In a world where traditions and loyalty to the family are above all, two men from rival mafia empires must risk everything to pursue their chance at love.

Vlad Solovey is a man on a mission. Fueled by his desire for revenge, the Russian crime lord is determined to hunt down his mother's killer. But when a steamy encounter with a mysterious stranger in California derails his plans, Vlad finds his single-minded focus wavering.

The last thing he expects is for that stranger to resurface in Vegas days later–and to discover he's none other than Nicola "Nico" Morelli, the nephew of a powerful Italian mafia don.

Nico Morelli loves his LA life. He has never had ambitions to assume control of his uncle's criminal empire in Vegas, but with his cousins unfit to lead and the family suffering because of their antics, Nico considers taking the reins. Vlad Solovey is simply a pleasant distraction.

Nico knows, in their world, Russians and Italians do not mix, and the consequences of this growing attraction to the Russian man could be deadly. Yet despite the danger, Nico and Vlad can't resist exploring the undeniable spark between them.

As they navigate their forbidden affair, the Morelli family power struggle plunges both their lives into chaos, threatening to expose their secret.

Now Nico and Vlad must decide how much they're willing to risk for a chance to make this relationship work–their secrets, their loyalties, and perhaps even their lives.

"The declaration steals my breath, dangerous and exhilarating. In this dark existence, he is my one luminous thing. The one I would burn cities to the ground to keep safe. The one I would damn my already tarnished soul to protect."

Stricken is book 4 in the Light & Shadow series by the fabulous N.N. Britt, and whilst it can be read as a standalone, I do highly recommend you read the first three books in the series first - Isaac, Dallas and particularly Unspoken, which involves the brother of one of Stricken's main characters.

Stricken is set in the same universe as the previous three books, and it will definitely add to your enjoyment and understanding of the mafia world the author has created to read those first. Natalia writes so beautifully, and creates such wonderfully complex, layered, broken characters you'll just lose yourself in the continuation of the series. This is Vlad and Nico's story.

There are some tough, darkish themes to watch out for, but I promise there's a HEA!

What To Expect:

❥ MM mafia romance
❥ Rivals
❥ Forbidden
❥ "It's just a hook up"
❥ Steamy
❥ Betrayal
❥ First times
❥ HEA

Stricken is an entertaining forbidden romance between Nico and Vlad. Their complicated mutual ties to the mafia are intense and full of intrigue. What begins as a one-night hookup quickly escalates into something more substantial, risking both men. The Russians and Italians are not eager for Vlad and Nico to form an attachment, which is exactly what occurs, leading to chaos.

Overall, I loved the many unknowns that emerged as Nico and Vlad developed their relationship. It is a risky choice that creates moments of shock, suspense, and intrigue, all while maintaining the thread of romance between them. I loved their bond, banter, and dedication to protecting one another. They are magnetic together, and I loved witnessing their relationship grow into something intense, primal, and protective.

I enjoyed being back in this world with all these characters. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I'm too tired to write my review for this right now, so...

RTC...

~*~

Vlad finally gets his romance, and overall it was very good.

When on business in LA, he meets a man and gives into temptation for one night. They both have a hot, sexy night together and that seems to be that...

Only, when Vlad gets beck to Vegas, it isn't long before the man from that night is there too. And that man just happens to be Nico Morelli, the nephew of the Don of the Italina Mafia in Vegas.

And the thing is...now that they've met again, and they know who the other is, they can't seem to stay away from each other.

Only, the mafia world is full of complications and high stress. The Italians and the Russians are enemies in Vegas, their worlds are still highly homophobic, especially Nico's world. He's poised to take over from his older, ailing Uncle, as he's much better at handling things than his cousins, where one is just useless and the other, Salvatore, is cunning but too impulsive and irrational. Neither is fit to take over, and Nico is the front runner too, but also if it got out that he was into men, and with Vlad...well, that'd make everything implode for him.

