I’ve always wanted a pack to call my own. I just didn’t expect to have to fight for my place in it.
Being raised in a pack, I grew up knowing exactly what I wanted. A place where I’d belong, where I’d be loved and safe. So the night I smack pasta-first into a tall, scowling alpha who smells like he could be mine, I think I’ve finally found my happily ever after. A pack of strong, devoted alphas and a life full of warmth and protection.
I should have known better.
Instead of a fairytale, I walk straight into a pack on the verge of falling apart. Landon, Ronan, Jasper, and Dash may be some of the biggest names in professional hockey, yet off the ice, they’re barely holding it together. Weighed down by old wounds, broken trust, and one very stubborn alpha who refuses to accept me, they aren’t ready for an omega. But that doesn’t mean I’m walking away.
When I’m not drowning in my own mess of feelings, I’m pouring everything into my work at Harbour of Hope, helping omegas who have nowhere else to turn. It’s fulfilling. It’s safe. Until the day it isn’t.
Until a new patient’s history brings danger to our door. The kind I can’t escape on my own.
And now, the pack that can barely stand each other has to figure out how to stand for me.
Hannah is a twenty-something-year-old indie author from Western Canada. Obsessed with swoon-worthy romance, she decided to take a leap and try her hand at creating stories that will have you fanning your face and giggling in the most embarrassing way possible. Hopefully, that’s exactly what her stories have done!

I had high hopes for this story and was let down. I have read a lot of omegaverse books (nearly 200) so I feel well versed in the genre. This took all of the fun and more extreme parts of omegaverse and made them bland and boring. Why are they acting like Omegas can't take a knot whenever they want? Why are they waiting so long for sexual activity? And most of all, why the f*ck did she go doula while in heat??!! I know it was supposed to read like she was so dedicated to her job and that her men respected her autonomy, but that's not how heats work. You are not in your right mind; you are burning with fever; you are dripping slick; you aren't thinking coherently. That was unsafe for Briar and for the laboring mother. Also, Briar is 25 and co-owns the birth center with her OB-GYN doctor friend Clover, who we assume is the same age as Briar but it's really not clear. In no world is a 25-year-old a doctor. You are in medical school.
Landon is a straight up dickhead for semi-understandable reasons. He had some really great words, but they didn't feel quite like enough to make up for his actions.
This had both external and internal conflict. One or the other would have been enough. Having both detracted from the page time that could have been dedicated to showing a deeper emotional connection.
I don't usually get worked up about the birth control situation in romance books. If there's a passing conversation that's enough for me. This, however, had no BC discussion whatsoever. You f*cked for nearly 4 full days during her fertile time and didn't discuss it at all? Nah.
This felt like a contemporary sports RH romance with a sprinkle of omegaverse. Lots of people are signing the praises of this book - and for a lot of them, it seems this was their first omegaverse book so I don't really accept their ability to judge the quality of OV. I would like to bring reality back into the situation.
I liked Ronan best and his first meeting with Briar was well done.
This was my first time reading Hannah Cowan. I found the writing itself to be a little clunky - poor word choices and lack of flow. There were dozens of times that I had to go back to reread a couple of lines. I would try to read one of her sports romances to see if they work better for me.
Okay I missed the world of omegaverse, and what better way to dive back in than with this one! Let’s face it, if Hannah writes it, I’m going to read it. I don’t care what genre it is, but of course I loved this one because not only was it OV, it was hockey too!
I also have to say that if you are new to OV, this is a great starting point because it’s explained so well in the beginning but also throughout the book and just sucks you right into this world.
And I just love Briar and her boys!
✨ Hockey Omegaverse ✨ Grumpy x Sunshine ✨ Alpha Vibes ✨ Possessive boyfriends ✨ Fated Mates
I loved the pack dynamics of this one and how Briar was the center of their world. The boys relationship and brotherly bond with each other was also great, and I fell in love with Jasper, Ronan Dash and even grumpy Landon as they fell for Briar.
One thing I love about OV is the idea of fated pairings and packs that are soulmates in every way! Ans that what Briar found here!
