Life doesn’t always work out the way you want it to.
If I had my way, I would’ve married him in a heartbeat. Even knowing the consequences, I would’ve fallen willingly and gladly into his raging storm. It didn’t matter that we were teenagers, that he was the heir to the rival Keane family, or that I was arguably too young to know he was the love of my life. When we were together, all that danger was just static noise we tuned out...until that fateful day.
Eleven years later, I can still find the sharp ache of his betrayal right where it burrowed. It’s haunted me with each breath, no matter how often I lied to myself I was moving on.
Only now, my brother has gone missing. Sent into Keane territory on a mission to be made, no one has heard from Mason in weeks. Any goodwill I had with the Bianchi family dried up long ago, when my father died. Now, the only way I can save my brother is to swallow the bitter sting of betrayal and beg Callahan for help. Somehow, I choke the words out, each one more painful than the last, but for Mason, I’d do anything.
The only catch? Callahan needs a wife. And he’s been waiting for the day I return.

₊˚ʚ ➼➻❥𝙢𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨💭 ╰┈➤ from the very first chapter of this book, i was already hooked. this book is filled with lots of crime and i feel like i haven’t read a lot of romance books where crime is the plot. there was a lot of rivalry going on, especially between the two main characters, loren and cal. something i didn’t do before reading this book, was check the trigger warnings. i would advise everyone to definitely check the trigger warnings, because there are a lot of sensitive topics. but, i did very much enjoy this book.

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣🔒 ╰┈➤ even though it took me like 20 days to finish this book, it was so worth it. if you love second chance romance with a criminal underworld twist and a plot that keeps you breathless, definitely add this to your tbr. this story is messy, magnetic, and impossible to look away from, just like loren and callahan’s relationship.
callahan is not a likeable character. i didn't think much of the prologue, but when kyra appeared and how he reacted to her, i just felt icky. this is supposed to be a second-chance romance??? reformed players should have reformed before proposing marriage to their first loves 💀 there's also the way they broke up as teenagers 😭😭 it's probably a misunderstanding or he did it to protect loren or something, but i hate these kinds of excuses.
when you don't like the MC, it's hard to fall in love with the story, and this was no exception. i didn't care for the characters except maybe cohen, and while the romance did get my heart fluttering, i couldn't forget how much callahan annoyed me.
romeo and juliet, maybe. but i wished it was handled differently. despite cal's character, i think i could have pushed through if it hadn't been for the new drama with alice. it feels a little off to have so many problems when it should be focused on loren and cal's rekindling—because now their playful dynamic feels cheap. when loren was bantering with cal, i was thinking, um shouldn't you be more concerned about your friend??? who gives a fuck about the coffee and being petty, and which room you should sleep in? there's also withholding information bc she's pissed at cal for underestimating her, and i'm?? 💀💀 girl, there's a life on the line. several lives, actually, and you're behaving like a teenager.
so. with that being said, i liked the writing and the idea of this story, but it didn't deliver the way i wanted it to.
thank you netgalley for sending me this copy for free. it sucks it didn't work out.
**1.5 stars** I came across fanart of the two main characters on Instagram and LOVED it so much that I looked on my kindle app to see if this book was available. When I saw the arc on NetGalley, I never clicked apply so fast. Sadly, the fanart did not live up to my expectations which led me to dnf at 30%.
When Loren’s brother goes missing, she turns to none other than Callahan Keane–the supposed love of her life when they were teenagers. After Callahan’s betrayal, the two don’t speak for the next 11 years until Loren walks into the Keane family establishment to beg for help. Only Callahan has been waiting for their reunion and proposes a mutually beneficially arrangement: marriage. Conflicted, Loren accepts his marriage proposal and then spurs the ongoing search for her brother.
As a lover of mafia romances, this one didn’t work for me. The writing wasn’t terrible and it definitely fits the genre but everything else needed some flourishing. While arranged marriages are a common trope in mafia romance, I haven’t read a second-chance arranged marriage before, so I was intrigued. The opening chapters pulled me in, and I initially thought Loren was a strong female lead. But as the story progressed, her supposed strength gave way to constant begging. It began to feel like I was reading the inner monologue of a 17-year-old girl on summer break—stubborn and convinced she knows everything.