Plus, Vlad is on a warpath to get Shtyk, the man who murdered his mother on his father's orders. That means Vlad working with the cartel, which is its own minefield with that tentative truce. While another sector of the cartel seems to be screwing things up for Nico and a deal he has with the Armenian mafia.

All those things are being juggled while these two start to fall in love, getting stolen moments and nights here and there.

I really loved these two and their chemistry. I loved their push and pull, their equal dominance and submissiveness with each other. There are twists and turns at every corner as well, it seems.

So my reason for one star off is two things. One, there were typos throughout this. Nothing too big or egregious, but missed words or letters here and there that really made me pause for a second to reorient myself. I don't remember the last three books having this problem and I don't know if I've forgotten if they had that problem or if the author was able to get an editor for the first three books that she wasn't able to here. I don't know the reason, but it was enough and throughout the book that I had to give some partial star off for it.

Secondly, when everything came to a head and Vlad did what he did...it was sucked, but also...it was resolved SO easily that I wonder why Vlad didn't just think of it himself? And he kind of does think of it but then he goes "but he can't risk Nico, not his life" but then in the end what he could have done just happens anyway? And it's all resolved and nothing more happens and the solution was very easy? So then why did they and we have to go through the pain of what happens???

I feel like either . In the end it felt like manufactured drama for the drama of it all. And to have that third act break up. But how it was executed wasn't done the best or the most logically.

It just created unnecessary drama, in my opinion. Better execution of this plot point could have been done.

So those are my two reasons for my full star off.

Otherwise I did love this, and I did love these two. The chemistry was great and they worked so well together. I was very happy that they got their HEA in the end. It was certainly hard fought!

I'll be interested to see the next in the series, which seems that it might be about Axel, Esteban from the Cartel's nephew...but then who would his LI be? I'm very curious to see.

Can't wait to read it. Until then! 😘

My Ratings for the Light & Shadow Series:

🔆 Isaac: 4.5 stars (my review)
🔆 Dallas: 4.5 stars (my review)
🔆 Unspoken: 4.25 stars (my review)
🔆 Stricken: 4 stars

Rushed and frustrating

This review contains spoilers.

This series starts out really great, surprisingly so and I was excited for both Solovey brother books but is feels like the author attempted to relax on the success of the first two books and it shows.

Sasha 's book reads like an adult watching the little mermaid while Ariel throws a tantrum.
How a 33 yr old man could be attracted to a 20 something spoiled brat basically throwing a fit all the time isn't just unbelievable it's uncomfortable but I still held out hope for Stricken.

This book has spelling and grammatical errors on every page. Every single one. From missing words to the wrong word being used, full on sentences missing it's clear this book was rushed.

In addition to that the end of the book is infuriating because the break up between the two main characters was unnecessary and heavily forced.

There is a chapter from the POV of the aunt of Nico and I think the attempt is to make it seem like Chiara deserves pity but honestly I couldn't care less about a woman who is supposed to be the wife of a mob boss but is just so pathetically unwilling to let go of her sons.

Both of them have done irredeemable and selfish things with absolutely no remorse and yet the chapter reads as if we're supposed to have empathy for this woman who is willing to look past the point that he betrayed and literally attempted to kill his father.

Then instead of seizing an opportunity to have Vlad and Nico combine their efforts and say to hell with a world that hates them, the writer has Vlad betray Nico and cast him out and Nico laments the loss even after Vlad's betrayal like some highschool girl.

Some people will do anything to avoid having a frank conversation with their partner I STG.

And it's laughable to use the idea of "they're gonna end his life if he goes back to his boyfriend."

They are literally in organized crime. With Armenians breathing down their next on one side and a Mexican cartel out for blood on the other. EVERYONE is trying to take them down!!! One other threat is just fuel on the fire.

It honestly feels like the author couldn't think of a way to finish the story and basically had to strong arm the most over used Mafia/star crossed lovers trope they could find and then, oops, Vlad crashes his car while racing and suddenly everything he's done is forgotten.

Honestly I wanted to DNF it half way through but I was really hoping at some point the author would pull themselves together for the ending.