Also if you think you can read an omega verse without it being absolutely filthy, think again…. It was so hot 🥵🥵🥵🥵
OKAY. I have been living under a ROCK when it comes to omegaverse. This was my very first one and now I want MORE. It was so addicting. Add in hockey players and I think I might be done for. This world that Hannah created was so fun. She was the perfect person to start my new journey with. She killed it, like always.
All of these men are..🤌🏼 I fell in love with every single one of them from the beginning. Each guy from the pack brings something different. Once Landon stop fighting himself and the pack, I WAS UNWELL. He has such a mouth on him.
I can’t wait to see what Hannah has in store for us in the next book!! Thank you so much Hannah Cowan for this eARC!
4/5⭐️ 2.5/5🌶️
Tropes: 🏒 Hockey Omegaverse 💙 Alpha Vibes 🏒Fated Mates 💙Grumpy x Sunshine 🏒Possessive Boyfriends 💙Helping Hands
This one had all the right ingredients, but none of the execution.
To summarize the characters: Briar is a blank slate doormat. Dash actually just made me uncomfortable. I can't put my finger on it and dont see any other reviews saying it, but the dynamic between him and everyone else just felt....wrong. Landon suddenly being all in made no sense. I constantly forgot about Jasper. Ronan was the only one I liked.
The side characters were more compelling than the main ones.
If you read omegaverse, you HAVE to read this book. I am pretty new to the genre, but I ate this book up. Briar is an omega and she would love to find a pack to call her own, but a pack that respects her job as a doula. When she does find her scent matches, things aren't easy because two of the four have reservations about having an omega join their pack. I looovvedddd how all in and obsessed the two guys were, and I understand the other two being hesitant because of their pasts and their own trauma. This was definitely on the long side and mostly focused on the relationship development between Briar and the members of the pack, but I had so much fun reading it! I loved that the guys were hockey players and loved the scenes at their games! I can't wait to see what omegaverse stories Hannah writes next!
2.5 ⭐️ I’m honestly disappointed I didn’t love this book—it had so much promise, but it just didn’t deliver. The pacing felt off: despite being a long read, the slow burn dragged on too long, while the plot and character development somehow still felt rushed. I appreciated the multiple POVs, but some characters were overshadowed, which was a shame because I really liked them all and loved how distinct they were.
I was also thrown by the dynamic between Dash and Landon—it came across like Dash was obsessed, which made me expect something more between them. And with two major plotlines that didn’t quite connect, the story felt scattered.
I’m a big fan of Hannah Cowan’s book, and while I usually love her storytelling, this one just didn’t land for me.
I enjoyed this book, the characters, the romance, and the character development were done well in my opinion. There were some editing mistakes that made some scenes sound confusing, but otherwise I had fun reading this one. Omegaverse is a genre that helps get me out of slumps usually, idk why just does, and this one definitely did the job!
Idk what to rate this. Objectively it was bad, lots of grammar/writing issues that took me out of the moment. HOWEVER, I would like 4 boyfriends and a giant nest bed for spicy times.
I am forever disappointed that everyone doesn’t shift in omegaverse books because… why don’t they?? But this was pretty standard reverse harem OV with one girl/omega, 3 alphas, and a beta.
What better way to pop my omegaverse cherry than have Miss Hannah do it? I didn't really know what to expect going in with it being my first omegaverse but I really loved this story, their dynamic and the vibes. Briar was truly the center of the guys' worlds and I was here for it. They just really only wanted her to be happy and cared for. The rejection and tension leading up to the breaking point was done so well and I adored all of the guys and how each of them handled everything.
If you're new to OV, then I think this would be a fantastic starting point as Hannah does such a great job explaining the world at the beginning of the book!
Briar, Jasper, Ronan, Dash & Landon hockey omegaverse grumpy x sunshine Mfmmm fated mates
“I wouldn’t burn the world down. I’d remake it. I’d tear it apart thread by thread until nothing existed but you, me, and our pack. I’d pull the stars from the sky and shatter time itself before I let anything take you from me.”