Despite this book being 400 pages long, the foundation of the story was not solid enough for the story to be built off of. We’re told they had a relationship as teens, then didn’t speak for 11 years—but we’re never told their actual ages, which made it hard to place them. The constant repetition of “the past 11 years” and “as teenagers” became grating, especially since so many questions about their history remained unanswered. I kept hoping the details would come later, but I couldn’t push through.
I understand this is the first book in a new standalone series, which likely explains the overwhelming character dump at the beginning. It became confusing quickly, though I assume each Keane sibling will get their own book.
If you're an avid mafia romance reader, this one might be worth skipping—there are stronger books in the genre, especially on Kindle Unlimited. But if you're new to mafia romance and looking for a low-stakes introduction, this might be a decent starting point.
Through Any Fire is about a marriage of convenience between two people who used to be in love a decade ago who are on opposite sides of drug lord families. Our FMC, Loren’s, baby brother goes missing and she needs the help of rival gang leader, Callahan Keane, and the Keane drug empire to try to find out exactly what happened.
And him? He needs a wife. Yes I did giggle and kick my feet when I read this. Does it make sense that he does at the time? Not really….? Do I care? NOPE I AM SIMPLY JUST A GIRL. Cue the : “get your hands off my wife” x10 on crack over and over I was doing cartwheels around my house.
The book starts off in the club with tensions high and our girly Loren is flirting with some rando buying her red wine she hates and the MMC enters talking about “she drinks whiskey” sliding the cup in front of her….hello! I was barking. I was BARKINGGGGGGG. Hooked.
The MMC….Callahan…..is down BAD for this girl. She thought he forgot about her a decade ago? Guess again! Every single thing he’s ever done in his entire existence has been yearning for this girl. I mean I’m talking he had her childhood shampoo on tab, slept on the other side of the bed, worn out a copy of Romeo & Juliet etc etc. This man is DOWN HORRENDOUS. And he’s literally everything.
The action scenes and drama throughout the book was very fast paced and I was STRESSED.
When you realize why the book is named Through Any Fire? 10/10 I fear! I also really love the cover of the book and the artwork inside is truly divine.
This will be an interconnected standalone series and I actualy cannot wait for the next book. Alice’s story is gonna be a tough read. I have a very strong inkling who the new MMC to be is going to be and if so…I am so seated.
Read the trigger warnings before reading if there are topics that upset you. There is also a few (hot!) open door spice scenes.
Thank you to Katherine Carter and NetGalley for the ARC!
Thank you NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This book was sooo good!!! I loved Loren and Cal, their love was incredible. Mafia romance might just be one of my favorites and this did not disappoint. The writing was sooo well done and I loved how the whole book was so action packed.
Katherine Carter has delivered a phenomenal start to The Any Collection with Through Any Fire. This book is a captivating and emotional rollercoaster that grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. The premise alone is enough to pique your interest: forbidden love, betrayal, rival families, and a desperate bargain. But Carter executes it with a masterful hand, creating a story that is both heartbreaking and hopeful.
The chemistry between the protagonists is electric, even after years of separation and the sting of betrayal. The "rivals turned lovers turned strangers" trope is executed flawlessly, and the forced proximity and marriage of convenience only amplify the tension. You can feel the weight of their shared history, the unspoken words, and the raw passion that still burns beneath the surface.
The single POV allows you to truly connect with the female protagonist, understanding her motivations, her pain, and her unwavering love for her brother. Watching her navigate the treacherous waters of the Keane family, forced to rely on the man who broke her heart, is both agonizing and empowering.
Callahan is the perfect tortured hero. He's complex, flawed, and undeniably magnetic. You can sense the internal battle he wages, the remorse he carries, and the fierce protectiveness he feels for the woman he thought he lost.
