Almost Perfect

Rate this book
A Saturday off-road outing leads to a burned-out car with a man's body inside: a young and successful lawyer found dead, with no known enemies. Three women, all deeply connected in some way to the victim, are swept into the investigation, involving a post-WWII love affair, an embezzlement case, and a brilliant police detective. When the truth is revealed, secrets are exposed - they must all face a difficult, complex, and unexpected reality. Almost Perfect is a light thriller, which does not require a thorough reading to trace the hidden details... You will find a sophisticated, intriguing story, variety in the narration, and many secondary stories (interesting in themselves), connecting to a harmonious overall picture. It has humanity and longing for warmth and love. The writer sets her stories in the real world, where the smells, tastes and feelings are known and accessible to the reader. These make the book enjoyable, thrilling, and allow the reader to connect with the characters. Orly Krauss-Winer published thirteen books, all best sellers in Israel, many based on her personal stories, and those of her family and friends. She currently lives in Tel-Aviv. "A multifaceted book, full of sweeping changes, its plot is woven into the here and now. Like Orly Krauss-Winer's other books, the genres of thriller and romance are mixed together and the characters are reliable and familiar, as if they are walking among us." Nurita, Israel "In conclusion, we can say that if you fancy a mystery which combines romance, politics and intrigue, you have found it." Bookwatch, Israel "This book is written with grace!" I was born in 1959, in Israel, the eldest child of parents who immigrated from different parts of the world. My father came from Hungary after World War II, and my mother from Uzbekistan, after a long, ten-year journey with her family through the desert, by way of Afghanistan, India, and Sri-Lanka. My sixth book was about my father's family history, their brave and special story of survival through the Holocaust, and I dedicated my eleventh book to the story of the hardships endured by my mother's family in the desert.
My love of books goes back to when I was a child; my parents taught me to read at the age of four, and I've been a voracious reader ever since. I used to read under my desk at school, and I was kicked out so many times that, in high school, I went straight to the beach in Tel-Aviv with my books, not bothering to stop off at school. Nonetheless, I successfully earned a high school diploma, served in the army, and studied at Tel-Aviv University, for both an undergraduate and a graduate degree.
I worked as a flight attendant for El-Al airlines for seven years, then became a freelance writer for several newspapers. Three years later, based on my experiences and happy memories of those years in the air and the unique lifestyle of the flight crews, l wrote a romantic thriller about three flight attendants. The novel was an overnight success, and topped the bestseller list for weeks.
I've since published twelve books, all best sellers in Israel, many based on my personal stories, and those of my family and friends. I currently live in Tel-Aviv with my 21-year-old daughter, Gal, and my partner, Gili.
I write a book a year. My novels are romantic thrillers and historical romances, for the most part based on true stories. Naturally, those written about my family and my life are dear to my heart. On the other hand, I enjoy writing the romantic thrillers more, so it's hard to say which of my novels I like best. One thing is certain - I thank God every day for granting me the privilege of working at something I love so much.

This is a very good mystery/thriller. The story is about one particular murder but there is much more to this book. The other characters bring a lot to this story and this makes for interesting reading. I found this story very engaging and for a first time author I was very impressed.

The world of Nili Abadi, partner in a successful law firm, is turned upside down when the body of another partner is found in a burned-out car that belongs to her best friend. The fact that her friend is also a colleague and an ex-lover of the deceased, leads the police to arrest her as the main suspect in the murder. Nili, convinced that her friend is innocent, sets out to help expose the truth. Although the promotion of the police officer in charge of the investigation is on the line and he needs her help to solve the case, he isn't very enthusiastic about her involvement.
It's a fun twisty case with a little bit of romance mixed in.

What a great book! I have been getting lucky lately with the books I've been reading, as they have all been pretty good. But I have to say that I think this is one of my favorite's of the year. It is a very light read. There isn't too much you have to think about, it wasn't a huge blow-out at the end where it was a big shocker. But the book was very well written, the character's were very likable, and it made the suspense of the book even more fun.

There’s nothing like a great murder-mystery book. In some books, you know who the killer is at the very beginning of the story, and the book goes on with the story until the killer is caught. Other stories give you tiny clues you can piece together, and by the end of the book, you correctly guess who the killer is. Yet and still, there are other stories that keep you guessing up until the very last minute. Guess which type of book this one is?

This story is very hard to describe but very simple to understand. Lior Almog is found dead in Alona’s car in the woods. Alona and Lior had been lovers but called it quits when it was apparent she wouldn’t leave her husband Mody. Lior was a lawyer found to have been a gambler in a lot of debt. He worked with Alona, Nili, and Tamar at a law firm. When Alona wouldn’t leave her husband for him, Lior had moved on to a relationship with Tamar. When Tamar found out Lior was found dead in Alona’s car, she immediately accused Alona of killing him. It turns into a hot mess of accusation, speculation, hatred, near-suicide, and get this…. some World War II stories from Tamar’s father figure, Rubik.

