An educational story about the care of pet spiders and the differences between insects and arachnids also has a gentle sibling rivalry plot about access to the title spider.
Super mild.
But it's one of those books that I've had since I was a kid, and I remember looking at the pictures a lot before I could read.
Wolfie (Paperback) by Janet Chenery- Hindi language translation by Vidushak, Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- This book narrates the story of school going students Harry and George who have placed wormy spider in a covered glass jug. They are hiding with the jug in Harry’s pet dog Bify’s house outside their house. Harry’s sister Polly also wishes to join in viewing the spider. After consulting a book, they find that Wolfie is a Wolf spider. Wolfie does not build a net to catch flies, she runs to catch flies. Harry enquires from his mother whether she has a larger jar for wolfie. His mother says that they already have two pets Bify dog and Infy cat. Harry’s mother still provides him a large jar and advices them to visit the local Nature Centre and meet Miss Rose. When they meet Miss Rose, she informs that Wolfie needs water and second, they must place some leaves and drops for water for Wolfie. Illustrations help the reader in relating to the story. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.
A younger sister's urge to feed "Wolfie" is added to some useful information about wolf spiders; it turns out that she is a dead-on expert at stunning flies for Wolfie's meals with a rubber band.
This is a book that I saved from when I was a kid. My 8 year old and I read it together and he really liked it. I wish I could find other books like this that were easy to read and with a simple but interesting story.
This is a wonderful children's book about Wolfie the spider and his owner. I have read it to many, many children and they loved it. One of my favorite children's books.