Through Any Fire isn't just a romance; it's a story about family loyalty, forgiveness, and the enduring power of love. It's a story that will stay with you long after you turn the final page. I devoured this book and I'm already eagerly anticipating the next installment in The Any Collection! Highly, highly recommended!
If you’ve been here for a while you know that marriage of convenience or fake dating are my favorite tropes! When Katherine opened ARCs for this book with marriage of convenience I RAN to apply!
This one is super fast paced and action packed so get ready to buckle down because I almost read this whole book in one sitting!
When Loren’s baby brother goes missing, she asks the rival mafia family leader and her ex flame Callahan Kane for help locating him. Cal is happy to help, in exchange for a wife. The marriage happens quickly and we get soooo much tension in the marriage and forced proximity in the house. There is quite a lot of action happening with locating Loren’s brother and mafia rival families engaging in turf wars. During all this action, we see many small reasons Cal has pined over Loren since they broke up. Cal still has Loren’s shampoo in his shower, he refused to sleep on her side of the bed for years, he remembers she doesn’t like cheese (we are judging you for that one, Loren), and he kept a worn version of Romeo and Juliet.
Read this book if you like:
🎀 marriage of convenience 💍 second chance romance 🎀 mafia family 💍 forced proximity 🎀 “it’s always been her” 💍 mutual pining 🎀 plenty of “my wife” moments 💍 FMC who saves herself
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Through Any Fire releases on July 28, 2025!
Thank you so much to Katherine Carter for the eARC!!
I was definitely not expecting this book to be so damned action packed! I should have known seeing as it's a mafia romance.
I felt as though the story was really well balanced between the romance, plot and pacing. So much was happening yet I didn't have that feeling of details being skipped over, it was all nicely hashed out.
I'll definitely be returning for the next book in this world!
Thank you NetGalley for the copy for me to review.
While I love my mafia romance reads this one didn’t hit the mark. I do believe that it was more so my instant dislike for the MMC. Reformed player can be 50/50 for me and unfortunately I just couldn’t help but feel that Cal fell under the category of not being likeable and rather gave me the ick. Although Loren is describe as a strong female I felt that at times she would easily cave in. I do wish the author would have kept that strong headed female role like Loren started out in the book. I will admit that the plot was a bit too long IMO. Overall I would give this read a 2.75 ⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I overall really enjoyed the storyline and the romance between the MCs. The plot was fast-paced, twisty, and exciting. Everyone had secrets and I enjoyed the suspense.
I did feel like the beginning was a bit rushed and not as fleshed out as the middle and end, but the second half of the book was solid. There was also some depth missing for me and I didn’t feel fully connected to the characters or story.
However, I think this was a fun read, especially if you like the tropes (mafia romance, second chance, marriage of convenience, slow burn). I’d give this 3.5 stars!
gave this ago solely bc of the cover and this book did not disappoint, it was so good!! the mystery subplot was SO addicting. obviously i'm oblivious to everything so i didn't see the plot twist coming
Uhm, I actually devoured this book. It's been awhile since I've finished a book so quickly, but the pacing and storyline was perfect for me. Through Any Fire is mainly in Loren's POV, but we get just enough of some chapters in Cal's POV that I appreciate. I love dual POVs so I wasn't too disappointed.
Loren Catrone was a great FMC for me. She is strong, a fighter, and doesn't give up on the people that she loves. In this book, Loren enters a marriage of convenience with her ex-boyfriend Callahan Keane. Cal asks for her hand in marriage saying that he needs a wife (uh huh, sure Jan), and in return, he will help Loren look for her brother. Loren's brother Mason has gone missing after being sent on a mission by the mafia family their family worked for, the Bianchis. Loren has a deep resentment towards Callahan because he broke her heart when they were younger. It is made to seem like Cal cheated on Loren, which ended their relationship.
Callahan Keane is the head of the Keane family. It turns out that Cal didn't cheat on Loren, but created this master plan to save her from his father. He had to hurt Loren so badly that she'd leave him—and this makes Cal kind of put all of his focus on taking over as the head of the Keane family. Cal is crazy protective, very still in-love with Loren, BUT he has SECRETS!!!