This story is set is Israel. The characters took on a life of their own as I read, and like any other good book, I could picture what I was reading just as if I was watching the story play out behind glass. This story is so intense as it’s fueled by love in many different facets. The most intriguing aspect of the whole book was just the way the puzzle pieces fit together perfectly, but when you stepped back, the picture wasn’t clear. It was weird to read this book and not be able to pinpoint exactly what was going to happen next. That by itself kept me turning page after page because I needed to know I was right, even if I wasn’t. I felt defeated at the end of each chapter because it never turned out the same way it did with the conclusions I’d jumped to every time.

This is a story I could read a second time and be more comfortable with the next time. I couldn’t picture the description of some of the characters simply because Mody didn’t look like a “Chris” or a “Todd” or “James” in my head. The same problem with Alona, Nili, and Tamar. I couldn’t conjure an image of their faces, so (this may sound silly) in the video in my head, I always saw these characters from the rear, with just their hair. I’d read this book again to give them a “face” in my brain.

Overall, this book gets an A. Great, believable plot, incredible storytelling by the author, and a quick pace make for a good read. I found myself reading this on my iPad many nights in the bed because I just had to know what happened next, even if it was completely different than what I had planned.

I really enjoyed this book! Although it focused around the murder of one person, I loved how the author told us the story of how differently the murder affected each character. There are many twists and turns - just when you think you, and the characters, have figured out who the murderer is, a new clue arises, and you, and the characters, are farther from the answer than before! Each character adds dimension and different insight into the story. It's interesting to see how the murder of one person changes the characters, and helps them to grow as individuals. I loved that the author kept me guessing - even when the characters had seemed to reach an answer, I just knew there was going to be more to it. Each character had different knowledge about the situation, and the plot continued to thicken. I truly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a mystery novel in which the answer is not staring you in the face, and which keeps you interested until the very end!

This novel grabbed my attention right from the beginning. I was completely captivated throughout the entire book!
This book has a new twist around every corner. Just when you think you know 'who did it' or what is going to happen next, a new twist is introduced.
I will be reading this book again even!
There are only a few books that are good enough for me to want to read multiple times and this is one of them.
Orly Krauss-Winer done an excellent job on this novel and I will be actively searching out other novels by this author.
I highly recommend this novel for anyone that loves a great mystery/thriller.

This story is filled with mystery, intrigue, and adventure. If you are a fan of the mystery genre or criminal thriller genre, this is a book for you.

This story will take you up, down, and all around. A little hard to keep up with at first, but when you get settled in, it begins to make sense, and by the end, it finally hit's you what you have been reading and you have an Ah Ha moment.

Pick this up today , you will really enjoy it.

This book was a drag... horribly written at the beginning, so many characters and different story lines, it did not flow at all. I got to the point where I was skipping pages at a time to see if it would get any better. About 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through it started picking up. The story became more dramatic and suspenseful, and the banter was more playful and easy to follow. However, then the story felt rushed, like it was hand written and the author was running out of pages (or time). Also at the end with the "who dunnit" explanation the characters RAN through the events that's happened like they had just eaten Mexican and needed a bathroom asap.

All in all the idea of the story is intriguing. But there is WAY too much back story about side/half-main characters that is completely unnecessary and made the book choppy and annoying.

A soap opera

Full of romance, sex, betrayal, addiction, love and murder, this story has all of the elements of a really good soap opera. It's not a light or funny read. But it is full of intrigue. I enjoyed reading about the Israeli history with fact and fiction mixed together. Rather than take away main plot, it added to it.

This book opens with the body of a lawyer is found in a burned-out car that belongs to someone else. The owner of the car is a colleague and an ex-lover of the deceased. She quickly becomes a suspect and her behaviour and lack of alibi leads the police to arrest her as the main suspect in the murder.

Nili (one of the main charcters), is completely convinced that her friend is innocent, and she sets out to help expose the truth by finding the true killer! She is able to expose some dark secrets from the dead man's past that help to shed some new light and completely the investigation. The main Police Officer assigned to the case is finally forced to listen to the evidence that Nili is collecting and try to find another plausabile suspect! He starts to fear that Nili's life is in jeopardy because of her too close involvement in the case and her abillity to uncover secrets!

The plot turns from a basic murder myster to a twisted embezzlement case and love story. There are many characters in the story and sub-plots that, at times, make the story somewhat hard to follow, but gives real depth to each charcter and their believability.

I had some trouble following the characters, because of their unique names and had to pay more attention to keeping all of the details straight. It was a slower read for me because of this. The book is set in Isreal, which I found to be an interesting layer to the story.

Krauss-Winer keeps the reader guessing until the very end- unsure of the motive and true identity of the murderer. Overall, a decent read.

As much as I love to read, I think I have read more in the time that I have been a blogger, then I did at any time in the past, and I LOVE IT! With each new book, I get to go on some adventure, in far away places, with a variety of characters...That rings true in this book Almost Perfect, by Orly Krauss-Winer.

This is one of those great books that has stories within a story, but each one is an integral part of the big picture, and the book would be lacking without the sub-stories.

