I would totally, absolutely, wholeheartedly encourage you to read this book.
What I loved:
1. The mystery is tightly spun, and unravels in a satisfying way
2. The main characters are highly skilled, without coming across as overpowered. And their skills complement each other wonderfully. I do wish magic was more liberally used, specifically since it doesn’t seem to have a cost
3. The lore is evenly distributed throughout the story, so at no point did I feel bored
What I didn't like:
1. I think the biggest gripe I have with this book is that I wished the romance would be less teasing and flirting, and more silent support. Constant flirting and teasing while trying to convince me that the protagonists are in over their heads takes away from the seriousness of the problem
2. I wish we got to know Olivia naturally through the story, along with maybe a reason she would be inclined to help members of a witch coven
3. This is bottom of the barrel stuff, but I saw the twist coming way before all the hints were laid out

I absolutely adore this story and I can't wait for more.
The relationship between Earnan and Aranya might be slowburn but it leaves absolutely no doubt how they feel about each other.
From the very first page, David manages to weave a story that is both immersive and intriguing. You can't help but fly through it because you just HAVE to know more about their story and their world. I cannot wait to see what happens next and am counting down the days until book 2 comes out.

Well, this was an adventure!
A bit of a slow start (but worth it as it sets up the relationship between the MC's), but once the story truly starts, it starts.
The yearning was top tier.
High fantasy can sometimes feel overbearing sometimes, in my opinion, but there was none of that here.
If you like witches and their familiars, vampires, werewolves, and other creatures, definitely give this one a chance.

The author has created a vast and complex world in this series, and it unfolds gradually before the reader through actions, locations, small descriptions, and dialogue. You follow the characters and find yourself becoming more and more immersed in it.
I especially want to highlight the relationship between the book’s main characters, Ranya and Earnan. There is so much nonverbal interaction in the way they communicate — touches, glances, gestures — and it is incredibly interesting to watch. And even though they are not a couple from the very first pages, you can see their chemistry immediately, almost as if there is already a long history behind them.
I would say this is not only a fantasy story, but also a mystery with a touch of adventure.
I really liked the plot twist, but I won’t say what it was or why I liked it because I don’t want to spoil the experience for other readers.
My only note, and this is purely a matter of personal preference, is that the chapters are quite long. I’m one of those readers who prefers shorter chapters because I find them easier to read, but that’s a very minor thing.

This book caught your attention right from the beginning. The magic system is the most unique that i have ever read. The familiars have three forms and magic of their own. The witches are not human but
species that look human.
The characters are well developed. Earnan's and Ranya's connection is so clear that you can't help but fall in love with them. And the bond is there from the very beginning.
There's a variety of creatures in this story as well. What they are is a secret that can only be found out by reading the book. But there is a major plot twist involving some of the creatures.
There's some slow burn and romance in the book between Earnan and Ranya. There's just enough to make things interesting at times.
The energy of the story carries throughout the whole story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat at times. Some of the fight scenes have you biting your fingers, hoping what you think is going to happen doesn't.
If you're looking for a book that will make you smile, leave you puzzled, sit you on the edge of your seat and make you want to scream at points, this is the book for you.

This book was such a refreshing read.
The magic system was so interesting and so unique, but you could easily follow and understand it. I love the writing of the familiars, it was so well done, i think familiars is such an interesting thing so to read about it in this book was pretty cool!
I love the characters and how well they were written. The MCs had such a connection, it was beautifully written and you can’t help but root for them and the bond they have! The slow burn between them is sooo good!
The plot was plotting and that plot twist was unexpected! I can’t wait for the next part/book!

David W. Vincent's debut effort is a rarity in the fantasy genre: an adventure as concerned with the emotions of the characters as their heroic deeds.
He also spends a fair amount of page-space on how hot they are, and it's space well spent!
The male lead is a mystical empath, burdened with the feelings of everyone in his proximity (an intrusive sixth sense that Vincent renders in vivid color), and charged with hunting down creatures that threaten the public a la the Witcher. But, unlike Geralt, Earnan never works alone, and his bond and evolving relationship with his Familiar Ranya (a shapeshifting cat-woman) hold up the narrative along with their hunt.
And when that hunt kicks in, Vincent delivers some visceral action and body horror.
All that, and a rich, engaging setting with lovingly crafted worldbuilding!

This is an amazing piece of work! I’m so glad I got the chance to read it and cannot wait for book 2!
Earnan - witch and prime hunter extraordinary is on the hunt for the missing mayors son of Sentinel Watch. But there is so much happening in this city and there is more at play than just a missing man. There’s also something paranormal at play otherwise why would the Covenant send him?
Rayna- shifter and familiar to Earnan, loves him always and supports his every whim, even when it involves him being in danger. That is the life of Hunters after all. But when they find out what is actually happening? Will this bring them closer together or will Rayna lose her Hunter Witch?
I’m warning you now - this book is full of murder and intrigue and lots of paranormal activity and magic!

Vincent's debut is packed with everything that makes high fantasy so much fun. His writing style is unique, the character development and world building are well thought out, and of course magick is sprinkled onto every page. I'm excited to read the rest of the series!

A great indie read!
I have to admit, the present tense initially made it difficult to get into the story, but I'm glad I pushed on. I love the deep world building here. The characters are interesting and I genuinely wanted to know what happened to them in the story. I think casual readers might struggle a little to keep track of everything, but if you're used to Epic/High Fantasy, you'll catch on quite well ❤️

This was a highly interesting and refreshing read.
I found the narratives from the main characters a delight. The characters were wonderfully written. The storyline was unique and I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading the next instalment.

Wow. This isn't a traditional 'romance' book. David focuses on building tension through dialog and action. You get a feel for who Earnan and Ranya are from the opening scene and it carries throughout the book. There's intrigue and mystery, and the magic system is fresh with familiar elements. The shifter magic is really interesting. Insta buy for me

This was wonderful. The characters were believable and the storyline intriguing. I especially liked how the witches are a species of their own and not humans with magical abilities and the familiars can shift between three forms. Looking forward to book two!