Another thing that I just love in a mafia romance is when the FMC can handle her own. Yes, Cal did save Loren in some areas of the book, but this girl is a FIGHTER. She can fight grown ass men and would run into a fire to save her man (literally!). It's so refreshing to not always be the damsel in distress all the time.
In Through Any Fire, there are secrets, lies, plot twists that I somewhat felt like I saw coming but didn't???, and just good old fashion mafia plots like car bombs, rival families, a hate to love relationship between our FMC and MMC. I love the second chance at love here and the Romeo and Juliet vibes it gave off. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next books. Fantastic job, Katherine! I was hooked!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I picked up Through Any Fire by Katherine Carter because the pretty cover and the character art caught my eye, and the tropes definitely got me curious. Marriage of convenience, rival families, and second-chance romance sounded too good to resist. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump, so this felt like the perfect book to shake things up. I don’t usually go for darker themes, but this one turned out to be such a refreshing change.
The story follows Loren and Callahan, whose past is tangled with betrayal and family rivalry. I really liked how the single POV mainly from Loren kept certain things hidden, especially what really happened in the past between them. Callahan does get a few POV chapters too, but they’re spaced out just enough to give insight without that overwhelming back-and-forth you read in other books. I had a feeling there was more to his past actions than Loren believed, and as the story unfolded, those suspicions proved true. The way it was revealed felt natural and built up well, keeping me curious to the end.
As I said earlier, the book has a good mix of romance, action, betrayals, and a few 'explosive' moments that kept things moving quickly. Loren’s choices had me frustrated at times, but they felt believable with everything she was dealing with. I also liked that not everything was wrapped up at the end,it leaves room for the next book, and I’m curious to see where her friend’s story will go. And Cohen? I like him.🤭
If you love: 💍 marriage of convenience ❤️🩹 second chances 🥃 rival families with Romeo & Juliet vibes 💌 secrets, betrayal, and a reformed playboy 🔥 and a love that refuses to burn out...
Then this one’s for you.
Through Any Fire comes out on July 28, so make sure to preorder and add it to your TBR!
Thanks to the author and netgalley for the early copy.
*I received an advance reader copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.*
i received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. this does not influence my opinions in any way. thank you so much for the opportunity!
the way that this is my most anticipated ARC read and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!! through any fire is a marriage of convenience, second chance romance complete with tension, angst and all the action!
the book starts out with getting the plot immediately going as our fmc, loren, seeks the mmc, callahan, to ask for help in finding her missing brother. of course, i squealed so loud when cal say he "needs a wife" so this sets the marriage of convenience going!
tensions were high between the two because what do you expect from a hurting, jilted woman and the crass, unfeeling man who broke her heart? i live for this kind of angst ugh spectacular give me 14 of them right now! to make this even better, the second chance romance here is a slowburn so we don't really get much romance from them for the majority of the book, and the spice doesn't even come until more than half in, but when you get there, it's soooo worth it!
i don't know how many times i held my breath because this is action-packed: we get car chases, gun fights, fist fights, explosions! the plot also kept me hooked, i was invested on what happened to mason and i wasn't sure why i didn't see it coming when it was finally revealed lol.
finally, i was left in tears in this book's last chapter. i don't want to accidentally spoil anything for you so all i'm gonna say is that it delivered the emotions i was expecting when going into this book.
there were a couple of loose ends, which i hope would be resolved in the next installment of this series. and it's alice's book up next. i'm so intrigued to see how her story unfolds and curious how
(also, can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the cover is?! we're also blessed with gorgeous character art that you can find on the author's instagram!)
don't miss out on loren & cal's story! this will be available on kindle unlimited on july 28th or you can pre-order the gorgeous paperback and even more beautiful hardcover on the author's website!
4.5 ★ When I say Katherine never misses, HOMEGIRL NEVER MISSES.