This is one of those books where I didn’t want to put it down but I also wanted to savor it as long as possible because I love these characters and this pack. Briar (FMC, omega) is the perfect balance of strong and independent while also leaning into her omega tendencies and her men (Landon (alpha), Jasper (alpha), Ronan (alpha) and Dash (beta)) all compliment her in different but important ways. This is this author’s first omegaverse (and first why choose) novel, but you wouldn’t know unless you knew. Each character has a distinct personality and motivations, they are each pieces of a beautiful if not slightly fractured found family that just needs a little push (or an omega) to help them find their happiness. The pack is already established before the story starts, and they are looking (well maybe not…) for an omega to complete them.
If you are just finding the omegaverse because of this book, welcome! This is a good place to start. This novel reads like this author’s other books, just with the addition of things that make it distinctly OV (think heats, knots, nesting, bonding, scent matches, that kind of thing — I know it can be a little overwhelming, but she provides a handy guide explaining all of those and more in the front of the book). I don’t typically love the rejected mates trope because I prefer lower angst stories personally, but I went into this with an open mind and I have to say I love how the author handled it in this story. It is definitely a *light* rejection, Briar and her other men figure out how to deal with the pack being fractured together and things are cleared up and relationships form sooner than a lot of books that utilize this trope — I would definitely classify this as a lower angst book in that regard compared to others in the genre. I love how the men encourage her to pursue her dreams even if/when there is risk involved and there is “you came”, “you called” scene that made me emotional.
Don’t let the longer page count intimidate you, this book is worth the time investment to read it. Keep in mind there is more than one relationship being formed and explored, so it will be longer compared to your standard contemporary romance. This is everything I want in a sweet contemporary omegaverse and I hope this author writes more in the future because I will be the first in line to read if she does.
*Thank you so much to the author and her team for the opportunity to ARC read this book! All opinions are my own*
This was okay. I thought it had lots of potential but the second half was a let down.
First let’s chat about things I liked. I loved Ronan the sweet possessive Alpha who’s all in from moment one and Jasper who was right there with him. I even liked the Grumpy Alpha, Landon, who didn’t want an Omega. I thought that brought some nice drama within the pack and I loved how the FMC, Briar, kept pushing him and never gave up.
Now let’s move on to some things that weren’t so great for me. To start the book was a bit too long for what it was.
I did like that Briar was a doula and helped out her OB/GYN BFF deliver babies. That was cool but I did not like the storyline with the pregnant Omega Sadie who had a restraining order against her Alpha’s. This storyline felt unnecessary and took away from the main storyline. Often it didn’t even make sense. At one point the Omega called two other Omega’s (a doctor and a doula) in the middle of the night when her ex was banging on her door instead of the cops because she didn’t want to disturb them at the late hour. That was so ridiculous. It’s literally their job and it would get the guy put on jail for not adhering to the restraining order. But somehow it was more logical to engage two unmated Omegas. That was just dumb.
The next issue for me was the slow burn. She fools around with the guys a little bit but doesn’t get any full on penetrative sex until around 80%. And she makes some weird comments about how they are too thick to fit when she’s not in heat. So that leads me to believe she only has sex during her heats? Really? That doesn’t make sense either.
This issue annoyed me probably more than any other. We are coming back to her job as a doula now. For some God forsaken reason Sadie goes into labor just as Briar is going into full on heat. But Briar decides that she wants to still be there for the labor even though she’s in pain, weak, cramping, perfuming everywhere, and dripping slick in buckets. Her Alpha’s let her do it in an attempt to show her that they support her and trust her decision making skills but it was so dumb. Again, it didn’t make sense. Another Omega, especially one giving birth would be sensitive to all those scents, let alone her distress.
I did not care for Dash the Beta. This character seemed like the Grumpy Alpha’s lackey. He had no personality of his own. He was just desperate to please Landon. It’s surprising that he’s not secretly pining for Landon. Or maybe he is.
Lastly, I would have liked to see some more full circle healing for Landon and his family. His father gets mentioned very briefly at the very end in the extended epilogue. Things are all good there but I really needed more.

Something about the dynamic here didn’t work for me. The Montgomery pack was so strained and it felt like it became Briar’s job to stitch them back together. She was constantly putting herself out there for them (Landon) to rebuff her or treat her with cautious politeness (Dash.) Jasper and Ronan were great and were all in with Briar from the beginning but the focus of this was the pack. I’m not here for the men to get all the attention and growth!