I think I would have been more satisfied if someone kicked me on the shin and the worst part is, I could have forgiven all of that if it had just been written well!!!!

But again there was some kind of writing error on every page!

Please get yourself together in the next book Britt, Please!.

** Thank you N. N. Britt for the ARC **

Finally, we get to Vlad’s book!

“Stricken” is Vlad and Nico’s book, this time both men belong to the mob world and while in the other books from the series one of the MMC struggle with their sexual orientation, here both live in this world where being openly gay can be dangerous. While Nico has a lot more to lose than Vlad since his family is incredibly homophobic and Vlad’s lucky enough to have a gay sibling (previous book “Unspoken”), Nico is the one that will do anything for Vlad’s.

I love that the romance starts right away with Nico and Vlad having a casual fling in a hotel in LA, both men are used to being powerful and always on top and their first encounter is more a battle for power within their encounter. But then, as their path cross again, it is clear they both want to give up things for each other.

Nico wishes to go back to his old life in LA where he can be whoever he wants without the shadow of his horrible family and Vlad sees the example of his brother living happily with his boyfriend, away from the bloodshed and tension. Vlad's past still haunts him and for a while, it was what was driving him to live, but Nico gives him a second look at life. At what it would be like to have someone there for him, to hold him. Their relationship is both private and public, since Nico also has connections to help with Vlad’s quest, and Vlad's protective nature wants to help Nico and make him happy.

“Light & Shadow” series explores how powerful and dangerous men have vulnerabilities. Prejudice still plagues the world, even as two people strive for love and confront their inner demons together. It’s one of the most solid series I’ve read so far, the books are consistently good, but this one just had my heart. Vlad and Nico’s story just warmed my heart to see how two guys wanted something so simple and had to struggle so much to achieve some happiness.

Outstanding Read
Wow this is such a fast paced read. This is the story about a forbidden. I don’t wanna say romance because it’s more than that. It’s attraction its connection. It’s chemistry. What a fantastic read. It is a long book but I will admit that I just couldn’t put it down.
This is a mafia Russian Italian crime family book where you have Vlad who is got a one track mind to find the killer who ruined his life. His father had put a hit out on his mother and he wouldn’t settle until they were both dead. Then you’ve got Nico who is part of the Italian mafia he’s not a big player he is the nephew of The Don! but when The Don!‘s kids muck up, it’s Nico they call for.
But one night in a bar these two men make a connection. A contact instant attraction instant need for one another and they have a wild night together but the next morning as it is with any hook up they both go back to their normal lives that is until it comes down to Winning a car at an auction.
These two men are up against each other again, but it is Vlad that wins the car for a horrific amount of money. And this is when Vlad finds out. He has slept with a Morelli and he is disgusted in himself but will that keep him away from Nico??
There is so much going on this book storyline twist turns you just won’t know which way is up what these two have is heat they cannot keep their hands off one another but will Vlad lose the one good thing in his life because of revenge?? And will Nico be accepted by his family when they find out he is gay?? This is a fantastic read you can feel the tension between these two men it is electric.

The Light & Shadow series consists of mostly standalone books that are slightly interconnected. They can be read in any order, however, I highly recommend reading Unspoken before this one-since it adds an important layer to the story as an introduction to Vlad.

I was instantly captivated by Vlad as the older brother of the main character in the previous book, and I couldn’t have been more excited when Natalia told me she was writing a book that would feature him. Vlad is such an interesting character. He’s extremely put-together and exudes confidence as the head of the Russian operation in Vegas. But like all the men in this series, there’s so much more lurking beneath the designer suits and perfectly maintained facade of control.

Nico, the nephew of the Italian mafia operation and heir to the empire, is just as commanding and self-assured as Vlad. I really enjoyed his character, especially in contrast to Vlad. The verbal sparring and overall ‘alpha’ dynamic between the two was a real highlight for me.

I’ve always had a soft spot for forbidden romance, and this one has all the right tension, since being in love with each other is not something that’s accepted in either of their families.