I had the absolute pleasure of reading Through Any Fire TWICE (yes, twice!!), and can I just say: I fell hopelessly, head-over-heels, crying-in-the-club in love with Loren and Cal. I'm a SUCKER for a second chance romance — something about broken hearts finding their way back to each other just completely wrecks me in the best way — and when you throw in a marriage of convenience?! Girl, I was HOOKED from page one.
And CAL. WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH HIM?!?!?! This man is the definition of down bad. You look up “down bad” in the dictionary and there’s a picture of Callahan Keane, brooding in a dimly lit library or something, probably rereading Romeo and Juliet for the hundredth time. YES, he owns a copy that’s been reread so many times it looks like my own copy of For the Fans. AND GUESS WHAT?? When he first met Loren, SHE WAS CARRYING ROMEO AND JULIET. I—!!!!
Also. This man hasn’t slept on her side of the bed in ELEVEN. YEARS. ELEVEN!!!! Siri, play I Want to Know What Love Is.
And don’t even get me started on the lost letter. YES THERE’S A LETTER. YES IT’S BEEN LOST. YES YOU FIND OUT WHAT WAS IN IT AND YES I SOBBED.
Let’s be real — Katherine Carter has a gift for writing fictional men that ruin your life (in the best way). I may hate real-life men, but Cal?? I would BARK. And the spice? Oh, honey. Katherine delivers. The slow burn, the tension, the release?? It’s all there and it’s all WORTH IT.
I stayed up until 5am (it’s literally 5:44am as I write this) because I could NOT put it down. This story had everything: longing, betrayal, aching love, family drama, and a hero who has only ever loved one woman.
Loren and Cal, you own my heart. Forever. Everyone and their mom needs to read this book
This was such an enjoyable Mafia romance! If you’re into second chance romance with childhood friends to lovers to strangers to lovers then this is for you! It is super angsty with lots of tension, at times I didn’t know who to feel sorry for or trust. Although there was some miscommunication between the main characters it was needed for the storyline to work out the way it did. Loren is one of those FMCs who is incredibly resilient and strong even after facing hardships. She’s always looking out for others over herself which is one of my favourite qualities of hers. Callahan became more likeable as the book went on, you could see this man was down bad for Loren but had to work on regaining her trust and love because sh!t went down eleven years ago…
"I’d follow you anywhere, Ren. Anywhere you lead, I'll be your shadow. Every step I take is toward you. Through any fire, through any agony, I'm yours."
Something I really loved about this story was the way fire played a huge theme both in the literal sense and in a metaphorical way. There was this poetic quality to Katherine’s writing style. I need to go back and count how many times fire/flame etc was actually used in this book 🤭
Additionally this book had me on the edge of my seat, there was so much mystery and suspense woven into the plot which balanced out perfectly with the romance. There were some plot twists that I had figured out early on but some really left me shocked! This book does get dark at some points but not between the MCs. Please read TWs beforehand.
I cannot wait for Alice’s book!
💍 marriage of convenience ❤️🩹 second chance romance 👩❤️👨 rival families with Romeo & Juliet vibes 💌 secrets, betrayal, and a reformed playboy ❤️🔥a love that refuses to burn out...

In the hopes of finding her brother, Loren must go into the Keane territory, only to be faced with the one she left behind eleven years earlier. The only way to save her brother is to face Callahan. The catch? He needs a wife.
This is a new to me author and I can’t even remember how I ended up with this book on NetGalley, but I decided to give it a try after reading the description. It is a mafia romance with second chance love and marriage of convenience tropes.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It did take me a while to read it, but that was more of a me issue than an issue with the book. It does have a bit of a slow burn element, which was nice, and there is a lot of action in this one. Definitely check out the trigger warnings listed above before diving into this one.
I really liked the tension between Cal and Loren. The “my wife” vibes and the possessiveness were done really well, in my opinion, and as the story progresses we learn more about the pasts of these two characters which helps explain a lot of their situation. There are a lot of characters to keep up with though, so keep that in mind if this is a book you’re looking into. There are some characters that are not wrapped up yet, so I do anticipate more in this series and more action to follow.
Overall, I am giving this book a four star rating. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the sequel.