How easily everyone swept Landon’s behavior under the rug after he decided he wanted Briar bothered me. There is no grovel and I would have liked for him to verbally acknowledge how selfish he was to try to keep Briar from his packmates. He had met her first but kept it a secret because he didn’t want an omega, knowing his pack did. The audacity he had after finally accepting her then to start being a bossy pack leader about her safety immediately after. He wanted her gone but acted like that was all in the past when it was 20 minutes ago. He should have been on his knees.
The suspense element with the other Alpha’s and Briar’s clinic may as well have not been there at all. If the omega is in danger I want defcon levels of protectiveness. The pack’s response in this was kinda meh. Also, Briar calling Landon after her apartment was broken into?!? So out of left field considering how he treated her and a bit of a slap in the face to Ronan who literally slept outside her house to protect her. It just felt like a way for the author to bring Landon and Briar together but he didn’t earn that level of trust from her.
Honestly I was going to rate this a 3 but the more I think about it the more issues I had. There were some sweet moments and I really liked Ronan and Briar. No third act breakup so that’s a plus. But the story was more focused on the pack and their struggles than Briar and what she needed. I don’t read why choose omegaverse for the men to be the center. It’s a 2.5 star read at best.

Hannah Cowan continues to write universes that I would give anything to be a part of, and this venture into a new genre for her was a SLAM DUNK.
She put every single trope/moment that I adore from reading omegaverses in one book and I ate it up in under 24 hours. Each character was developed so well and they added a lot to the pack as a whole and their individual relationship with Briar.
I love Briar, I loved how she refused to lose her identity when she became a part of the pack and her men were understanding and caring about it. The men, wow the men were everything. The LandonxBriar plotline was exactly what I had been looking for recently in an omegaverse. Jasper and Dash were amazing in their own right as well. Ronan however, RONAN STOLE THE SHOW FOR ME. I am always going to eat up a "bad boy" mmc who immediately becomes a softie simp for his girl and Ronan was just chef's kiss, PERFECTION.
I am being very honest when I say I could discuss this book for hours and not get bored. You could tell that Hannah put her all into this book and really enjoyed her time writing it because her words showcase that so well. I can't wait to see where this series goes. Another Hannah Cowan HIT.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alright so here we go. This was a solid book for this genre and really my only complaint was that our main plot line was pretty loose and we don't really get much tension outside the pack tension. That's fine obviously I just wanted more about the issue with the other alphas, maybe some more building out of her job in general. It has some scenes so don't get me wrong but it felt like it was supposed to be the focus then wasn't.
As for the romance it's a pretty solid omegaverse. We get the connection, the groveling, the whole shabang. I wish we had gotten a little more of a real apology from Landon. He kind of blurred past everything and it was dropped super fast. As for Dash, I find it odd that he just had a block until he didn't any more? I don't even feel like he really acknowledged the connection until he absolutely had too, which with this style of book seems odd. These over powering pheromones did nothing to you? Because your best friend may not like it? Sure I guess.
This was my first dive into an omegaverse romance and I had so much fun with it! It was the perfect book for a first timer because it explained everything up front and also had the familiar elements of a hockey romance. In no time, I was completely sucked into this world and cheering for Briar to get her pack!!
I loved this group of hockey playing men so much. They were all so different but they all cared about each other in a big way. More than anything though, I love how Briar was the piece that they all had been missing and she was able to complete them in the most perfect way. They also didn't want to change her and instead encouraged her and supported her. *swoon*
And holy spice. There were four men in the pack and Briar had just about every combination of them imaginable, but it felt a little like a slow burn to her having the whole pack. Phew. It had me blushing my face off.
If you enjoy hockey, spicy, and why choose romances, you should totally give this book a read!

I thought Omegaverse was anything werewolves?! There were no werewolves here… Did I have it wrong all this time?
My only experience with „knots” comes from the „Bride” by Ali Hazelwood and those were some wolves, which makes sense with all the alphas, betas, omegas and packs. Now I’m just confused.
And if that’s what Omegaverse is, then I don’t think it’s for me.
