his family and only wanted to live his life and do what was right. I knew that he would eventually fall for Maggie because she was really cool and down to earth. She was definitely the opposite of Namir. A Vampire!
Thoughts: Like the first two books, this was nothing short of amazing. I really loved when her grandfather reappeared back into the book after being gone since the second book. I actually thought he was killed off, LOL. Bellamy was ruthless in the second book. I loved how Maggie began to become one with who she really is and started to really take her abilities seriously in attempts to find out what she is capable of. There was a lot of self-discoveries in this book and I love how Granger developed more of her confidence and character. Usually Maggie is the calm, cool and collected one and sits back but she really shined during the funeral. I was like “you better do it Maggie.” My favorite scene was when Namir and Maggie appeared at the funeral of his brother. I was like “yaaaasssssssss.” I think that was one of the sexiest scenes that not only showed Namir and Maggie’s bond but that loving someone different than your own was possible. However, I would like to see Souxie and Asha develop more of their powers so we can see what they are capable of. I would also love to see if Asha develops a relationship with Solomon because I know she low keys wants him! This book, six stars!!
I’m sooooo thrilled by this book. This is my first fantasy series and I’ve been in love since book 1. It was so much action that I didn’t even care about spice. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who’s a fantasy lover or scared to love fantasy!!!!
I had a really hard time finishing this book. I stopped and started at least a minimum of six times. The story was a bit all over the place, but it was a great story. I really loved the story that Granger was trying to tell. I wish that there was more. And I’m absolutely going to read the next one. The grammatical errors were a bit much but that’s also understandable because she does self .
While I am a legacy student at DCU, and consider each book to be a class, this class was not my favorite. Drew Collins University, DCU, is a Magical HBCU and this series follows Maggie Grey and her friends as they navigate the Underground. I enjoyed the previous two books for me, even though they were a bit chaotic and had loose ends. Book 3 was supposed to focus on Maggie and how she comes into her magic, and loves her partner, and unfortunately TO ME, the mark was missed.
I was looking forward to actually seeing magic in this story, as well as seeing the relationship between Maggie and Namir evolve and that just didn’t happen. We seen them in action one time, and after two books, and as a reader I felt robbed. Every other encounter was either off the page or implied.
As far as magic, Maggie doesn’t tap into her magic until the last 10% of the book, and the book is 600+ pages. Her Partner Namir was dealing with some deep family issues and even that wasn’t explored to its capacity, there were two scenes on the page with his family and everything else was either off the pages or implied.
If I am honest throughout the story, I felt like I was just reading cliff notes. Like the conversation was only between the Author and her characters and me as the reader was given a 2nd hand summary. Too much was left unsaid, while at the same time too much was going on. Such as Ty dying, like how was that just skipped over. One minute he goes off on Namir and the next he is dead. Or Holmes just walking into his office even though when we last seen him he was a pile of bones, and nobody reacts. Maggie and Namir were just side characters in their own book which was disappointing.. with that said I did enjoy Asha’s breakthrough her story took over the book, and instead of closing this out knowing more about Maggie I was left wanting to know more about Asha

I loved the first 2 Drew Collin’s books and was looking forward to this one but within the first 10 pages I became disappointed. This book seemed so rushed and thrown together. Hoping for a better turn out with book 4..
4⭐️🌶️ I loved this book despite some of the annoying ass characters but oddly enough I think I liked book 2 better? I think she needs to definitely continue the series and maybe branch out to mini series about the different mythical creatures. So glad Maggie finally stopped playing dumb and started taking her gifts seriously! Asha finally overcame her fears and What happened to Isis was sick! I really want her and Quan to workout! Also Quan is still my favorite character 🤗 I think we need more about him and his backstory/family because after 3 books he’s still a mystery! I think she could’ve left out Celeste! And I need Souxie to actually get a life besides playing detective!
Very good read! I love Maggie and Nahmir’s relationship together, especially at the end! The dynamic of the Asha, Souxie, Quan, Maggie, and Isis blend together so well as the stories progressed. (Ok Big Quan, I see you!!) The only reason it’s not a 5⭐️ for me was the tent scene, that was a bit toooooo much for me! Overall I enjoyed it.
{{ 3.75 }} It feels good to be back at Drew Collins with my girls!! I do think this book slightly suffered from middle book syndrome, but it definitely brought up a lot & pushed the plot forward. I have so many questions. I cannot wait until winter break is over!
Book 3 was amazing all ima say is the funeral scene was THEEEEEE best scene everrrrr such an amazing series can’t wait til book 4 because the cliff hanger 😮💨
I really loved this series in the beginning but something is throwing me off. So many pov’s and things happening and sorta feels rushed. Idk if I’ll continue on