I loved this so much! Marriage of convenience where the mmc is so obsessed with the fmc is my new favourite trope. It’s a mafia romance and while the author says it is not essentially super dark there are some quite dark topics and mafia themes so please check the triggers. Honestly I enjoyed every second of the book, yes the mass amount of explosions and fires were a little extra, and I did get a little sick of it but they served their purpose. Honestly it’s your typical mafia marriage of convenience, Cal and Loren get married and he almost completely ignores her until she grows rogue and he has to protect her. I'll be completely honest, Cal keeps saying he’ll protect her and he is trying his best, but he’s doing a terrible job of it. The amount of danger both of them get into because he was a little underprepared to me makes him not the best book boyfriend candidate. I prefer my men 10 steps ahead of the game. Thank you very much. But at least we know he made up for it, because he can be quite unhinged. But for this book I love Loren just as much, I know I’m always so biased, but she was a badass and she definitely doesn’t need his protection. There were quite a lot of plot twists but also stuff they should have seen earlier because they were a little dumb. And that last manipulation trick by Cal did come as a shock but I suspected it. But he’s a grovelling king, and that love letter in the end had me in tears. I had a lot of fun reading this book, I’m really excited to read the next one and I give this a 4/5
So you’re telling me that they were childhood lovers but a family feud separated them and 11 years later, she needs him and doesn’t want to go ask for his help, but doesn’t have any other option and he casually goes “ huh? You’re in luck because I need a wife”, and he doesn’t want us any wife because he has been obsessed with her his whole life, and he has been waiting for the opportunity to make her his forever? Yeah exactly. ✨
When I tell you that, my man Cal is so obsessed with every little detail of her, that he remembers every single thing. It just makes you flutter in the stomach (& 🐈⬛)!!! The tension, the yearning, the plot twists, the spice 👅, a strong level headed mature FMC, and just everything about this story is so good!!!
What to expect: 🗝️ second chance 🗝️ marriage of convenience 🗝️ mafia romance 🗝️ boy obsessed 🗝️ slow burn 🗝️ rivaled families
I had the pleasure of receiving this book and so many freaking goodies (like the ART!!!!!!!!!!) Katherine truly spoiled me, and I’m just obsessed with her! 🩷✨ Through any fire is out now and you can get a signed copy in Katherine’s shop as well as read on KU! if I have to beg you for anything it is to give this book a chance!
"Id follow you anywhere, Ren. Anywhere you lead, I'll be your shadow. Every step I take is toward you. Through any fire, through any agony, I'm yours."
"I knew it was foolish but, Ren, I've never loved anyone like I love you. Never been consumed by someone like you've consumed me"
I was feral for this book. Seriously, I could not put it down. The writing style and plot had me completely hooked—I devoured the whole thing in under 24 hours!
I went in with zero expectations and got hit with a fast-paced, action-packed story featuring a morally gray MMC Callahan and MFC Loren, mafia vibes, and tension for days.
Let’s talk about Cal. Listen… in real life, it’s a hell no, but in fiction? SIGN. ME. UP. The slow burn and tension between him and Loren?? Gurlll, Katherine did the dang thang. That second-chance element with a dark, gritty twist? Inject it. What a man. Dangerous, broken, magnetic—and somehow still made me swoon.
And this isn’t just about spice or romance (though, it’s got both and it’s chef’s kiss)—we’re talking gunfights, car bombs, fist fights, torture… everything. It’s brutal, raw, and so damn addictive.
Loren and Cal’s story had me in a chokehold, and I will definitely be reading more from this author
*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*
The story was engaging. The cover of the book misleads you into what kind of book you’re getting into and the synopsis is brief, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into but it was good old mafia touch her and die vibes which of course I love! Romeo and Juliet style, childhood sweethearts, second chance mafia romance, with all the great “my wife” moments that we just love. I do feel like it was a bit too long, at times it dragged however I was still engaged and wanted to know how the story ends. I feel like there’s more backstory to Jude and Jenna, like they had another book. There may have been too many twists haha, like it became too much like what’s gonna happen next and took away from the story in my opinion. However I did like the story and will most likely be reading the next book in the series, I hated how things ended up with Alice. I give it a 3.5-4 stars.