Of course, no romance like this would be complete without a little betrayal, heartbreak, and unexpected plot twists. I loved the secondary storyline (with all the familiar characters) and the incredible action sequences.

Thank you Natalia for letting me read the book in advance. These are my honest opinions. I love this series.

Stricken by N.N. Britt is a captivating tale of forbidden love, filled with tension and danger at every turn. Nico and Vlad’s bond is raw and undeniable, set against a backdrop of mafia power struggles and unvoiced alliances, making their journey both electrifying and unpredictable.

This story grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. It’s not just a forbidden romance, it’s a powerful mix of attraction, connection, and undeniable chemistry. Even though it’s a hefty read, I found myself completely hooked and unable to put it down.

In this intense mafia MM romance, Vlad and Nico's story begins with a fleeting one-night stand, but what starts as a temporary connection soon grows into something far more profound. Their hidden relationship threatens to upend the delicate balance of Mobland, especially with their cross-national backgrounds. Both men are fiercely protective and loyal, but secrets and lies complicate their bond. As their true identities are revealed, they must confront the perilous decision of whether their love is worth the danger it brings. A thrilling tale of forbidden passion set against a backdrop of intrigue and tension.

While this is the fourth installment in the series, it can easily be enjoyed on its own. That said, I highly suggest checking out the entire series for the full journey.

When you truly love someone, sometimes you have to let them go. To sacrifice your own wants for the life they deserve
Finally we have Vladimir/Vlad Solovey's story.
Now Sasha is safe, Vlad's dad is dead and Vlad is in charge of the Russian mob in LA, he has one more thing to do, find the man who was behind his mother's death. A meeting in California causes him to cross paths with Nicola/Nico. Giving into desire, he doesn't realise he is in bed with the nephew of the Italian mafia based in his home city.
This story had it all, action, suspense, betrayal, a forbidden romance, the fear of being discovered. It was fast paced as Vlad and Nico not only battled the outside world but battled with each other in the bedroom, their connection was on fire. The not knowing who to trust but knowing they can trust each other, those heart stopping moments, when you think there is no hope. I was enjoying every minute.
With a new character Axel teased in the bonus I am curious to see if he has a staring role next

Stricken in the fourth book in the Light & Shadow Series. It’s a forbidden romance between Vlad and Nico.

Vlad Solovey is the Russian Mafia Leader. He’s known to not do relationships.

Nico Morelli is nephew of Italian Mafia leader and looking to be the next in line to take over the “Family”.

When a one night stand leads into something more serious, it leaves these two open for repercussions. Both Mafia families are not too happy to learn these two have been inter-mixing with each other in which leads to dissension amongst the ranks.

Both being apart of Mafia families Nico and Vlad can relate and empathize with each other. Neither wants to admit it but they both deeply care for the other.

This is an action packed book with lots of chaos erupting. I really enjoyed reading the relationship between Nico and Vlad and how protective they are of each other.

My first book by this author ..

I loved Vladimir & Nicola dynamic ..
Bother Mafia leaders, Both powerful men & both not wanting to give up control …

We're playing with fire, he and I. And I'm no longer certain if I fear getting burned... or crave the flames.

"You're right. Survival above all else." But even as I say the words, I know they're a lie. Because somewhere along the way, amidst the chaos and the violence and the blood, Vlad has burrowed his way under my skin. Into my fucking heart. And I will need a serrated knife to carve him out now.

Vlad just wanted to protect Nico; he knew he didn’t really want that life and vlad would do anything for him… Even letting him go to keep him & safe and remove any threats that he might have …

Once they loved each other in the open they loved dearly & they brought both sides who were previous enemies together.

I am intrigued by Axel… is he the next book

I was sorta kind of looking forward to Vlad's book and I wasn't disappointed for sure. This book did end up provoking a lot more emotion than I thought it would (I cried). Honestly I thought this one would be just something I passively read just because I wasn't too familiar with Nico, I don't remember him being mentioned in previous books so I didn't know what to expect and then I ended up loving him looool more than Vlad in fact LOL. The warehouse scene really got me and I'm still thinking about it even days after finishing it. I loved these two together so much and I loved the push and pull, I feel like sometimes with romance books I get a bit bored or start struggling after around the 40%-%50 mark because they kinda just get together and nothing else major or interesting really happens after that but this was exactly how I needed it to go to keep me engaged. Vlad did piss me off though so he better be good to my little Nico.