It almost felt like it should have been narrated by David Attenborough with how animalistic it felt in its gist. The entire plot came down to uncontrollable primal urges, relationships based on „scent matches” and those heats and ruts that took away from their humanity.
The emotional connection was almost irrelevant, it was all about physical relief they were almost mindlessly chasing.
That was the whole plot. No actual story, no substance, just some good ol’ animal mating ritual.
If that’s what Omegaverse is actually about, then I guess it’s not the book, it’s me.
3.5/5 overall rating, 3.5/5 spice rating i had been wanting to read this one and finally caved and bought it. while it very much hit the spot (i’m fairly easy to please when it comes to an omegaverse, as in i either finish it or dnf it pretty immediately), there were a few things missing or that i just didn’t like. to name a few, briar going to be a doula during her heat (literally felt CRAZY), them all wanting to wait until her heat to have sex (waiting to bond sure, but sex? hmm), no discussion about birth control (a fairly integral part to most omegaverses), and very little groveling from characters who needed to grovel (aka landon - don’t get me wrong, his trauma was obviously valid but boy said some harsh things early on. i didn’t really like how his and briar’s relationship developed overall.). i will also say, i did notice quiet a few editing errors, which is just a pet peeve for me. overall, added to my list of completed omegaverses but not good enough to add to the list of comfort reads.
I was so excited for this book. I really, REALLY wanted to love it, I’ve loved other work from this author but damn.
For an author who stated this was a genre she truly loved SO much, it fell incredibly flat and some aspects of the story made absolutely no sense for an omegaverse.
Walking away from a scent match? The beta following blindly, practically rejecting his scent match? The absolute underwhelming conclusion to that? Disappointing.
Anticlimactic family acceptance when it was such a HUGE part of one of the MMCs character, pretty much his whole personality.
Withholding s*x and not giving an omega, having heat spikes a knot when she’s begging? The talk of bonding SO SOON with hardly any relationship development, I mean they wouldn’t even sleep in the same bed.
Don’t even get me started on the nest.
Having an omega in active heat go to her job and help deliver a baby? Absolutely not. Yeah, go girl for staying strong and independent but girl what tf you thinking?? Her alphas allowing it to happen, full well knowing that there are TWO dangerous alphas who are hanging around, who have already threatened the FMC and BROKE IN TO HER APARTMENT?! But all good, you go into work alone while in heat and we will be good little boys LOL

This was unfortunately not her best work by far. Many of the chapters felt cut off. It can be difficult to juggle individual relationships between so many characters and this book felt like it was simultaneously rushed and way too long. A lot of the character development felt surface level to the point where I only believed one or two of the relationships to be real (Ronan, clover, maybe Landon). Chapters would happen where finally a deeper moment was happening and then it would end and there would never be a follow up. I wouldn’t normally judge so harshly but I’ve read all of Hannah cowan’s other books and they all ranked very high for me and clearly had well thought out characters and storylines. This one felt rushed and I was left disappointed by what could’ve been a great start to a series
I really wanted to like this one. The plot had all the right ingredients … hockey players, pack dynamics, found family, a why choose romance … but it just didn’t come together for me.
Briar was okay. I didn’t hate her but I didn’t connect with her either. She felt a little too passive for my taste. Dash and Landon were both hard no’s from me and I barely even registered Jasper. Ronan was the only one I felt anything for and that’s saying something. I just didn’t click with the pack which kind of defeats the whole point of a pack romance.
The story had potential but the execution fell flat. It wasn’t terrible, just not for me. I’m in a bit of a slump and sadly this one didn’t pull me out of it.
This had so much potential (sports + omegaverse) but it fell flat. It was a long book but somehow felt rushed, especially with the plot and character development. Still a decent read.
Briar's decision to work as a doula during her heat made no sense as it would've been dangerous for the expecting mother. Landon did a 180 without any apologizing/groveling, just internally blamed himself. Loved Ronan, and I wish Briar had called him for help instead of Landon, especially since he was the one regularly acting as her bodyguard in front of her apartment. Jasper seemed sweet, but was overshadowed by the other alphas. Dash had blind loyalty to Landon and then suddenly unblocked his scent match pull to Briar.