Thank you Katherine Carter for the gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are genuine and my own
Ok, the absolute CHOKEHOLD this book had on me!! I’m so glad I had a long car ride so I could BINGE it
The beginning is an absolute whirlwind, and I was immediately hooked. I was ADDICTED by 3% in 😱 I adore both Loren and Cal. And the side characters add so much to the story, especially Cohen! I wish we saw more of his personality because he’s such a fun duality of dangerous and sweet
I was constantly trying to figure out the mafia storyline, and by the time I figured out what had really happened, I’d filtered through just about every character being the potential culprit! The suspense was so well written
DEFINITELY add this one to your TBR!
Tropes: mafia romance, second chance romance, star-crossed lovers, hate to love, touch her and d!e
Thank you to the author for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Please make way for your next indie favorite! 😍
When I tell you that I was SAT for the entire duration of this novel, I am not JOKING. Every time I had to stop reading, I was counting back the minutes until I could be back into this darkly addicting world.
Through Any Fire is a fast-paced, steamy, second chance romance that had me flipping pages like I was being starved. As my first mafia romance book, this sets the bar. The simmering intensity that Cal x Loren have is scorching, you'll need plenty of ice water to keep you cool. Plus, the high stakes, warring mafia families, and friendships kept me HOOKED.
If you are looking for a series that will have you utterly obsessed, look no further!
P.S. I'm looking forward to the next book in series, featuring Alice. I have my guesses as to who her love interest will be. My girl went THROUGH it and she deserves all the happiness in the world.
Such an easy read! I was hooked from page one and thoroughly this second chance mafia style romance. Loren and Callahan have a long history, having met as teens. Loren thinking Cal had betrayed her leaves him. She never forgives him until she needs his help to find her missing brither Mason. Lots of action, in which Loren holds her own, she is a feisty fighter, wjich helps her in a few situations. A marriage of convenience that soon grows imto so mich more, as they both have never stopped loving ine another. Loved the writing style, only gripes really in the fact that Loren kept slipping away under Cal's eyes of which I don't think was realistic as he always had people around watching her. Loren at times was a little childish and seemed so much younger than Cal. But other than that a good read forward to reading more from Katherine in the future.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I LOVED Loren & Callahan’s story! This was my first book by the author and definitely will not be the last! This book is fast paced and has a little bit of everything - action, romance, twists and turns and rival mafia families! I loved the tension and the chemistry too!
Oh Cal, there are so many layers to his character and he was so much fun to root for. I really liked Loren too - she was so strong she would do anything to help find her brother. The majority of the story is told from her POV and we find out along with her what really happened 11 years ago…no spoilers but things are not always what they seem!!!

“You’re woven into the fabric of my soul. Without you, there is no me.”
“I’d follow you anywhere, Ren. Anywhere you lead, I’ll be your shadow. Every step I take is toward you. Through any fire, through any agony, I’m yours.”
3.5?? I’m conflicted with this one. It had a lot of promise — suspenseful with banter and spicy moments but it also just felt lacking and just completely meh. PLEASE DONT HATE ME.
Spoilers ahead because I couldn’t wrap my head around the concepts of these characters —
The MMC is “the most powerful” yet has the shittiest security team who can’t properly monitor and secure their cameras and don’t even get me started on him “posting up guards” at her door and she can somehow still sneak out. Did they go to sleep?? With how dangerous these mafias are…it’s typical to have active security guards 24/7 on rotating shifts? Make it make sense to me because why are your hired men leaving your wife unguarded? “The most powerful” yet not having enough men in general and having all of your warehouses burned down in a blink of an eye. Be so for real.
There’s also so many unanswered questions? 1. Rose never showed up to the fight 2. There’s a 3rd person who helped them that’s never mentioned 3. Something’s susssy about Cal’s inner circle too…. 4. If I had to read about her smelling his sandalwood cologne one more time…. 🥲