In this book, we dive headlong into a murder mystery, when a young and successful lawyer found dead, with no known enemies, is found dead inside a burnt out car. Three women are pulled into the investigation, as it is revealed that each of them is tied to the deceased lawyer. As the investigation goes on, secrets are revealed that include a post-WWII love affair, and an embezzlement case.

There are so many twists and turns to this plot, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat, from page one to the very end. That is the spectacular thing about books, each persons imagination can create the perfect movie in their mind as they read. I loved the movie that played in my head as I read this book!

I think that Orly is a fantastic author, and I look forward to reading more.

Do you like to watch Dateline, PrimeTime or any of the other ubiquitous real crime shows on TV? Do you love to read? If you answered yes to these questions they I believe you will enjoy the book Almost Perfect by Orly Krauss-Winer. Thanks to EBook Pros I was granted complimentary access to the Almost Perfect ebook.

If you enjoy mystery, intrigue, gossip and a little romance you'll enjoy this book. I don't know how the author managed this, but based on the descriptions of the characters personalities initially I was already formulating a visual representation of the in my head which I later learned was startlingly spot on. One thing I particularly enjoyed about Krauss-Winer's writing style is that they wove real world stories into the plot. They weren't just extraneous bits which had nothing to do with the plot-line, but were very well integrated helping you to form an interest in and compassion for the characters. It was a little difficult for me at first to pinpoint who was supposed to be the main character and without having read the description first it would have taken me quite a while to do so. In fact, Nilli, the supposed main character, was the person I had the hardest time picturing. That was a little frustrating at first, but the author finally did manage to thread all the story lines together into one cohesive climax and resolution.

Almost Perfect kept me on my toes wondering who had killed the lawyer, Lior. Every time I or the characters had thought we figured out who the killer was, something else came up. Whether it was new evidence or an alibi.

Nili is convidenced that one of her friends did not kill the other friend's boyfriend. The one killed and the accused did have an affair a year or more ago. Relationships and friendships are tested. Nili must look for help in the investigator and her ex-husband to get answers.

Each time they come one step closer, new information comes up bringing them two steps back. Some questions are answered, but new questions arrive each time.

Tamar, Lior's girlfriend, goes to spend time with the father who had adopted her. She needs to get her mind off what happened and help him with what he's being accused of, which happens to be with the money that disappeared from his community.

Tamar hears her father's story, which happens to answer more questions that had been arising. She learns that the people she knows or had known are more closely related than she realized. She learns that those she had cared about had secrets they were hiding. Now she must choose to help someone and his family that she once loved or do what's right by the law and her friends.

If you love a good mystery book that mixes romance, politics and intrigue, Almost Perfect will satisfy all your mind’s desires…Orly Krauss-Winer is a master story-teller so she will have you on the edge of the seat all the way to the end…

I love reading stories that take me to various corners of the world and this book is just what I like… The book takes place in Israel…Here we meet Nili – a powerful and strong woman…a partner in a very successful law firm who is set on a mission to prove that her friend is innocent. One of the senior partners has been murdered, and his body is found in the car of his ex-lover, Alona, who is a partner in the same law firm – and Nili’s best friend. Tamar, another partner in the firm, and the deceased’s latest girlfriend, is convinced that Alona is the murderer, and finds herself in the opposite corner from her two ex-best friends… The twists and turns of the investigation reveal an embezzlement case and and a love story that will have you questioning everything until the last page of the book.

The characters are memorable and familiar…the dialogues witty and insightful, and the story is captivating…You will not go wrong with this book choice!!

I was given the opportunity to read this awesome book by Orly Krauss-Winer called Almost Perfect, but it also made me wonder about what I would do if I was placed in the same situation. What if it was my best friend or even colleague that was suspected of murder. This book is definitely a mystery that has romance built into it as well, and is very interesting, and takes you into the world of Nili Abadi, who is a partner in a successful law firm that suddenly gets turned upside when one of her partners at the firm is found murdered. I won't go further into the book, since it is a great read and I couldn't put it down. I know what I would do.... What would you do?

This is one of the seat on the edge thrillers that will shock and surprise you till the end. The story starts as a murder mystery and everyone trying to find out who has done it. There is a parallel story going on about a man who is accused of embezzling funds and we get to know his life before holocaust. This is a real page turner and I am so tempted to turn to the last page to see what happens at the end. This is also a story of friendships, betrayals and growing relationships.

I picked this book for my night time reads. I wad in the middle of reading an actual book but missed going to sleep reading my kindle and I got this book free on a deal.
A good entertainer and a mystery. A dead lawyer, another lawyer as a suspect, third lawyer in mourning and the firm one investigating. This many lawyers and no courtroom drama. No gore and no heavy stuff.
A breezy read compared to some police procedure novels.

A great read from the start. I am a cynic and always think of lawyers in less than gracious terms. I've always felt justice was more of a concept than a reality. This book reminded me that there are still good people out there searching for truth.