This is book four in the Light and Shadow series. They can be read as standalones, but I suggest reading in order. You won't be lost, but things might not make the best sense.

Vlad Solovey is the Russian that runs Vegas. Nicola Morelli is the Italian heir that's about to take over and run his share of Vegas.

At a chance meeting in LA, a bond is forged. Neither man knows who the other is. When they find out, will they turn away from each other, or will they turn to each other instead? When a betrayal comes to light, one will help the other until he finds himself choosing to make a betrayal of his own to ensure survival.

This was a fast-paced book that had a ton of twists and turns that I really enjoyed. I love the power play between Vlad and Vico.

DNF @34%

I’m sorry I genuinely can’t do this. This book is so sloppily written and I hate to be so negative but this series started out good and went progressively more and more downhill.

I cannot differentiate the two MMC’s at all. I don’t know who is who or who’s POV i’m in because they think and talk the exact fucking same and I can’t continue reading a book where I don’t even know who is who.

There is no plot, they’re just saying they’re being attacked or some bs and I cannot understand what’s going on because the writing makes no sense and I’m so stressed out right now because I don’t know wtf I just read i’m confused LMAO.

Also they slept with each other once and suddenly couldn’t stop thinking about each other. how does that work?

This was a really interesting read.
There was so much detail about the MMCs respective businesses and families that I’ll need to do a series re-read s I’ll sure I missed details in there.
Getting to know these two MMCs, from two different crime families was really interesting. Watching their power struggle and then overcome the prejudice of their family was fascinating.
Not my fave couple of the series but a thoroughly enjoyable read nonetheless.
This whole series has been really good. I highly recommend reading them all if you enjoy MM mafia romance with morally dark grey characters.

A one night stand that turns into a forbidden romance between Vlad (Russian mafia) and Nico (Italian mafia).

The absolute protectiveness of these two men for each other, yes please!

The plot was great, the navigation of the conflicts that arise from the actions of these two, was nicely written. The slow burn and tension between the two men, so good!

This is book 4 in the series but can be read as a standalone, I’d recommend all the books in the series.

Part four in an action-packed mafia type series, with the third potential couple. Here, both MCs were in higher mob positions - one Italian and one Russian. There are lots of groups all vying for power, all of them dangerous. Somehow, this relationship didn't quite have the intensity for me as Isaac and Dallas did, but Nico and Vlad fit together well, and I loved the ending.

You miss out if you don't read this series. Holy gral. I've read few series where I liked every book a 100%. Everything in this book is phenomenal. From the characters, their development, to the story with it's amazing plot twists. The slow burn, the carving, the heat, the fighting for dominance and love. I am speechless. Extremely great book. Stricken delivers a gripping, forbidden romance that pulls no punches. Nico and Vlad’s connection simmers beneath layers of danger, mafia politics, and unspoken loyalties and watching it all unfold is a wild ride.

Their ties to rival factions Russian and Italian only crank up the tension. Neither side wants them together, which of course means they dive headfirst into something intense and reckless. The stakes climb fast, and the risk makes every stolen moment between them feel even more electric.

What really hooked me, though, was the blend of suspense and raw emotion. Their chemistry is magnetic, their banter sharp, and their protectiveness? Absolutely feral in the best way.

It’s the kind of story that keeps you on edge but still carves out space for heart.

This is a mafia MM romance. Our two MMC’s are Vlad and Nico. Originally, our guys have a one-night stand, but their bond grows, and they form a deeper relationship. Their cross-nationality union causes chaos in Mobland. These two characters were dedicated and protective of each other. Initially, they kept their identities secret from each other, and once all is revealed, they have to decide if their love is worth the risk. This is a well-written, tense story of forbidden but unexpected love.
